I wanna like these restaurants in Sanford. I hadn't tried this one. I finally did. I had some company down from Kansas City. He got a hamburger. I got some kind of little protein bowl that had sweet plantains rice a little bit of beans and a couple other things and my daughter got French toast. I don't know what what about it and my little bowl with the various foods it looked really nice had absolutely no flavor. That's why I wanted to get some ketchup. I got some hot sauce which they said they made in the house that took quite a few minutes also and it was brought in NyQuil cup also, I don't really get the whole bringing the condiments a little tiny cups like it's caviar, I don't understand. I felt like I was getting off of a shift. I was really glad to be out of there. There was a Latin family that they were kind of loud and partying which was fine, but it was somebody's birthday. They sang happy birthday in English in Spanish and it was pretty loud and then they did it again so we heard it four times for the same family I'm not sure. Maybe they were royalty from some Latin American country. And that restaurant before the flower took it over. It was really beautiful and historic and kind of fit the historic theme downtown. Granted, we sat at the bar and got one drink each before the dinner rush was in. The only reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the small portion sizes. The drinks were quite expensive for how little beverage was to be had in the little glasses. Ik restaurants like to say it's all the same, but definitely felt like they priced us out of buying another drink due to the small serving. Onto the drinks, I really enjoyed the Crush Crush. I'm a big cosmo girly and this was spectacular for being used to tasting the vodka in a martini drink. I was very happy with the flavor and enjoyment I got from it. My boyfriend got the margarita and he enjoyed it, but also was a bit disappointed with the portion. I still recommend this restaurant if you're wanting to have a swanky cocktail outing, but maybe have a few other places lined up and don't depend on spending your day/night here. To celebrate my friend's birthday, I asked her to pick any place she wanted to go for dinner and she chose The Wildflower in downtown Sanford. Our server heard that we were celebrating my friend's birthday and offered her a free dessert. My friend was unable to take him up on the offer due to her food allergies, so he gave us a discount on our bill. Really liked this restaurant. We were sat quickly and got our waters immediately when we sat down. Plenty of tables inside and they were all spaced well so it didn't feel cramped. More people came in and it got pretty busy by the time we got our food. There was only 1 waiter so service became pretty slow when we asked for additional items needed for our meal. The drink I got was delicious and mixed very well. The wings were pretty small and didn't have enough of a guava flavor to me. The burger was really good and the patty was thick which made it very filling. I was also able to try the Ropa vieja meal and it was juicy and flavorful. My friends and I were in Downtown Sanford looking for a nice bar in the area and came across The wildflower. The bar is really cute and big. We were greeted by the waitress as soon as we got in the restaurant. We were there a little before they closed so the kitchen was already closed and we weren't able to get any plates but we ordered drinks. All the drinks were delicious. Sadly, a few minutes after they gave us the drinks, they turned the lights on and the music off. Downtown Sanford had a decent amount of public parking at night and the area was popping we left at 11:30pm and things were just getting started. Was handed water in a glass rimmed with lipstick stains, I only noticed when I was halfway done. I went to open my silverware for my meal & it was also dirty. I will say that we enjoyed the ambiance and stylish setting. It was a very comfortable place to chat. We also enjoyed the drinks we ordered but found them to be more ice than drink. As far as food goes, we tried a variety. Nothing stood out except the prices. The ceviche was the biggest letdown. The flavor was alright but the shrimp weren't even chopped. Between that and the teeny tiny plantain chips it was quite awkward to eat. That combined with the fact that the plantain chips became very soggy very quickly due to the plating style-see pic. The shrimp tostones was the plate I was most excited about and lacked overall flavor. The grouper sandwich was good, not super memorable but pleasant enough. For the price though, would have been nice had it been served with some fries or chips. However, the grouper was the redeeming aspect of the meal. Ultimately finished off with French toast to share around the table. Another solid plate but there's nothing extraordinary about French toast. Nice service. My experience here could've been a lot better, if the employees had actually tried. As soon as we walked in, nobody was there to greet us, after making eye contact with the bartender and wandering for a few minutes, I walked to the bar and asked if we sit ourselves or wait. He said to sit. There were only two other tables there. I saw on the menu that they had a shrimp ceviche and I immediately knew that's what I wanted. I ordered it but five minutes later our server came and said they don't make that. I was confused cause it's on the menu I even showed it to her and she was confused as well. After a few minutes she said they would make it for me, like if they were making an exception. Fine. We proceeded to wait 30 more minutes for our food, at this point I'm ready to leave because the only two other tables already had their food. The ceviche was really good, it's the reason I gave this place 3 stars. The wings were terrible. They tasted old and like they had been sitting in the fridge for a while. They were hard to eat. The server never came back so I had to get up and flag her down (only two tables dining in at this point) so that I could pay. The place is beautiful, but it's gonna take more than that for them to establish returning customers. The whole experience just felt so ingenuine, like they didn't try to give a good experience at all. When I attempted to confirm the day before, the phone number from yelp AND their website went to a line where vm hasn't been set up. Seems odd for a business to have a phone line with no announcement or ability to leave a message. Checked the number again. I had the correct number but still no answer. Assuming "it will be fine" wasn't the correct choice! Arrived at our scheduled time and the restaurant was closed! This place is beautiful inside. We loved the atmosphere. Our server was good, she was friendly and came by the table a good amount to check on us. The drinks were really good as well, I had the El diablo and would definitely get it again. The ginger beer and tequila and lime really complimented eachother. The mojo pork bites were delicious crunchy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. The teqeunos are delicious with an amazing guava dip. Chris is a "goat" bartender, probably one of the best expresso martinis and French 75s I have had in a LONGGGG time. He recommended some very tasty hot plates, but u honestly can't go wrong with any of their menu items. The Brussels are amazing.
