Went downstairs to the bar to wait 30mins for a table (we got there 9pm on a fri). Nice atmosphere down there. Got an umeshu (plum wine) while waiting, my date tried japanese whiskey (Nikka) which he liked. Got our table on ground floor, not as good an air or atmosphere, but too bright, not intimate, and open huge room, wasn't very impressed. Ordered eel nigiri sushi, dragon roll, dim sum and sashimi platter. Sashimi was beautiful.....and this is coming from someone who lived in Japan 3 years!!!;) Nigiri was ok, sushi rice fell apart though...which it shouldn't... But the best part was dim sum, the scallop ones especially!!!! Melt in the mouth, just gorgeous...totally recommend!!! Got a Wacky Wacky cocktail which had umeshu, creme de casis, strawberry, passion fruit, Apple and lime. It was lovely. Lychee cocktail was nice but really sweet. In general I found the cocktails a bit overpriced... But overall I liked this place, wait staff were ok, front door staff were friendly and cool cod they came down to get us at the bar like they promised:) read more

First things first, I really like the atmosphere of this place. I've been upstairs for dinner - stylish, gorgeous, standard faux-Japanese decor - and I've been downstairs for a cocktail and a bite to eat - a sort of speakeasy style, black and white movie on one wall - and both areas are very nice and completely different. One minus are the very tired benches in need of new upholstery but then it IS kind of funny if one of you sits on a chair looking down on the unfortunate benchsitter. Foodwise? We shared the choice of 5 jappas (japanese tapas) which is a good amount of food for two people, some of it was very good (try the pumpkin koroko) but we were a bit disappointed with both types of gyoza. Service could be a little bit better but the cocktails are amazing and if you want anything that is not on the menu, just ask - cocktails alone would be five stars! read more

It was time to have Japanese food in Dublin, near the City Centre. I read very good reviews on Yamamori Izakaya. From the outside, you think the place is really small, however once you step fully inside, the restaurant is fairly large, including a bar area. I saw non-traditional dishes that had more of a Korean flair such as the Bimbipap. This rice dish came loaded with lots of bulgogi beef and vegetables in a hot stone bowl. The rice was a non-traditional black and gave this a nice texture. The servers were quick and efficient, filling the water frequently. The ramen with chicken and seafood was delightful and very flavorful. This Japanese restaurant is a great find in a crowded city center district of Dublin. I would gladly visit this place again if given the opportunity. read more

This is for me the best all round Japanese place in Dublin. I mostly go to Izakaya downstairs instead of the restaurant above. I enjoy the relaxed bar feel with tapas food being brought out while you drink. First of all the food is always perfect. We usually order a mixture of Sushi, prawn tempura and maybe some veal or pork belly. Portions are not massive as it is "Japas". But 3 portions will have you full. The cocktails here are pricey, usually over 10 euro but they taste amazing so are value for money if you ask me. The Old Fashioned being my favorite. The bar also does a range of Irish beers and beers from Japan. At night the place is alive with electro music, dancing and even an old Japanese film playing in the back round. Izakaya can be very busy at the weekend so I would recommend booking or getting in early. read more

Highly recommend spider, rainbow, prawns tempura, venison and the crayfish and avocado norimaki. We had delicious gins at the end and moved downstairs where it was casual and fun! Update since my last review: I felt the food had improved significantly. Despite doing away with the impressive offer of 4 courses and a beer for €25, it appeared to me that the portions had increased in size and had more flavour, so better value over all. A portion of dumplings, an Oriental burger (served with a beer for €10) and a side of sweet potato wedges were served promptly and devoured in half the time it took them to arrive. I persuaded everyone to get dessert and they did not disappoint. The banoffi is damn good. Cocktails were also top notch. I had a "Seven Samurai", made with Gin, citrus, ginger and Chinese 5 Spice. Yes that's right, a spicy cocktail. It tastes better than it sounds! The atmosphere was great and is perfect for the mid twenties crowd. The only downside is the music does get pretty loud come 22:00, we couldn't hear each other. A great place to start a night out though :) read more

I arrived earlier than the opening time and was surprised by friendly and welcoming staff. We sat at a very cozy and privileged spot while we wait for the "official opening". Yamamori Izakaya is my default place to go grab a bite to eat when I'm in the city centre. Great Japanese tapas menu. Sushi, dim sum, duck pancakes and sweet potato wedges are all delicious. I must be more adventurous and try something new next time. Great decor and atmosphere. Staff are friendly and have always managed to squeeze us in somewhere even when the place is really busy. My friends and I had been craving sushi and after walking around to a few other places we settled on Yamamori Izakaya. We came in around 6:30 pm and the staff was super attentive. There weren't many people dining which added to the chill ambience. I ordered the dragon roll and while I was a bit hesitant I was not disappointed !! The portion was big enough to fill one person and while expensive the food was definitely worth it. The staff is also so friendly which is always a plus in my book. Went there on a Sat night. Was my third time there in about 9 months. First two times were dates, and had no complaints about the place. Took friends there (including an Italian visiting). We were taken aback by the high prices and poor service. €3.50 for a can of coke. When querying why my white wine and coke ordered was €10, the barman made a pretence of adding on his fingers going 6.50 plus 3.50 = 10 and shrugging. Severe attitude re-adjustment needed with the staff, plus ditch the Celtic Tiger prices for SOFT DRINKS and you may get more/happier customers read more

