I ordered my steak rare & it came well done & hard as a brick, t tried for 5 minutes to waving with no response so I walked up to a worker & explaining the problem & he said " what do you want me to do about it". I said I would like to have my dinner cooked correctly, he said you'll have to take it up with your waitress. She came over & asked if I wanted a side of steak & I asked so I keep my rice won't it get cold, & she walked off. She came to the table with a box & asked if we needed a box, "we said yes" she turned around & took the box with her. We finally got up & got our own box. They just stand around doing busy work. Had the shrimp and scallop hibachi. It was good. I would ask for not carrots. They were too sweet and didn't taste good with the rest of the food. I just picked them out and it was fine. I would also avoid the scallops. My husband said they were fine, I didn't care for their taste. Otherwise, everything tasted good. I would recommend this place and I would good back!! read more

This place wasn't "it" for us. The ambiance was a "hole in the wall vibe", which we took as promising but also sketchy. We quickly realized it wasn't as promising as we had hoped. The miso soup was pretty good, but otherwise we ended up spending so much on a meal that wasn't satisfying for any of the four of us there. The service was great but the sushi and hibachi was subpar. It looked so good in photos so we were so sad when it wasn't as flavorful and fun as we had imagined. read more

The place ain't much to look at. It's not the knife flipping, metal, clanging, normal, Japanese type hibachi. In fact I didn't see one Asian anywhere, but the food was great. The portions were huge. We were passing through from Ohio stopped on the way down and then stopped again on the way back. I definitely recommend it. read more

We've been huge fans of the Kazoku Food Trucks in Knoxville for a while, and have now tried their restaurant twice. The first time we ordered take out, 2 Steak & Chicken combos with no soup/salad. We were told they would bring it out to our vehicle. 35 minutes later we went in to check, and they had made the meals and forgotten to bring them out to us. Tonight was the second time. Upon entering a paper sign on the door informs you due to inflation hibachi menu items are $1 more than listed on the menu. We were brought menus and drinks (water) quickly and placed our order. We had the jalapeño bomb appetizer and it was great. Then we sat without water refills until our food came (steak and chicken combos again). Our waitress apologized for the wait and said part of our food had to be remade. Once my hubby and I took bites, we knew the rice had been remade as portions of the chicken and steak were nearly room temperature and carrots were cold. We ate our meals and told our waitress. She apologized, walked away and told the other waitress we were complaining (we could hear her) and came back providing a discount. After both experiences, we will stick to hunting the food trucks while in Knoxville and not bother stopping in at the restaurant again. read more

The last three times my family and I have tried to eat at this restaurant they're either having technical issues or as we were told tonight "We're closing early because of no business". I'm sorry I really tried to give this place a chance but you can't run a successful business if you're closing because you're not busy. read more

Kazoku is right across the street from a hotel. The reviews were mixed, but the convenience made it worth the chance. The restaurant itself is lackluster, but I have had great meals in restaurants that lack atmosphere, so I was not deterred. There was only one other table occupied during my visit. I had a friendly greeting, and the server was quick to come for drink and food order. The salmon sashimi was good, not great, but paper thin. I have never seen sashimi as thin, and I have had my share of sashimi over the past 40 years. The server brought me a fork wrapped in a napkin, and I had to ask for chopsticks. Read that again. There was no dish for the soy sauce, so the only option was to put the soy sauce directly on the sashimi. (Low sodium soy sauce is not an option) The seaweed salad was just meh. The shrimp hibachi was overpowered with sweetness and frozen carrots. It wasn't a teriyaki taste; it was more of a sugar dump. I found it inedible. I wanted to "wash" the dish to rid it of sweetness. The edamame had no salt at all on the shells. The food was excessively seasoned, or completely absent of seasoning. Maybe I hit it on an off night? read more

We found this restaurant just outside our hotel. So, we crossed the street and walked in. At a glance, the room inside has a simple clean layout. Clean tables and chairs. Clean floor. Clean everything. We were greeted immediately by every staff here, made us felt welcomed and familiar. Actually we live in the Bay Area, California. Yes, we're away from home. We're here just because we never been. There's a board with special sushi called Chilly Cheese on it plus what inside it. So, we ordered that. Since we're in Caryville, we thought we must order Caryville roll. And, we also ordered Dinosaur roll to go. We figured we'd like to nibble on something later in the hotel. We got a small bowl of soup and a small side of crab with cucumber maybe. The soup and the yummy side, so good! Tasty and awaken our taste buds. We suddenly saw the room starting to shine brighter. If the soup and small side already this good, the sushi must be spectacular! And, indeed, the rolls we ordered, all delicious. Especially the Caryville roll. The balance taste of salty, sweet, spicy, and the umami, made my toes curled up and danced in joy! Goodness! And I ate my fair share of good sushi in The Bay. I have to point out something looks simple but actually it does not: the sushi rice. The sushi rice will make or break how good the sushi will be. This place, here, makes one of the best sushi rice I have ever tasted. I ate lots of sushi in Japan and other places in the world. I know what good sushi rice taste like. I will sing my praise for Kazoku for a long time, because I am that happy to find such good sushi here, in Caryville, Tennessee. Who would've thought, right? So happy! read more

We have been to this location several times since it's opened. We love that it is less than a minute walk from our hotel. Had some sushi and shrimp / salmon hibachi, which was pretty good. Staff very helpful and order time to food was short. Portion sizes are generous. We will be coming back! read more

it's good, but they do use a bit too much rice in their sushi and the rice isn't salted or anything it's very plain and flavorless. their staff is very friendly and it's reasonably priced. i haven't tried any of their hibachi. also, they close at 9PM, not 9:30 fish part of the sushi is good and decent portions read more
