Another outstanding meal at my favorite syracuse restaurant…read more Enjoyed some time this Friday with special people as we sat and enjoyed an exquisite dining out. I was the only returning patron, the others much enjoyed their first time here. Walking through the front door you're instantly hit with a wonderful smell of food cooking over an open fire. Got a terrific table to look out the window and enjoyed a nice evening view. Took full advantage of every food meal course available. Started out with their evening appetizer of homemade bread with cinnamon butter. Each of us got our own dinner choice along with small plates to start. The two small plates were green lentil salad and ember roasted carrots. Both of them with their unique flavor and style. The green lentil salad featured heirlooms. The ember roasted carrots featured labrieth, doqqa, and maple syrup. Keep in mind everything here comes from local farms and local breweries and distilleries. Big fan of supporting the state and local community. Fantastic! They feature only a few main entrées, tonight's included halibut, steak, chicken, and sea Island peas with jasmine rice. Knowing how well seasoned their steaks are, I went with a filet mignon 10 ounce. Probably a little more than I should've gotten, but I very rarely eat steak and know how well and good they are here. Ordered the steak medium to medium rare and that's exactly how it came out. Mouth watering delicious. Along with the steak includes mashed potatoes, chimichurri, kale, and. crème fraiche. Every bite was outstanding. One of us got ice cream for dessert which she said was very good. The ice cream was made right there at the restaurant. We kicked off the dinner with a rum cocktail and a tequila cocktail. All spirits locally sourced. If you haven't tried it here yet you should. You will not be disappointed.

We were promptly seated and ordered glasses of wine while perusing the menu, which is on the smaller side. That usually means everything on it is rather good, so we had high expectations. We started with the Mushroom Toast, Ember Roasted Carrots, and Beef Tartar. I'll start with the bad and finish with the good. The Ember Roasted Carrots were a complete miss. They were trying to go for a middle-eastern flavor, with each ingredient contrasting, while the carrot served as the centerpiece to flavor. I found this to be INCREDIBLY bland. The carrots were not salted enough during roasting and lacked enough char. They dish also needed more labneh than it was served with. It literally just tasted like carrots and yoghurt. Honestly, if I could only give one critique it would be to have used more salt, but this dish was a real disappointment. The Beef Tartar suffered from a similar issue. It was bland. Not enough salt was used. It unfortunately tastes like flat beef. I overheard the bartender talking to another couple and he told them they really want to highlight the ingredients. The idea is purity or something like that. And that's well and good, but you still need to season beef tartar. I don't think this is necessarily a poor execution of the dish(es) rather this is more in line with the philosophy of the kitchen, and that's fine. It's just not for me. And now for the good. The Mushroom Toast was great. It had all the things I had wanted. Fat, salt, umami, freshness. This was a good dish and I would get this again. As for the entrees, my husband and I ordered the Cappelletti and the NY Strip. The Cappelleti was the strongest dish of the night. The flavors were layered and intentional. This was a great dish and I1000% would get it again. My husband ordered the NY Strip along with bone marrow. It was cooked to perfection. Cooking it over a wood fire gave it a great char and almost Smokey flavor. It was very flavorful. The chimichurri made the steak feel lighter than it actually was. My husband loved it and I loved having a bite or two of everything together. This was a complete dish and I'd highly recommend it. The only knock I could give it is the bone marrow. There was a lack of volume in it which is probably due to being cooked over a wood fire. Parts of the bones were also over roasted. I'd skip this the next time and get the foie gras pate. Lastly, for desert we were disappointed that we could not try the rice pudding as they were out of it (we will try it the next time if available). We did however order the Flourless Chocolate Torte to share. It was made perfectly. It was rich and decadent but remained light. It was almost like a mousse, but not quite. We loved it. Overall, the had a great time. There were several highlights and I think they make up for the a couple of the earlier dishes. I'd like to see what else they have to offer when they change their menu.

The onion rings were pretty good, too. I gotta say for a place that kinda screams "overpriced", it really isn't. Came to almost exactly 50 dollars for two burgers with fries, order of onion rings, and a soft drink. Honestly? In this economy? Pretty fair for the size and quality. 6 dollars for a shake kinda surprised me too, albeit I didn't order one. Server was nice. Place was probably overstaffed, but pretty great experience overall. Very pleasantly surprised. Check it out.

