*Review for To-Go* I popped it and the restaurant looked empty, so I ordered online. As it turns out, the restaurant is only open for pickup on Tuesdays. The woman that greeted me when I stepped up to the back counter was warm and kind- she asked if I had a preference of salad or fries to accompany my gyro. Let me say this: For $18, the gyro is a spectacular deal in Seattle. The meat was tender, the pita was fluffy and fresh, and there was just a dusting of spice on top of the vegetables. In my humble opinion, there wasn't enough tzatziki...but I think it's because it was so good I wanted more! Everything tasted homemade and fresh off the stove. We were across the street at Phinney Station where you're allowed to bring outside food. I got the chicken pita wrap and my cousin got a pita with shaved meat. The meats are so juicy and it went perfectly. We split the greek salad and fries that accompanied them. It was a perfect combination since we were outside and it was a warm day. I ordered the falafel plate through Door Dash today. When I say this is the most disgusting food I have ever ordered - I mean it. I've been to Greece. This is not authentic by any means. It's highway robbery. I paid $20 for 4 cold falafels, three pita triangles and a couple of shreds of lettuce and cucumbers - oh and canned hummus in a little plastic container. These are not fresh or homemade ingredients.. Oh, and everything tastes like it came out of a can or microwaved. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I got the pikilia dip- the 5dip platter and the vegetarian mousaka. The dips were wonderful and there was a good proportion of the pita. The deep fried pita was so good. The main was quite a portion, I could only eat half and packed the rest. I got the roasted potato side and those were so good! I loved this dish. We also did the baklava icecream. What a genius idea. My friends introduced me to this restaurant today. It was my first time here and I was blown away by how delicious everything was that we ordered. I got the special chicken Santorini and we split the fig salami mezze. Both were phenomenal and full of seasoning/flavor which is hard to come by in Seattle. Came here for dinner, service was friendly but extremely slow. Overall the dinner was mediocre. Come for the skordalia (if you like garlic) but that's about it. It's a great garlic dip with pita bread. I ordered the half roasted chicken for my entree and it was big but didn't taste great. It sort of tasted like a reheated Costco rotisserie chicken with some Greek seasonings and feta sprinkled on top. Lemon potatoes didn't have much flavor, which is unfortunate because I normally love lemon potatoes at Greek restaurants. Prices aren't high, but the quality and taste also isn't great. Interesting they offer a 10% discount if you pay cash. Parking is street parking, depending on the them it could be difficult to find. Overall, I wouldn't ever go out of my way to eat here, I would probably only come here if I lived nearby to walk here and didn't feel like cooking. read more

