What a neat joint. Went in for breakfast. Was greeted by Miranda. So bubbly and friendly. I let her know I had like 20 minutes to eat and she took care of me. It's a large dining area with lots of tables. But it wasn't very noisy. I got 3 eggs over medium with sausage and hashbrowns. Everything was cooked perfectly. The sausage is some of the best I have ever had. Hashbrowns were fantastic! Miranda checked on me a couple of times and was quick to get my check to me and then take my payment. We stopped in for breakfast last weekend. We were not disappointed. We had a great satisfying meal. We got the Rise and Shine with sausage and a biscuit as well as the Friend Bologna sandwich that I of course had to add Bacon and a little mustard to. The homemade chips were delicious as well, they were not all super crispy and I can't decide if that's a good thing or not. All food was great!!! The diner is nice and quiet and the food feels like home. Our server was fun and very welcoming. I didn't catch her name and I feel bad about that. The Rohde's Family Diner is a locally owned restaurant that recently moved to its new location. The new pristine dining room is much larger and can accommodate more guests. The decor is country with country music playing in the background. Holly, our server, was friendly, engaging and attentive. She checked on us regularly. Food came out super quickly. They offer daily lunch specials and have a standard breakfast and lunch menu. I ordered a vegetable omelette that was filled with onions, peppers and tomatoes and my choice of cheese. The omelette was large, light and perfectly cooked. The star of the breakfast for me was the marbled rye toast which was delicious. My husband had the Rise and Shine breakfast which was a hearty meal with two perfectly cooked eggs, a homemade biscuit, hash browns and a meat which he chose bacon. He would have preferred the bacon to be a little more crisp, but the breakfast was, overall, a winner. The assorted jellies were a hit. Price were really reasonable. They were half full during our early morning visit, but the noise level is high. The restaurant is an easy/fast two miles off the highway. There is also plenty of parking around the building. I search for diners when we travel bc I know it'll be good food at a reasonable price. I don't look to eat breakfast somewhere I have to worry about how I'm dressed or if I'll know which utensil to use. It's a diner with real people working there. Rohde's delivers a great breakfast in an environment where I enjoy watching locals and non locals talk or just relax and enjoy their meal. Sometimes they're busier, like when a baseball tournament is going on, but they are always making sure their customers are taken care of. Our waitresses have varied from very friendly to nice and efficient but no one has ever been rude. We plan our trips around stopping here for breakfast. Ever been chased away from a diner? Me neither until Friday. December 26th. Place closes at 2. Arrived at 1:23. As my party of 4 approached the door, an employee literally ran to meet us just before entering. "We are closing at 1:30 today and there is a 45 minute wait for food," she said. A clear attempt to drive us away. No sorry, no please come back another day, nothing. As we turned to leave, an elderly couple met the same fate. I stopped here for lunch at Noon on a Tuesday and the place was packed. There is not a lot of atmosphere in this place, but it had a lot of tables and could serve a bunch of people. My server came right over and gave me a menu and took my drink order. The menu was not large, but there should be something for everyone. When she came back with my drink, I ordered the fried bologna sandwich with double meat. I also ordered the house chips instead of the French fries. After quite a wait, approx. 20 minutes my food came out and I noticed the sandwich was on a bun instead of white bread as shown on the menu. Also, there were three pieces of bologna there. If this was double the meat, the normal portion only had 1-1/2 slices?? I thought that was weird. It was served with American cheese. The sandwich was good, and the bologna was tasty and on the greasy side, but delicious. The house made chips were spectacular... I would get those everyday if I lived in the area. They were crisp and had a body to them because they were on the thick side. They were very good. Overall, this was a great place to eat. The food was good. I recently moved to Columbus and one of the first things I needed was to find a new breakfast spot! I always prefer small locally owned restaurants so this seemed like the perfect place to check out - and I have already been back for a second visit! The prices are wonderful for the quantity and quality of food you receive - that is really saying something when all of the big national chains have raised the prices on a plate of pancakes to $16. I know I speak for everyone when I say THANK YOU for not being greedy and charging more just because you probably could. What a breath of fresh air! My first visit was a Saturday morning and, even though it was very busy and they were