I've been a fan of "Ye Olde Curiosity Shop" for many years, especially to take visitors to see. It's a free fun museum in a shop. When you pay attention to the items, you'll find a bit of local history as well as what would have been extraordinary items. Consider the age and era, it's the equivalent of the days when folks went to the circus to see unusual animals and creatures from faraway lands. In the cases, other than the famous Sylvester and Sylvia, be sure to look for a hat of the Chief Seattle, the city's namesake. Animal creatures are at the front; the two headed pig is likely the most famous. Also put some change into the old mechanical "toys". My favorite is Estrella, the Gypsy Fortune Teller, where you actually get a fortune dispensed to you. Be sure to try some fudge. It's an excellent little treat. Otherwise, shop for an unusual trinket. I was very impressed with their vast collection of Harry Potter wands. Check them out. read more

Ye Olde Curiosity Shop has called the Seattle waterfront home since 1899. One cabinet holds a display of genuine shrunken heads, including the world's smallest and an actual shrunken head with torso. Shrunken heads are terrible and fascinating at the same time. Can you believe that headhunters ever existed? I can't imagine wanting to keep a dead person's head as a souvenir. One object... or person... you'll want to see is Sylvester. Sylvester is a mummy, and extraordinarily well-preserved. He was found in Arizona in 1895 and has been at Ye Olde Curiosity Shop since the fifties. That mustache though! You'll see things here you won't find anywhere else and it's actually FREE to get in. So don't miss the chance to say you've been there. Be prepared to see some pretty wacky stuff. It is a collection of old and new, unique and grotesque, filled with novelty and wonder. There is something for every age and if you look hard enough, you will see some pretty strange things scattered throughout the shop as well some collectible items that work well as souvenirs. It's a great place to bring friends or family from out of town. Bring quarters and play all of the things you can. Worth popping in if you're checking out waterfront. read more

There's a lot of weird things in here and it lived up to the name. A highlight for me is all the statues up front- they are all unique and while they are $10-$100 for small figures, are cute knick knacks. Would recommend coming here for your Seattle souvenirs. read more

Felt like an unique, old fashioned shop that meets dime museum. You will find many collectibles, knick knacks and souvenirs to choose from. You can enjoy free fudge samples while you shop. And also don't be alarmed by the mummies and shrunken heads in the back of the store. Definitely a different, but fun shopping experience. Never been in a store like it! read more

Fun shop for stuff no one actually needs other than a laugh. I does have actual curiosities but that coin operated cabinets from the past (so have some change). I haven't bought anything from the shop because it's stuff I would only buy as a joke present. Some of the stuff you can get elsewhere and isn't that special. But if your a tourist maybe you will pick up something crazy just to remember Seattle. read more

If you looking something out of the ordinary for souvenirs, this is the place to go. They have lots of weird things like, rocks, coins, fun toys, postcards, and the list can go on. Plus on the pier and close to other attractions nearby. Went here for a quick shopping while waiting for our cruise line. I like how this place have some nice artifacts and something you can never find at regular shop. If you have time, check it out. read more

Very nice gift shop! You go in and there's so much to see. It was neat and organized with things like souvenirs to odd animals in jars. There were a variety of penny press machines however they all were broken so that was a bummer but they were nice and gave me my money back. Also it was more pricier than most gift shops but definitely still a good stop to check out while in the area. read more

If my personality were to be a store.... This would be it. There are so many different, and interesting things in here. Some of the things that they have makes me wonder how on earth did they find this. This is definitely one of those tourist shops you can't bypass when you visit Seattle. It's right on the dock near the ferry so you can't miss it. If you like bizarre, and strange... This is the place for you. This shop is like a free little Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum. You wanna eat bugs? They have all sorts of insect candy. LOL They have real mummies, and shrunken heads. Double headed animals are everywhere btw. So don't freak out. Haha! In need of a gift? This is one quirky souvenir shop! And admittedly the only Seattle souvenir shop I've ever been in. Whenever my parents or my man's parents are in town, we always end up at Ye Olde Curiosity Shop. It's for their souvenirs, yes, but also for the weirdness that's inside. Shrunken heads, mummified parts, stuffed dead animals, all living along side walls full of Seattle-branded merchandise, gag gifts, toys, knick-knacks, and more. I'll admit, the front of the store is mostly the same Seattle souvenirs you can likely find all around the town at different shops. But don't give up. The back gets so weird, but in a good way. Also, I would anticipate lots of people inside this store at any given moment. I've never visited when it wasn't packed to the gills with tourists and locals alike. read more