How I heard of this place: It's in our neighborhood and we pass by it nearly daily. For one reason or another, we haven't ever ventured inside. Until now. It was recommended by friends we were meeting for dinner when we shared that our kids wanted gyros. Type of cuisine: Greek. "Yanni's restaurant (formerly Lakeside Café) is family owned and operated since 1984. We take pride in our hospitality, customer service and especially our preparation of the food. We try our best to bring you only the freshest ingredients, would it be from our gardens or from the vendors we choose." Ambiance: A sweet and cozy space, the interior is lined with Greek artwork and themes. Plants can be found in the window-like spaces between the two dining areas. The lighting is ambient and soft. The tables lined with butcher paper for kids to color on (crayons provided), and the space is warm. We were the only customers inside for at least three full minutes before I had to walk up to the two people behind the counter and ask if we should seat ourselves. One woman looked somewhat put out when I asked and snapped back, "We'll seat you soon." Once seated, and our friends - regulars at the establishment - arrived, the mood of the older woman completely shifted and we were treated with the utmost kindness and hospitality. What I ordered: Gyro Street Fries ($15) to start - fries tossed with diced fresh garlic, feta cheese and herbs, topped with handcut strips of lamp and beef gyro, fresh diced tomatoes, onions and tzatziki, served with pita triangles. Have been looking for authentic Greek food in Seattle and stumbled across yannis. The only place I've found that has moussaka. Tried a variety of menu items. I had the beef moussaka and was not disappointed, super yummy! We also tried the dolma and I had a Greek salad as my side dish. My friend tried the lamb slouvaki & the lamb was super tender and flavorful. Was super full at the end but got some bougatsa to go, it came out warm so of course I tried a bite before leaving. I went to Yanni's Greek because I wanted to experience what Gordon Ramsay did on Kitchen Nightmares. First of all, I sat at the same table that Gordon did so that was an interesting start. I started off with the lamb lollipops which were very good and the perfect appetizer size. Then I got my moussaka as my main entree. Even though Ramsay criticized it and I am a fan of his, I felt his review was wrong. The moussaka here is made to order so it does take time. I grew up in a Greek neighborhood so I know what good moussaka is. When I dug into my moussaka, it was piping hot, wasn't oily and very flavorful. It's 100% legit moussaka for sure and it's worth the wait. It's absolutely shocking when you see what Ramsay said and what he wanted them to do in regards to their moussaka. I'm so glad they stuck to their guns and kept this dish the way they've always done it. I finished my moussaka to the last bite. I can't wait to return to Seattle just to order this again. When you dine at Yanni's, you absolutely must order the baklava ice cream. That is the best way to end your meal here. The baklava provides a great texture to the ice cream but it doesn't come off as soggy or inedible. It is blended in nicely with the creamy ice cream and comes off as guilty pleasure because it's not overly sweet so you can devour it easily. I lucked out because they had like a half a portion left and they gave it to me. I was so happy to have tried it and it really put an exclamation point to my meal. By the time I left, the restaurant was packed and I can see why. Even though I went to Seattle as a tourist, I always dine where the locals go. If the locals love it, then you know you're in for a treat. I was so happy to hear all of the stories about the Kitchen Nightmares experience. It was so interesting to me because you can really see what they gained from the show (decor and menu decisions) and it really made me love Yanni's even more. As for the food: Chicken Krasati-- this was my favorite dish, it was very tasty. The combination of the artichokes and mushrooms and the slightly tangy sauce was a great combo. Saganaki Cheese: This was good, only thing that could have been better is the cheese separated from the oil immediately. Not sure if this is an authentic way to eat this but I've had it at other restaurants and it hasn't been an issue. I love the decor and ambiance of the space; I'd love to dine in soon. The food was delicious. We ordered dolmas, lamb gyro burger, and falafel gyro. My spouse and I had a great time here and we are both vegan. Karen was our server and she was great, she helped us navigate the menu to get vegan food ordered, which was way easier than expected. It was disappointing that the pita has whey in it and there were no vegan bread subs but it was so helpful to be informed of this by the restaurant staff, before we ordered. It's such a welcome pleasure to interact with staff who know what vegan is and actually work to help us get appropriate food ordered. We each ordered the falafel platter, no pita. The falafel was great, some of the best I've had anywhere in the US. The hummus and baba ghanoush were also good, especially the baba. It was smoky, no hint of bitterness, pure aubergine heaven. We started with fava bean spread, no pita, and the spread was really good. I had a glass of retsina and a shot of ouzo, both were tasty. I drink ouzo iced and with a healthy squeeze of lemon and the ouzo was good sipped neat and iced with lemon. The retsina was also tasty. We'll be back and I'm sure we'll have a great time but there is no rush on our part. Would that there was a vegan bread option to eat up all the other delicious things. Were there a vegan breadish option, we'd be back MUCH more regularly. read more

Let me start by saying, the food is delicious. We have been here many times and always had great food. My only complaint is the service. This is the second time in a row we have been here and the service was terrible. Last time, the excuse was someone didn't show up for work. Ok, I can accept that. This time we went with friends, got seated immediately. Just after we arrived it got very busy. It took 10 minutes to place our order, another 45 minutes to get our food. Even though both couples ordered at the same time, our friends food took another 5 minutes to arrive. They also forgot to bring the soup appetizer that 1 friend ordered. The waiter came by and picked up the dishes, but then I had to corral our waiter 10 minutes later to get our check. All in all, totally unacceptable service. I have traveled by this restaurant on many occasions but they've never been open at a time I wanted to have lunch there. I've always had to go down the block to pub in order to enjoy a meal. However, the other day they happened to be open, and I had a chance to visit to see how it might meet my standards for tasty Greek foods. It took the person serving me a bit of time to acknowledge me when I first arrived. However, once she did everything was spot on with her customer service. Oh, and I loved her accent and pronouncing the dishes natively. The restaurant is spacious enough, seemingly clean enough, and had an OK ambiance. Menu choices seemed to be varied enough to please most people. However, at first glance there's nothing that jumps across as low carb or without sugar on the menu. The good news is my wait person was able to direct me to numerous things which didn't have sugar and/or were actually low carb if ordered with vegetables instead of the pita bread. I ordered a red pepper type hummus. I can't remember the name, and cucumbers with celery sticks, with a side of gyro meat. I made my own little handheld bite size appetizers by putting the meat on top of the cucumbers with a dollop of the low carb hummus. Was quite good! I am often nearby in that neighborhood. So, I'm going to give the restaurant another try in the future just to make sure that I really liked it as much as I think I may have. read more