If at all possible, this would get three and half stars. Generous here because it's great on weeknights, but not so hot over the weekend. They stop serving sake at half nine on Saturday night! Why? That's one of their selling points, surely? However, I've genererally really enjoyed my expereriences here. Downstairs from the Yamamori, you enter into a darkish room with films playing in the background, attractive decor, and wooden stools that will nearly kill you if you try to move them. The food is in a kind of tapas style; ie, there's a menu of small dishes that are priced individually, or you can order three and a drink, or four and a drink etc, which comes in at a much better deal, price-wise. Each dish arrives when it's ready, so it's much better to buy for the table and share. The food is gorgeous. (I could live on those little pork dumplings!?) With two people sharing three dishes and a flask of sake, the bill is around €20, which I think is great. At weekends however, it gets very very crowded, and extrememly hot and loud, so it isn't a pleasant place to eat, if you could even get a seat. And now they don't do sake anymore? I think I'll skip it at weekends, but otherwise it's great for a late night meal. read more

Dublin's culinary scene is probably not well known for good Japanese and sushi, but Yammamori is slowly working to change that perception. Once you enter the basement, you are transported from Dublin to Tokyo with big wooden tables, Japanese art, and a bar stocked with Asahi and Sapporo. The beer menu isn't extensive beyond this, and it would be nice to have a Japanese craft beer option or two. The space is not very huge, so expect a wait or book ahead. The menu is huge, about 4 pages of sushi and Japanese style tapas dishes, yakitori. It's a great way to get introduced to Japanese cuisine as dishes are small, and you can try many. The sampler is also a great way to try a bunch of options such as sushi and chicken skewers. One of the more interesting options on the menu are the octopus balls, tangy tender meat in a tasty sauce that make a great appetizer. The big tables are also great for groups. The prices are a little high for the size of food, but the quality is excellent. read more

I like all the yamamori restaurants but by far Izakaya is my favourite. The sushi is outstanding but don't stop there. They have the Japas menu which is Japanese Tapas. Make sure to try they Oysters, they are outstanding. It looks and feels like a real Japanese restaurant, perhaps helped by being the home of the original Bewley's Oriental cafe. Never go in here without having some truly Japanese beer or sake. Especially the beer. If you are lucky, they will have Hitachino Nest: Nipponiaon on tap. Otherwise, be sure to have some of the other Hitachino nest beers in bottle. If Irish beer is more your thing, they also have Irish Craft Beer in the form of O'Hara's IPA and Stout on tap. Service is also good, by that I mean, the last time I was in, it was very busy and we were waiting for our food. I barely noticed to be honest but without a complaint, our waitress apologised and offered free deserts. So without wanting to be rude, something frowned upon in Japan, we graciously accepted of freebies. read more

This place is incredible--food and service! I am from United States (Maryland specifically) and my girlfriend and I came in tonight (Sunday August 2017) for dinner. I ordered two California rolls --one with black rice and one with white rice and both were fantastic. No imitation crab meat in these rolls, which is something I am not used to when ordering sushi. My girlfriend ordered a dragon roll and the pieces were huge and the taste was even bigger! The best part of the whole experience was the service. At one point a man who wasn't our waiter, I believe he was the manager, came over and made sure everything we ordered was to our liking. He also refilled our drinks and struck up some conversation about his upcoming visit to New Orleans (City in US). I can't rave about this place enough and it caused me to break my yelp silence and write a review! In our trip to Dublin we ate at another sushi place, which failed to compare with the food and experience here. read more

Visiting from the states and ended up at this neighborhood sushi gem. The decor and food were great. My friend had the haddock tempura and loved it and I had sashimi chef tasting and it was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend. read more

This loud place (at times) in the basement of the Yamamori Oriental Cafe is perfect for an after work beer/cocktail and some great Japanese tapas while watching some Japanese silent films on the big screen. They have great deals for food (25 EUR x5 tapas), and beer+tapas (I believe that it is 20 EUR for 2 beers + 2 tapas) -- these include Asahi, and Sapporo, but not the number one - Kirin Reg food, I particularly recommend the burger, but all is good... including the fairly sizeable Japanese curry. The last time I went it was possible to also chose food from the Oriental Cafe upstairs. Staff are nice, but the place can get very busy on a Friday/Saturday afternoon, so do be patient. oh yes... do watch your back when lifting the stools ;) read more

Very disappointed with my spider roll here recently, for €18 I expected it to be better quality. It was mostly batter and hardly any crab, or, at least, it had been fried for so long that all the delicious crabmeat had totally dried out. Lychee lemonade was delicious and my companions' food looked really good so I won't write it off completely. Service was a little bit cold and unfriendly the evening we were there. read more

By far my favourite place to go for a drink. Izakaya is a small bar below yamamori on George's street. From our very first visit I fell in love with it. Very cosy with an awesome selection of drinks. I'm a big fan of Japanese beer so always love going here. There is a Japanese tapas style menu too which is always nice. They also have a cocktail menu that isn't the run of the mill style. Well worth checking out. And as my friends do all the time when go visit you should "release the kraken". Get a kraken with freshly squeezed lime and a single ice cube. It's our tradition now and a good way to start the night. read more

Came here for dinner last week with my girlfriend, after reading all the great reviews. Biggest disappointment ever. First, made a reservation online, got to the restaurant and they had no record of it. Not a huge problem as it wasn't too busy. Service throughout our very short stay was pathetic. Slow to take orders, slow for drinks to arrive, and when the food finally came, came all at once, overcrowding our table. I had ordered 5-6 different dishes, some dim sum, meat dishes and the sushi platter. Dim sum was alright, nothing fancy, but the sushi platter was mediocre at best. The small pieces of Norimaki were loosely rolled and liked to fall apart when picked up. The fish on the nigiri was thin and tasteless and were placed upon huge portions of rice with barely any wasabi underneath. I've have better sushi from the grocery store. After seeing how horrible the food was, we asked for the bill and left. Slow service, and terrible food. I'll never come back here and will never recommend this anyone. I cannot believe that this is "authentic" Japanese food. If you want a better dinner experience, we went to Cirillos down the street right after. read more
