I love Mr Gyros for so many reasons. The owners Sammy & Johnny are so passionate about running a great place, and have so much genuine warmth for their customers, a value they've instilled in all their employees. The food is delicious and there's a wide variety of options including many vegetarian ones. There's also now a lovely covered deck with space heaters which can be enjoyed year round. When the business burned down awhile back due to an electrical fire I was so sad and couldn't be more delighted that they were able to rebuild in Greenwood. read more

Gave it to me in the ORIGINAL grocery store packaging like I'm some kind of handout. GROSS! Original review: There's two dedicated spots for the restaurant right in front on busy Phinney Ave so that was nice but other than that, not impressed. Got take out on a Friday night around 5 pm and we were the only ones there. We ordered the lamb gyro and the chicken shawarma salad. I didn't have the lamb but was informed that it was not very flavorful or good. My chicken shawarma was well seasoned but had a bad chicken smell to it, like it was uncleaned. Also the workers were extremely sloppy and haphazardly gave me two pitas that were leftovers in the packaging (see in attached photos). That was the final nail on the coffin because who is that lazy and left me with so many questions about the quality of their food. It's not great from a food safety or presentation standpoint as the bag was already opened and I don't know how long they've had it/ who's handled it. So glad we finally got to try the food here!!! And hands down Mr Gyros gets a 5/5 for service, atmosphere, and of course the taste and presentation of the food! This cafe resto is super cozy and gives off Mediterranean vibes. I love that there was some Arabic music softly playing in the background. Everything is in the details. Being middle eastern, I'm always on the lookout for authentic flavors that remind me of home, and Mr. Gyros definitely hit the spot for me. Honestly what a great menu! From the halloumi zaatar sandwich, to the cauliflower, pistachio French toast with rose water, iced tea...Everything tasted so good. The gyro was sooo flavorful and tender. Loved it!! The plate portions are generous and filling. I love that you get a bit of everything on the plate too (hummus/mutabal , greek salad, meat/chicken, rice, tzatziki sauce, pita bread). How I heard of this place: More than a decade ago, we moved to the neighborhood, where Mr. Gyros was a community staple. Months later, while sleeping, we heard - and felt - a huge explosion. Before we could make Mr. Gyros a neighborhood favorite, it was gone. Here we are, ten years later, and their newest cafe-restaurant is back. Type of cuisine: Mediterranean fare in a cozy, quaint, Mediterranean inspired setting. Ambiance: A sweet space tucked away for really only locals to walk up to (only one or two parking spots are available at the establishment, others needing to find street parking (or paid off-street parking around the block) blocks away, fighting for one of few spaces not already taken by residents). The walled-in patio greets patrons with its stone and patio umbrellas, cute and truly niche in this neighborhood eatery. Inside the rounded archway, one finds the kitchen, a seat or two at small tables, looking more decorative than functional, among the beautifully curated walls of plants and minimalist Mediterranean setting. Music blasts - making it loud (maybe too loud?) for residential neighbors, and adds to the sweetness of the cozy setting. What I ordered: We placed our orders at the tall walk-up counter, then found a covered table in the outdoor patio where we could enjoy the waning warmth of the setting sun at dinnertime. In our small party, we enjoyed the Greek Fries ($4.09), Cauliflower tahini salad ($7.99), Chicken Tawook "kabob" ($11.39) and Chicken Shawarma ($17.39), as well as an order of Baklava to round out our meals. What I loved: I loved the flavorful, well seasoned/marinated chicken. The salad was crisp and the hummus creamy. We especially enjoyed the crispy-soft fries with Greek seasoning atop. Years after the original greenwood location was lost to a fire, Mr. Gyros has triumphantly returned! In the intervening time, I've become very fond of their food truck, so I was excited to learn that they'd be returning a brick and mortar restaurant in greenwood (they also have one in Ballard). The owners are really nice and I'm so happy that they were able to fulfill their dreams of rebuilding. The new shop looks amazing. The inside looks fresh and modern; sometime put a lot of thought into the design and decoration. There is also a covered outdoor seating area. Because the restaurant faces away from Greenwood ave, it feels more quiet and peaceful than it would otherwise. This Mr Gyros is a neighborhood treasure. It is the perfect place for a hungry weekend brunch on a lovely shaded patio. Sammy, the owner, manager and kitchen maestro, warmly welcomed me like an honored guest to his home. The lamb/beef gyro was perfect; lively with bright tzatziki sauce and lemony hummus; wrapped in a warm soft/ lightly charred pita; bursting with crisp cucumber and lettuce and luscious red-ripe tomatoes. This is real gyro; not the fast food, salty-desiccated jerky and wet, under-ripe vegetables that so often claims the name. Here, everything was zesty and clean; filling, satisfying, and light. The meal chased away my mental cobwebs and the warmth of the lovely staff had me ready to face the day with a smile. Sitting on the patio, chatting with neighbors and new acquaintances reminded me of my days in beautiful Beirut in better times. I had