I, in the kindest way possible, think this place is wildly overrated. Wait staff is very kind and attentive, but the food comes immediately after being ordered - like it's sitting on standby in mass amounts and is not made-to-order. So a perk would be zero wait time, I guess?! My friend and I ordered the edamame dumplings and drunken noodles - both plates tasted leftover and were clearly not freshly made. Good phô. Good Vietnamese iced coffee. Good, but a bit Americanized spring rolls (a bit heavy on the meat). As far as Asian food goes, this about the best we've had in the Savannah area. SO and I stopped here after a few days of southern cuisine overload. The chicken pho broth and noodles were good, but far from the best we've ever had. The lemongrass shrimp was full of fresh veggies, which was very refreshing. The bok choy was good, but over seasoned. This was our first time here, and our friends had recommended it. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed. We began with the Braised pork belly, which was decent. Got the Na Na Noodles which comes with beef or shrimp, wide rice noodles, soy bean sauce, chinese broccoll, egg, cilantro and onions. I got mine with beef and it tasted so good! Extremely nice waitress. Fast service. I was recommended the drunken noodles. $20 for the dish. Some of my noodles were hard and the chicken wasn't tasty to me, so I pushed it to the side. The sauce was good but it was almost soupy. A little less sauce would have made it better. The dish isn't worth $20. Maybe $18. I got the Vietnamese ice coffee. $9. I would suggest making a reservation because this place was poppin on a Sunday night. There's not a large dining room but a good amount of seating. I got sat awkwardly right in the center at a 2-top which was fine but I know the people around me got a good view of how much food I can put down! I literally couldn't decide on one thing so I ordered the roasted duck plate AND the wonton noodle soup with BBQ pork bc I'm a fatty! Their ticket times were A-1! My food came out quickly and hot. I let my noodle soup cool down a bit while I worked on my duck plate. So they give you this ginger fish sauce, OMG delicious. I asked for like 3 more sides to pour over my rice. I love spicy so they gave me a small spice rack and I stole all the chili peppers . The pickled carrots on top was a nice element of acid with the fatty but delicious duck. Solid 5/5 Noodle soup- I mean the broth was pleasantly savory, I'm obsessed with fried garlic chips cooked into the broth bc it gives it such a nice aroma. The veggies (bok choy, cabbage) scallions, perfect chewy texture on the noodles and the juicy pieces of BBQ pork. It's literally one of my fave things to eat on earth. My server from the get go was so funny and friendly. I noticed majority of their staff are Asian or Pacific Islander which I thought was really cool bc I'm part Viet myself and seeing how the menu has a dish from all parts of SE Asia was super cool. I legit took my husband here the next day bc I enjoyed it so much. We got the curry noodle soup and chicken dish. Very tender and juicy chicken with that same set up as the duck. I will recommend this restaurant again and again! Any chance I get to go to Flying Monk, I take it--and when I'm under the weather, I'll even Uber Eats my favorite dishes because I love it that much. Incredible experience and delicious food! We went to the Flying Monk pretty late on a Saturday night and were seated right away by the very friendly host staff. Our server Mina greeted up promptly and brought waters out with our drinks which was so thoughtful. It was a fun, casual vibe for a weekend dinner but could've also been great for a quick weekday lunch because the food came out in minutes. We tried the pho, drunken noodles, and na na noodles all of which were super tasty, great noodle dishes. They brought out some chili oils with our food as well and we found those very fun to try and experiment with the varying levels of spice. Came here for a quick lunch. Short walk from the Andaz Hotel. Such a great and varied menu nicely noted with the country of origin for each meal (Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam, etc). Service was fast and friendly. Quality phenomenal. Indoor as well as outdoor seating for either a quaint Asian feel or perfectly poised for people watching. Celiac folks--stay away. None of the staff (including the line cook) seemed to understand gluten or how seriously it needs to be handled. My wife has celiac, and when she ordered, I thought she was just modifying a dish, but what she got was dry and unappealing (they had served it without a sauce to make it GF). My dish was marked "GF," so I let her try a bite, only to find out later that "GF" items aren't necessarily prepared gluten free unless you specifically ask. At that point, she'd already been exposed. The staff member was polite but clearly saw "gluten free" as a preference, not a medical requirement. After seeing how upset we were, they didn't offer anything. This isn't a minor mistake. it's unsafe for anyone with celiac. read more