A must visit for the curious and fans of nature's oddities...Ye Olde Curiosity Shop has a long history in Seattle. It's a museum (free admission) of the unusual crossed with a touristy gift shop. Founded in 1899, YOCS has been collecting interesting artifacts from around the world since its early days. Look up and see mounted animal heads (taxidermy). At the back of the shop you'll find a full sized mummy, shrunken heads and torsos, a freak pig in a jar, 2 headed lamb, old weapons, skulls, masks, and penny arcade machines (e.g., naughty movies, reenactment of a famous murder in Victorian England). The gift shop is far less interesting but you'll find scarves, cheap jewelry, postcards, keychains, tee-shirts, wallets, totem poles, candy, and knickknacks. The fudge counter seems out of place so close to the shrunken heads but it adds to YOCS's charm. read more

Ye Olde Curiosity Shop was the #1 thing on my "To Visit" list on my road trip up to Washington. I'd been aching to see the place since Kevin Smith's "Roadside Attractions" segment on Leno a decade ago. Seemed like none of the employees I spoke with remembered it, though. Granted they were young and mostly just knew about the shop's oddities. So yeah, before anything else, on getting into Seattle we took a short walk along the waterfront and piled on into this museum of wonders that's been around 115 years. I giddily floated from one thing to another. We returned again, at the end of the day before heading back to the car, to find the place a bit more deserted, which made looking at the things feel much less rushed. When there's a ton of people in the shop, it's difficult to take the time to look around. If you really want to get a nice long look at everything, I recommend coming in at night. Bought a brass lightswitch cover ($5?). The guy behind the counter said he was looking at those earlier that day, wondering what kind of a person would buy that, "And here you are!" he exclaimed. Yeah, I guess I'm so strange even a guy promoting the transmundane is weirded out by my purchase in his store. All in all, Ye Olde Curiosity Shop is roadside platinum, ladies and gentlemen. It's free to visit and it's fascinating. I'd say it's sort of a combination of San Francisco's Musee Mecanique (at least when it comes to ambiance) and the Venice Beach Freakshow. read more

Interesting tourist store. At first when you walk in it looks like just another tourist place in the Pike Market area but as you go further in it just gets bizarre. This place is what Ripley's Believe It Or Not should be doing! There are real mummies for your viewing pleasure as well as real shrunken human heads from tribes from South America. There is also a three headed infant pig in a preserving bottle. I am sure there are many other oddities to look at that we missed but the place is very popular with the tourists and those looking for something unusual. The place is crowded and is difficult to navigate around. It is worth a return trip for anything that may have been missed the first time around! read more

We stumbled upon Ye Olde Curiosity Shop while going to Elliot's Oyster house. It's a pretty big store with tons of things you never knew you wanted. There are even magnets here of every state so you don't have to go to each state to buy one. (Bong pointed that out to me). In addition to that, they also have fudge here, and they hand out free samples. Also inside near the door are maps as well as guidebooks with coupons in them to help you save money if you're touring Seattle. It's a fun place. read more

Quoting another review: "It's a pretty big store with tons of things you never knew you wanted." I actually visited this store three times while I was here. The prices at this shop are $2-$3 more than the other t-shirt/trinket shops 2 minutes away. However, this place is neat to stop by, because of the crazy exhibits. Make sure you look up at the ceiling and on the walls! I missed plenty of oddities the first time I visited because I just regarded it as a merchandise store. If anyone else watched "Ripley's Believe It or Not" years ago, all the exhibits there are in the same vein. Going once is enough though. Extra star beyond the average 3 stars because of the oddities and the friendly staff. read more

Why not heck it out even if it's once and never again! This place is exactly as the name describes a curiosity shop! There are also things in here that almost make this place a folk museum of sorts! I didn't buy anything but to look around was very weird and different and I appreciate art like that! They also had some animal art stuff and little gadgets and other things like that for sale. The most interesting thing to me honestly was the Native American artifacts they had! Other than that I can't complain I mean I chose to go here lol! read more

This definitely qualifies as a "curiosity shop", if only for the dehydrated mummies in the back. The stories posted about them are really interesting, but also, it's very creepy to see a literal dehydrated dead thing on the pier...I kind of loved it. The merchandise itself was very touristy. They had some great posters, and fun "gift" items that you wouldn't see everywhere. I was more interested in what they had hanging from the ceiling than what they were actually selling. This place had TWO jackalopes. As any respectable curiosity shop should. And the butterflies were lovely. read more

