Yao's was so needed in Oviedo! The menu is full of unique options, and the interior is beautiful. The staff is so kind, and I appreciated it so much that they were able to change the sauce on the fried tofu so it would be vegetarian for me. We ordered the Shanghai Salad, Fried Green Beans, Fried Tofu (with Sweet & Sour Sauce instead of General Yao's), Chinese Eggplant Claypot, and Honey Orange Chicken. We loved everything, but I especially loved the Chinese Eggplant Claypot. My husband raved about the Honey Orange Chicken. I need to come back to try some of their cocktails! I am so happy that Oviedo has a spot like this, and I can't wait to return. read more

Stopped by Yao's for an early dinner and sampled several items from both the happy hour and regular menus. From the happy hour selections, the Shanghai Sticky Ribs (3 for $10) were the clear standout -- tender, flavorful, and nicely glazed. The Yao's Fried Chicken Wings (4 for $6) were another great value, crispy and well-seasoned, while the Charred Edamame ($5) made for a solid starter with a pleasant smoky touch. For mains, we ordered General Yao's Chicken ($17), Three Pigs Fried Rice ($16), and the Chicken Lo Mein ($18). Overall, the dishes were good with a few notable highlights. The General Yao's Chicken came with white rice and featured a unique presentation -- the chicken resembled small fried donuts with far less sauce than the traditional version I'm accustomed to. That said, the chicken itself was cooked perfectly and consisted entirely of tender white breast meat. The Three Pigs Fried Rice was satisfying and packed with different preparations of pork, including char siu. Adding house chili oil and soy sauce elevated the dish and really pushed it over the top flavor-wise. The Chicken Lo Mein had nice flavor, though the noodles were slightly wetter than my preference and carried a bit of an oily texture. Service throughout the meal was attentive, and our server offered solid recommendations. We sat in a booth at my daughter's request, but on our next visit I'll likely opt for the inviting bar area, which looks like a great spot to dine. This place is located next to Arcade Monsters and from what the server said, has been open about a year and half. It is very quiet during lunch time so it was actually the perfect place to catch up with a colleague. I like their lunch menu where you can build a bowl. They also have lunch boxes. The portions are decent! I ate my stir fry chicken and vegetables with a lo mein base for like three days and it was really tasty! I also ordered the fried green beans and they were okay, but the aioli sauce that comes with it is amazing. The pork was quite tasty as well. I think I'd like to try and come here for dinner. From what I understand the ambiance is nice and I like all the small plate options, as I like to share food. I am overdue for writing a review for Yaos! This has become our go to Chinese restaurant for an upscale meal in the Oviedo area. They are on point with their food, drinks, and service. They have a lovely atmosphere inside with seating for small or large groups. The bar is a nice option too for a date night or grabbing a quick drink before meeting friends. Their food is absolutely wonderful. I have tried most of the things on their menu and they have all been delicious. One of my favorite dishes is the braised pork clay pot. It has some of the best braised pork I've ever had and it comes with white rice. I also really like the sticky ribs. They're huge and very tender. As an appetizer, I love the chili wontons and wok fire green beans. I wish the pieces of chicken in the orange chicken were a bit smaller (personal preference) but the meat is tender and flavorful. They have some great noodle and rice dishes as well, especially the pig fried rice. They have a happy hour on weekday with a small variety of wine, beer, and cocktails. They have a Malbec that is only $5 for happy hour and still reasonable at normal price. Service has been great on our visits. My family loves coming here. No kids menu that I know of but there is a changing table in the restroom and high chairs! My son is at an age where he tries almost any new food and likes quite a few things on the menu! Overall the lighting in the restaurant provided an intimate experience for all the guests and the servers were very kind and friendly. The Tuna crudo was one of my favorite small plates because the cilantro sauce it was paired with was such a nice touch. Their fried rice and noodles were cooked to perfection and very flavorful as well. You can never go wrong with a crab Rangoon anywhere and they did it very nicely here where there wasn't an overload of filling in the crust. I love how many different options that their menu offers because it makes it very hard to get bored with the choices and gives you a reason to return to try items you didn't get to the last time. Pros: They participated in Bite 30 this past summer. I love that, because it supports our city. Ambiance was very nice. It felt like a fancy grand hall. Tall ceilings and cozy booths. Food was delicious. Definitely better than typical Chinese takeout, and I would say even better than like a PF Chang's. Very good. Cons: Service was sooo slow. It wasn't even that busy, but the servers seemed to be an owner or manager or something, so maybe they're just understaffed. Tips: Get the sticky ribs, for the love the God. Came to Yao's for the Bite 30 event they were participating in. I love restaurants that participate in Orlando events, and I will support them the best I can. I had pretty low expectations of this place, because Oviedo is a