I was really skeptical coming here late on a Saturday evening. Although I am well over age, they had an intimidating bouncer next by the door which was off-putting. The place itself if a dingy regular bar, with many small TVs around with sports on (and a surprisingly high amount of infomercials). We tried the Yelp check in perk (was pretty difficult to do, no one knew what it was). It's a seat yourself, serve yourself sort of environment (go up to the bar to order everything). That being said, I'm giving this place a 4/5 stars for the chicken tenders alone. I was very very pleasantly surprised (I expected all bar food to be bar food). The chicken tenders were very crispy and tasty. My one qualm is that the size of the different tenders is extremely varied/not uniform. This means between the different orders in the group, some portions looked much larger than others. In addition, as a note, the eight piece tenders does not come with fries, only the four piece. All in all, I was really pleasantly surprised by the food and will likely come back for the chicken tenders again in the future. read more

This was a pleasant surprise for me, in the end. It was a long, long day, after my event. Went to hotel, and changed, and was almost tempted to stay there, but forced myself out. There are 4 or 5 bar/restaurants just across the street from the Courtyard Marriott Armory Square, where I stayed. First couple were really packed, due to the World Series, and so I walked a little farther down the street. Found Clinton Street Pub, which seemed like the local hangout from the looks inside. Not too many people, which meant plenty of room at the bar, which works for me. The waitress, forget her name, was very nice. Served quickly. At first didn't think it was anything special, until more people arrived and ordered their food. I took a look at the menu, and I could see why locals would return. Ordered Sal's Special Burger with deep fried cheese curds, Sal's sassy sauce, and coleslaw on a kaiser roll. How could I go wrong with that? Well, I didn't. In fact it was fantastic. The potato wedges were fried just right, not overdone, or underdone as many establishments struggle with, and the burger was much bigger, juicier and tastier, than expected. One of the only late Monday night games in town. Rolled into town late and found myself here because it was open. I was delighted they took my order after 10pm. All good things my friend. Pub grub for sure - but fresh made. Pulled pork sandwhich double yummy. I had chicken sandwhich which was also great. Food was ready when I got there and over the place had a good vibe. If I didn't have someone waiting for their dinner I could have stayed for a couple. Sides were Mac and cheese and side salad. Clinton Street Pub is owned by Robb Bidwell and Doug Balle, who launched it under that name in 2004 after it had been RJ Lanigan's for several years. One of Armory Square's most familiar nightspots, it transitioned in 2016 to a sports bar, complete with a full kitchen serving tavern food, expanded hours, new tables and 22 new flat screen TVs. The kitchen is also one of the more recent local outlets for those crispy, sweet Sal's Birdland wings. The kitchen staff, led by Aaron Labulis, has been trained in producing those Rochester-based favorites. The wife and I went to CSP with a couple friends before a show at the Landmark Theatre since it was right around the corner. We walked in and it was surprisingly pretty empty, but it was only 5 PM on a Sunday. We were able to choose whatever seating we wanted, so we sat ourselves and a server brought us menus. CSP now sports classier new exterior signs, a new blue-and-orange color scheme inside, sports memorabilia on the walls and plenty of new high-top tables, arranged for viewing the new TV screens. The old Clinton Street Pub had just three TVs, and while the old pool table is gone, electronic darts machines remain and the pub hosts video games and tournaments. It still has that divey neighborhood bar feel, without making you feel disgusting. We had all checked out the menu beforehand and were surprised that some of the things we wanted on the website were no longer on the physical menu. Luckily, they have a lot of tasty sounding things and we were all able to choose other dishes pretty easily. The wife and I ordered spiedie chicken nachos to share, while I went with their homemade chicken tenders meal with fries and the wife tried their popper burger. I would've went with something more interesting, but I'm always interested to try chicken tenders at a place that hand breads their own fresh. Our friends ordered fried cheese curds and some Sal's birdland wing. Our food was brought relatively quickly. Fried cheese curds were good, but it's kinda hard to screw that up. Our spiedie chicken nachos were delicious. The spiedie marinated chicken was great, with some delicious homemade queso on the chips and guacamole. I liked my chicken tenders a lot, crispy, fresh and HUGE. The wife loved her burger, and our friends enjoyed their wings too, which were also gigantic. I'm not a huge fan of the Sal's Sassy sauce that is served with the tenders, but still tasty. Service was good, prices were fair. It does still have that divey, loud sports bar feel to it, so you gotta be in the mood for that. I'd definitely go again and try some more food options. read more