A great family run joint for tasty Greek food. We grabbed a sampling of items to enjoy for dinner after a long day of touring around the city. The avgolemono soup was fantastic and flavorful, so warm and hearty on a cold day. The serving size was huge as well, much more than a little soup appetizer. The spanakopita was pretty tasty, nothing extreme or out of the ordinary, but it's usually a winning combination of flavors. The babaganoush was tasty, but quite heavy on garlic. I do love garlic, but this gave us some pretty long lasting garlic flavor in our mouths, so be warned! The pita was exceptionally soft and squishy, just as it should be. We shared a gyro with greek fries. The meat was wonderfully tender and flavorful, a really great balance of meat and sauce in that perfectly soft pita. Fries were just ok and not overly crispy. A wonderful dining experience at Yanni's. Even though they admitted to being short staffed, they were attentive, timely, and served up a most delectable meal. There were four of us there for a 6:30 Sunday evening dinner to celebrate my birthday. My friends are regulars there for many years and stand by the authenticity in taste of this favorite Greek restaurant. The decor also carries the Greek vibe, with a large diorama of the Parthenon as you look to the back and up, when you walk through the door. The family friendliness also extended to celebrating guest birthdays with clapping and singing and a candle lit dessert. There were three birthdays celebrated last night, so it reflects that this is a favorite place to bring friends and have a feel good time! read more

My first visit in at least 25 years. I remember with great fondness my first visit and I decided to come back during the (hopefully) end of the pandemic for take-out! Calling in my order was super quick and easy and the staff was helpful to answer my questions. And when I arrived, food was ready as promised. Greek is my favorite type of food. I love it, I eat it in different locations and I know when it's good and when it's not. I used to live in Europe and know some great restaurants there. Yanni's is right up there! I'm a gyros kind of guy and one of my favorite dishes of any type is the true Greek Sald (Horiatiki salad -- no lettuce!!). First of all when I took my first bite of the gyro, a synapse fired off in my head... one of pleasure! There was a sweetness and tanginess to it that was really nice, and quite unique. Very tasty! I also got the starter of tzatziki with pita. It was exceptionally good. And I never thought I would say this, but it was just a little heavy on the garlic. That was the only even marginally negative thing I could say about the experience. Finally, the horiatiki salad was delicious. It's definitely my favorite salad: bell peppers, tomatoes, feta, red onions, kalamata olives and cucumbers. Yuuuuum! Gotta start with the fact that this place was on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares! Had no idea until I saw another Yelp review and my wife and I had to watch the episode (full episode on YouTube)! Really cool to see the renovations made to the dining room and modified menu! Okay, so you can see from the pics attached that we ordered an appetizer of the Spanakopita, chicken yannis, and lamb loin chops. I hope the pictures do the dish justice. Honestly, I had initial reservations about this place because the user-posted pictures don't look all that great and the portions looked kinda small. Not the case! The food was all really tasty and the portions were very generous! The spanakopita was really good, super fluffy and crispy filo pastry and the filling was not overwhelming. Really well balanced in flavor and texture. My wife had the lamb dish and I had a bite of the lamb. It was incredibly tender and cooked to a PERFECT medium/medium rare. They're like t-bone loin chops so it was a bit difficult to eat around the bone, but the flavor was on point. The green bean side and the rice pilaf sides were so-so. I had the chicken yannis. Really nicely seasoned and cooked. All of the dishes were heavy on the feta, but that's Greek seasoning. The fries were ok - would've been better with more salt and seasoning. Was debating between a 4 and a 5 star review but went with 4. Really solid food - would definitely come back when craving Mediterranean. The price was a bit expensive - a little over 60 for the 3 dishes we ordered. No complaints though! Always happy to support local restaurants and this is about as local as it gets! read more

I've been curious about this place since it was on Kitchen Nightmares so I ordered takeout from here online tonight. I got beef moussaka with rice pilaf ($21) and baklava ($6). When I showed up to the window, the lights were out in the dining area because they only do takeout so I was concerned for a moment that they were closed already. Karen (who was on the episode) didn't see me right away but after I got her attention she was friendly and got me my order right away. My order was ready right when it was supposed to be, so that's a definite plus. I got home about 15 minutes later and started eating. It was still hot so I knew that they must have finished making it shortly before I picked it up. The moussaka was pretty solid. Good flavor and texture, and not too greasy. It needed a tiny bit of salt but it was satisfying. The rice pilaf on the side though was super bland and kind of dry, so that was disappointing. It was just a side dish but I was expecting more. The baklava was delicious. Absolutely loved it. Sticky like a good baklava, had really tasty notes of cinnamon and had great texture to it. I won't dissuade anyone who's curious about this place. They've got some pretty good food and I experienced pretty decent service. But for the prices that they charge? I don't know. If it was a couple bucks cheaper for the moussaka/pilaf I'd probably be much happier. Overall I don't regret ordering there, and I might try it again sometime, just probably something on the cheaper side. read more