The calm ambiance and muted, cinnamon-brown walls of the space's predecessor, Cafe at 407, which closed at the end of 2023, have been replaced with TVs in the dining area and bar, a wall-length mural and a little nook with a neon sign that reads "Say Cheese!" and Polaroids of satisfied customers pinned to the wall. The menu taps into childhood fast food nostalgia, with burgers, fries, onion rings and milkshakes -- plus beer, wine, cocktails and boozy sodas. With five burgers, two chicken sandwiches, two salads, a few shareable starters, Fly Bird chicken tenders, a Chicago-style glizzy and a fried fish sandwich served only on Fridays, the menu isn't long, but offers enough variation to appeal to most diners. The wife and I stopped in on a Saturday right at opening time. We were sat and given menus immediately. We decided to share a burger and fries and an order of tenders. We ordered the blue suede shoes - a burger topped with cheddar, bacon, lettuce, tomato, carmelized onions, pickles and house remoulade and an order of hot stuff buffalo tenders. Our food was brought relatively quickly and we enjoyed everything. Fries were fresh, crispy and seasoned, burger was cooker perfectly, the tenders were fresh, crispy, saucy and had just the slightest kick of heat to them. Our server was very friendly and helpful, prices were comparable to similar restaurants, and we has plenty of food to bring home. We'd definitely go again.

The restaurant was beautifully set up for the holiday, with a great atmosphere and a thoughtfully curated drink menu. I ordered the Toxic Ex-presso Martini, and WOW -- it was incredible. Absolutely one of the best espresso martinis I've had. For appetizers, we got the Thai chili tossed Brussels sprouts with garlic aioli, and they were to die for. Perfectly seasoned, crispy, and flavorful -- honestly, I could've just eaten that and been happy! For dinner, I had the Chicken Française, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My husband ordered the fish and chips and said the tartar sauce was some of the best he's ever had. My son got the shrimp tacos topped with pineapple pico and served with homemade chips -- sooo good! We ended the night with dessert (because how could we not?): a layered brownie and cookie dough cake and a maple crème brûlée. Both were phenomenal and the perfect sweet ending. We've been here for brunch before and now for dinner, and both experiences have been fantastic. I cannot wait to go back and try something new! Highly recommend!

The Blue Tusk closed in 202 after 26 years and a landlord dispute. The Blue Tusk had an extensive number of taps and a vibe that kept people coming back. The Taphouse on Walton open in March/April of this year. The space has been totally renovated. There are 24 taps plus beers in cans, and a variety of other liquors. The food menu has a good variety including charcuterie boards. The beers we had were good. I would say the tap list was no special, but did have a good variety including a nitro stout. A couple people order takeouts and we bought a Bavarian pretzel for the table with cheese dip. I expected a large Bavarian pretzel, but instead it was three Bavarian style pretzel sticks. What stood out was that the bar was quiet at 5 p.m. on a Friday. Quiet. Is the Taphouse getting a crowd later in the evening? For its survival, I hope the answer is yes. The other thing that stood out is that the place has no vibe. I know "vibe" is hard to quantify, but you know it when you feel it. The Taphouse doesn't have it. Perhaps their target audience isn't interested in vibe. Finally the decor feels unfinished. I'll also not that the only seating area back in a far corner seems a bit too private. In other words , if you wanted to do "X", that would be the place to sit.

Let me get to the details: Service: staffs were not attentive, friendly, nor helpful. The restaurant was busy when we came so we decided to seat outside. However, their outdoor tables were wobbly. Also, there were no bugs control devices nor heating lamps to accommodate us. When we asked to move inside, their response was we have to talk to the host and the hostess told us it is not possible because they were "too busy".... Yet we would see an empty table where they rather seat 2 people that come after us instead of us. On top of all that, our sever never came to refill our water. For service, this place is a zero star for me. Food: we ordered their famous heavy plate. The food size was loaded for the price, everything tastes fine but nothing was exceptional. Giving them some stars for the decent food. Atmosphere: inside has lots of booth style seatings and bar seatings. They can accomplish large parties. Outdoor seating is not great as their tables were cheap and they're seating on a slope. There were no heat lamps or bug controls so I don't recommend eating outside in the evening here. Overall: honestly, we felt ignored at this restaurant. I wouldn't come back here since they're not very accommodating or nice. Highly recommend management to train their staffs better.
