Called the shop to see if they had an barrel picks in. Guy answers and says yes, they have a couple. I asked if he could tell me which. He said, "come in and see," to which I replied, "I live 35 minutes away and can't just pop in." He said, "I'm busy" and hung up on me. Horrible way to treat customers. Keeping this review short and sweet. Not my typical review, but I'm so furious, a long review would be short winded. I've been calling this shop as suggested by the staff for a little over 2 weeks now for the release of Pappy Van Winkle. I was told the release was the first week in November, but they're not sure when they'll receive the shipment so calling each day is the best option. I called yesterday to be told no, they did not get the shipment yet. I called today to be told, "sorry we sold out yesterday." I'm stunned. Either I didn't call late enough in the day, or they didn't get the couple of cases they said they would. I didn't further my questioning because I was stunned. I'm not sure if I just got on the nerves of the staff that they gave me bad information, or if they bought all the supply themselves. Hell, maybe they had some type of waiting list or internal list of clients that got the information first, despite telling me they didn't. I'm super disappointed in this store and will not be coming back to give them business. I guess my first clue about their service should've been when I asked about Hibiki (a Japanese whisky), in which a staff member responded "if I wanted to drink something of the Orient, I'd drink sake.. and I don't like sake." Looks like I didn't keep this one short, oh well​. If you're in the market for an all American experience, coupled with ignorance and bad service.. you'll love ye old spirit shop. Almost forgot, they offer tons of high end products as listed on their website. None of which are actually in store. When I asked the staff on my last visit, they had admitted to not updating their site for a little over 5 years now.. false advertising maybe? read more

This place is a gem! A surprising great selection of world wines and craft beers. If you care about more than just obtaining some alcohol, skip the liquor store and come here, you won't be disappointed. I consider myself a bit of a wine geek and my sister is a total beer nerd - we always find something good! They do have a great selection, however they tried to overcharge me definitely on purpose. I got the make your own six pack and it came to $20. The guy at the register quickly took my credit card before I noticed it was 20 freaking dollars. I asked why it costed so much and the guy looked so surprised that I asked why. He was fake apologetic, and kept saying "Thank you SO MUCH for catching that." But gave me no explanation. He refunded me $10.00, and said again very over-dramatically "Thank you SO MUCH for catching that." Yeah, definitely won't be back. Shady people. read more

I used to go to Ye Old Spirit Shop a lot because they always had a great selection of items. After ownership changed, I visited four times and left each time with nothing. The selection is not what it used to be, items are shelved with no pricing, and unfortunately I will not be returning. It's a run of the mill liquor store now in my estimation. Beer, beer and more beer is why I love this place. You've hit the jackpot if you are looking for a deep selection of domestic microbrews as well as imported beer from Belgium, Germany, England and beyond. Mix and match six packs are available if you want to try a little of this and a little of that. The wine selection is just as large and the liqueur selection certainly can't be classified as small. There's a lunch time deli in the back, but I haven't tried it so I can't comment on it. Located in an unassuming brick office complex next to Rt. 15 and across from Max Keane park. Might be hard to notice the first time you look for it but once you know where it is you'll probably be back. Prices are reasonable, not rock bottom but not over priced. I know of no place in Frederick that has more variety of beer. read more

I'm still trying to figure out why someone else started writing reviews for this place under the title "Ye Olde Spirits Shoppe"... I'm like a kid in a candy store at this place...it's complete sensory overload. If I set foot inside, I'm guaranteed to walk out with at least $20 worth of beer (usually more like $50). I jokingly say that I collect beers like they're action figures. The best thing is that you can buy beer by the bottle; something I haven't experienced anywhere else in Frederick. Their selection is phenomenal and always changing and they are extremely knowledgeable. They might not be the cheapest in town, but they're my favorite just because they provide exactly what I'm looking for. read more

As a craft beer lover, I really have no choice but to give this place five stars. The reason? I am willing to drive out of my own county about 30 miles to go here when there are plenty of beer stores around the corner from my home. Another reviewer mentioned that this place is a travel destination which is very true. I make it a point to stop here whenever I am visiting Frederick. I've even been known to make a special trip just to pick up beer for a party. The beer selection is unmatched along the I270 corridor and the prices are significantly lower than the same beer (if you are able to find it) in Montgomery County. They list an impressive amount of spirits inventory on their website. They don't come close to having that much in the store. I feel like this is false advertising. Their prices for spirits are around 20% higher than all Montgomery County stores. Go to MoCo to save $$$ and find a better selection (of spirits). read more

highly recommend. After trying several of the liquor stores near our home and always coming up empty for local craft beer, I'm so glad that we tried this place out. The reviews on yelp are what first got my attention, but the selection and the friendliness of the staff are what really sealed the deal. they have a wide variety of craft beers, not just local maryland brews but other great selections, and have the wonderful 6pack mix and match policy. what was even better was when i noticed that the six pack that we bought....was less than it was at other liquor stores.... great variety and good prices? sold! we've found our new spot for great craft beer :) read more

