I've been on comic-buying hiatus, but that ended yesterday! I was in Fort Worth and decided to visit Y2K. This shop has a LOT of inventory from all the big publishers, including my personal fav - Image! I don't really play games as much but the back half of the store seems dedicated to that. There are so many comics in the space, you have to dig around a bit for titles. Luckily, the gentleman working there was super helpful in looking up titles and assured me he could get most of what I wanted to the store within 1-2 weeks max if I wanted to place an order for something they didn't have. This is a nice place, tucked away in the back of a strip mall. I went in because I read a review of lots of games. They had several, but I'm not sure I would call it LOTS! OK I'm gonna give you a long and boring story, but it's my tale of Y2Komics and why I'm giving them a pretty good score. If you start reading this, please go all the way to the end. A few years back, around the time when the newer Scarlet Spider comics (Kane in that sweet red & black suit) was just getting started, I had just gotten back into buying comics. Not really collecting, but I'm not much for digital comics. I prefer to hold the books in my hand, I prefer to support local businesses, and I've always enjoyed the atmosphere of the comic book store experience. So, when I hadn't found the issues I was wanting at the place I usually went to, I did some Googling and found Y2Komics. My first visit was uneventful. Nothing bad really. The store was more gaming focused than the places I usually ended up going to but that's fine. Variety and all that. Plus they had a really good selection of graphic novels, TPBs, and back issues so it was fine. Some time later I found myself back at Y2Komics looking to fill out a story arc I was reading and I went in to see if they had what I needed. Luckily (or so it seemed), they did. Sadly though, after picking up a stack of books I wanted to buy I made my way to the counter where no one was seeing to customers. Everyone in the store was at gaming tables in the back. I looked for a bell to ring but found none. I called out "Is anyone working here today?". I called out again "Can someone help me?". Now, I may be a comic book nerd, but I don't conform to the stereotypes. I'm not small and I don't mumble. I have a big booming voice and it does carry. So after calling out for help 3 times, after waving my hands in the air trying to get the attention of anyone who would be willing to complete my purchase, I sat my stack of books down on the counter and walked out swearing I wouldn't return. Lucky for them I'm an honest person because I likely could have walked out with anything I wanted from the front half of the store. So a few years have past now and I once again have started picking up some comics from time to time. The old place I used to buy from closed down but Y2Komics is still going strong. So when I couldn't get a copy of a recent issue of a DC story I'm reading I decided to put this old grudge aside and see if they had the book I was looking for. I'm quite glad that I did. Unfortunately they didn't have the comic book I was hoping to find, but what they did have was a staff who was not only willing, but eager to help me. When I mentioned the book I wanted the fellow helping me went to the shelf himself to double check. He said he was really sorry they'd sold out of their second order of Batman: Dawnbreaker and he looked up when they might get a second printing for me. He then went on to tell me about other books coming soon and suggested other things I might like. The point is, this was a guy who wanted my business. A guy who wanted me to leave his store happy and well served. And I did just that. I bought other stuff just because the guy was so enthusiastic about comics! This was a great visit and I am eager to return this Wednesday to try and get my next issues. I'm giving this review a 4/5, but I fully expect they'll get the fifth star on my next visit. Thanks Y2Komics for really making me feel welcome and wanted. I will be back! ***UPDATE*** I just went back and once again was given excellent service by some people who clearly care about this hobby. I gotta give them the 5th star. I have been checking out all the various comic book shops in the DFW area and I must say that Y2komics wins the razzie for worst LCS I have visited thus far. My issue with it was not so much with the customer service (which was average at best) but with the business itself. If your going to pretend to be a comic book shop then at least do a better job at pretending that you actually care about comic books. This is a collectors hobby whether your collecting for investment or your own personal collection we collectors take pride in caring for comic books. This shop was dirty and very disorganized. The new comics were not displayed in any discernible order and many were damaged from either the customers or miss handling by the staff. They had boxes of older comics strewn all over the floor without any type of labeling or bags and boards. Are these older comics for sale, donations, or do you guys just not care. It seems that the bigger concern for this shop is the middle aged men in the back of the store playing board games. Hey I have no problem with that but just take the comics out of your business model or treat them with respect as it pertains to potential customers. Either way clean up the shop I felt like I needed a long shower after being in this shop. Needless to say I won't be back and will not be recommending them as a comic book shop to anyone. read more

The only person who was working there was very rude and not very helpful at all. Wouldn't get up out of the chair to talk to me or anything. Very disappointing experience, I hate that this store was like this I love to support local businesses but I will not return to this one ever again. read more

The store is located in a shopping center by the highway and they have a great variety of comic related items. We decided to check it out on a weekend, the place is kid friendly. Which is always a plus nowadays, since I've been to a few that are tailored to adults only. They have an area for game play if your into dungeon and dragons or any other group games. The people in the shop were really pleasant and extremely helpful when you're looking for something in specific. This place is pretty good place to come get you weekly subscription or watch people play games. I would recommend stopping by here once, if you're in the area. read more

So I've only been reading comics for about a year now and have been to a fair few comic shops and this is hands down the best and my official place to go to get my comics. They have everything a comic reader needs from an amazing subscription service, trade comic books, Variant comics and an amazing staff. If you're just starting out reading comics the staff here are non judgmental and are more then happy to help. Just be warned you may walk out with hands full of amazing comics. read more

This is our favorite comic book store in Fort Worth. They always have a good selection of stuff and the owner & employees are friendly and knowledgable. No matter what questions you have (whether you are just getting into comics or asking about some you just haven't read before) they are always very helpful and take the time to help you find what you are looking for and make suggestions. Man this place is dead. I was here on Wednesday night, yes release night and no one was around. The guy working there was nice and recommended some titles. But this place looks like its about to close and the lack of people makes me wonder what is going on? The place was stacked with comics and TPBs. Sad to see a comic book store so lonely. By far the best comic book shop in Fort Worth!!!! The owner Craig and his employees like Peter are very very nice and are very helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to comics. I've been a pull customer there for almost two years and they always have what I want and recommendations are very good on new comics and upcoming comic I might want. I don't have a lot of experience with comic book stores I have only been here and one other place and I am pretty happy with this one. I have only been reading comics for like maybe 2 years now maybe less and they have all the books that I need. Their store is a little bigger than Lone Star comics or Wild West is what it's called now I think and they carry quite a few manga as well as the obligatory table top games which they have quite a lot of stuff for. I mean looking at the dice alone makes my head hurt cause I have no interest or knowledge of that junk. If you want comics definitely stop in it's a nice roomy quiet little place. I look forward to my visits to it because I love leaving with a full bag of books. Like who needs digital comics right? read more
