After one bad experience, I have had many many positive ones here at the Wurst Haus. I appreciate them replying so quickly to my review. They clearly care about their customers and strive to be the best at their business. As far as the food goes, I wouldn't call any of it the best I ever ate, but the food is solid. The goulash soup is amazing. The sausage selection is top notch. The sandwiches always hit the spot when I want one. Everything else is good. Nothing to write home about, but good. However, their beer menu by far makes up for it. So, amazing beer selection + pretty decent food = a place I still frequent often and will continue to frequent. read more

I'm a local. This is arguably the best place in town. They definitely have the best soup in town. Live music on weekend nights. Also, the longest bar in town WITH USB OUTLETS all along the bar. We tried new dishes at Wursthaus: Surf and Turf for my husband and Blackened Mahi-Mahi for me. His medium rare steak was the best I've eaten in this area (yes we are that couple who eat of one another's plates.). The Mahi-Mahi was also excellent-juicy and well seasoned. Twenty something people in a group: generally a recipe for chaos and slow service, featuring a server holding up food while she begs someone to claim it. Not Kelly-she got drinks out quickly then took orders for dinner and appetizers. More people came. Tables were added. A manager came to assist with drinks and pitchers to keep us going. Appetizers came. Our food came out (with Brice's help) in order, and she delivered the correct food to the correct people without having to ask who ordered what!!! Tomato Basil soup was amazing as always. I tried the grilled chicken salad as a lower calorie alternative to the Holy Cow, and it was pretty tasty, but I'm going back to the Holy Cow next time. I just love the steak. Friends bragged on the Gypsy Chicken, the Ruben (best in town), Philly flatbread, and the Chipotle Chicken sandwich. We were told there was a 20 something percent gratuity for tables of six and more. Really? That's a bit excessive (for a table of 6). I could understand if it was like 8 people. Anyway. Since there were twelve of us, I was fine with it. I'd just hate to be that table of 6. They only assigned one server to our table although the place wasn't super crowded or anything. There were servers just standing around. I made sure to give this server a good tip since waiting on twelve can't be fun. I ordered a fried pork schnitzel. What I got was... I guess it was a fried pork schnitzel. I love mushrooms, but these did not taste fresh. They seemed to be canned or old. The schnitzel was also drowned in some kind of gravy sauce. That would've been fine if it didn't taste like a foot. One of my friends ordered some sort of chicken entree. She said it tasted like it was old, and she didn't want it or to pay for it. The server came back and said that they would dock 20% off. She didn't like 100% of it, and it was old. So a 20% discount is reasonable. Maybe in Bizarro World. My other friends' meals were adequate to mediocre. No one seemed to enjoy their meals that much. The saving grace was the full bar. I guess you have to be drunk to eat here. Ate here last night, and must say I left very happy. We did have to wait a bit but they were extremely busy so I understand. The atmosphere had a nice relaxing vibe. Our waitress was super sweet. Ordered one of their sausages with 2 sides, potatoes and asparagus. The sausage was about 6 inches long and was a little too salty for my taste. The asparagus was way overcooked and dripping with oil. On top of that, the service was terrible. We waited 20 minutes to pay but the waiters never saw us wave. Food was terribly disappointing. This is no longer a good place to eat, but only drinking. We were there at 5:30 and the restaurant was very busy, but only if people drinking. We were the only ones eating. I can see why. The "new braunsfels" sausage had so much black pepper it was too "spicy" to eat. The potatoes au grautin were just fried potatoes with cheese sprinkled on them. The au grautin potatoes out of a box are better than those. I paid extra and tried Mac n cheese as a side. It was terrible. The sauce was so thin it ran off the noodles and pooled at the bottom of the bowl. Even when I dug for a noodle at the bottom in the "cheese sauce" it was even lower quality than cicis pizza noodles. The sauerkraut was so strong you had to take tiny bites. I have been here before, when it was not an upscale bar. The food was much better and the service was stellar. WHAT Happened! Did you forget about service and quality will bring people back? I had what they called a Steak Salad. It was not only very expensive, I couldn't chew through the meat. I asked for blue cheese, I get ranch. It took so long to get a waitress to pay attention to our table. I had one beer and had to leave. after that salad, I realize they just need to make bar food and nothing else. Arguably the best place in Lake Jackson for food and drink. There is a huge new bar which a great variety of new beer, a remodeled seating area, and a whole fresh new look. The food was already great before, but I think it got better and there are many new options. I had a few different belgian ales, some of which Ive never heard of. I had the Schnitzle, red cabbage, and fried potatos. I dont think German food could get any better. The mushroom sauce on the pork is out of this world. The red cabbage is something you shouldnt be afraid of trying either. Ordered the regular schnitzel and when it came out, it looked a little dry. I asked if i could add the jaeger sauce and the waiter took it back to add the sauce. When he returned, it appeared as though he had smeared it with a grainy flour paste that included mushrooms. The schnitzel was tough and dry. Goulash: very dry meat, overly peppered sauce, no salt. Beef roll: dry and lacking seasoning. Noodles: no salt and were cooked to the point of being mushy. Red cabbage: no flavor and cooked until mushy. Green beans: great flavor, but prep forgot to check them: stems and strings. Fried potatoes and potato salad: pretty good, nicely flavored. Fried needed a few more minutes of cook time. Reuben sandwich: very good, but dried out. Chicken salad: excellent. We used to go to the old establishment weekly until they closed years ago. Sub par tonight and when we tried to let them know one of our favorite regular dishes was off par.... A young disinterested manager told us that he and the kitchen disagreed. Moreover, they didn't correct the meal or the price and knew it was the birthday boy's meal. Our waitress, on the other hand, was great and felt terrible for us.
