Comcast is one of the worst service providers walking the planet. Because I've heard such bad things about their cable service, I decided that I would just use their Xfinity WIFI 30 day pass for $10 a month. No contracts, no obligations. At first, the service was working fine. Considering I do everything on the internet, it came in handy. However, lately their service is either slow or non existent. For the past 2 days I've been using my mobile data because every time I try to connect to Xfinitywifi, it tells me, "IP configuration failure." No matter how many fixes I use (airplane mode, forget the connection and try to reconnect, switch from random default mac to device mac) NOTHING works. The Down Detector page says "users don't indicate any problems at Comcast" yet when you scroll down to the comments section, you see people complaining about no service as of yesterday. Don't even think about asking for compensation back for the days their service wasn't working because you won't get it. I pay for 30 days of service, yet their wifi doesn't work for the entire 30 days. Dusty was awesome. He went above and beyond. He came just to install a new modem and he did some tests and found out that we had a bad line/connection/port outside and also needed and upgraded ground and box outside which he installed. He upgraded our modem, cabel box, and remote. He was very nice, personable, and thorough. Our internet is very fast now and I can get Disney+ now!! If I could give this company negative stars, I would. I wouldn't recommend XFinity to my least favorite ex if she came back to life in search of HGTV (May she rest in chaos) My parents (seniors) have been customers since the 90's down in Maryland near Baltimore. When I visit, their internet is notably slower than my home internet although I pay a fraction of what my parents pay. I live in a beach community with ancient communications infrastructure and I still get 1Gbps for less. They never get anything close to the advertised speed they pay and their modem is top-of-the. It seems like a tech has been working on something different in their neighborhood every month since the Bush administration. Xfinity has spent more than a month trying to address "node issues" in the area. Since September (It's now November) several local channels are intermittently unavailable to my folks and others in their aging neighborhood. Local news is extremely important to seniors -and so are the Ravens. When my father called to enquire about prorating his bill (they pay over $300/month and aren't getting what they pay for), the call center guy talked him into changing from his grandfathered plan to some other plan that doesn't have the services and channels they discussed on the phone. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that. They lost their ad-free streaming services and picked up a bunch of "junk" channels. My mom tried to switch it back 20 minutes later, but they lost the grandfathered plan and now have to pay even more for what they had -plus the "node issues" continue. They've been customers since the 90's! I still can't believe they pay of $300/month! This angered my mother enough to call me at 1AM looking for help understanding their bill and plan, but frankly I can barely understand their services. I'm often trying to troubleshoot for my parents over the phone and it's highly frustrating that I can't trust the call center people to explain things because they actively take advantage of confused customers who have been loyal for decades. It's apparently hard for customers to get services spelled out on paper too. I wish there was another option for them but cable is one of those oligopolies most Americans seem to love. They were offering $100 visa gift card if you transferred your mobile service to them, and it was right before Christmas and could use the extra money. Their gateway gets 1.2 Gbps from the line, but whether I'm wired or wireless standing right next to it I can never get even half of what I'm paying for with any device I've tried. Many days it drops to less than 1 Mbps. This makes it nearly impossible to do anything requiring an internet connection. They have come out to do tests and all they care about is the service to the gateway. Nothing they've done has improved the actual speed anything connected to their gateway receives. Xfinity internet service in Baltimore doesn't even qualify as a service. Wifi is extremely unpredictable. Sometimes will work for a whole day, sometimes will drop every device every 10 minutes, requiring a restart each time. Nobody in customer service has any idea what's going on and you'll get charged for having a tech come out to fix their own problem. A very pushy rep from Xfinity made me feel like I was being scammed. I told him they're out all of our conversations several times that all I wanted was Internet. He kept pushing channels streaming which is fine but not channels. All I wanted was Internet for $45 we had several conversations over the phone. We had several conversations texting back-and-forth and this last time he kept pushing the channels he said that I would have took the top channels for three months so I asked him what if I forget to cancel those and he said I will remind you and I just made me feel like I was being scammed. I kept the text and it said several times that I wanted just the Internet and if somebody would check the recordings of our phone calls I stated several times I just wanted Internet And he wouldn't let me talk. My mother had Comcast/Xfinity for almost 15years because as technically got bigger n bigger the less cable we watched. We normally were on our phones or watching Netflix or hulu or Disney plus on our television so honestly it was pointless to have anymore. We called back and this next customer service lady was trying to talk us into keeping our services but once we got stern with her about cancelling it then she went ahead and did it. But in the mean time while shes doing it on her end she was asking who do we have WiFi thru and how much are we paying now..... Honestly that shouldnt matter! She kept making remarks like we you come back to Xfinity you can get a discount for this and that and just kept saying stuff like that but what really got us is when we were getting off the phone she said bye and that we will be calling them back shortly for service again. NO we wont!! First off we only need wifi because we dont watch cable no more and secondly we definitely would never come back to Xfinity ever again just because of how their customer service agents talk to customers. It's a sad thing that Baltimore City is stuck with Comcast as it's only provider. I have lived in other cities and Comcast has always been the least reliable option, but here in Baltimore we have no other options. Over the past three years I have had to deal with their x1 modem. Because it certainly did not provide the "whole home internet" it advertised (it was only reliable in the one room it was in), I turned off the router feature on the x1 and installed a mesh WiFi system. Yet I still had intermittent WiFi. I finally got my own modem and like magic the WiFi worked fine. As much as I am thankful for reliable WiFi, the reality that I've spent $420 leasing a product (the x1 "gateway") that seemingly was designed not to work is quite frustrating. Now, recently, our neighborhood (and others) seem to be experiencing regular, hours long, outages of service; yet the most they'll offer you is a couple $$'s off the bill. Cable utilities are the worst utilities in this country and it's depressing to see the worst of them have a monopoly on ripping off the citizens of Baltimore. read more

I received my new Xfinity TV box upgrade today to partner with my new 4K Ultra HD smart TV. 1) It doesn't have any "audio out" ports so that I can use it with my home theatre sound system. (Like the current box I have and am supposedly upgrading from.) 2) It has ports on it that come with no explanation as to what they are to be used for and if they are "in" or "out" ports. 3) The card inside states that there are enclosed instructions on how to figure what other equipment I have needs that would need upgrading. No such instructions enclosed. 4) The card also instructs me to go to an Xfinity link for self installation instructions. No such instructions found for this new tv box online. 5) No instructions or information about the box are to be found either online or enclosed with the box. 6) The online Xfinity assistant cannot answer any of these questions nor does it even respond correctly to my questions and doesn't offer a way to find any answers. I have been an Xfinity/Comcast customer for 14 years. I am beyond disappointed. I am returning this equipment immediately and I will file a complaint with someone "live".