magnet for subpar chains, but no, I was thoroughly, pleasantly surprised. Ambiance inside is absolutely beautiful. A nice bar, a peek into the kitchen, and just a really elegant dining room. The booths were very cozy. I was very comfy in my visit. Service was pretty good. Our server was nice enough. Kind of absent at key moments where we needed refill. And the food really took forever. But hey, it can't be easy to run a restaurant efficiently. It didn't affect my visit. As for the food, there were the three courses, of course. Apps Shanghai Sticky Ribs (St. Louis pork ribs, sweet chili soy, fried garlic, fried shallots). Insanely good. Not to spoil things, but these were the best bite of the night for me. So sticky, and with the fried garlic and shallots on top adding a crunch and a garlicky, oniony smack of flavor, dear Lord. I could live off these. D's Dumplings (seasonal filling). These were also great. One side of the dumpling was soft like it was steamed, and the other side was pan fried to perfection. So many good textures. I'm not sure what the filling was, but the dipping sauce was good. I love a good, sharable app like this. Mains Three Pigs Fried Rice (char siu pork, chinese sausage, bacon, egg, local corn, scallions). Very good. Usually, it's hard to differentiate the different porks in dishes like this, but no, everything was there and obvious. A huge portion. These mains are very sharable, family style. All the pork fats made this very unctuous. Lovely. General Yao's Chicken (tempura). This chicken was tempura fried, leaving a lovely, delicate, ultra crunchy coating. And the General Yao sauce, whatever that is, was really delicious. Just a hint of a kick to it. Delicious. And served with white rice, like all dishes in the world should be. Desserts Black Sesame Soft Serve (toasted black sesame, brown sugar crumble). Very unique! I love the little earthy tone that sesame adds to desserts. Makes it very cravable, not too sweet. The sweetness from the crumble on top makes it a great dessert. Matcha Panna Cotta (orange granita, lime, mints). This was a like palate cleanser type thing. Muted matcha panna cotta, a lovely flavor, with a bright zing from the orange granita, a hint of lime zest. A refreshing way to end a heavy meal. Overall, Yao's isn't just a good-for-Oviedo restaurant. It's a good restaurant. Some really unique flavors and textures. I am really excited for when I can come back. read more

Above all the staff went above and beyond service by providing a friendly environment for us. We were a group of individuals and I would say that the service was impeccable. The ambience is quiet and relaxing, and there was plenty of parking out front. The servers even came back with a plate that they felt needed to be replaced because the quality wasn't up to their standards. We thought it was fine. Happy hour with my fellow yelper at Yao's.. what else can you ask for. The food was great, the company even better. My friend and I tried so many dishes, it is hard to pick a favorite. To start I ordered the firecracker shrimp. It was delicious and not too spicy but it had a kick to it. We both loved it. We then tried the chili wontons- OMG I can't describe how succulent and tasty they were. The chili oil was a bonus to this dish. The egg rolls were our third appetizer and they were really good. We shared all of our appetizers and highly recommend you do this so that you can try different dishes. Overall 10/10. No complaints. We went at an odd hour and did opentable reservation. Really would recommend that. Sticky ribs, good as expected, tho the roasted garlic on top was too much for me, easily brushed off. Baos, light as a cloud and interesting grilled taste. Three pigs rice, wonderful. Orange chicken even more wonderful. Those two won the day for us. Four dishes and it was just $60-something plus we still have literally a 2 person meal in leftovers. I will say it does get super loud once the place starts to fill up. Maybe it's the tile walls. Grabbed yao's for takeout on my way home. The inside looks nice, and my order was very quickly handed to me. Overall, I found the chicken to have a very satisfying texture, however I wish there was more sauce, even if it was also on the side. Upon walking into Yao's to celebrate my husband's birthday - June 29th - I was immediately floored. This place is so open. It's beautiful. Incredibly clean. Staff immediately greeted us. They already had our table set up and ready for us (I had made reservations online). We had a group of 5 adults and 2 kids. Our service was incredibly attentive. We had two people with allergens. The waitress took her time to understand the allergens and ensure our two allergy people would be safe. We all ordered our own stuff but ended up sharing. I would not call the small plates, small plate! The portions were wonderful! We ordered the battered green beans, chili wontons, the wings with takeout seasoning, and the three pigs. Oh my goodness! I wasn't huge on the takeout seasoning but the wings themselves were amazing! I am OBSESSED with the chili wontons! I could eat an order or two alone. We ordered two drinks - the Shaolin and the way of the fist. They were both incredibly juice heavy - I truly couldn't taste the alcohol at all. I wouldn't order alcoholic drinks again. So you pull into a strip mall next to a Publix and here's this unassuming restuarant but oh man! Im fairly certain its the best Chinese food I've ever had. My wife still thinks Mott 32 in Vegas is 1 notch above, followed by Yaos but I disagree. Yoas by a head and shoulders. The food was phenomenal, terrific service. We had the charred