The ambience here is terrific at night with low lighting, plants in the windows, and eclectic art. We sat at the bar since we had no reservations. The early grey and grapefruit cocktail was right up my alley and wonderful. However, we didn't know the place was tapas style before ordering. We ordered bao buns, ahi tuna crustini and the tostones. The buns came out fast and then the tuna dish came out an hour later and my boyfriend still didn't get his. So I said something and they explained it just comes out when it's ready and since it is meat and it's cooked it takes longer than my ahi tuna. This doesn't make sense because the people on the side of us had walked in half hour after us and got their baked Mac and cheese already. My boyfriend's dish came out twenty minutes later and both our dishes were great. They ended up not charging us for either of our drinks and apologized for the long wait of over at least an hour and fifteen. The food was really exceptional and the menu is pescatarian friendly which is so hard for me to come by. We got the goat cheese cheesecake croquettes to go and they too were phenomenal. A friend brought me to dinner here on Thursday and I am still astounded at the quality and tastes I was served. The server was so very educated as to the menu and we chose the Kufta meatballs, Disco Fries and Chicken Tenders. The Disco Fries were so crisp and tasty, they were drenched in a peanut tahini-is sauce, with peanuts, creme freche and scallions. The flowers and textures just filled the mouth. The Kufta was my favorite, the tomato and perhaps red wine sauce so so good. The chicken breast was so tender and seemingly coated in a sauce then the thick crunchy batter. AMAZING. For dessert we split the almond clementine cake with chocolate ganache, and if I could just eat that the rest of my life, I would be happy. Throughout the meal, our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. I have to say this rivals some of the best restaurants around the country that I have been to and I await a cookbook to see how this chef blends the flavors he does! read more

This is the sweetest, most lovely bar! I live in Portland, OR and was out here visiting my family who wanted to take us to the new bar in town. Everyone who works here is a gem. The cocktails are delish and the food is also great. I can't eat gluten or diary and our server (also gluten free) went through the menu with me and was so kind. My third time there. My boyfriend owns a home in town and first time we were transported with the wonderful lighting, jazz music and attentive staff. Went again and something missing. Back in town so my third time since late Dec. and the menu is eclectic but not enough food and the prices are high. Drinks were not consistent with an Old fashioned tasting like tons of simple syrup thrown in. I think you should change up the menu and have the right people up front. Will think twice about going back. like the decor but you need to think about how to keep your local people interested enough to choose it as their "go to" place. read more

Oh my goodness. Visit. This. Bar. I've been twice and have sampled about half of the food items on the menu so far. Shakshuka is delicious and spicy. The pretzels are out of this world; if you order them with the beer-cheese dip, you won't be disappointed. The lemon quark cheesecake is delightfully light and not too sweet; it gently shames the heavy, Americanized cheesecake you might find on the menu at your favorite chain restaurant. The cocktail list has a smattering of creatively reimagined classic drinks. The beer and wine lists are extensive as well. The decor is funky and certainly sophisticated for the area. Excellent food, presentation, service, decor, atmosphere and cocktails. Had the special of the day Mexican corn on the cob (flavorful but not spicy), menu items: duck confit (paired with a fresh kraut that balanced the fat of the duck), pork belly bao (Wunderful!), and Empress noodles with added shrimp (cute presentation, too spicy for sister). Corn and baos my favorite. Sister's cocktail was excellent (last one on the list). Pricey for this area but worth every penny. read more

This place is great! We happened upon Wunderbar on a spur-of-the-moment outing for dinner. We come to Bellows Falls fairly often, but have missed this gem. The menu had an interesting selection of delicious tapas. The influences seem to be a Latin- German mix which is unusual, but great food. We had the arepas with shrimp, a fish taco, the bao buns and the heirloom salad. It was all excellent, and we even had to try a dessert - lemon posset, a sublime mousse. The decor is eclectic and creates a pleasant ambience. We may have missed this restaurant in the past year, but we'll be back soon! read more

Simply perfection. I just so happen to be passing through the sleepy town of Bellows Falls while traveling the New England countryside with my bride to be when we stumbled upon this gem. We were immediately taken with the elegant yet chic ambiance and atmosphere. We were kindly and quickly greeted by a handsome man with a strong beard who guided us to a lovely table. Turns out he's the owner! We then started our dining experience with a delicious cocktail made by the equally handsome bartender with a thick head of a hair. We started the meal with the pretzel which was baked to perfection and accompanied by a delicious mustard dipping sauce. Devine. We then moved on to a scallop dish with garlic kale which was perfectly balanced and bursting with flavor. We ended our meal with the empress noodles with tofu. I don't even like tofu but this has to be the best tofu noodle dish I've had in my thirty one years of existence. To top off the perfect evening we were treated to a delicious desert with a house made blueberry purée which was simply to die for. I cannot recommend this place enough. We formerly lived in the New York City area and now live relatively close to Wunderbar. Although Wunderbar is situated in a small New England town, it would be perfectly competitive with the best of our favorites in the NYC area. We have now visited Wunderbar five times with varying guests and we have found each experience different but with absolutely no faults. The food is served tapa style (shared dishes sequentially brought out) and the menu has always been updated at each visit. The drunken noodles with shrimp is a "must order" if on the menu and whether it is mixed olives, the fish tacos, etc.; it has all been great and, of the more than fifteen dishes that we have ordered so far, not a single one has been a disappointment. The selection of beers from the full service bar has been different and diverse at each visit and we have found some new favorites that we had not previously known. The decor is eclectic and certainly not typical of a Vermont restaurant; it is warm and welcoming and keeps your eyes wandering around the room to admire the imagination of the decorator(s). The owners and personal are incredibly and genuinely friendly and welcoming. Surprisingly, although the restaurant has always been busy when we have been there, we are now recognized and welcomed when we come in. This is a very special place that, although relatively new and apparently already popular, will certainly become more so as people experience this special place. read more

You MUST visit this restaurant. Coming from New York we thought we'd miss the many choices we used to have moving to the area.. A local merchant recommended Wunderbar and we so glad they did. We are fans of Tapas as you can order many more choices and the portions are to me just the right amount. First let me say when you enter its a hip, welcoming,eclectic vibe, as is the menu. From farm to table to a diverse menu from Asian, American Latin...etc. However, I must mention the friendly, staff and the owners who greeted us with enthusiasm despite the restaurant being busy. The cocktails interesting and tasty, also a great selection of beer and wine for offerings. Feeling a little nostalgic and hip at the same time,my husband & I played with some of the many board games as we enjoyed a cocktail while admiring the décor that was fun and interesting to the eye.