definitely understaffed, the service and food were great. I had biscuits and gravy which were wonderful but should have been called biscuits and sausage (with a splash of gravy.) The second time I visited was a weekday morning and the place was still packed and they still didn't have enough servers yet the service was still excellent! Shout out to the hard working wait staff! I've never had almost brown sausage gravy and the biscuits were overcooked so badly that the bottom was almost black in spots. We went to this spot because of the high ratings, but we won't go back. Waited almost an hour and a half for food before giving up. The waitress seemed overwhelmed and kept blaming the kitchen staff. But she was slow in taking our order and never offered us as much as a cracker during our long wait. After initially "memorizing" our order, she finally wrote it down after we'd been waiting over an hour. We left after at least two parties that arrived after us were fed before us. Well, I'm long over due to provide an update on Rohde's diner since they moved into their new building off of 2nd street for probably well over 1-2 years. The new building offers a ton more space than their old restaurant, however, it's a bit tucked in and hidden if you are driving south-west on 3rd street. Most of the time I miss the turn if I'm on 3rd street. It really pains me to write this review since my most recent experience was not good. (I love a good old fashioned diner and in the past I had reasonable experiences) I went in for breakfast and had French toast and a coffee. The coffee was fine but the French toast was terrible. The plate that it came on had dried egg wash strip across the surface with the French toast on top. The French toast was cold and seemed like it never got dipped into the egg bath. At first I though it was toast. Not warm, cold. I put the butter on top and none of it melted. I was deciding whether or not to complain but the waitress was nowhere to be found. I was hoping the deeper slices were at least warm and they were not. I literally tried one half-slice and left the rest untouched. The waitress was really friendly and took my order quickly but I never saw her again until she put the bill on the table. I wanted at least 2 more coffee refills but she never stopped at my table to ask how the food was or ask if I needed a refill. I would have thought the uneaten breakfast would have sparked a "was everything ok? was there something wrong? Nope. So, I gave 2 stars for what is probably the lowest cost breakfast in town from a non-chain and a friendly staff. Food wise, 1 star on this visit. On a road trip with the hubby . Right off the expressway was bob evans, ihop, Waffle House, etc... I wanted to support a small local place and found Rohde's diner on Yelp. Only a few reviews, but 5 stars, so why not? "Family" is exactly what it was. Quaint little diner. Mom owner and young teen daughter waiting on the tables. I had the Cuban sandwich with home made chips. Husband had the BLT. Also had the "cheese balls" which were pepper jack! Was it a gourmet restaurant? No. Was it good, homemade food? Definitely. Sarah uses family recipes to serve delicious staples like burgers and fries, chicken and noodles, Salisbury steak, and chicken pot pie. On my way home from an early PT appointment, I wanted breakfast & decided to stop in at Rohde's to give them a try. One table was cleaned-up & available, so that's where I sat. It took 2 or 3 minutes for the server to notice me, which wasn't bad given that they were busy. The server came by with a menu, asked what I wanted to drink, & then went to get it. As stated, they were busy - she did NOT go straight to the coffee pot & come straight back - she had other things to do. When she did get back w/ coffee I asked about breakfast & was told it was too late for that. Handing her the menu, I declined the lunch I didn't want & she went about her business as I initiated an out-going phone call that couldn't wait. Ten minutes later the breakfast I wanted was brought out to the next table over - but hey, I got there too late, right? Per the call log on my phone, the out-going call made after she brought coffee was at 10:34 AM. I guess the breakfast cut-off was 10:00AM & it took them more than 44 minutes to make the breakfast brought out to the other gentleman(?) - I don't know. What I do know is that I walked in right at 10:30 at the absolute latest, or more likely slightly before, & got told that I couldn't order breakfast when they were, in fact, still cooking breakfast. I'm taking this as the straight-up, pure & simple FU that it was, but am actually GLAD she did that as I don't want anybody as foolish as that anywhere near my food. Chances are I'll keep that call log entry for the life of a brand new iPhone 12 - I've pointed to it five times in the last seven hours, & four of the five I've shared this story with had similarly negative stories of their own. Don't judge this book by the cover. The inside is clean and comfortable. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. The portions were large and much more than expected for the money.
