Their 4.5 star overall rating is what got me to order from them one day. The guy in the truck who took my order was super friendly, and gave me my food pretty quickly. I ordered the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner combo which came with chicken tenders, fries, and a slice of Texas toast. The fries and sauce were a great combo, and the Texas toast was buttery-goodness. The chicken tenders, however, were a bit of a salt bomb. I had to rub the breading off to be able to finish them after my first one. I'm was hoping for more with the all the raving reviews. Maybe I'll give them another chance in the future, or try their chicken sandwich instead. read more

Stopped by the food truck to grab a quick lunch to take back to the office. Decided on the Buffalo soldier platter. The chicken was really good; the buffalo sauce is definitely custom and not just off the shelf. The sauce did take away from some of the crispiness on the chicken, but that also could've been because it took me 15 min before I started eating it. Whatever the sauce they gave for the fries wasn't the best, but ok. I would go again to check out the sandwiches or other flavors. Lots of food for 14 bucks which is nice. Was at an event in NJ. Went up to his food truck. 1 person was behind me. She got a chicken sandwich an a drink, I saw the total n it was $24. I went to order. All his prices were covered in a green tape except the bottom 2 listing. I ordered a winner winner dish w no drink. I was and gave him a $2 tip. He gave us the food, I paid for it and left. I turned around to ask him how much was it and he said $24! I was like what and turned around again to leave. We had 2 chicken tenders and French fries! I we t back again to double check and yup it was $24.95. The food truck next to him was $12 for chicken tenders and fries and the next truck was $15 for the same thing. I was so upset! I called the business the next day and asked him how much was the winner winner dish, he wouldn't give me an answer but asked why I asked him. I explained what happened and he said that they were fresh n I said he was price gouging and I was reporting to the BBB abd leaving a 1 star review. So I did and then he started to text all mean and nasty stuff about me. In December 2012, I met a guy in the overflow line waiting for a bus to Boston who told me about how he wanted to open up shop in New York and make true, southern style chicken with good southern hospitality. And those expectations were definitely exceeded today. Real talk, I hate condiments. Especially ones that are salmon or red in color (old childhood trauma we don't need to talk about). The dill in the sauce perfectly complemented the pickles in the sandwich and didn't overpower the rest of the ingredients which definitely left room for the chicken to really shine. Upon the founding of this great republic of the United States of America, Benjamin Franklin had pushed for the national bird to be a turkey, calling the Thanksgiving mascot a "bird of Courage, [who] would not hesitate to attack a Grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his Farm Yard with a red Coat on". Yankee Doodle Dandy's takes the delicious poultry cousin of the turkey and dressing him up in star spangled regalia, hopes to pass the bird off as deserving of your lunchtime meal. Sadly, this fine feathered friend off the back of a truck fails to live up to the regal heights other chickens have set - even those a fast food places nearby. While the whole story of Yankee Doodle Dandy's is admirable (after winning Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, they used the million dollars to open and start these trucks), the food is not. My understanding of a rubber chicken was that it was supposed to be used for gags and prop comedy, not fried up and served on a bun. Not only was the chicken in my Love Me Tender Chicken Sandwich rubbery and chewy, but it was utterly devoid of flavor as well. This is a sad fact, as there is so much chicken on the bun and so little of it is actually enjoyable. While the recommendation was to slather the sandwich with their "Spirit of 76" sauce (a mix of mayo, ketchup and seasoning), this did little to add to the overall enjoyability of the sandwich. However, the fries that came with the meal were a great take on the usually overlooked potato - covered in an amazing seasoning, which was complimented nicely with the Spirit of 76 sauce. Overall, the chicken could use another American Revolution in order to get me to order from this truck again. read more

I really wanted to like the food here but it's just not very good. The fries and coleslaw were decent but the main item they serve is chicken tenders which were below average at best. Like other reviewers I found their chicken's tenders chewy and rubbery. I've never had tenders that had such an unpleasant texture.
