Review for the truck on 46th and 6th. After hearing a lot of hype from my coworkers, I decided to give them a try. The truck smells amazing but I think that's where it ends. The fries were good for fries but let's​ be honest, we're all here for the chicken! I got the Winner Winner for $10 - which consists of chicken tenders pretty much. The chicken is like the other reviewers say... pretty overcooked and just gummy. It's weird. The sauce they give you for the chicken is not good either, it's kind of like a weird take on honey mustard, ketchup, ​and mayo but lacking something to make it all blend well. The toast they give you, well toast so. The coleslaw was pretty bland and gross. My coworker said the same as well for their potato salad. Not sure how to ultimately rate this truck. I find myself echoing various snippets of other remarks left by other reviewers. Everything that was said both good or bad, all is variously true about this purveyor's wares. It's a 'mixed' experience. Yes, the chicken I had was slightly rubbery and slightly chewy; but it was also very tender. It masticates very easily, by that I mean it is very soft, almost limp as it dissolves in your mouth. Not sure whether I like this or not. There was some hint of pleasant flavor but nothing to make me leap out of my chair. I doubt the chicken were marinated in any creative or elaborate manner. They were acceptable/adequate for what they were purported to be, I suppose. Best tenders I might ever eat in this life? No, I can't quite see how that claim could ever be true. Price: a bit steep for the size of the meal, ($13); you can wolf the meat down in just a few bites and no, it was not very filling. The toppings like lettuce/tomato/pickle were all rather half-hearted and average. Fries were okay; but again--nothing very special or exciting. The much-touted "'76 sauce": eh, helpful in places where the generally moist chicken ran dry in spots. Like a slightly spicy Thousand-Island recipe you can make at home. Something more disturbing to me (upon reflection) is the patriotic paint scheme, marketing, logo, and symbology of the company and the truck. It's overboard and manic. Spearing a little cocktail toothpick in a chicken tender meal....okay...but with a miniature American flag on it? Come on now. That's tasteless. Please drop that flourish. Overall: I am glad to have tried a new food vendor and I wish these guys well. Service was lightning fast, efficient, experienced. Truck was clean. But frankly I wouldn't go out-of-my way for it again. I really wish my #1 truck had been present (for some reason they weren't and Yankee Tenders filled in for them). But man, for $13 what I usually get is a colossal sized hot pastrami sandwich so whoppin' good it slaps my tongue up and down like an upright bass. Meh! I suppose I will give Yankee's a 2 star rating because I know I won't ever try them again unless there's no other convenient alternative. I really like these guys but they move around too much so they can be hard to find, also they sometimes will forget something in the lunchbox, so it's a good idea to check your order before you leave. My favorite is the Red White and Blue Chicken sandwich, get it premium for cheese, lettuce and tomato. read more

So, my office moved to Old Slip about 2 1/2 years ago and there was literally a dozen food trucks outside everyday. If I could give zero stars I would because that is what it deserves. We had the misfortune to select Yankee Doodle Dandy's food truck last night at the Lantern Festival in Queens. The chicken seemed to be low quality, it was overcooked and had no flavor just the taste of old cooking oil. The sauce smelled musty/moldy, fries were not seasoned and texas toast was cold. Did not even venture to try the potato salad so I can't say if it was good or bad. We had 5 orders and no one liked what they got, barely ate anything yet still didn't feel well after. So Ive been to this food truck twice. They come by my job very often now so I get excited when I find out they are in the area. The food was ready in less than 5 minutes and it was fresh and hot! The first time I had "winner winner" and it was chicken tenders and fires with some potato salad on the side which was great! But the second time I had "American club" which was a chicken sandwich with some special sauce and fries. When I took the first bite, I was so amazed. Writing this review for my husband Kyle who doesn't Yelp. So the guy on the truck told my hubby he could have a free drink if he wrote a Yelp review but that it was on the honor system. So as an honest American Kyle is keeping his word, at least by proxy, through me he is... Kyle said the place was good enough for a review whether asked for one or not! The truck was parked on 47th between Lex and Park today when he tried it. They went around 2:00 pm so the line wasn't too nutty as it normally would be during New York power lunch prime time. He ate the Club Sandwich. He loved the all white meat, fried chicken. He appreciated the quality of the chicken and that it was real chicken and not fast food pressed and formed mystery bleached and breaded "white meat." He also loved the Texas toast for a delivery system and the Spirit of '76 sauce. He said that although its your basic chicken sandwich, it wasn't basic at all! He was a bit bummed that they didn't have diet coke. The guy told him that diet soda was un-American. But what's more American than eating greasy, cheesy, fatty goodness, and washing it down with a "healthy" diet coke?! That's the one thing makes you feel a little less guilty about your guilty pleasure! And that hypocritical justification for bad choices is what America is all about! Occasionally, I crave really unhealthy food, and this food truck definitely satisfied those cravings. For $10, I got a huge order of a fried chicken sandwich and fries. The highlight of the meal for me was really the fries. They were slightly thick but still crunchy and tasted extra delicious with the dipping sauce. By the time I finished the fries, I was far too full to even eat the chicken. Eventually, I did make it there, but I found the chicken to be a bit dry for my liking as I am not a fan of chicken breast (prefer chicken thighs). I prefer them just a bit crunchier, but I like that they weren't sitting under a heat lamp and they are hormone free. the fries are close to perfect in my book: perfectly crispy, natural cut, and fresh. the spirit of 76 sauce is a bit of an oddity as most places would serve a bbq or hot sauce. the spirit of 76 seems to be on the "cool" end of the sauce spectrum (eg, tangy and spicy thousand island). but it works! add a slice of texas toast and you have a pleasing meal. seems like they have a frequent customer card. so ask for that. awesome truck! read more

I tired the Red White and Blue Cheese Chicken Sandwich meal. Texas Toast, breaded chicken tenders slathered with buffalo sauce and blue cheese. A healthy side of fries and a chipotle sauce along with a sliced pickle made for a solid meal. The sandwich was filled with chicken and the Texas toast held it all together. Finger licking good. This truck has long been a favorite of mine, and I can't see that changing anytime soon. Yankee Doodle Dandy's, as far as I know, parks at the South Street Seaport 7 days a week. They do burgers, grilled cheeses, salads...and they're all good, don't get me wrong, but their chicken tenders are really what's special here. They're fresh, and perfectly breaded and fried. Throw in some really good fries on the side and you've got a great meal. Just make sure you get some of their homemade Spirit of '76 sauce on the side to dip your food and fries in...it's absurd how good that stuff is. My go-to item recently has been a grilled cheese with their chicken tenders...and holy crap, I'm hooked. It's not on the menu, but they've always made it for me when I ask for it. I dare you to order one and not love it...it's fantastic. Also, the owner is the man. Josh really cares about the customers and the quality of the food, and it really shows. In short, the food (ESPECIALLY their chicken) is phenomenal, the service is great, and you're getting a pretty substantial amount of food for your money. I really couldn't recommend this truck more. Got the "Winner Winner" which came recommended by the owner of the truck. Generally I try to stay away from fried food for lunch but if you work in DUMBO you know the options are pretty limited. The tenders were damn good, juicy and tender but I was surprised that the outside wasn't crispy. Fries were really good too and the pickle was delish.
