I was so bummed when the actual storefront closed, but I will say the sweet vault which is filled with their treats is a decent substitute and a unique experience in Erie. The prices are a bit steep, but quality of items definitely makes it worth it. The actual interface could use some tweaking. Which I'm surprised hasn't been updated and they've been open for a while now. It feels glitchy and any descriptions are lacking. Their fb page is usually updated, but it would be nice to see it on the order screen vs having to also look online. We stopped at the sweet aunt on my birthday to get some cupcakes, and they did not disappoint! The shop has limited hours, but the "vault" is like a vending machine for different treats of theirs including macaroons, cupcakes, cake pops, cheesecake on a stick, and even some gluten free goods and is always open and restocked daily! (Dangerous that it's next door to my gym, haha!) the shop is also decorated very cute, in a nice area, and I think their branding is adorable! We just got the assorted cupcakes to get a range of different options, and they were amazing! I think my favorite was the vanilla cookie dough cupcake, but it was so hard to pick - I really liked them all, and that's saying a lot as I'm not too big on sweets like this! They were so satisfying. One of my favorite things about icing on the lake is the businesses relationship and communication with the community and their customers, if you have facebook, definitely check out their Facebook page! I went first thing in the morning before we drove over to Niagara. These ladies are SO NICE. I cannot stress enough how awesome it is to walk into bright smiling faces. Short review but anything from this bakery is amazing! I've had the cupcakes (my favorite was the vanilla one and I'm normally a chocolate person), cookies (amazing!) and the cream puffs that typically are sold out if you don't call ahead to reserve one. I'd say the cream puffs are really the thing you have to try if you only can choose one thing because of it's size, good price, and it's perfect for any weather! You'll enjoy whatever you get here regardless so definitely stop by! The parking is super easy since it's in a plaza with a spacious lot and the staff are super nice! COVID precautions are being taken with social distancing, limiting people inside, and contactless payments/sanitizing. I am a huge fan of trying out all the bakeries in the area when I go on vacation. In my opinion, this adorable little spot hands down takes the cake for best bakery in Erie. I visited on a Saturday morning and the bakery was booming. The little shop was full of people picking up orders and trying to place new ones. However despite the rush, service was very fast and the displays were full. I managed to slip in and out within 10 minutes. Their main specialty seems to be cakes, although they had alot more to offer such as macroons, cookies, and cake pops. I only tried a cupcake but everything looked amazing. Some cupcake flavors they had were triple chocolate, blueberry, strawberry fields, and the classic chocolate and vanilla. While I was a bit bummed they did not have coffee on the menu, my disappointment turned into excitement when I noticed they sold vegan cupcakes. And let me tell you, it was THE BEST VEGAN CUPCAKE I have ever had! In my experience, most times vegan cupcakes tend to be very dry and crumbly. But not this one! It was extremely moist and barely any crumbs, (which my car was thankful for since I couldn't wait to get home to try it.) Such a fabulous and charming bakery! We ordered a cake for my moms birthday last minute this morning (wooops) and they were more than happy to prepare one for us by the afternoon! The inside has a vintage feel and the ladies working were extremely kind! I still can't express how appreciative I am that they were able to whip up a cake in such a short amount of time. We ordered a chocolate peanut butter cake and it was delicious. The chocolate cake was moist and light and the icing wasn't too sweet, which was perfect! We got a cake that feeds around 12 people and it cost $42. I am so hyped they have so many gluten free goodies! And the best part, they taste fantastic! Gluten free brownies are usually pretty good, you can mask any taste with tons of chocolate. These are legit delicious. But what I really want to talk about are the sugar cookies. I REALLY miss a good, moist and non-crunchy sugar cookie. So trying various gluten free ones I was pretty bummed that most were hard and bland. Theirs are the opposite! Plus the icing was just perfect whipped perfection. Everything was so beautiful too. I've been wanting to go and try this place for a while and I finally got around to it. They do close a little early during the week but their cupcakes make up for it. The icing is not too sugary and just the right amount. The cupcake itself is moist. They could be a little more moist (I prefer them to be the kind where they're tacky on the fingertips) but considering I bought pre-made I understand how the moisture would fade overtime. The lemon cupcake had