There is no supervision or direction from the staff so kids run wild. In general, the staff are unorganized and aloof. We have also attended birthday parties here, and the staff are not attentive and rarely even present. The Zig Zag Zone is closed during the summer of 2013. We found out the hard way, as my son asked me to take him there for his first day of summer vacation. After checking their website to be sure it was open in the morning, we made the 25-minute trip there to find out it was closed for renovations over the summer. The owner was there and when I asked if the info about the closure is on their website, she said it was. Thinking maybe I missed it, I went back to my car and checked the site on my phone; nothing about the closure. In fact, it listed only open hours. I went back inside to tell the owner. I said I wasn't trying to be a jerk but their website said they were open and she scoffed and said, "I thought it was up there. I will tell Felicity." I don't know who Felicity is, but I was expecting at least an apology. I told her my son was disappointed and we had driven almost half an hour to get there, and she shrugged and said, "sorry." No real apology, no offer of a free pass. Clearly they don't value our future business and we won't be visiting again.

The Royal Plaza Trade Center is a large auditorium-like space that is gigantic, right off Route 20…read morein Marlborough. It is used for all sorts of large events, parties, shows, festivals and more. It's located right off I-495 and is roughly 50,000 square feet, so it's a huge auditorium. The only other spaces I can compare it to throughout the Massachusetts area are the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington and a few others I have been to years ago that forget. This specific auditorium has a wonderful set up, well off the major highway, with lots of parking, lots of well used space and a complete loading dock for events in need of that. The facility is well maintained and a perfect place to use for large events. Staff who manage it are wonderful and in general, they respond to concerns quickly and effectively. I helped host two conventions here and experiences that we had here were great. 5 stars for the Royal Plaza Trade Center.

Though the grounds are always open to visitors, guided tours of the house are only available June through mid-October, Thursday-Sunday from 11AM-3PM, every hour on the hour. Timed tickets can be purchased online in advance (and this is recommended). Adult admission is $20. Once I arrived, I was greeted by staff who were very friendly. The tour guide, MaryLou, took me through the house and explained the history of Henry Bowen (the original resident of the house) and his family. She was extremely knowledgeable and it was very interesting! The tour was supposed to last around an hour, but she went for about an hour and 15 minutes. After the tour you are free to roam the grounds and take photos, and there's also a small gift shop. Non-flash photography is allowed inside the house, but no video. Overall I found this to be a really beautiful historical spot in Woodstock, CT and would definitely recommend taking a tour!

Sadly on the rehearsal day and wedding day she was rude and did things that we did not agree upon or said she wasn't going to do. She made herself seem understanding up until those days. She gave me sass remarks and honestly made the rehearsal day and wedding day more stressful. The only thing that made it worth it, like I said, was the beautiful venue. But Laurie in the end did make things feel way more stressful and difficult. Our catering was wonderful though, I could not have asked to better catering. This is truly a very special and transformative place. I came into the weekend not knowing what to…read moreexpect, as this was my very first retreat. The owner, Jess, was amazing! We were all pampered from the moment we walked into the door. Her program for the weekend was so thoughtfully put together and her mindfulness coaching was extraordinary. In just a short time, I felt such a strong connection to the women at the retreat. We had the opportunity to do some fun, creative exercises as well as stroll around the gorgeous grounds where there is a beautiful Monet-esque pond, peaceful gardens and chickens roaming around. We also experienced an amazing sound healing with crystal bowls and many other instruments. It was such a peaceful, profound weekend that allowed me to take a break from all the chaos, relax and reconnect with myself. I have been doing the minfulness exercises Jess shared with us every day. The food was amazing and the accomodations were wonderful. Jess even brought in a massage therapist for us! I can't say enough about this magical place.

They opened a ticket and say it will not be resolved until another 3-5 business days, when we are supposed to be in town for this funeral in 3 days, leaving us in a situation that should not be in light of the circumstances. I've stayed at Marriotts before on the west coast that have been great, so this is very disappointing for a Marriott.

The Curriculum and Instruction Director drove our hotel and found 2 of our books randomly on file cabinet. She brought them back. Magically, in about an hour, the hotel called me having found our books. ... well 2 boxes worth. I requested that they drive the books over to us. They said, we can at 3. To which I said, well, the event is over at 3. She hymned and hawed. And so... I mention: OPENING MY PACKAGES IS A FEDERAL OFFENSE. Audible gasp. She brought the books over shortly there after ... Communication was a significant issue throughout the planning process. Dennis was often difficult to reach, and phone calls frequently went unanswered or were not returned in a timely manner. As a bride trying to coordinate an important event, this added unnecessary stress. I stayed at the property the night before the wedding so I could begin setting up. I was surprised that despite being present, the family appeared uninvolved and offered no assistance while preparations were underway. The interior of the home felt dated and had a noticeable mildew odor. As someone with allergies, I found it particularly uncomfortable. We were also told that the venue worked exclusively with a single caterer, leaving us with no flexibility in our catering choice. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, and several guests told us they were denied additional servings when they asked for seconds. That was especially disappointing and embarrassing on what should have been a joyful day. The garden is beautiful, but based on our overall experience with communication, accommodations, and catering, I would not choose this venue again.

Call ahead to make sure the Inn will be open - the Inn is closed sometimes in the winter and there might be nobody around. 2. I want to give a huge shout-out to an amazing employee at Southwick Zoo…read more Late Sunday afternoon, I got a flat tire near the zoo. My hybrid doesn't have a spare, and the tire inflator that came with the car wouldn't work. I was stuck and wasn't sure what I was going to do. A man named Ryan pulled over and offered to help. He told me he works at Southwick Zoo. He grabbed the jack and tools from his truck, took my tire off, plugged the hole, and put everything back together. When I offered to pay him for his time and kindness, he politely refused. In a world where we often hear about the negative, I think it's important to recognize people who go out of their way to help complete strangers. Ryan's generosity, skill, and willingness to stop and help made a stressful situation so much easier. Southwick Zoo should be proud to have someone like Ryan representing them. Thank you, Ryan, for reminding me that there are still genuinely good people in this world.

I had come here once before, so I was prepared to walk and came with a water bottle since it's a…read morebig zoo. I don't remember the entrance being as expensive as it was: $38 per person but as a AAA member we scored a $2 discount each. There were three free shows/ presentations going on that day, which were posted on a big dry erase board: bird show, sloth talk, and an earth discovery creature feature. We made 2 out of 3 of them. My favorite was the bird show where they brought out 6-8 unique birds and each of them did a trick for the crowd, all while the trainers gave us fun facts about them. They had bleacher seating so very comfortable show. At the end, they had one bird who could take your money (voluntarily) and put it into a box with its beak. The money was going towards a good cause, so I donated. The sloth talk was also cool. We got to hear interesting facts about sloths and watch the sloth eat their lunch. They were also doing a Frozen skit / play for the kids when we arrived and it was pretty good and kept the kids there engaged. They have a great selection of animals throughout the zoo including large ones like rhinos, giraffes, tigers, and lions but also smaller ones like pigeons, ravens, parakeets, and prairie dogs. I did not go on / into any, but they have an overhead lift you can ride, zip lining, and a maze (not free). There is also a petting and feeding area with goats. One thing I remember there being was a deer park but I think it was closed off this time which was a bummer. For the most part, the zoo is shaded. They also have gift shops, snacks/drinks, and bathrooms throughout the park. We spent about 2.5 hours there, but might've missed a couple animals. The staff is friendly and helped us find our way around. There is a map and it's pretty good but we were just running low on time to make it to one of the events.
