This is one of those rare restaurants where every dish is an eye-opening and mouth watering surprise. Four of us shared family style, tasting a bit of everything. With one cocktail each, we got out of there extremely well fed and absolutely gobsmacked by the variety, quality, excellent service and extremely interesting dishes. Highlights: the cornbread made with chicken schmalz and served in a piping hot iron skillet with honey butter; the fried chicken (boneless and amazing); the hummus with burnt steak tips served with piping fresh pita. Picked Yalla at random because it was close. We started with the Turkish Carrot Salad very tasty. The pita is AMAZING! It combined well with the humus and burnt beef ends which was also fabulous. I was disappointed so many entrees were out of stock. I chose Bulgarian Kebab which was tasty but the pita was soggy from the accoutrements. The roasted cauliflower was somewhat bland and a disappointment. They were very busy and pickup was 10 minutes later than what we were told. They forgot an item. First and last visit to Yalla. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and when I finally did, it wasn't that good,, disappointed with the food, specially for the prices you pay, I think is over priced. I had the summer salad , which was ok, fried eggplant was really good but the octopus was over cooked so it was almost too rubbery. Another bad thing is that you keep breathing in the smoker everywhere. Had to change my clothes, couldn't wait to get out of the restaurant because of the smoke smell and Not sure how a handicap person or older person would go to the restroom, have to go downstairs and stairs are pretty stiff. Service was ok, anyway, I won't recommend this restaurant. read more

I've definitely been a fan Shalom Y'all, and was excited by a new take on Mediterranean food. The controversy over the Toro Bravo group and the new Sesame Collective aside, I was still optimistic and hopeful for something positive in these challenging times. We had originally planned on the carts across the street, but discovering they were closed, we decided to check out Yalla. They had tables setup in the parking spots as well as the sidewalk, but being a little skittish around the pedestrian traffic, we decided to do take out. While perusing the menu, the hostess informed us a table had opened on the back deck/patio, and we went for that. A slightly strange experience walking through an empty restaurant space to get to the tables in back, that was further accented by the printed rules in the menu, as well as the indirect service. While wait staff take your order, they bring food out to a cart adjacent to the table, and if you need to clear any plates mid-meal, they go in the bus bin on the bottom of the cart. In any case, we had the green bean salad, the hummus with burnt beef ends, the beef & lamb kebab, and the mushroom perogies. I really liked the roasted green bean salad, with grilled green beans served cold in a vinegary/acidic dressing. My partner was a huge fan of the hummus, the burnt ends adding a nick oomph to a solid hummus. The kebab was solid, though almost outshined by the fresh pita it (and the hummus) were served with. The perogies were good, though they didn't quite have the strong earthy mushroom flavor I had been hoping for when I ordered, with a more delicate hint of mushroom, complemented nicely with a dill creme fraiche. Everything we've had here has been great but for us the star of the show is their creamy, flavorful hummus. They have 2 options, traditional and hummus with burnt ends. Amazing, amazing, amazing! I really don't know where to begin. The hummus with burned ends was unbelievably delicious. Best we've tasted. We also had the fennel and date salad. Also amazing. Great food. Several dishes came out a half hour late and had clearly been forgotten by the waitstaff. Rather than ask our party if we still want the dishes that were forgotten, they're brought out an hour after we ordered. It was really kinda bizarre that they thought that was acceptable. I just discovered this place on 12/13. I have been there three times this week. My fav drinks is the Side Car (cold). It is definitely a must try! Every time I go I try something new. Had dinner at Yalla this past Sunday night. Ordered 2 dinners. Beef pasta and the prime rib. The beef pasta was delivered, but not the prime rib. Was assured the prime rib was coming. We waited at least 10 minutes for the prime rib while my dish was cooling off. That's just wrong. If your kitchen staff can't figure out how to have two dinners ready to serve at the same time, somebody back there needs to step up and take charge. The hostess that was working this evening needs reevaluation from management. We waited behind a group of four plus who were encouraged to dine in without reservation, apparently due to an unusual lull in the evening. They declined, then we (a group of two) were met inhospitably. We were allowed a seat outside (where you order to go and serve yourself), but were so rudely met by the hostess that we decided to go elsewhere. We were planning to look past the initial hostility, until one of us asked where to find the restroom and were looked up and down with such distaste that it appeared the hostess desperately needed the restroom instead. We brought our party of 12 on a Friday night. They provide a three course Chef's menu that is incredible. All 12 guests were raving that the food and service could not have been any better. Yalla was so delicious! The restaurant had a comfortable and cozy ambiance. We sat in dining room- but, the bar looked inviting or there was outdoor tables in the front or the back patio. The service was attentive and prompt. We had the Hummus with Burnt Beef Ends (order a 2nd pita- trust me, you will want it for all the delicious sauces), the Roasted Cauliflower with Almond Romesco, the Grilled Octopus with Crispy Yukon Potatoes and the Fried Chicken.