just the right amount of lemon flavor. The jelly inside had the most lemon flavor which balanced with the lemon flavored icing which had a hint of lemon to it. Normally when you think of lemon my mind goes to lemon squares with that overzealous lemon flavor that just fills your whole mouth. These lemon cupcakes were not like that. They were perfectly balanced and gave you just enough lemon flavor to satisfy any lemon craving. The vanilla cupcake was similar to the level of the lemon cupcake but without the filling. Most of the vanilla flavoring was in the icing. Both macaroons had a crunchy outside and a decently chewy inside with the right amount of cream filling with each part being perfectly balanced with the other. The flavors again, were not overly intoxicating and gave you just the right amount to satisfy that flavor craving. Normally, I don't like too many sugary treats, they tends to make me nauseous. So for these treats to be as balanced as they were, I could have 2 and be satisfied (normally I'm a mini cupcake eater one at a time only please ), so for those who like sugary treats you could probably eat half a dozen and not get sick. read more

I actually liked the cake part of my cupcakes more than that from Georgetown Cupcakes. My favorite was the strawberry fields cupcake - probably best cupcake in Erie! I tried the Earl Grey cupcake and I was pleasantly surprised to see how flavorful a cupcake could be! I was initially apprehensive to try it, but I'm so glad I did! This is a gem of a find in Erie, PA. The good folks of this town have an amazing option for cupcakes, cookies, and sweet treats. The staff are always very friendly and willing to explain exactly what they have available. The selection varies with the season but the best selling favorites are always there. I recommend the espresso chocolate cookie but if you are feeling really indulgent be sure to go for the cheesecake on a stick which is hand-dipped in chocolate. I am an avid cupcake eater, and I've eaten my fair share of cupcakes. The cupcakes here are pretty expensive, and I am not sure if they're worth the price. There was't a big variety of cupcake flavors, and although the flavor changes daily, I wish there were more options on an every day basis. The cakes were not exceptionally moist or anything special. I must admit I do enjoy their frosting - it wasn't too overpowering, and I didn't have to scrape some off like I do with Sprinkles. I have also tried their cookies, and macarons. The macarons are ridiculously overpriced, and I am from California. I know overpriced. I bought one anyways to test it out, and I was definitely disappointed. The macaron was overly sweet, and it wasn't even aesthetically pleasing. I do not recommend them at all. Overall, this bakery is pretty good for Erie - just not up to par with what I'm used too. My friends have been talking about Icing on the Lake since they moved from Pittsburgh to Erie but this was the first chance I had to check it out. Loved it! We left with six cupcakes (2 vanilla/vanilla, 2 lemon blueberry explosion, a salted caramel. and a red velvet) they were ALL Amazing. The Salted Caramel was hands down the best salted caramel cupcake I have ever tasted. This is a chocolate cupcake with caramel filling (made on site) and a salty caramel butter cream frosting on top. The lemon blueberry explosion was also fucking delicious. This is a cute little bakery after the first bite you can tell the cupcakes are made in small batches with ingredients of the highest quality. Disregarded the 3 star reviews I didn't try the macrons because this place is called Icing on the Lake so I figured they did cake. A friend from Erie brought these to a backyard bbq at our host/friend's home in Cleveland heights. Wow, delicious. She brought like 2 dozen, she's a true cupcake afficianado, I think she judt wanted to share something delish. I had half a cookiedough frosted one, it was vanilla cake. I've never had more amazing cupcakes in my life! My husband I have probably tried every cupcake on their menu, and every time they come up with a new one we seem to be delighted each and every time. Because we love their cupcakes so much, we chose to have them do a cupcake tower for us for our wedding, with a small cake on top just for us. It was absolutely beautiful and more delicious than I expected. Our guests were all very happy with the flavors that they had (we'd chosen funfetti, OMG, peanut butter, blue moon, caramel apple, pumpkin, and cookie dough delight). They have many, many different flavors, which is one of my favorite aspects of Icing on the Lake! They change daily and seasonally. I'm a cupcake fanatic so I eat cupcakes often. I was excited to see a cute cupcake place like you see on the food network, so I was excited to try it out. We don't eat sweets very often, but when we do, this is the place to go. They've made several birthday cakes for us, always very tasty and perfectly decorated. My husband loves their cookies, but I'm partial to their macarons which are full of flavour and melt in your mouth, just as they should.
