We worked with Lindsay, and she was extremely knowledgeable, and skilled at reading our dog's behavior and needs. The training methods used are positive, and gentle. She provided us various training techniques and included videos for us to watch and reading material during the week. She provided great recommendations on dog products, enrichment ideas, and toys. It's clear that she understands canine psychology and tailor each session to meet the individual needs of our dog. In just a few sessions, we noticed huge improvements in our dog's behavior and obedience! The training environment was always welcoming and supportive, and we appreciated the ongoing tips and resources provided to reinforce what we learned at home. She would reach out during the week and made herself available between training sessions for any questions or issues we were working through. Odds are if you're on Yelp looking for reviews of pet sitters, you'd probably like how Lori handles client communication. Before I went out of town, I googled "Pet sitting Richardson" and she came up. I contacted her through her e-mail on the site and got a response the next morning. I submitted a few forms online (pet names, meds, vet, etc.), sent her my address, and she shows up. My point is that we didn't play phone tag for days. If you're trying to leave town, spending all day on the phone doesn't work, but Lori is great about arranging everything online. Oh yeah, this is supposed to be about her pet sitting. Before I leave she comes over and introduces herself . . . to my cats. I thought that was funny. She hangs out for a few minutes, figures out where everything is, learns a little bit about each cat, takes a key and agrees to come by when I'm gone. That's pretty much all there is to it. While I'm gone she e-mails me updates about each visit. Pet sitting for cats is rather straight-forward: "Cleaned litter box. Filled bowl. Petted them when they walked by. Then they slept again." But I think updates would be relevant for someone with elderly pets who needed meds, or for pets who needed keep vet appointments. I can see where daily updates on a high-maintenance dog would be important. FWIW, she has a huge SUV, so if she had to take you 200lb Mastif to the vet, she could. When I got back, cats were still alive, had full food bowls and clean litter. So, she covered all three elements of cat sitting. She left the key under the mat (which I suggested) and a few days later she e-mailed me a reasonable bill with the price she quoted. I now know all I need to do is e-mail her the dates I'm gone and ask her to come by Day 1, 2, 3, etc and my cats will be taken care of as well as if I were at home.

I was referred to Boykin by a friend of mine and am really glad to know of Carol and the Kennel. The kennel is located in the woods with lots of running room, which is great for my girl. Carol is very good with the dogs, in taking care of them and in training them properly. Very convenient having someone watch my girl that is good with dogs and keeps them obedient too. Carol, checks on my girl every now and then to see how she is doing and if there is any guidance that she can assist with. I am glad to know about Carol and this kennel and tell all my friends and family that are needing a sitter.

I thought for $237.50 an hour, they could try harder to make a better impression and earn my business, but they preferred to refund me which was also fine. Never got to find out how effective they would have been training my dog, but I was not encouraged or impressed by this first time experience.

This is an updated review, as Pawhootz was operating as "Animal America" on my previous review, and…read more(I think) was under different ownership or management. I have a different dog now - a Maltese puppy named Maxwell - who is just over a year old. I started bringing him for Day Camp in the first quarter of 2024. He was very timid and unsure of what to do, but the excellent "camp counselors" at Pawhootz were so patient in doing their evaluations and making sure he felt safe and secure. Now, he acts like he owns the place! When I ask him if he wants to "go play," he goes berserk! And as soon as we pull into the driveway, chaos (the good kind) ensues. He has a little BFF that attends regularly, as well. When I pick him up at the end of the day, he is happily exhaunted. I confess that I balked a bit at the price and having to pay all at once at the beginning of each month; however, Maxwell attends day camp three times per week - when I can't work from home and must be in Dallas all day, I have real peace of mind knowing that he is well taken care of. Also, I love peeking in on the Webcam to see him playing with his buddies - it's the best part of my day! The management at Pawhootz is excellent - they are very responsive to questions and concerns, and they actually listen! You can tell that they have a heart for animals, and they treat them as if they were their own. We have been learning about boarding during the holidays. I was confident that he was safe and well cared for during the holidays. And they are working with me to find ways to alleviate his anxiety - puppies get anxious sometimes when we're away for longer than they are used to! We have not had a full groom here yet, but Maxwell got a luxurious bath and blueberry facial recently! They did a lovely job of brushing and cleaning him up - he was a happy peppy puppy when they brought him out to me. In summary, I highly recommend Pawhootz as a reliable, safe, secure, and trustworthy place to board fur babies. Between the creative enrichment activities and the amazing employees, they are a fun place for a few hours or a few days.

It honestly looks like whoever groomed him either doesn't know how to cut dog hair or simply didn't care. Some areas look hacked with random layers, while other spots weren't cut at all. It looks less like a professional groom and more like it was done with dull paper scissors. To make matters worse, she dropped her dog off at 7:00am and didn't hear anything until 3:00pm and that was only because she had to call and check if he was ready. I understand they may have been busy or backed up due to reschedules from the ice storm, but that's not an excuse to deliver such poor-quality work. People are paying with their hard-earned money and deserve proper care and a basic level of professionalism especially when it comes to their fur baby. This experience was frustrating and unacceptable, and won't be returning.
