Yang Kee overall is a decent restaurant. The food is fresh and based on what I've ordered the BBQ items are pretty good. However, the staff here moves very slow. I think I'm overall a pretty patient person also so sometimes a little wait here and there wouldn't bother me much but this place literally takes their time. Which is good I guess but there has to be some sense or urgency. Today I ordered a whole chicken and a rice box. Seems easy right? I waited over 15 mins for these 2 items. Also, I ordered my chicken whole which means I didn't need them to cut it and I still had to wait a decent amount of time. The rice box I ordered was where I started getting annoyed. For spending $20 on a rice box, don't you think us customers deserve some type of sauce on it? Mind you, this is $20 for a rice box which is a pretty steep price and I had to pay more money just to get sauce on it. Pretty ridiculous I must say. The rice box had so much rice in it, quite possibly the most rice I've ever seen in a box. The rice to meat ratio was absolutely lopsided so when I was done eating I had so much rice leftover. Complaining over more food doesn't ideally happen but the rice to meat ratio was just so off. I've lived in NYC my whole life and have eaten Chinese BBQ for as long as I can remember and everytime I order food regardless or how busy, I'm usually in and out. Now that I moved to Elk Grove, there hasn't been much good Chinese BBQ spots but Yang Kee can be promising if they fix these little issues. I also observed the lady behind the chopping board today and also thought to myself that this is the first time I've seen someone cut the charred pieces off a strip of cha siew and spent more time trying to make the food in the box look pretty than to be urgent trying to serve it. I know presentation may be important but this is Chinese bbq, it's ok. Not every piece of meat will fit in the box perfectly. Customers will not blame you guys if a piece of meat isn't in place in the box. If they can fix these small little things, I believe this place can be one of the best in the Sacramento area. Will also come here again if I'm in the area but if it takes too long again then perhaps I'll just have to live with it or just go somewhere else. read more

I an pretty stoke that they opened this place near me, so I don't have to drive to Stockton blvd or Freeport for my roasted duck and soy chicken fix. I ordered from the kiosk, paid and was waiting for my order when they called my number. My order wasn't ready but they called me up to notify me that they ran out of roasted pork. Their inventory isn't current or updated on their kiosk so I would suggest that you order directly at the cashier. It's a little pricer than other places that sells these kind of items, but with gas being expensive, you're saving gas money so it evens it out. The duck tastes scrumptious. Flavor and moisture of the meat was great. Soy chicken was amazing as well. I didn't care for the chai sui/bbq pork - too many fat and the little sprinkle of green stuff they put on top as garnish can be removed because it made the dish taste odd. After moving from San Francisco I was hungry for dim sum so i visited this place. What a mistake. This take-out place looks good from the outside but their menu is confusing. The confusing menus are posted all over the place: outside window, inside window, the wall, ordering window... the online menu is confusing too and you cannot see the side choices if you want to order a rice plate. A cautionary note: The smaller dim sum choices are ok but the chow mein is very greasy. It was either the greasy chow mein or the lotus wrapped rice that gave me a horrible stomachache and cramps all night. I got 2 fortune bowls, one with chow mein and orange chicken, the other plate with chow mein and duck. The food itself was pretty good and they give out good portions, but they can improve on their timing. I had to wait 27 mins for my food, which I think is outrageous considering the amount of food that I ordered. There were some ppl in there but it wasn't too busy. Some ppl who ordered after us got their food first, which I think is crazy. Please try to do better, if I knew I had to wait that long I would have not gone. read more