There are about a million things here you don't need yet about 10,000 that you'd buy if you had some money to waste. Seriously, shrunken heads, two headed animals, Mexican Jumping Beans, humorous signs, rocks, animals in jars, pens, trinkets, knick-knacks, and plain ol "junk." Great place to snap humorous pictures, test yourself on the "love meter," get your fortune read by a gypsy in a box, or pay a nickle to look at "dirty movies" from the 1920s. 2 headed cat fetus? Check. Mummies? Check. Many other animals with strange abnormalities? Check. Endless amounts of t-shirts, license plates, pens with Seattle and/or your name on it? Check. Lots and lots of tourists? Check. I love the curiosity shop. It's fun to wander, see creepy things and, if you're like me, who never owned an item with my name spelled on it as a child (because my name is spelled unconventionally), you buy a Washington license plate because you can finally own something with your name spelled correctly, it's a weird childhood thing. Definitely worth stopping in for a little randomness. read more

Originally, I thought it was just a museum, but as it turns out, it's a gift shop with some very interesting roadside attractions. Overall it's a cool place to look around and meander. I purchased some sea shells, and a grab and go box for about a dollar. They had other ones for about five dollars, but since I couldn't open them and the unknown, I grabbed the cheapest one. It had several sea shells inside, a iPhone case, a candy, and some random small piñata toys. Overall it was a great investment and my small boys had a fun time opening it. If I ever go back to ocean shores, I would stop by again. read more

The shop moved to a new location, but it's still in the general area. It's my favorite place to take my friends that are traveling from out of state. There's lots of stuff to look at and lots of interesting oddities. Definitely make sure you check this spot out, and visit Sylvester! read more

The items for sale are lovely, they have a great selection of jewelry and native carvings that I would have loved to buy- but the smell was so overpowering that I felt physically sick and was unable to stay more than five minutes. The shock of the human remains didn't help much- though I haven't seen a mummified body before so that may be why I was sensitive to them. A one time experience- I wouldn't go back. read more

Must stop at the Seattle Pier area (if you're in the area). Very interesting, unusual collection of artifacts in addition to a very unusual collection of souvenirs and outlandish gifts. I would not consider this a must do, stand alone tourist destination; however, meaning I would not bother coming into the area JUST for it. There is a free waterfront shuttle that runs most of the year that passes there. I would visit in conjunction with other attractions such as Pike's Place Market, the Space Needle area, the Pier area, a cruise and/or a Water Taxi ride across Puget Sound. read more

From the Business

Meet the Business Owner: Andy J.

Our business was started in 1899 and so we are 124 years olde this year! We are now operated by the fourth and fifth generation of the same family. In the beginning we were in large part an Indian trading post where local Native American artists and crafts people brought what they produced and sold to us on an almost daily basis. The owner, Joseph "Daddy" Standley believed in treating every one who walked through his door honestly and with respect. He had a sign in the window that said "Everyone Welcome". This was not necessarily the norm back then. To this day we still trade with local artists and purchase wooden totem poles, masks, plaques rattles, paddles, walking sticks and bowls. We also deal in jewelry, hand-woven baskets, drums, dream catchers, bead work, pipes, dolls and other works of art. We sell a large selection of jewelry from many countries. We have Helenite jewelry that is made from ash from the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens and set in Sterling Silver

Where are you going to find it cheaper? Walmart? They have a bunch of other fun little souvenirs as well. So thoughtful. The workers are pretty friendly despite being inundated with guests. They sometimes have featured beverage samples of coffee or tea so you can try before you commit to buying a whole bag of stuff.

I'm only talking $1-$1.5 difference, but when specialty cards usually start at $4-$5, that's a 20% price difference. Do with what you will. I still love to pick up some stationery everywhere I go, and Portage Bay Goods has a fantastic collection. The cards are fairly diverse in style and sense of humor, along with a nice array of cute and endearing cards. If you're looking for serious cards / letterpress / wedding-style paper, this is probably not the place for you (go check out Pike Street Letterpress!), but this is a great one-stop shop for all other stationery lovers.

At the time of purchase, I specifically asked about the return policy and was told that returning books would be "no problem" as long as they remained unopened in their original plastic wrapping. When I later returned to exchange or return three of the books 10 days later, I was told that I could not do so because I did not have my receipt. This requirement was never mentioned when I asked about returns. As a longtime member, my purchase is documented through my membership account, so it is disappointing that this record could not be used to verify the transaction. I find this level of customer service unacceptable. If a receipt is required for returns, customers should be clearly informed of that at the time of purchase, especially when they specifically ask about the return policy.