The Flying Monk is a place I've walked by hundreds of times in my Savannah days and have never dropped in. That changed this past Saturday. Pros: - Food is awesome. Flavorful and homey. - Wait staff is awesome as well. They have fun with their job and it's fun to see and be around. - Presentation. The food looked phenomenal (you eat with your eyes first after all.) - Food came out very fast. Cons: - Sitting elbow to elbow on BOTH sides of the table. It hurts, but I can't give The Flying Monk that 5 star rating. I believe eating is an intimate occasion. Not only do I love the food aspect of eating out, but also the experience. I enjoy talking with my wife, sharing our meals, being silly, and enjoying our company together. Unfortunately, when you're a foot (on both sides) from two separate parties you get lost with the intimacy in other people's talking/moving/phone calls/personal drama. I know, I know. More people in your restaurant means more money. More bodies equals more cash. For real though, take out two or three table areas and let people enjoy their food without getting elbowed with the person on either side of you. I don't want to hear other people converserations, I don't want to be touched by strangers accidentally, and heck - I don't even want to smell their food. I don't want my booth chair to shift when someone gets up either. Karen rant over - I got the drunken noodles and it was amazing. It tasted warm and even warmed your soul. I was even pleasantly surprised the cilantro and lime worked so well with the noodles. It had so many different flavors that all worked perfect together. I tried the combo pho and the green papaya salad to go.. Good part was packaging and portion size. That was all.. Everything was not authentic and super disappointing. Pho was decently flavored but nothing to write home about. Very black peppery and there was not a lot of meat with it. I would compare the broth to instant pho.However the meat balls tasted pretty good. Papaya salad made me shake my head so bad. It was not good at all, might as well just take it off the menu. Not made with a mortar and pestle. Not pounded like how it's supposed to be. They should at least give us a warning. I was so upset and took 1 bite and just stopped. Absolutely excellent! I enjoyed the food here so much! I highly recommend the Iced Kiwi Green Tea for a refreshing drink. It was not too sweet and it was very hard not to chug the whole thing. For appetizer, the egg rolls were probably one of the best I've had. They were made with pork and they were very flavorful. As an entrée, I ordered the Nana Noodles and wow! They were delicious. My partner ordered the Tao Dumpling soup and he was also not disappointed. The service was great. The server was attentive and not overbearing. The food came out quick and tasted fresh. Omg!! I can't speak highly enough of this restaurant. Easily my favorite meal of our Savannah trip. It smells amazing like cinnamon and all the fresh spices you love with these traditional dishes. Our server Joanna was kind, prompt and offered great recommendations. Idk what is in the sauce they make for the pad Thai but it is worthy of sneaking to the fridge in the middle of the night to steal some! The place is small but cozy. 01/2025 3.5 Stars. Food was good! I tried the Pho combo and that was my 1st time having Pho. Pardon me if my assessment is off due to my lack of knowledge of the cuisine. The meat had absolutely no seasoning. My left overs were even more tasty as I used the spice rack so they were able to soak overnight. Server was not attentive. I had to call him over several times from the front door where employees gathered to chit chat. He was friendly. The space we sat in was very close so when the gentleman came to clear and clean the table next to us, he was not paying attention and sprayed me and prolly my food with cleaner. I've been here twice on weekend trips and both times it was absolutely delicious with fantastic service. I will recommend this place to anyone visiting Savannah! If I lived here, I would go often ha. The chicken and rice dish was amazing - really good ponzu sauce. The noodle dishes are equally as amazing. Location is right in the heart of the downtown walking area. I wanted a break from Southern food while in town, and I was glad to see a few other options in the area, including The Flying Monk. It's more of a pan-Asian place that serves a variety of Southeast Asian cuisines, from Vietnamese to Cambodian to Thai. I opted for the beef pho, which came piping hot-- it took a long time for it to cool down and before I could even eat it! Sadly, broth was lacking in flavor, even after adding Sriracha to it. Otherwise, the rice noodles were fine and the beef was okay, albeit on the tough side. It wasn't bad pho, but I've definitely had better pho out there. As The Flying Monk caters more to the tourist crowd, I don't expect for it to be authentic in its dishes. However, for those non-Southern food cravings, it did the trick. read more

We came here to grab dinner ahead of a race. They were quite busy, but we were able to put our name in and walked around for 15-20 minutes and found our table was ready. Our party ordered the Na Na noodles and drunken noodles. We shared a small Peking duck. The Na Na noodles were enjoyed thoroughly. The drunken noodles has more of a lemongrass than coconut flavor. It wasn't spicy and my chicken was a bit dry. The Peking duck was more braised than crispy. Overall, the food was fine but just not what we would have expected. Service was nice.