Excellent selection of wine and beer! And mix & match six packs were an awesome deal - we got to try a bunch of the fall craft beers and ciders that were around the store. We dropped by on our way up to the cabin after a Costco trip - pretty convenient to get to off of Rt. 15! Accidentally passed by it because I couldn't see the sign - didn't realize I had to look past the hedges to find the store initially. If you're looking for craft beer in Frederick, this is a great place to find it. They have a very good selection of all of the major craft breweries: Stone, Goose Island, Flying Dog, Dogfish Head, etc. They also have a nice selection of English, Belgian, and German beers. The selection is well organized, but there is beer scattered throughout the store, so be sure to dig around; you might find some real gems! The prices are standard. It's expensive because it's good, and on average the prices for what you're getting will be the same anywhere else. Some folks on here are upset that they don't have enough cheap swill, but who goes on yelp to find a place to buy Bud Lime anyway? As has been mentioned elsewhere, the staff is very friendly and helpful. I can't comment on the wine or liquor, but this is a great store for beer. read more

My favorite place for beer in Frederick. You can't beat the make your own 6 pack deal (10% off). For someone like me that loves to try new brews but just doesn't drink the volume to cover buying 6 packs of everything I want to drink the mixed 6 pack is the best option. The beer selection is fantastic, although sometimes it's hard to get all the limited stuff because it sells out very fast (I guess that's a side effect of being such a popular and highly regarded beer store). When you ask for beer selections, you'll get good recommendations no matter what your beer tastes are. Liquor and Wine selections are also great. This place really impressed me! I was on my way down to DC, and needed to pick up some supplies for the evening. Not waiting to purchase anything in PA, I saw the good reviews here so I decided to stop. Located in a small business park plaza, it's easy to miss it. This is a well-rounded liquor store that has a good selection of beers, wine and liquor. It has craft beers in coolers as well as on the shelf for whatever occasion you are buying for. It's not the biggest selection of craft beers I've seen, but plenty to choose from. There is also a choose your own 6 pack available if you don't know what you'd like. Prices for 6 packs were reasonable. People need to realize that craft beer costs more than bud light! I didn't buy any wine, but I did get some vodka, with another decent selection of liquors as well. All in all, a pretty solid choice, probably the best selection available for miles! read more

The Good: - great selection of MD beers you can't get in VA - a few out-of-state singles I haven't seen elsewhere (Old Foghorn by Anchor) - pretty big singles section (beer cans/bottles) - friendly employees (offered to let me break up any six pack if it wasn't in singles, helpful without being overbearing) - right off Rt. 15, close to interstate, so convenient if you're passing through The Bad: - expensive: some of the single tall boys were $6 or $7 a piece (for admittedly higher proof like 10%, but that's still a lot) - seems like the beer selection is a little smaller than it used to be (visited 6/19, last there a year ago) And (the rest of) the story: Definitely a fan. Seriously though, the selection of beers and ciders at Ye Old is top notch and the wine selection is varied and not typical of other wine stores. But the Smuttynose...thank you for letting me get my OBD fix. It seems every time I find Smutty around here, the store drops it in favor of more regional brews. Hands down the best place in Frederick for serious beer lovers. Ye Olde has a beer selection that rivals anything you would find in a bigger city. Lots of Belgian and Belgian-inspired brews. I wish we could find those in the local bars as easily as we can buy them here. The prices for Flying Dog six packs (our go-to local craft beer) are slightly less than other small liquor stores in the surrounding blocks. This is about as good as it gets for craft brew lovers. A "travel destination," the selection is so good and ever-changing and varied and MASSIVE. Was my favorite but now the last place I will shop. The staff will each tell you something different. No one is on the same page and no one knows what they are advertising. The last straw was when I called there and asked how much a specific item was, repeated myself just to be clear, drove 45 minutes in the rain only to be told that the item was not the same price as when I had just called.
