The best venue for jazz in Canada! Great international and local acts multiple nights a week, with simple but enjoyable snacks and drinks.

The food here is so good you will honestly get a food boner…read more I had the brisket with risotto and it was absolutely amazing. Also had some German beer, a coffee, and chocolate mousse. Everything is amazing. Just as a heads up, though - be prepared to pay for this excellent food. Between my friend and I the bill for the both of us was $148 plus tip. It's not cheap but if you're prepared to pay It's totally worth it.

Came here for Classical Guitar night. No admission fee so it was a "tip-at-the-end-of-your-meal" in an envelope. So bring cash! Or the waitress can charge your credit card but she will ask you to tell her the extract amount you wish to tip which makes me uncomfortable. I got the Veggie Burger $21.95 with side of bean and corn soup (their main soup). Soup was better than expected if you like beans. Tastes as you would expect. Burger - bottom bun was quite soggy, slaw was very nice. Patty was more mush and just squishes out of the bun. Decent flavor but would have liked it crisper and more solid. They provide Mango Habanero hot sauce which is really cool. Friend got the Bison Burger on Gluten-free bread. She was happy with her burger. I thought it looked funny on a slice of bread instead of a bun. She loved the salad too. My friend tried the grapefruit gelato and said it was fine. I got the Peach Bourbon pie advertised on the "today special" board. Good pie. Good solid crust, peaches inside were tasty, weird jelly filling but wasn't so bad. Not too sweet. Nice ice cream but very small portion. Kicker was the price. $14.50!!! To me that is ridiculous as I can but a WHOLE homemade pie from the farmers market for $25 and this was At Most a quarter of a pie. DISAPPOINTED. Overall Lovely spot to watch a live show, decent food if not overpriced.

I've been to two shows here over the years - one just before Covid and one more recently. I see…read moreother reviews talking about a $5.00 membership, but they must have gotten rid of that because I've never been asked to pay for a membership. The venue is old and full of character for sure, but it is not accessible at all if you have any kind of mobility issues. And it's a shame, because the management does seem to WANT to be inclusive, but they are terribly limited by the physical location. It's true that you walk down a dingy and dank outdoor hallway to get to the entrance, and then walk up a whole bunch of stairs to get to the ID checking station. Then you go in and get to the ticket scanning station. Maybe she was having a bad day, but the attitude from her was really off-putting. When you have a mobile ticket, apparently they can't scan the QR Code if you have your phone in dark-mode. I've never had that issue with any other venue accepting my mobile tickets, but maybe their scanner is different. Anyway, she was really annoyed with me for that. Once inside, there were 3 bars open and the bartenders were all super friendly. We went back to the same bartender each time and she always remembered our orders. As others have said, the washrooms are down a flight of stairs. If you choose to leave while there are still people lined up to get in, you will have to squeeze past them in that same dank alley/hallway thing you came in - There are no other exits (though I'm sure you could use the other doors in the event of an emergency). The slanted dance floor is not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it adds to the quirky character of the old building. I thought the sound quality from the performers were great for both shows I saw and the lighting was excellent as well.

Bar gets very crowded with spectators leaning against it. You are not allowed to exit at East doors by stage, so this means a lot of in and out traffic at the ticket gate. People just need to learn some manners. It's $10.00 to park in the nearby lot. Bathrooms are ok.

I'm happy that security screening is there for our protection. Coat check available. There are 4 different bars inside the hall. All were staffed with nice workers who took time to chat with us. We were happy to see the ice being handled hygienically. There is a separate seating area for bottle service if you are a high roller. There are a few booths in the back if you really need to sit down. The ladies room was clean and stocked. It looked new. The stage is visible from everywhere. You can also go upstairs and look down upon the stage if you don't want to get trampled in the mosh pit. I the bars only take cash. There's an ATM machine at the back. The lot fills up fast, so I parked in the front of the hotel where there was lots of spots available.

The building itself is beautiful and maintained well. In general I love to look for concerts like the last one (Star Wars) and enjoy the live experience and support our (Edmonton) symphony orchestra! :)

I've been to The Winspear a number of times, including getting to perform on stage with my school…read morechoir back in the day. But it had been a while since I'd seen a show there. And then I had tickets for 2 shows just a few weeks from each other. So I figured let's review The Winspear. This concert hall is fantastic in terms of acoustics. I'm sure you've seen other reviews say something similar. There aren't many bad seats, and most of the shows here are concerts so have good sound will be the most important thing imo. The space is beautiful, bathrooms are clean, lots of space in the lobby, coat check is a reasonable $2, and the line for the bar or snacks wasn't to long. The one thing that's a downside is the seating chart, or maybe better to explain it trying to find your seat. The first show I saw (Foil, Arms, & Hog: Skittish) the usher pointed to where my seat was. Sat down and 10 minutes later a man came up and said I was in his seat. No problem, got up, asked another usher where to go. I was further down on the main floor. The second show (1922 film Nosferatu with a live playing of the massive Davis concert organ) my friend and I went were we thought we should sit. We entered on the left doors and there was no usher there. But something didn't feel right so I went to the main doors to ask an usher if we were in the right spot. He pointed to where we were sitting so I went back there. A few minutes later another group of people in that section we were in realized they were in the wrong spot when other people came to their seats. And that group(the ones that had to move) said they were in the section our tickets said. Obviously we were in the wrong spot, so we moved to right seats. So that was confusing with the seats and there isn't anything, other than on the doors to mark what the sections are. The fact that two different ushers at two different shows I've been to told me to go to the wrong seats is a bit frustrating. There is an online interactive map, but I find on a phone it's hard to see and navigate. Maybe have a paper map outside by the doors, especially the ones on the left and right side if no usher is going to be there. That's my one gripe about the Winspear. Other than that both the shows were great. The Winspear is right downtown and the library parkade is nearby. There's also Churchill station nearby, so pretty accessible for transit. I've already got tickets for a third show I'm seeing in a few weeks, so I hopefully I won't get sent to the wrong seats.

The chairs are pretty standard for a venue like this and the stage set up looks pretty versatile. I liked the fact that the restroom was for all genders. There was some great art on display and for purchase as well. While this neighborhood is not one I visit frequently, it is an easily transit accessible location and there was street parking available in the area (I understand this is pretty limited when there's an event going on at the Stadium however). The building looks well weathered but well used as a live music venue. Purchasing tickets in advance was easy and the associated website was good. I'd definitely go to another show here. There is good acoustics for the venue in general. Signage isn't great -- it would be better if the building had better identification.

From the outside it still looks like a house but it's a funky house, the window coverings are pretty iconic of The Aviary already! The cool thing is, now that it's finished I can really see how much work they have put into the place! The entrance way is more like a venue (and less like walking into a living room) it brings you round to the bar and where you pay cover etc, once properly inside the space has a nice bar the length of the room, a handful of tables and chairs, decent size stage at the back, local art displayed all round and awesome sound! The vibe is cosy, and there big emphasis on supporting local artists - I dig that. I like the beer listings on the wall - mostly craft beer and Phil knows a lot about them and recommended a really nice lager to me while I was there. I already love watching bands in this space and can't wait to go back.