Wanted to try something different and Greek sounded good because I haven't had much of that before. In my research I thought I would try Yannis and I certainly was not disappointed! I wanted to make sure that I tried a couple of things so I got a chicken Shawarma and also a chicken hummus gyro. Both of them came in a gyro style wrap and both were very well portioned meals! I ordered the Shawarma with a Greek salad and the hummus style came with a garlic fries. The gyro bread was perfectly fluffy without being too fluffy or chewy. Both the meats were spiced perfectly and had a lot of flavor and I could tall without having to use a lot of salt. The Greek salad was more of a basic lettuce style salad with a delicious Greek dressing and the fries came very well seasoned with garlic and feta and spices. Each meal came to roughly $16 and well worth the price! I'm sure that the next time I go to Seattle I will stop in and try other foods too. Dined in on a Saturday night. The place was full, and we waited at least 30 minutes for a table. Our waiter was very friendly and charismatic; the highlight of our experience. After informing us that they were no longer serving the nightly specials menu we'd been given, he took the time to walk us through the menu and make recommendations similar to what we originally wanted off the specials. We really wish he would have told us the kitchen was backed up and recommended starting with an appetizer or salad, because we ended up waiting an hour after ordering for our two dinner plates. After having already waited for the table, and waiting to order, it took sure willpower to not eat our napkins before our food arrived. When we finally got our dinner, we ate it so fast that I honestly couldn't even tell you if it was good. The dining room was beautiful, and I loved that they had real candles lit at the tables instead of battery-operated ones, but next time we'll probably just call in a takeout order to skip the wait. read more

Yum yum yummmm! After scouring Yelp for a dine in option I finally found this place (dine in only on weekends during COVID otherwise take out only). Apparently it was featured on the Food Network too The interior is very inviting. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the design and color scheme. My favorite is the replica of the Parthenon above the cashier. The food was awesome. My personal favorite was the gyro wrap and spanakopita. The tzatziki dip is out of this world!! Lemon potatoes were good but I preferred the Greek fries or perhaps the rice pilaf. The cod dish was pretty good too! It had a nice tomato base and was tender. The lamb souvlaki was good but not as flavorful or tender as the gyro wrap and cod. Portions were plenty! The baklava ice cream reminded me of gingerbread ice cream. It's very good especially if you like cinnamon. We also tried the ouzo which if you haven't had it before is like licorice flavored vodka - pretty stiff! This review is based on the experience I had this evening picking up my food. The food has always been good at Yanni's which is why we've made it our go-to Greek place since we moved to the area. But we will go elsewhere after tonight as a matter of principle. We ordered over the phone and when I went to pick up the food more than an hour later, I waited for a server or hostess to acknowledge me. I waited for 5 minutes no more that 7 feet from 3 yannis employees, essentially right in front of them. 2 of the 3 appeared to be busy but no one acknowledged my presence for 5 minutes. All someone had to do was say: be with you in a minute but it was as if I were invisible to all 3 of them. Another customer came in after me and stood behind me waiting and yet when one of the employees decided to wait on someone, she chose to wait on the person behind me. I was so surprised I just kind of stared in amazement as she processed his order. When done, she asked me if she could help me and I told her yes but that she had skipped over me to help the next person and that I'd been waiting 5 min. She gave me a sarcastic I'm sorry, a head shake and eye roll as though I'd done something wrong and processed my order. There are lots of Greek places to go in north Seattle and yannis' food, while good, is not worth dealing with service like that even once. read more

The loin lambchops were tough and over-cooked, but flavorful, again lacking salt. No salt was on the table. The absence of salt means everything lacked flavor that could be developed by adding it while cooking. The lack of flavor was disappointing, given the excellent service, comfortable if basic wooden chairs, pleasant decor, and freshness of the food. I've ordered several times now at Yanni's and always end up salivating over the smell and so satisfied with the taste. If you need a go to for a quick and easy picnic/appetizer bring-along, I would absolutely suggest the Mezedes Platter Orektika. What a deal at $20!
