The appetizer was about room temp instead of hot. Afterwards, we were only supplied with 1 refill after the drink being empty for about 10 minutes. Just got to town and was starving. I ordered a sushi roll, fried rice and mushrooms. Let's just say for $18 it was a waste of money. The sushi was awful, fried rice was horrible and sticky and no flavor. I have had better from the frozen food section from a grocery store. The mushrooms were undercooked. Being new to the area we decided to try this place out - when we walked in we were immediately greeted with smiles,a friendly hello and seated ! I've ate at quite a few different Japanese places and this one isn't bad by any measure but I wouldn't say it's the best Japanese I've ever eaten. I described the restaurant like this: you know you designer purses that are super expensive and then there's the purses you buy out of the back of someone's trunk that are knockoff? This is the buy out of the back of someone's trunk kind of Japanese restaurant. It looks like the real thing, I feels like the real thing, but it's just not the real thing. But it's still good. I had the chicken hibachi and we tried the lobster Rangoon. I also had the spicy crab roll. The lobster Rangoon didn't taste any different than crab Rangoon to me so I enjoyed it but I expected a little bit of a different flavor. I expected a larger serving of my entree from previous experiences at other Japanese restaurants. I did think the spicy crab roll was well made and reasonably priced. The atmosphere of the restaurant felt rushed, almost as if the remodeling of the restaurant wasn't ready for opening day. I will definitely return to eat at Yamato's again but it's not going to be first in my line up of restaurants. read more

TLDR; food poisoning & poor service 1. Our waitress desperately needed additional training. She was slow, inattentive, and very confused about menu items and the sauces available. 2. I ordered the Lobster Rangoon as an appetizer for the table, which we didn't receive until AFTER we were halfway through our entrees. Despite its untimely arrival, it was delicious and would highly recommend. 3. For my entree, I ordered the Dinosaur Roll and the Spicy Yellowtail Roll. Neither were quite right. According to the menu, the Dinosaur Roll is prepared with crab. Instead they made it with shrimp. Put simply, I find shrimp detestable. The Spicy Yellowtail Roll was aesthetically pleasing, but had the texture and consistency of puréed stale McDonald's French fries. 4. I can, with certainty, say the Spicy Yellowtail Roll gave me food poisoning since I was the only person at the table who ate it. Whimpering on the bathroom floor isn't really the way I imagined bringing in the New Year, but such is life. read more

Look...I take my sushi very seriously and this place doesn't disappoint. I mean, everything else I've tried is good too but good sushi is hard to find so when you do, you'd better mark it in your gps. The place can get a little crowded at times but I suppose that's a good thing. The establishment does a good job of handling crowds and accommodates just about any request. I usually get the shrimp and chicken dinner and it's flavor is wonderful. We top everything off with a nice helping of sushi and usually have to be packed out of the place. Called the restaurant 3 times to have the order corrected or refunded to be told "There's no manager" and "You didn't pay us so we can't refund your money" and "We can't bring you the correct order". Personally I did NOT enjoy the entire experience. My GF really likes the sushi but other than tht I wldnt have even went. I had the chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki is the Japanese version of teriyaki NOT the American version of teriyaki. What's tht mean..?! Well the Japanese version of teriyaki is VERY VERY pungent in taste. Almost to much really. I did order an eggroll & personally I enjoy Worcestershire sauce with eggrolls, it sets it off & is the best! So once the eggrolls came I had ask for some worcestershire sauce & the waitress said tht she had never even heard of tht before & had no clue what it was. I asked her to see if they had any and no they did not. Which was definitely a disappointment. The eggrolls where NOT homemade either & were VERY VERY greasy! But good. They had been frozen & just dropped in a deep fryer. Plus they were too hard. And you know me if I dnt finish my meal I usually ALWAYS take mine home ya know well NOT this time. I told my GF tht they cld "throw tht sh!t away." We had a laugh & left. Personally I think tht their being super generous with the whole "Japanese experience in dining" not for me. But maybe for some. With tht said I give it 2/5 bc technically the food was edible. The staff shuffle you in & shuffle you out. It felt like my waitress was "too cool" to even be there. Worst place  to eat at Japanese in Middlesboro ever.It all started when we ask for a booth seat  and the maitre d did not understand what it was . We should have left then.  Our waitress was very pleasant.  To start with the salad  had no Ginger sauce dressing. Then the Sushi does not stick together at all and fell apart as you tried to grab it. The sushi was not wrapped tight it was very loose. You couldn't tell the difference between California roll in the Boston roll. It tasted mediocre.Paper skin paper thin scallops no taste. Lots of onions very little vegetables, actually 2 slivers of zucchini. The meal needed to  salt  quite a bit in order to get any type of flavor . The complete meal was drowned with some type of soy sauce  substance that had no seasoning to it at all. Even a rice the rice has drowned. After I explained to the waitress that the food was awful I explained it to the cashier and whose stated that they would let the manager know. At least gave me a $5 discount as a veteran. She didn't really care the cashier and whether we liked it or not. It was a waste of $77 I hope nobody else makes a mistake. Anybody else says it's reference great they've never eaten real Japanese restaurant before. Closest thing to one is in Morristown called the Sakura. I love the the food there and great sushi and most servers are great but one that looks like a walking disease he has no teeth and fresh track marks so I assume he shot up while at work and if I can see it and tell he is messed up I know the manager knows but still allows filth like this to touch my food or anybody else's is truly a major problem so I would say go and try it but I will also say it is a chance of hepatitis from the looks of the junkie that will be handling your food so as long as you don't see the toothless disease serving I will recommend them and hope that is the only one in there like that I wouldn't put this about somebody but I lost my appetite once I realized what brought my food out to me read more

One of the best places to get sushi and grilled chicken in one spot. The service was out of this world. Do your self a favor and dine in.

When we first went in we requested to be seated in a booth and the host refused because he said that section was closed. We should have left then. I understand avoiding that section if the customer has no seating preference but if they ask specifically ask for a booth I think they should seat you there. Then, when our food arrived we had order shrimp with vegetables and rice. There was very little zucchini and mostly thick onions. The sauce that the entire plate was covered in was so salty that you couldn't eat it. And the shrimp was over cooked and tough. You could see burnt spots on it. The salad had no ginger dressing. When the waitress ask us if we needed a box because we hadn't eat the food we told her no and why we didn't eat it. The manager came out and spoke to us and apologized but didn't discount our ticket so we still paid $60 for a meal that we couldn't eat. We love Japanese but this will be our last trip here. read more
