    Chicken and Shrimp Hibatchi
    Lorene M.

I was starving after a grueling workout. Needed something filling and healthy, so I decided to try China Taste. This restaurant is located in a Plaza on Johns Island off of Maybank Rd. There is carry out and dine in available. It appears to be mostly a carryout business as there was no one eating in the dining area, and no hostess or hostess stand in view. I called in my order of Chicken and Shrimp Hibatchi. They offer all of the typical Chinese food fare as well as soft drinks. No bar is available at this location. There is plexiglass totally shielding the counter where you order and pick up food. It doesn't really give a warm welcoming vibe and makes it a little awkward to communicate and pay as you pass your credit card through a tiny hole in the plexiglass. The food is in a multi- compartment Styrofoam container. You get a large portion, but the food tends to get sloshed around and leaks in the bag before I got it home. I've seen other places pack the meat and veggies separate from the rice and I like that better. Less messy. The food was good. They were generous with the shrimp and chicken, and it was tender. The veggies were cooked perfectly and not mushy. They only offer white rice. I would have preferred brown, but it was tasty. Overall, it's not a bad experience for a quick grab and go meal. This is not a place to sit down and have that warm ambiance and dining experience. Price is average compared to similar restaurants. There is plenty of parking in the strip plaza.

China Taste is great for take out! I typically order the Sweet and Sour chicken combination plate with vegetable fried rice and an egg roll along with chicken fried rice - light on the oil. The food is always ready quickly and hot. The owner recognizes me and knows my order by heart when I call. Quick and convenient!

China Taste on Johns Island has quickly become one of my local favorites for authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine. When we stepped inside, we were greeted and our order was taken right away. Not a very big place, only one or two tables. Most all of their business is takeout. Their menu has a wide variety of classic Chinese dishes. The General Tso's Chicken is a favorite, with crispy, tender pieces of chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. For something little lighter, the Vegetable Lo Mein is a low calorie option, packed with fresh vegetables and savory sauce. This time around we tried the chicken and shrimp hibachi and it was absolutely delicious. Large portions shrimp, chicken, vegetables and rice. This dish also comes with yum yum sauce, which is a wonderful dipping sauce. Whether you're craving a quick TAKEOUT lunch or dinner, China Taste is sure to satisfy your cravings. It's a hidden gem on Johns Island that is a must-try.

Mapo Tofu and S6. General Tsos Chicken

We just moved to the island and we have been getting a lot of takeout during the move. I saw in reviews that they were takeout only, so we ordered on Doordash. I was craving mapo tofu, so I was excited to see it on the menu. General Tso's was rated number one on Doordash, so my fiancé ordered that. The food came quickly and had a good amount of sauces and fortune cookies to go with it. The portion size on my mapo tofu was huge, I think I'll get 3 meals out of it! My fiancés General tso's had a good amount of spice and was accompanied by fried rice that he thought was ok. The mapo tofu had a nice tingly spice to it and a good amount of veggies in there. Overall, we were both very satisfied with our meals. Definitely a great spot when you're craving some Chinese takeout.

Low mein, orange chicken, dumplings, sweet and sour chicken

We got the low mein, orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, veggies, egg drop soup, dumplings and Boneless Spare Ribs. We've been looking for a Chinese place in Charleston for 2 years. Everything we had was very good. My husband was especially in love with the boneless spare ribs. If you're looking for solid Chinese, we would definitely recommend it.

Very good Chinese food at a reasonable price. Combination platters offer ample food with rice and an egg roll.

I ordered a General Taos chicken. It's got a great flavor, the chicken is crispy and the right amount of hot spices. I love it!

Not a lot to compare to in the South but the chicken was under-seasoned and there could have been more of it.

One of the staff members shared the history and craft behind it, which made the experience feel like a genuine cultural exchange The Food: The Hot and Sour Mushrooms are the unsung heroes of the menu. It's not huge inside so if you're sold on dinner here, get a reservation! The staff is excellent about explaining the menu and identifying choices that can dial up or down the spice. We ordered a variety of plates including the marinated cucumbers, lamb dumplings, crispy potatoes, green beans, and Dan Dan noodles. Everything was absolutely fantastic, but the lamb dumplings and noodles knocked it out of the park. Everything but the green beans had some level of spice, but nothing intolerable. The food comes out family style and many of the plates are on the smaller side so it's made for sharing. We sat at the sushi bar, which I highly recommend, and from the moment we sat down it was clear we were in good hands. We were surprised right away with a complimentary amuse‑bouche--crab stick rolled with salmon--which was a thoughtful and delicious touch. To start, I ordered the seaweed salad while Justin went with the ginger salad; both were fresh, balanced, and a perfect lead‑in to the sushi. For the main event, I ordered a spicy tuna roll and eel nigiri, and this is where Zen really shined. The spicy tuna roll was exactly what sushi lovers hope for--very light on rice and heavy on fish, something that's surprisingly hard to find around Charleston. The eel nigiri was rich, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Justin ordered several pieces of sashimi and was equally impressed. We asked about albacore tuna (unfortunately unavailable), but were told the salmon was excellent--and moments later, we were unexpectedly served two additional pieces of sushi each. Completely unexpected and incredibly appreciated, especially for a birthday celebration. Between the quality of the fish, attention to detail, and warm hospitality, Zen Asian Fusion absolutely won us over. We've officially found our new sushi spot and can't wait to come back.

You definitely might need to cut it down or maybe half it for a bite but I still loved it. They brought it with a fork and knife, so it's kind of expected. I also ordered the Sambal or yellow curry with chicken. It was pretty good too. It came with a house salad. The dressing on the salad was delicious. The samba curry was really good too. I liked that everything came out hot. I also ordered the SC rainbow. It was good too. I pretty much liked everything I ordered. Id probably order all of those again. Service and ambiance was good. It seemed busier than I expected.