to go back for lunch to treat my family with gorgeous falafel sandwiches, chicken gyros, and savory lentil soup. It smelled so good that I stole bites and sips of the delicious stuff at every red light; and enjoyed my hero's (gyros?) welcome from my health obsessed (thankfully) mostly vegetarian daughter and the their friends. Don't miss the lentil soup. Don't let the word vegetable scare you. This soup shows what vegetables can be when well-treated. With both meals, I had the baklava and Arabic coffee. The coffee is the real-deal- elevating and rich. The baklava is made in -house, don't miss it. It has the real, nutty sweetness of pistachios and lightness of crackly layers of light dough, it is not cloyingly sweet, overly-dense, or sticky. The best thing if all is the staff. The staff embody Sammy's hospitality, kindness, and attention to detail. From the carefully crushed fresh mint in the tea to the layer of thick coffee at the bottom of the cup, the staff show they care. The restaurant is sparkling clean, warm, comfortable, and inviting. Don't be dissuaded if there is a little wait at the door or the register; or if you must park 1/2 a block or so away. My partner and I have been loyal Mr. Gyros fans for years, but our experience last night was both disappointing and confusing. We planned to treat ourselves to a Friday night go-to: a shared shawarma plate to-go. At around 7:45pm, we tried calling several times to place the takeout order, but no one answered. Since we live nearby, we figured we'd just walk down and order in person. When we arrived, the kitchen was clearly open and active, but we were flatly told that they were 'closed' for the night. When we asked for clarification, the staff member explained that they were only fulfilling DoorDash orders. Their website and posted hours still list the Greenwood Mr. Gyros as open Monday through Saturday until 9pm. It's a bummer to see a local favorite pivot away from walk-in takeout for the neighborhood that supports them, especially an hour and fifteen minutes before their posted closing time. We'd love to see more clarity on their hours or service tiers, as we'd rather support the business directly than through a third-party app. read more

Mr Gyros is located on Phinney Ave and it can be difficult to find parking as you're fighting for parking amongst numerous apartment complexes. The restaurant is in a relatively small place with a handful of tables in the outdoor patio and a few inside where it can get cramped. Everything looks new and service is great - staff are super friendly. I will note that their brunch items which are available everyday end at 11am (at least for weekdays) which isn't what's on the website or menu board. Overall the plates are good. The gyro were thick and some pieces crispy while the beef kabob had good flavor and pieces of onion inside. The pita bread is really thing which I haven't seen before. We began eating at Mr gyro's so long ago I've lost track. They only had one little restaurant on Greenwood which has since blew up in a gas leak. The two brothers are so personable that part of the enjoyment of going there was chatting with them. Now they have at least 3 places and rarely do you see them. Usually they have Mexican help which is fine but something has been lost. My wife and I went to their newest place in Greenwood Saturday evening. It has a small but bright interior. Quite pleasant. I was out of town during the 2016 infamous gas explosion, saw the pictures on national news, and wondered how the businesses would ever recover. Luckily this place opened a new location (no longer 85th/Greenwood, it's one street east). Mr. Gyros takes the care needed to make consistently mouth watering chicken shawarma, perfect pita and the best baklava in town. I'm so glad this place is back. The Greenwood location was special to me, and now it's back and better. If you're in this for gyros, my review is simple: I've been going to one Mr Gyros or another for 16 years and they're all great. 5/5, easy as that. (If you're indecisive, I suggest the chicken shawarma.) But this location has brunch. And french toast. And I love french toast. Of course I had to try it before reviewing. And great news, french toast fans: It was sublime. The zaatar halloumi toast was also superb if you're looking for something less sweet - and I have no doubt that the rest of the menu is equally excellent. This might sound familiar, but 5/5, easy as that. Every now and then you can find a place where the food is good, and the people are great, and when those combine you get a place that's something special. Mr. Gyros is it. (A couple mundane notes: Parking is difficult on Phinney, especially in rush hour. Park a street or two over if you want to be safe, but there are a couple of reserved spots in front, you might get lucky. Best mediterranean french toast ever! My boyfriend had the chicken shawarma plate and said it was very flavorful. After weeks of procrastinating, finally I had lunch at Mr. Gyros in Greenwood. Had I known the flavor and quality will be this good, I would have visited much sooner. I typically don't write reviews, but with the amazing lunch, I have to share my experience. I ordered the combination shawarmah platter and it was out of this world. The spices reminded me of the shawarmah I'm used to in Lebanon. It's the flavor that you'll remember for the rest of your life. With the shawarmah I had an amazing fava beans (foul mdamas) dish which I highly recommend. Make sure to leave room for the Maamoul desert which is amazing. This little authentic restaurant will definitely be one of my favorites and will visit frequently. read more
