I will echo many comments of previous reviews - spicy chicken is the way to go. It is delicious, and a tremendous value. Typically I can't eat the large, and about half of it comes home with me. I love this kind of place, that really only thrives in college towns. They do a limited number of dishes very well, and they do them over and over and over again for a decade until it is predictably perfect every time, and they offer huge portions at stupidly cheap prices. Every time you go in there the place is filled to the brim with impoverished college athletes and weightlifters looking to get a huge dose of protein on the cheap. I went here, looking for something to eat, only to find that my vegetarian self had one option: rice and cabbage. Sure, the prices are cheap, but from the looks of my friend's chicken, it had seen better days and resembled jerky. The actual sit down area is unremarkable but it does have a nice sit down area for when it's not raining in Oregon. Good luck with that. read more

By far my favorite place in Monmouth! Food is very good, inexpensive and good portions. I wish they offered free refills on fountain drinks but that isn't a big problem as the cups are large. The people there are always friendly. Would highly rec! read more

HERE IS MY YANG'S SURVIVAL DIET. I make a point of not pushing my views about the stupidity of your food choices in person. Just ask and I'll expound, but if you eat any serious amount of fast food, this place may be preferable given our current radiological fallout forecast, for a (GAMMA STEAM EVENT) lasting several hundred years. Also I got fancy degrees and book learnin, but I make sure never to put them ahead of common sense. I'm a student here and I'm only committing to staying through Spring Term. See you in choir this Fall, and let's all learn to sing "BRING OUT YOUR DEAD" when we start dropping like flies. But also let's chill, know what I'm sayiin? I am ready to eat their Yangs every day as long as they will sell it to me. I will be shopping at the fire hall every wednesday and saturday until they too (FLEA) in terror. I will eat the plant-based diet and try not to laugh at your stupidity as you load his real food with sugar carbs. Yang knows customers, and he's got both the best and worst teriyaki options waiting for you. It's on the menu, and here is that menu: TERIYAKI CHICKEN, OR PORK, OR BEEF, (pick your meat-poison options carefully). CABBAGE: If you haven't eaten fresh raw food so far today, you really should get the raw cabbage. I'll be in the neighborhood most afternoons with fresh raw produce, just and you can gnaw on some green beans(?). But literally you show yourself to be a moron in a survival situation, just by saying you want no cabbage. WHICH KIND OF CABBAGE? Let me briefly explain what's (NOT) on the menu. Half cabbage and half meat. It's not on the menu, and because he knows I'll tip hi the arbitrage I can get away with it once in a while. So when yelp and living social are derided as food stamps for the declining middle class, do you need Mr Yang and his peeps to sling food at you, and is you broke enough to both order the food and not tip him the arbitrage? PRE-MADE SAUCES: No extra sauce. You want no extra added sauce. The put a certain basic teriyaki type sauce on your rice almost from memory, the literal truth because all peeps there are essentially wage slaves. Your americanized diet means you'll never get healthy levels of fat burning, not even in the hour before you wake up and find your breakfast cereal. Seriously folks, I graduated from basic survival school in the air force twenty years ago, it's the negative-reinforcement training you get once in awhile to fall back on, and SERE school is a great example. Your body doesn't need a single gram of excess sugar at Yangs. If you want to outlive my aging (asses, I have seven of them) ask for NO ADDED SAUCE. THE SPECIAL: You want the special. It's on sale from the moment they open in the fall until it's gone, and expect it be gone by lunchtime. UNSWEET TEA He's got it, it's in a brewing machine, but it's real tea. Be sure to pay him for every single refill. As a worker bee and de facto wage slave, Yang is paying you to drink real tea beverage instead of consuming Pepsico swill sugar and chemical shitstorm (i.e. Soda). He's got sugar for your unsweet tea too. SODA OPTIONS He's also got a selection of sodas in the fridge, and I think he's got K-cup coffeemaker(?), and if enough people ask he'd probably start with mexican fruit sodas (Jarritos?), and even bottled throwback pepsi. ADDING SAUCES Go ahead and add soy sauce, and don't worry about the GMO soybeans or gluten. Or add the non-sugared hot red sauce. There's already soy sauce in all the prepared meats, pretty sure, so you might as well get your gluten-addict opiod response without the processed ingredients in bread. THE UPSTAIRS Yes I know people smoke cigarettes up there. I have seen it, that's why they have a fan up there, if they gots to go upstairs and clean up someone's act. WHAT'S THE CHEAPEST REAL FOOD? A cup of water (they're free), a small teriyaki from the menu with (whichever) cabbage, and no added sauces. Still under four dollars, compare to what you'd actually get if you took up Subway corporation on their four dollar lunch offer. read more

