I have driven by this place since the 80s when it was the Buck Tavern and never stopped, always in a hurry to get to and from the shore.

This is a gem of a spot in West Reading. It was our first time in West Reading in general but it will not be our last and certainly will not be our last of the Distilled Whiskey room. I love everything from the exposed brick and docorations, to the service, menu opitions, delicious food and decent prices! Our server Marissa, was more like our friend. The service was absolutely outstanding. Super friendly, attentive, very knowledgeable about the products whiskey, wine beer and food. Marissa is absolutely delightful!!! I hope she is there when we return. The menus are impressive and are wondeully labeled for pairing options. We tried the 8th ward, bastille sour, orange tumbler and the jack Johnson in regards to the whiskey options. They were all fantastic!! The candied cherries are absolutely delicious I requested extra. The food is delicious as well. You must sample the candied bacon if you are a fan of bacon it literally melts in your mouth. The cheesesteak egg rolls, ranch pretzels and duck fat fries with garlic aoli sauce were the perfect small plates we needed! I also tried a very delicious Italian wine off the menu recommended by Marissa and it was great!! We need to go back again so we can try more an we cannot wait!! I would seriously give this place 10 stars if I could. Definitely a place worth going to, prices are not bad and you will definitely want to make multiple trips to try everything you would want.

We finally got…read moreto visit last night after having dinner at the restaurant you must go through in order to enter the Lounge because it's speakeasy style. We entered through the wall of the restaurant and walked right into the cute bar area of the lounge (3 bar seats). The energy was buzzing and there were others laughing and talking so we slipped right into a table and go comfy. Kayla greeted us minutes after we settled in and brought over menus and water. She let us take our time deciding on cocktails and we were glad she did because the menu is extensive. 2 pages of specialty cocktails and countless pages of over 200 different whiskeys! I decided on a gin based cocktail called a BIJOU and the man decided on an Old Fashioned. Kayla wanted to ensure we thoroughly enjoyed our drinks so she shared that we were able to change the type of whiskey and gin if we wanted. Both cocktails were DELICIOUS and absolutely "spirited"! Kayla is such an amazing mixologist and she was also the only employee in the lounge so she was mixing drinks, seating people, answering questions and doing so seamlessly and with a smile. We will definitely be back and will be sure to bring friends anytime they're in town because this place is such a gem.

(It's across the bar, hidden door lol). But Kayla the bartender is very knowledgeable, friendly and great. The Paper Plane cocktail was really good. It's such a nice space. I'm glad they let non-members like me in. Haha Thanks for a relaxing night!

Sat relatively fast and our server (forget his name) gave us a heads up that the kitchen was behind. We ordered then expecting to wait but the food came out very fast. Everyones meals were excellent, from the pork belly appetizer, burgers, seared fish sandwich, huuge hot dog, and nachos. Our server was very attentive and got us everything we needed quickly. Overall a very good experience and would go again when in town.

I only had the one I paid for. There's no need to lie, bad days happen. This is not a speakeasy, this is a restaurant cosplaying as a speakeasy. That may be a bit harsh, it's a speakeasy in training. Sure, it's got all of the speakeasy decor, blackout curtains over the windows and doors, and a big selection of pedestrian liquor but it's not quite there. We went in on an early evening on Wed and there were maybe 5 other patrons in there. Our waitress was nice and brought us water to the high top. She brought us two food menus, and a specials menu. I asked for a bourbon list and she brought it; no prices on the list. Annoying. On the specials menu there was a small section of manager recommended drinks and one was a Willet. The way it was written was confusing because it said it was both a 4 year and 14 year for $52, so I asked for clarification on the age statement. She took the menu to the barkeep, who confirmed it was a 14 year so I said yes I'll have that. A drink was brought to me, but I could tell from the taste that it was not what I ordered. I asked the waitress for the bottle, she asked the guy behind the bar for the bottle and he pulled down a willet pot still bottle (pot still is the entry level Willet and at best a 5 dollar pour, no where near what I asked for). I told her that I was given the wrong drink, then she approached the bar and between her, and the male and female bartenders they had a weird back and forth conversation. Then, finally they pulled down the bottle that I asked for, that was advertised, and gave me a pour of it. I asked to see the bottle and the waitress brought it over but held it instead of putting it on the table (it was a 13 year Willet, Paper Trail). As we were about to order we were told that they reset the menu the very day before, with the focus of putting more love and care into the food. Feeling good about that, we ordered the French quarter catfish and the bourbon braised short ribs. The corn that came with the short ribs tasted straight out of a store bought steamable pouch, and the "ribs" weren't ribs at all, just sliced meat. The only redeemable thing about the catfish dish was the aioli; the rice had no flavor, the corn was cold and hard, and the catfish was mostly breading. We both took a few bites and resigned. I have been to many speakeasies around the US, and there are common themes: a much better selection of liquor; 95% of the bourbon were low tier bottles you can find in any liquor store for around $50. Also, when customers ask for the bottle, it isn't because we plan to steal it or drink from it, its because we're genuinely interested in the information on the labels. The quickest way to get people to stop spending money is to make them feel as if they can't be trusted touching a bottle. Perhaps it was an off day for the staff and this wasn't a typical experience, but I won't go back.

I visited for lunch during Restaurant Week, which I enjoyed because of its close proximity to the corporate hub in Center City where I work and for its solid menu. I was seated quickly at a high-top for my noon reservation. The restaurant is much larger inside than it looks, split in half with the left providing an upscale bar aesthetic while the right presents a quieter, modern lounge feel. (It seemed like service staff was directing those with previously-booked OpenTable RSVPs to the lounge side.) Service was great, as my waitress continuously checked in during my meal even as more customers arrived throughout the lunch period. I appreciated being offered to add fries on my burger order, as Village Whiskey didn't have it automatically added on the RW menu. The only drawback was she forgot to ask how I wanted my burger cooked, but it came out medium rare which is the way I eat it regardless. I trust that's how they default, which is a good sign. The Food Breakdown: Deviled Eggs (4/5) - Classic, solid, and a good starter. I honestly selected it since the other appetizer options didn't really appeal to me, but nothing spectacular or negative about it. Four comes with each order. All-American Burger (5/5) - Fantastic. I'm not a pickle enjoyer, but the acidity just blended into each juicy bite. The jam had a slight kick, and you can taste the fattiness within the double Wagyu smash patties. High-quality all around and a solid portion size. Duck Fat Fries (4/5) - They were well-seasoned, and each order comes with a small side of ketchup. Granted I didn't ask, but I almost wish they offered a spicy mayo instead because it would complement the crunchiness better. Overall, the food quality and taste were superb. My only caveat was the price, knowing that $35 after tax and gratuity for lunch (without an additional drink) is costly. I wouldn't be able to come everyday, but it certainly has my vote for sharing with others the destination that has an immaculate burger.
