I should have checked Yelp reviews before scheduling an appointment with Richard -Owner of Burien Auto Repair. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. I called and made an appointment for my Suzuki XL-7 that I purchased on CL for $2500. I have a classic 1965 Mustang and a 2018 motorcycle so I buy junker cars to drive in between. I made an appt. for an ABS issue but told Richard I had several other issue small issues to fix. I could tell Richard wasn't super interested and made a couple comments that implied I would be unhappy with the work. None the less he said "bring the car in and I'll put it on the machine for $172.50". He had an air about him that was condescending on the phone and certainly not personable but I didn't take any offense and chose to ignore it. He also said his books were fairly open.. makes sense now.. Two days later (Wednesday) on my scheduled appointment time at 8:30am, I brought the car in. Richard showed up while I was dropping the key in the drop box. He was agitated, not friendly, and eating an apple - spraying bits in the air and speaking so quickly I could hardly keep up. We had spoken on the phone on Monday and I had a list of items I wanted him to check over in my hand. While we were talking about an issue with my broken trunk lever, he called my car a dinosaur and made an assumption that if he broke any of the "15 year old plastic" I would have a bad experience with Burien Auto Repair. At this point, he has been abrasive and rude to me throughout both interactions. I told him I was having a bad experience now with the way he was speaking to me. His ego couldn't handle that comment, he said he was having a "bad day" and handed my keys back. Said he wanted to pass on the job altogether. I had an Uber waiting for me to take me home I had to cancel. I was prepared to spend $1000 bucks cash here but didn't get the opportunity. I'll make the trek into Ballard to see my tried and true, respectful, and friendly mechanic, Harold. Here are my lessons from working with Richard Owner of Burien Auto Repair: Lesson #1: if Richard sounds like he has a chip on the shoulder on the phone when scheduling an appt - don't schedule the appt. Lesson #2: if Richard says his books are "pretty open" don't schedule the appt. Lesson #3: if you don't listen to #1 & #2, and schedule anyways, and he treats you with disrespect - you've been warned. Come here and write a review about. Shop did repair to alternator and created more issues. Christi at the front desk was rude when I brought it back to have them look at it after a dealership told me during install a harness was cut. She said the mechanic could do it with his eyes closed and was rude. She hung up on me. I had to call to ask if they look at it. It was there for 2 days to tell me it wasn't their fault or any suggestions. Just rude. I will be telling everybody in the community and social media because of the service I received so no one has to go thru what I have and now have to still get my truck fixed. read more

I have never had my car repaired here, yet. I stopped by and Rich talked to me at length about an issue with my car that is annoying, and he did not talk me INTO fixing something, rather, he talked me OUT of wasting my money. I felt he not only understood the problem but cared enough to know that a needless up-sell would be unwise. So, what that did was help me decide that I want to have my car repaired here if it ever breaks down. The damn thing is so reliable that it never fails me, so I might have Rich do the next scheduled maintenance. I have to find some needed service to give this a try! P.S. - Any place that has two perfect looking Nash Metropolitans in the shop at the same time is OK in my book. read more

I was reading all the reviews because I need to have an oil change and other issues with my car. The reviews are mixed so I decided to find out and experience it on my own. Here's my opinions: Great service and Joshua was very friendly, attentive and with great knowledge of the car. Although he forgot about my headlights but he immediately fixed it within 2 to 3 minutes right on the spot. - I didn't give it 5 stars because when I'm trying to make an appointment the person who answered the phone was not very helpful and she seems in the rushed or annoyed that I'm asking her questions. That guy Rich the owner totally screwed me over charged me over $1,000 to fix my power steering hoses new pump everything then after I got the car back and paid him a week later it was doing the same thing. Took it back to him and he told me it was because of a body issue and they don't work on the body and he could do nothin but if I got the body fixed he would fix it with free labor. Long story short found out by a REAL mechanic that doesn't screw people over that it had nothing to do with the body of the car and that the hoses were installed incorrectly, also saying that I shouldn't have been charged no more than $400 for the work that was done. read more

Burien Auto Repair --These guys are the best! My engine blew and they worked with my warranty company to make sure I was treated fair. Helped me every step of the process, I was never surprised! During the break in of the new engine they were on top of all the oil changes. I received a call from the owner, stating he wanted me to bring my vehicle in a little early to check on the break in... I expected to pay for the oil change and they said no charge.. We just wanted to make sure the engine was breaking in properly and it was our call to have you to come in early.. I will never trust anyone else with my vehicle.. They are now installing a tow hitch, yes they do that too read more

Called and caught the guy when he was busy. He said he would call me back and then hung up. He never called back. I called again the next day and asked for a price quote. He said that it would cost what whatever it costs. I explained that I was price shopping and hoping to get a quote. He replied that he'd be the most expensive price in town, said sorry he couldn't help, & then hung up again. I have no idea if his work is any good but I guess I never will. He should probably hire someone else to answer the phone. read more

Went in to see him about an issue over his work. He was just as the other view stated, obnoxious and rude to us. Decided to bring my needs to another shop in Burien (there are tons of options). They were really nice. I am trying to put that out of my mind as most places don't conduct themselves as such. I took my pickup to Burien Auto Repair based on the online reviews that I read and I am very happy that I did. I got an honest assessment of the potential issues and a reasonable estimate of the financial damages that I faced. After authorizing replacement of parts to a particular amount, I was very pleasantly surprised to receive a call stating that my problem had been resolved with a fraction of that amount. A less scrupulous operator would have maxed out the bid and been ok with that. Honest and skilled professionals are a rare breed and I will be a repeat customer guaranteed.
