Holy moly! Talk about a hotspot for comfort food! I've never tried this Yats location in Columbus so I'm not sure if they all do this, but I really enjoyed that I could truly create my own personalized lunch. I went with the red beans and sausage on white rice today. My boyfriend went with chorizo and chicken on white rice. Such huge portions!! I feel like I'll be able to get at least 4 meals out of my one lunch serving. The flavor in these dishes will knock your socks off! You can tell that these are prepared with care and time. The spices really work together to bring the taste of New Orleans to Columbus, Indiana. There was one hostess working the register and getting food to customers who was completely lovely. We enjoyed her friendly demeanor and patience when we asked how the menu worked. Plentiful seating available. Complimentary street parking if you can find it. Music playing and decor that give a nod to the blues. Cute crystal chandeliers throughout give this place a warm and inviting break on a workday. We'll definitely be back soon! Sadly, our local Yat's closed so while on a road trip home, we were so happy to find this place! Easy to find in a cute downtown area with a parking garage right across the street. The first hour is free! It was clean and airy with a lovely patio right outside. We were greeted when we walked in and enjoyed our time visiting there. My husbands fav is Red Beans with Sausage. My go to is the Drunkin Chicken or their Chipotle Alexio. Both delicious! We've already made plans to come back to the cute town of Columbus and explore more while enjoying Yats! read more

First visit to Yatz. We love Cajun food. Service- the man working today did not greet us when we walked in. This was our first visit. The restaurant is a little darker the the street. It took us a second to see the "order here". So we went up to order. He glared at us so we ordered. As one of us ordered he started picking his teeth with his fingers. We should have went back out the door. He rudely ask us to repeat our order. After we got our food he stood in front of the mirror picking his teeth. I didn't feel like he wanted out business. Food- The food was okay. The unsweet tea terrible almost like it was several days old. Service-The service sucked. The man was rude. Teeth picking. Ambiance- Dim lighting, sticky tables. A good scrub would help. I think I will skip Yatz in Columbus next time I want Cajun. read more

Yats never disappoints. I am a Columbus local and work downtown, so I find myself at Yats for lunch all the time. Unless it is a Friday, you can get in and sit down with your food within five minutes. Nice outdoor seating. The menu is limited to about 10 items including two or three vegan dishes. Cool vibe to the place with eclectic choices of music, cheerful cashier/bartender, and extremely efficient kitchen outflow. Nice alcohol selection as well in the evenings but there is some pretty tough competition downtown in the evenings. I will keep going back to Yats again and again. You should too. read more

I love coming to Yats. It's written on the glass door, so when you leave, it reminds you to 'stay'. The food is great, and comes out super fast. There are a good number of options that you can put on rice. The buttered Cajun toast they give you with the meal is delicious, recommend to get extra. I love Yats! I'm here quite often and almost always get the chili cheese etouffee with crawfish. It's so rich and delicious that it warms the soul when you're having a bad day. Always wipe the plate clean with the last of the bread. Mmmm. The curry chicken etouffee is quite good and it doesn't scream curry to me it's just chicken and mushroom etouffee. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and it's all good - just find what you like. If you're new to Yats I recommend the 1/2 and 1/2 plate - try whatever sounds good. If you're nervous about this unfamiliar food get 1/2 red beans and rice and 1/2 chili cheese etouffee as an introduction and you can branch out from there or settle in for your favorite. Diet Mountain Dew is a bonus. Nice atmosphere and friendly people run the place, so it's always a pleasure. read more

Yats is a great, quick cajun option when you're short on time or money. Heck, it's the only Cajun option within 50 or so miles, so eat here even if your wallet is overflowing and you have all the time in the world. The daily selections can change a bit, but my favorite is the Macques-Choux and the B&B, both of which are slightly sweet and spicy, and contain a fair amount of corn. The Gumbo is nice as well. The bread is addictively dangerous...you can order extra if you are so inclined. Yats is also is a great place to come for live music for Second Saturdays, when the second Saturday of each month from 7pm-10pm they have an open mic night and various local people come out to play. It's great to watch people who have normal day jobs break out and sing. There's some serious talent around here, and it's always a good time. read more

The food is fantastic. I've had a everything on the menu and it's all very good. The rice is a bit bland and could use some help but I'm not there for the rice. My personal favorite is the Macque choux. The reason why I gave 3 stars is because every time I go by there or go in, they're outside smoking. So not only do I feel bad for interrupting their break, but then they go on and prepare the food. I'm sure they wash their hands but there's just something unappetizing about it. read more