Came in on Mother's Day and they were extremely busy, but the team did a great job handling the rush and getting orders out as quickly as possible. I ordered almost $400 worth of food, and the staff was super helpful bringing everything out to my car. All the dishes were on point. The dim sum was delicious, even the baked goods to-go were great quality. The soy sauce chicken, roasted duck, and every dim sum item we tried tasted fresh and well made. The taro cake especially stood out, there were actual shredded taro pieces. They were sold out of a few items by the time I ordered, which honestly says a lot about how popular the place is. Visited on a Monday around lunch time 4/27! Ordering was super easy, the menu is pretty straight forward. Ordering was also quick. You can do it with a cashier or kiosk but the wait for the food took some time. I think I waited about 30 mins or so? Would've been nice to know ahead of time the long wait. I assumed it'd be quick since the items were already ready. I tried their sui mai, ha gow and combo plate. The combo plate was $19.25. If you get anything other than white rice it's an additional charge. I chose crispy pork and duck for my items. The crispy pork was kind of bland to me, the skin was crispy though. The duck has more flavor and I actually really enjoyed it but there were barely any meat :( I'm not sure if I got the end of it but it was all pretty much bone and skin. I personally prefer the meat over duck skin. For the combo plate it's loaded w cabbage and pickled veggies as well. The ha gow shrimp was very generous. I think the dim sum price is average & portion is too? There's no dining space in there's it's just to order and take out! New spot opened and we wanted to test out and compare their roasted duck, chicken, roast pork, and dim sum basics like hargow and suimai. Inside was small and had no seating. Purely take out. They take yiur order or you can use the kiosk. They were very busy and had 13 people working. They took our order wrong and we did not find out till getting home. They wrote down BBQ pork instead of roast pork. What a downer. A bit pricey for the meats compared to other places. Also the dim sum was the average size and tasted just ok and only 3 pieces compared to the standard 4 in restaurants for that size. Land Park has a place that offers bigger portioned dim sum about same price and 3 pieces, our go to spot and will go there instead. The chicken was definitely good and better than the Asian supermarkets. We would come back for this as it is not too far away so the higher price is ok. The roasted duck was a split disappointment though, good flavor and skin. However there was really no meat on this duck, scrawny, and was mostly bones. I wouldn't come back for the duck and get it elsewhere. Since they messed up our pork order we didn't get to try the roast pork. However the BBQ pork did have good flavor overall and cooked well, the meat was pretty lean and could have been a little bit more fatty. We will wait perhaps a couple of months before coming back and hope to see improvements. read more

Ordered online about a week and a half ago on a Tuesday for lunch and got the roasted pork belly and siu mai. Got to the restaurant and they told me they were current out of roasted pork belly and asked if I wanted something else. I told them I'll just take the bbq pork and asked since the pork belly is more expensive, are they going to give the difference back. They said yes and asked if I wanted it back in cash or charge back to the card. I told them to just charge it back to her card since I didn't like carrying change. That weekend I went back to place another order in person and asked about the charge back since I have yet to receive anything. The cashier said he was going to write down my information and give it to the general manager since they are the only person who can look up past transactions. So I took his word for it, gave him my contact info, he took a picture of my receipt and still have not heard from the manager nor have I received the charge back difference. I really wanted to make this dim sum place work because it's close to my home even if I think the price of their bbq options are on the high end. However, we were very disappointed with our take-out order experience (perhaps it might have been a different experience had we dined-in instead). After our neighbor recommended this place to us and we were really excited to try the roasted ducks at this restaurant. We ordered 2 full roasted duck, half of soy sauce chicken, one shumai and some orders of pork buns. The total came out to be over $100. We were told to place the order online for roasted ducks and chicken. My wife came to pick up the food 10 minutes before the estimated time, and the food was really packed on the counter. By the time she got home with the food, every dish was cold. Not even lukewarm. For the roasted ducks, I noticed that the top pieces with skin still crispy but the bottom pieces have soggy skin. That got me thinking perhaps the ducks were pre chopped and refrigerated ahead for togo orders. We called the restaurant to let them know that the food was cold. After several attempts to get a hold of a manager, we were told by an employee on the phone that it is "culturally" to reheat the roasted duck before eating. Is this normal for asian restaurant? We were utterly speechless and disappointed that after spending over $100 on food and only to reheat it before eating. We certainly won't be coming back here again. read more

The portion size was good, and I appreciated that it contained real shredded taro pieces. However, it tasted like it had been prepared in old oil, which took away from the quality. First time here. Purchased a whole roast duck. Duck was juicy & flavor was decent. You definitely need the duck sauce they give you to pour over it for added flavor. I would come back here for the duck since I live a few miles away. The last roast duck I purchased prior to this was from Ranch 99 & dry & horrible. Yuck!