I've had better. Way better. Their food is already ready and cooked. Which is okay, but by doing that. The food just gets dry and overcooked. The portions is wonderful. They do give a lot. But the rice is the worst. Dry and overcooked. If you plan to save it don't. Because the rice will dry up faster than you can dry a sun dry tomato. Even though it is a fast food Japenese Restaurant. I wish they would cook it on the spot. But, the location is great for college students and their prices are fair. This is a good choice for the poor college students out there. The food is pretty cheap and will fill you up. You can add spice if you like, and the teriyaki flavor is good. Be aware-- they are cash only! Also they have good and bad days like any restaurant, so if you have a batch that doesn't hit the spot, don't just write them off. read more

Like everyone else said, Yang's is a great place to get tasty and inexpensive rice bowls! However, Yang's does take debit cards now. They charge an additional $0.35 to cover the cost of running the card but this seems like a small price to pay considering the convenience of paying with a card. read more

As fast as you want it and quick on the go when you approach the counter, this is a hot join for students and transients alike. On my four day trip through the town, I absolutely loved the huge meal and the nice pop selection. It's good tasting food and rice but they stack on the rice and noodles quite a bit, so be warned! Great place, geat people, and great food! Must try the spicy chicken, it comes with delicious rice, and I always get cooked cabbage, yum! The chicken has a ton of flavor, but you can always add extra sauce (teriyaki sauce). Vey filling, and affordable. Gets packed during the school year, at lunch time that is how popular it is especially amongst college students. Tip: you can call ahead and say what you want, say you'll be there in however minutes you'll get there, if there's a line you can just go to the front and say you ordered by phone, a lot of people don't know you can do this, and I'm not sure if they still allow it, but I used to do it all the time in my college days, when I would go there for lunch. read more

College students at the local university may know delicious food to cost value, but for those of us who have moved on Yang's is a wonderful comfort food. I'm a very new resident of Monmouth; and a very happy one. Coming from California, I've had my share of teriyaki, from the good to the just plain sad "eat it and try to forget what happened." Yang's however, hit the trifecta of goodness: huge portions, low prices, with tasty, recognizable ingredients. I ordered a large #3 and realized swiftly I'd ordered my dinner and a lunch for tomorrow. They asked me about cabbage when I was ordering on the phone, and I thought to myself, "Cabbage? Who cares?" I was wrong there, too. It's actually good!... not a squalid, pale, dish rag afterthought. The rice was great: not soggy, with a nice flavor on its own. The chicken was great as well: plenty of it with nice grill marks. And finally I snuck some noodles in. Wow, they tasted fresh too! Darnit Oregon, it's like you care about what you eat. I used to live in Monmouth and like most college students have since left. If I am I traveling and am lucky enough to get within a 30 mile radius of Monmouth I make it a special point to stop off at Yangs! Not only do they have the best Teriyaki around, but it's cheap and you will not find a friendly, and cuter family! Cheap, fast, delicious, friendly. The food is simple: delicious grilled pieces (thigh meat) of chicken, pork (I think) and beef. Rice or noodles for an extra buck. You also get either cooked or sweet and sour cabbage. I HIGHLY recommend the sweet & sour cabbage option and the hot & spicy chicken (not too spicy, just lots of flavor). I have been going to Yang's over the past decade and the place has only raised prices once. For $5-6 you get a large that can serve two, or one VERY hungry person. First timers should get a small. I am an eyes are bigger than my stomach kinda guy and when a large sounds great, I probably could have used a small. There is upstairs seating that is rarely occupied and can be used for a quiet conversation, as well as a patio outside. The family is so friendly and polite. The service is great. Yangs is a japanese teriyaki hole in the wall sit down or take out eating place! it may be small and not as remodeled as an applebess or Red Robin but they sure do know how to make food! I ususally get a #6 which is beef teriyaki with rice and your choice of cabbage or non at all! i will eat there any day! The down side is that they are not open on weekends!