Small place. Crowded during lunch hours on weekdays. Food is tasty. Drunken chicken is a must have. Their entrees are served with bread. Order an extra. It's worth it! The bread alone is worth the trip. Never had anything like it. It's bread, buttered then a cajun-spiced oil is spread on it or something. I don't generally eat bread as a side dish, but this was magnificent. For my meal I did half and half chili cheese etouffee and chicken chipotle alexia. Both were excellent for the price. My family and I were passing through Indianapolis and looking for a place to have lunch. My wife is a vegetarian which sometimes presents a challenge when trying to find a place we can both agree on, especially when traveling. We found this place on Yelp and the reviews mentioned spinach and mushroom etoufee and something called B&B. There were also mentions of red beans and sausage and crawfish etoufee. As a former resident of New Orleans, I am very skeptical of any place outside of Louisiana that calls itself "cajun" or "creole". They almost never actually are. So, I suggested this place to my wife solely due to their vegetarian options, thinking I'd be subjecting myself to more sub-par food that makes a mockery out of my beloved New Orleans cuisine. I could not have been more wrong. The crawfish etoufee was very good. While I have had better, this was some of the best I've had outside of New Orleans itself. But, oh, that red beans and sausage. If I were stranded on a desert island and could have only one thing to eat for the rest of my life, it would be that. This was the absolute best red beans and sausage I've had, period. Smoky, with a hint of sweetness, I wanted to crawl into that dish and make it have my children. The B&B my wife had was also delicious. As a rule, I don't eat vegetarian dishes, but this one I would. I want this recipe. The spinach and mushroom etoufee was also very good. My wife said her tummy was very happy after eating her food. Despite being hipsters, the staff was surprisingly friendly and pleasant. After this meal, we looked on Zillow to see what houses are available to buy. How many restaurants have you been to that make you consider moving just so you can be close to it? This one had us considering it. Do yourself, your taste buds, and your stomach a favor. I've lived in Indy for almost 4 years and had never been to Yats until Saturday. As a vegetarian cajun food didn't exactly call to me. On Saturday I found myself in Columbus, hungry, and so I made my way to the Yats in the Commons. They had three vegetarian options (two of which were vegan and gluten-free): 1. Mushroom and spinach etoufee (etoufee means that it has a butter and flour base) 2. Succotash with kidney beans, okra, and corn 3. Black bean something or other We went with an order of #1 and #2. Each was served on a styrofoam plate under a pile of rice and with a garlic toast. It was pretty tasty and great value at $6 a plate, but I probably won't hurry back. I'm personally not a big fan of that style of eating - a big glop of something on top of rice. It's the same reason why I don't like most Indian lunch buffets. But if you are a fan of that style of eating, you will probably like Yats a lot. There's lots of space so it's good for families, and they even have extra diapers in the women's restroom (major parent points for that). read more

I work upstairs from this place. I eat there twice a week. It isn't overly expensive, the folks who own the place are awesome, and the food is fabulous. It's unfair of other reviewers to give bad reviews to restaurants because they don't happen to like the food they chose. Not everyone likes all foods. That doesn't mean it's a bad place to eat. Just because it might not be _your taste_ doesn't mean that other people won't enjoy it. To this end, recommended highly to anyone who likes spicy, rice dishes. Maybe more of a 2.5-star, but Columbus is a small enough place that I'll bump it up. Not really sure why the place gets such good reviews. The bread itself was squishy and not very flavorful, and the sauce they put on it was way too salty. The main dishes were perfectly edible and had some decent flavors, but they had clearly been sitting out for a while, so the textures were kinda gloppy. Passing through town we were looking for something quick. We stopped in and were greeted by friendly waitstaff, who offered to let us sample a few of the offerings. Each of us ordered something different and all of us enjoyed our meals. The food is well proportioned for lunch. Not too spicy and plenty of sauces for those that want more kick. Went to this place with my girlfriend. We both ate, and got full, for less than 20 bucks(including tip). The staff was incredibly friendly and did not hesitate to offer free samples of the food, which was AWESOME. I had the Drunken Chicken and red beans and sausage. The drunken chicken was amazing. It had a very good flavor and generous amounts of chicken, with just the right amount of kick. The red beans and sausage was also extremely good. I thought it was a little short on the sausage, at first but found smaller chunks mixed in with the beans. It could have benefited from a little more spice, but hey that's why they have a HUGE selection of hot sauces. My girlfriend got the chili cheese etoufee with crayfish, and she raved about it. I tried a small bite and loved it, even though I am not big on crayfish. I spoke with the gentleman who took our order for a few minutes when I went up to get more bread. The fact you only get two pieces of bread is a minor complaint, but additional pieces are cheap (he just gave me two extra pieces). He informed me they were looking to open a Yats down in Louisville (where I am from) and I REALLY hope he was right. I will certainly be eating at Yats again.
