I have walked by this place many times at Jefferson Pointe and considered stopping in but have passed it by usually because my small kids are with me when visiting the mall. I stopped in for lunch today with a coworker and am so glad I did! The ambiance is fast casual with some cute NOLA décor. The restaurant was clean and even the self serve sauce/spice station was well kept. The service here is outstanding. Our counter worker was very pleasant and helpful since we had never been before. He explained how to order and also let us know that we were free to sample any of the étouffés before we decided on anything. I tasted the Allexio and the Drunken. The Allexio was a bit too creamy for lunch time IMO, but the Drunken was really nice. All of the flavors were well balanced in both and unique. I liked that there was an option for white or brown rice! Two scoops of étouffé is included in your meal over rice, and I found it to be just the right amount to be satisfied without feeling overly full. I opted for the side of Cajun bread as it was highly recommended by the staff. My lunch partner really enjoyed it, but I personally would opt for chips next time. It had a strong artificial butter flavor to it (it is made with a butter substitute) that tasted like movie theatre butter and was quite oily. They also offer a cole slaw, but that just isn't my jam in general. I do wish they had dish service instead of the Styrofoam containers or at least offered it on paper plates/bowls to be a little more environmentally friendly, but overall I was pretty impressed! Growing up in Indy I loved going to Yats, so I was super stoked when I heard they were opening a location in Fort Wayne! It was just as amazing as I remember, except maybe better?! Service was incredible as usual (free samples & nice workers who always seem to be in a great mood), but now they offer white AND brown rice, as well as toppings! I branched out and tried the jambalaya and chipotle alexio this time, both of which were incredible. The jambalaya does pack some heat so beware. And if you're on the fence, always order extra Cajun bread and thank me later. read more

If you're looking for authentic Creole food with white/brown rice base, this is the spot! They also let you sample before choosing which helped in making a great choice. I had the Drunken (chicken) and it had a little kick to it but lots of flavor. I would definitely order it again. The gumbo is delicious too. I'll be back to try more. Yats and Kurt Vonnegut are the best things to come out of Indiana imho. It's no New Orleans but it's the next best thing north of the Mason-Dixon Line for some comfort French Cajun/ Creole cooking. The best part? Free samples. I fully enjoyed sampling all the yummy offerings... I think I had to try at least 7... before deciding on my 2 choices for my half/half order. It was tough, but the chilli cheese ettouffe won me over with its generous crawfish portions mixed in. I also had the maque choux which was basically an etouffe with chicken, bell peppers and a surprising pop of sweetness from the carmelized corn mixed in. It might not look like much from the pictures, but it had a nice flavor, but almost bordered on too sweet for me the more I dined on the gargantuan proportion. All of this comes with a side of garlic buttered French bread to dab up that delicious sauce. I was completely stuffed after half the bread and a slight dent into my etouffe. This one portion could easily turn into two other meals. I also decided to try the peanut butter pie and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and technique used to make the pie. I visited Yats today! I want to tell you I loved it, but in the end, I liked it. The food is seasoned, highly so, but not in a salty way. Just a spice and seasoning blend. I had the red beans and sausage over white rice and it was good, certainly not the best I've had, but very edible and flavored well. I shared the entree with my lunch companion easily, so the portion was plentiful. The service from the gentleman at the counter was superb. I can tell he's a seasoned, pun intended, service provider. He was kind, patient, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The other person there at the time of my visit was a little less personable. She was neither friendly or helpful, she wasn't rude, just blah... she was rather blah. I don't like that on customer service, but it's pretty much the norm everywhere. The ambiance is very NOLA themed. Vibrant colors for the decor accessories. It's a nice establishment with lots of seating, great lighting, and someone who who's is pretty awesome on staff. Lots of Parking. Awesome Location! For only having one person working the counter, he kept up with the large group of people who came in. He was very nice, friendly and helpful! The place was very clean and had nice decorations! They even give you samples to try before your purchase! Perfect amount of food to select from. The food came out quick, fresh, and hot! The food here is fantastic! I used to go to the location in Indianapolis when I would visit family and they brought it successfully to the fort! The bread is fantastic with anything. The workers were so kind. Talked us through how to order, different items, provided suggestions, and offered free samples. It's a great location for a casual lunch and wanting to try something different. Cute place with indoor and outdoor seating available with shops near by. My fiancé joined me and was also impressed. We both have very different preferences in taste which can make it difficult to find somewhere to eat. the food is VERY good! as my first time coming in I felt a welcoming vibe! They let me try a few samples as of it being my first time there, and all of the samples were very very delicious! I decided to order the "Maque Choax" and that one had to be my favorite one! it's very sweet and all the seasonings mix so well together! they are very very polite here! and I do recommend coming here! Everytime I have been here the workers are really polite and quick with the orders. The employee, Key, has been a great help every time. The menu has so many options with the ability to combine different menu items making whole new experiences every time. im pretty upset that the offerings are not similar to what is offered in Indy... there I can order my food by the quart and it came with white rice. stopped by today for the first time since opening in FW and they just gave me two scoops of the sauce and no rice... they don't sell by the pint or quart either. customer service was lacking. the guy was friendly enough I guess when he wasn't staring at his phone, but he did not seem knowledgeable of the menu. as a very regular customer at the Avon and Broadripple locations I'm disappointed in the Fort Wayne one. read more