Me and my hubby were looking For a place to get some chicken wings from. To my surprise "BOOM" Sal's Birdland chicken wings and potato wedges OMG...!!!!!! So we ordered online and I went to pick it up... Not a long wait maybe 5-10mins then I left my house to head over. Food was just finishing and it all looked great and smelled soooo good too. When I went in I noticed what a really nice place it was to eat in. There was a couple security guys at the front door as well. Idk if it was cause of the weekend or what. They also have a couple outdoor tables as well... once home I had told my hubby We should definitely dine in sometime. The food was perfect, exactly like the original recipe SO happy that there's a place in CNY that we can enjoy Sal's Birdland style wings again and the same wedges recipe as well. I will preface this with the fact that we got our food through grub hub. So some of the wonder may have been lost in delivery. The food I ordered was on the high end of mediocre I'd say a solid 3.5 but Dave's was not very good at all so I opted not to bump them up. We are going to eventually get around to visiting them in person and I'm hopeful that I can revisit the review and at least bump them to a 4. I got the pickle burger and it was a bit underwhelming. It was a little soggy and the flavors muddled together. The steak fries had a weird texture from being cold. I feel like it just didn't translate well to delivery. What the hell? If you are ordering from home, you should be fine. If you are ordering because you don't have access to an actual kitchen or its amenities, you are going to be sh*t out of luck. I've never had delivery without silverware and napkins before. I don't know if this is a NY thing or not but it's kind of ridiculous to sell mac and cheese delivery without silverware. If you want to black out, puke, hit on ugly chicks, or have a generally debaucherous evening in Syracuse I highly recommend this establishment. They have cheap drinks, a shot wheel, pool tables, free popcorn, filthy bathrooms, awesome bartenders, and less douchebaggery than other Armory Square bars. I'd probably recommend skipping happy hour, or showing up too early on in general. You'll usually just find lecherous old creepy dudes hitting on the bartenders and getting sloshed out of their minds. However, if you find that sort of thing entertaining to watch, you might want to show up. The crowd usually switches at about 10 to the young'uns who want to get down, dirty, and drunk. We ordered Ommegang Nirvana IPA and 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon. Both good choices. Now on to the food, great chicken tenders and wings from Sal's Birdland, with the sassy sauce. Stopped in a few days ago and got a burger and fries. Brioche bun takes it from a 4.5 to a 1. Just another place that caters to bovine america and it's infatuation with all things sugar. Use a real burger bun, not something that is used for dessert in its country of origin. Brioche buns are trash for burgers. They fall apart far too easily. Drove all the way from New Jersey to Syracuse to go bar-hopping with my girlfriend and her friends downtown. We ended up trying Clinton Street Pub during the night and the establishment looked promising, until I met with the bouncer. After the group got ID'd and proceeded to go in, the bouncer, who was relatively short and older looking, looked at my ID and then back at me. He says "It's fake" and begins to harshly bend my legal ID, leaving a dent in it. Obviously I was not happy and left, but this sorry excuse for a bouncer started shouting slurs such as "homo" and told me to take "my Jersey trash out of here." Thanks a lot Clinton Street Pub, now I don't even know if my legal, New Jersey driver's license scans, now it looks like a fake ID because of the dent and I am considering filing a report. Wouldn't recommend this place to literally anyone and my friends said the drinks were watered down anyway. That bouncer was also way too short to be a bouncer. read more

I like it here. Has a How-I-Met-Your-Mother feel. The Amaretto Sours are the best I've found around and they're only 3 bucks. Laid back place with a mixed demographic on any Saturday night. I've found that it becomes most lively around 11. Lot of standing space but there are tables as well. TVs scattered around the perimeter usually have games on. After partaking in Syracuse's "Wednesday Walk", this was our final destination for some discounted beverage and time to chat with fellow participants. The pub was dark but open with lots of open barstools and a plentiful tap selection. The bartender was friendly and engaging with us, although not overly so. She was happy to offer samples of beer prior to a final selection. We indulged in their Shandy option, Illusive Traveler Grapefruit. A lover of grapefruit-flavored beers and shandies, but never before trialed, the Traveler shocked me with both grapefruit yet authentic beer flavor (This comes in 2nd to my fav, the Stiegl Radler). There was a small sampling of some of their appetizers (free to Wed Walkers). The Buffalo Chicken Wing Dip was very tasty- salty, tad spicy, nice quality of chicken with tortilla chips. The other option was just a standard queso and tortilla chips, satisfying but not super special. An additional upside to The Clinton Street Pub was the offering of sport options on the TVs and an NFL package and something they call the shot wheel (free shot w Yelp Check-in FYI). It was awesome perfect for the wings. Yes the wings here were larger than normal and extremely filling. The sassy sauce with the wings were out of this world. My boyfriend and I ordered food from here for the first time, trying something new. He ordered the fish and chips which is catfish and potato wedges, with another side as well. For starters, he didn't even get his potato wedges and they told me I had to reorder them and pay for them AGAIN when I didn't even get them the first time. Nope. Why did I not receive a call to inquire if we wanted to make a change or order anything else? I'm not going to lie, this place is pretty fantastic. It was almost as if Syracuse was rolling out the red carpet for me, and let me explain. The music was absolutely banging, the drinks were pretty fantastic, and the general ambiance was just... perfect for what I needed it to be.
