Grilled Salmon salad, always the perfect lunch. And the employees are so friendly. Support local

Absolutely delicious and the cashier was the sweetest lady! Food was quick to come out and I got there right before the rush and got a seat to eat it fresh! The jalapeño sauce is to die for.

Came at lunch rush. The staff are so efficient and friendly. Food is presented beautifully. Salad dressing was so delicious and tasted homemade.

They were around the corner from my hotel and it was rainy so I walked over here to order one of the combo options that came with a gyro, side salad, and fries. Good price for the amount of food! And it wasn't heavy or greasy. Just the right amount. And tasty! I didn't wait long for my food either. Maybe 5 minutes. The staff was really nice too! It's a small space. A handful of tables. But it likely serves a lot of the workers downtown.

I was on a work trip here and this place was easily one of my favorite places to eat. I've eaten their salmon gyro plate twice now and tried their chef special salad today. Yummmm is all I can say. They cooked everything perfectly, and I love how large their plates are. All their employees are so friendly too. I wish they had a store back at home, but until then, I'll be looking forward to the next time I visit Portland so I can eat here again.

It's not a large place, but I could tell from the aroma and the menu that the food was going to be good. Everything on their menu sounds good but I went with the gyro plate and a vanilla latte. The lady who took my order was super helpful and extremely kind in helping me to consolidate my order into the gyro plate. The food....best pita and hummus I have ever had! The gyros and the tzatziki sauce I could eat all day! The sale looked regular but the dressing on it gave it a unique taste, a bit of olive oil and lemon taste. The vanilla latte was average but I should have gone with my first gut and ordered a con panna. They do have a wine and beer menu that would go well with their oldies music....I enjoyed the James Brown and Marvin Gaye while I dined!

Reliable (IMO) lunch spot tucked amongst the high rises of downtown Portland. Yea, it's a tiny space, kind of like a deli but more kitchen-y, carved into the bottom floor of a giant office building, but the food options are pretty diverse, with a full slate of salads, sandwiches, gyros, shrimp, occasional interesting specials like lamb shank, etc - that are surprisingly above par, and if you're pulling jury duty at the nearby courthouse, like we were, you'll be glad to have this place as a better destination than a food cart and with a fairly warm and comfy ambiance for an office bldg carve-out. Service is amazingly calm and friendly even during the lunch crush -- It gets super-crowded around noon when the office minions escape their cubicles --- and there is table seating but it's pretty limited. The gyro I ordered was super tasty and filling, and the price more than reasonable considering the portion size. Also, parking is super-tricky in this area (no surprise) but you're probably getting it validated anyway, right?

Very busy restaurant near the river downtown Portland. I got the shrimp burrito and it was very filling and good. It came with a small salad. You walk in, try not to get confused by the gathering waiting to get their food to go and order at the counter, then seat yourself. Everyone was friendly. Reasonable prices.

Gastro Mania is by far my favorite lunch spot in this area of town. I prefer GM to all of the national chains here and I prefer it to anything you can get at any of the nearby carts, food halls, and restaurants like Luc Lac for lunch. I typically gravitate towards their Salmon Plate. I love the squid ink rice that it comes with along with hummus, pita, and a side salad. The salmon is pan fried and pretty tasty and well cooked. Staff is friendly and quick and they've never gotten my order wrong in over 20+ visits. Gyros are pretty fantastic here as well.

I want to try other things on the menu but I can't stop ordering this salad! Everything looks very fresh and the place is clean and the staff are very friendly. A great place to go for lunch.

We were able to try a wide variety of dishes, and every single one was exceptional. I have dietary restrictions (no onions or garlic), and the kitchen and staff were incredibly accommodating. They prepared separate versions of several dishes for me without hesitation, and I never felt like I was getting a lesser experience. It's rare to find a restaurant that can accommodate food sensitivities so thoughtfully while still delivering incredible flavor. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish, and the service was impeccable. The staff was warm, attentive, and made our birthday celebration feel special without ever being overbearing. Everyone in our group left talking about how amazing the food was. We couldn't have asked for a better meal or a better overall experience. Mediterranean Exploration Company has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorite Portland restaurants, and we can't wait to come back.

We weren't too hungry and ordered 3 dishes to share - the hamachi crudo, baked feta with Blackberries, and braised Greek greens. The service was pretty fast, we received our food within 15 mins. The hamachi crudo was tasty with fresh fish that balanced well with the yummy smoked eggplant, tamarind soy, black harissa mayo, and crispy ginger. The baked feta was the heartiest dish, it came out with piping hot pitas to dip into the creamy savory/sweet feta and Blackberries. The braised Greek greens felt like the most basic dish out of the 3, collard greens cooked with a lemon/olive oil finish, which tasted as described but not exciting enough to order again. Just as the name implies, this restaurant is a nice way to try Mediterranean dishes for those who don't eat it often. Admittedly, the cuisine isn't in our top favorites, but all the dishes were executed well, true to their description, and made for some fun bites.

Nicholas Restaurant has a really cute, welcoming vibe, with outdoor tables and plenty of seating inside. They have a great selection of drinks, and I decided to try the house Arnold Palmer--made with fresh lemonade and cinnamon mint iced tea. It was unique and really refreshing. The hummus tasted incredibly fresh, the tzatziki had a nice tangy kick, and the falafel balls were perfectly crispy and flavorful. For my main, I ordered the chicken breast kabob plate, which came with two skewers, rice, tzatziki, and garlic sauce. The chicken was incredibly tender and cooked just right. Overall, a great meal with fresh, flavorful food and a relaxed atmosphere. I can definitely see why my family keeps coming back--this spot is well worth a visit.

After today, we've finally given up on this restaurant…read more This wasn't an isolated incident--it was the fourth bad experience we've had here and the third visit in a row where my meal arrived while my husband's did not. Each time, we were left waiting 15-20 minutes between meals, which meant my food sat getting cold while we waited for his. What is most frustrating is that nobody seems to recognize this as a problem. Whenever we asked about the missing order, there was never an apology or any acknowledgment that one person at the table was eating while the other had nothing. The response was always a casual "it'll be out soon." Today was the final straw. My food arrived (partially), but my husband's never did. We waited, asked about it, and received the same indifferent response. Meanwhile, my meal got cold sitting on the table. After a long wait and no sign of his order, we got up and left. I've never walked out of a restaurant without eating before, and we have given this place far more chances than most people would. Kitchen mistakes happen, but when the exact same failure occurs repeatedly and no one seems concerned enough to fix it, it stops being a mistake and starts looking like incompetence. Brunch is not complicated: people seated together should receive their meals at roughly the same time. After four disappointing visits and three consecutive experiences with the same issue, we've lost confidence that this restaurant can manage even that basic expectation. We walked a few doors down and enjoyed our hot breakfast simultaneously elsewhere. What a concept.

The young lady at the counter gave possibly the worst service I have experienced in a long time. She gave no acknowledgment, no recommendation, seemed bothered that we were there, no response when we said thank you multiple times. ZERO ENGAGEMENT! The place is also dirty and appears unkept. The outside seating area has trash and debris from the previous day...we were there right after open... needs to be swept. Doesn't appear like it has been pressure washed in a while either. Planters are smeared with dirt, concrete stained with food buildup and tables need a bath. The inside is just as bad, which starts at the front door. Front glass looks awful...smears, dirt, grime, and streaks galore. There are also signs peeling and tape residue left from signage that used to be present. Soda machine and bathrooms were also beneath expectations. You can't have a "thank you for supporting small business" sign if you aren't doing your part.