edamame, crab rangoon, truffle mushroom fried rice, general yaos chicken and the Shanghai sticky ribs. The ribs alone would bring me back. After a few days of salivating over the menu, I finally made it in with a few friends for dinner. Happy to report, everything is just as tasty as it looks online! We tried: Shanghai Sticky Ribs ($15), Truffle Scallion Noodles ($12), Shanghai Salad ($9), Three Pigs Fried Rice ($16), Yao's Baos ($9). The salad is what initially caught my attention, and whilst it is a worthy salad, healthy and citrusy, it doesn't hold a candle to the other items. The biggest surprise was the Truffle Noodles. Sweet and umami, we ended up saving the sauce left in the dish to top the rice later on. I will say, it was much smaller than anticipated, so plan accordingly. Three Pigs Rice was fantastic, a delicious take on pork fried rice that I would definitely order again. Yao's Baos were saucy and acidic, really tasty. Loved the pickled cukes on there. There were 4 of us so we split each in two and it ended up being a perfect bite for each. The star of the show for me was easily the Shanghai Sticky Ribs. Perfect glazed, crunchy exterior with a tender interior. My ideal rib and something I'll definitely be coming back for. The service was exceptional as well. Starting to go out for lunch during the week amd this lovely place popped up on the search. Great inviting decor and great customer service. The food was delicious! Went to lunch with a colleague and this place was a pleasant surprise. There are dood menu choices, a tapas menu, a selection of hot teas . .. jasmine, oolong and green tea. The presentation of the food was very inviting. There is also a good selection of lunch menu choices such as tofu, chicken, shrimp, sticky ribs and crab. We ordered firecracker shrimp and General Tso's. The food was presented in a large bento box with a fresh salad work delicately sliced radishes, spring rolls, fried rice, our entree and a fortune cookie. The firecravker shrimp were huge not too spicy had a fanstastic crispy batter and was served hot. My colleague enjoyed the chicken that was also a huge portion. The portions was too much to eat so we both had take out. Enjoyed this meal amd we are looking forward to returning to check more of the menu such as the ribs, the Shanghai salad and some interesting gong gong egg rolls made with curry chicken. After 2 visits to Yao's, I'm going with 3 stars. The first visit wasn't that great and we ended up with some free drink coupons. Some dishes are excellent and some are downright terrible. Most of the fried items are way too greasy. You'll be saying "Yao-za" as you're downing handfuls of Tums later. The bar choices are pretty basic, which makes the cocktails affordable, but also lacking quality. We're talking Suntory, Smirnoff, Tangueray, Tito's and Captain Morgan. Am I at an elevated Asian Restaurant or Señor Frogs? It just didn't match what they're trying to do. For the free drinks, I went for the ones with Don Julio at least. But up your spirit quality. The big disappointment on the first visit was the eggplant dish. It was small pieces of eggplant, way over-breaded and served to the point where the eggplant just kind of disappeared into the breading. The three pigs fried rice was good as were the chili wontons (but we've had better). The fried green beans were good but super greasy. The biggest standout though... Sticky Ribs! Wow, these were done right. Also good was the Szechuan Chicken special (described as their version of Nashville Hot Chicken). Both of these were on the 2nd visit, but not enough to entice us to want to come back (especially since one wasn't a permanent menu item.) Desserts were also lacking. The Black Sesame Soft Serve was disappointing. Like a flavorless cookies and cream. And the Green Tea Tiramisu lacked a flavor punch as well. If I'm driving to Oveido for a nice dinner, I'm heading to Sushi Pop which has been getting it right every single time. I wish Yao's the best, but it's a two and done! read more

I thought it was odd because it was almost like we were in each other's conversations. Other than that the experience was good. There was a wide variety of food. Oviedo-We originally reserved a table for lunch, but a gentleman called and said they'd be closed so we switched to 4 o'clock on New Year's Eve. The restaurant had only another few tables when we arrived. I was really excited to try this place because of all the hype. Unfortunately the hype is wrong. We ordered several items, including cocktails. My passion fruit margarita was quite tasty. My friend's lychee cocktail was very sour, and my hubs "Hero" bourbon drink was so awful he left it on the table...totally surprised that the waiter didn't even ask why the drink was not consumed. The Three Pigs fried rice was not fresh. It was undercooked, hard, and chewy. I assume it had been from a day or two ago. Definitely not cooked fresh. Also, way too salty. The dumplings were tasty and had a great dipping sauce. Honey chicken was bland, but the breading was awesome. I hate a foamy/fluffy coating on my chicken and this was thin and crunchy. Parmesan Crab udon was very fishy. My GF liked it, but I couldn't eat it. Our Sticky ribs were pretty tasty, but tough and chewy. Still a good flavor, so that was a plus! Now to the head scratcher...XO Shrimp served with shells & "sort of" head on. Why oh why would you serve this delicious, very saucy dish and make us dig/pry/pick the shells off?? It was a mess. Fortunately the amazingly delicious sauce made up for the mess. Overall, we agreed that this is probably not going to become a go-to place for us.