We were completely blown away by what we saw when we arrived at our appointed time to visit. The Spheres comprises a trio on connected glass domes, located in the center of Amazon-occupied office towers in Downtown Seattle. The Spheres opened in 2018 by Jeff Bezos for his employees. They are only open to the public for free on two Saturdays of each month. The structure was designed by American architecture firm NBBJ. They serve as an employee lounge and workspace. The Spheres are a fully functioning, self-contained ecosystem - a greenhouse with more than 40,000 different varieties of plants from all over the world. It is built on a concrete foundation, using 620 tons of steel. The structures are connected in an open-plan indoor area filled with numerous exotic plants. The most striking feature inside the Amazon Spheres is a 4,000 square foot Canyon Living Wall. It stands 62 feet tall and 50 feet wide. A path winds up four stories across a suspension bridge to a Bird's Nest meeting area. During the day the temperature inside is in the mid 70's with 60% humidity. At night, it drops to 55 degrees with 85% humidity. The highest of the three Amazon Spheres is 90-meters tall. The catalans at the Amazon Spheres contain an incredible 2,643 panels of glass, making the whole structure visible from the outside thus, creating a clear view on the inside. The parking lot for pickers is just north of the address on Yelp but they had plenty of signs that made it easy to find. You have to go down a gravel road to get there so keep that in mind if you don't want your car getting dirty. They had quite a few rows of strawberries for picking, and had 4 different varieties available. We also saw some apple trees where the apples were growing for picking in the fall and some peach trees. They also have veggies to pick but we didn't walk that far back. A lot of the strawberry plants had been pretty picked over but still had plenty of fruit if you pulled up the leaves and looked. We ended up picking about 3 lbs of fruit to take home. The fields are super dusty so make sure to wear sneakers you don't care about because they will get covered in dirt. We enjoyed a relaxing time picking berries and enjoying the beautiful views. I will definitely be back with my husband and daughter to enjoy picking some more fruit.

We visited Duris Strawberry Farm on the first day of strawberry picking (Jun 13, 2026) and it was a…read morecomplete madhouse. This was about 30 minutes after opening and the small parking lot was completely full. Cars were parked haphazardly all along the street, making it difficult for two way traffic (we had to drive on the grass). Luckily as soon as we pulled into the parking lot a car reversed out. Score! Picking is hectic but organized. They give boxes out at the main stall and have a flag system to mark how far down the row has been picked. The problem is that most people didn't actually use the flags. On the other hand, it's not like the rows were picked very well in the first place. We started at a random one in the middle and there were still plenty of huge and juicy ripe strawberries even on the first couple of plants. We ended up filling our entire box, weighing in at 8.25 pounds by around half way down the row. At $4.75 that was almost $40 in strawberries! The employees said that they would rotate to a second field of strawberries later in the day for more fresh picking. The strawberry variety of the day was Puget Crimson. Since this was the first day, the cream of the crop were still available, meaning huge, juicy, flavorful, ripe strawberries all over. Puget Crimson typically seen at farm stands and markets are medium and small size; these were massive, with the larger ones averaging over 35 grams a piece. Nicely sweet too - I measured a mash of five strawberries at 10.9 brix and a second at 12.1 brix! This particular variety has a decent amount of acidity, but are all full flavored, unlike the first pick of Sweet Sunrise I had a couple of weeks ago, which were huge but somewhat watery. They are deep red/crimson in color, especially for the extremely ripe ones, and mostly conical, although we found a small number of mutants, one looking like 4 or 5 strawberries fused together! Check out is easy. Pro-Tip: there are two checkout lines, one on each side of the stall. The line furthest away from the pathway to the strawberry fields seems to always be shorter. In my case, only 3 groups in line instead of 20+ groups. Warning: these strawberries are planted on top of very sandy dirt, which sticks to the strawberries. Even after soaked and scrubbing, dirt still sticks onto the skin! I will definitely be revisiting Duris Strawberry Farm next year for their first day of strawberry picking!

She said they have great produce so we stopped there on the way home along River road and I'm so glad we did. They had big juicy sweet strawberries picked today just like she said. It was a great tip so I'm paying it forward for anyone who is looking for strawberries. It's best to call them before you go since when they run out, they close and we barely made in time after a late lunch. They only had a few half flats of strawberries bu the time we got there. GPS got us there the back way but once we found it, I have to say it's very easy to find.

Similar to the Varsity Theater in University District, Majestic Bay Theatres also offer $6 movies all day on Tuesday. Varsity offers that every day, but the Majestic Bay is eons cleaner, has nicer movie screen and sound, and the seat more comfortable than Varsity and I thought it was worth every penny. I went to go watch Mean Girls at 4 pm yesterday. Seems like everybody knows about the Tuesday deal so the 7 pm show was sold out, but there were plenty of seats left for the 4 pm show for obvious reasons. It looks like they only show three movies at a time, and I don't know how often they get new movies, but I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the Tuesday deal more often. Also one thing to note for myself mostly - aisle C was a bit too close to the screen so I recommend sitting around aisle E.
