Recently had a terrible experience with this company. Tried to do the responsible thing while out on the town and decided to take a cab instead of driving. Next morning when I checked the charge on my credit card, it was $200!! The ride could not have cost more than $40 or maybe $50. So I called to request more info as to why it was this high, but apparently the woman that handles billing questions wasn't in the office yet, so I left my contact info, and have yet to here back. I hate Yellow Cab with every ounce of my being. I have had so many bad experiences with them downtown that I now would rather either skip going downtown or take a chance driving home. And this is the major problem now this is not just a Yellow Cab issue it is an Austin issue. We have one of the largest entertainment areas compacted into a few city blocks but yet it is next to impossible to get a cab home on a busy night, and no adequate public transportation option to fall back on. I will share just one of my stories with yellow cab. Me and 2 friends caught a cab downtown, but when it came time to leave I used the mobile app to schedule a pickup for 12:45 am at Rio Rita. I placed this order about 12 because I knew it would take them awhile to get there. So we pay our tab and sit outside about 12:40 and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... I finally call them about 1 and they give me the same BS they always do that I am on the list or I will be the next person. Long story short we got stuck sitting outside Rio Rita til 3 am when I was finally able to wake a friend up to drive down and pick us up. Needless to say I will never use them for weekend service again. The worst part about it was when I called the next day with my order number to complain I get transferred to a voicemail that never returned my call. The only reason I give them 2 stars is because they are on point outside of peak time and the mobile page is convenient and easy to use. Otherwise do not trust them to take you anywhere when its a weekend or event. read more

On the plus side: 1) They're GPS dispatched so when you finally get through to a dispatcher, you get the closest cab. 2) Frequently they remember the last pick-up location so the automated voice system will ask you if you want to be picked up there again and you don't have to wait to talk to a dispatcher. On the down side: 1) I would say 75% of the cabs I take smell like smoke. 2) The hold times can get ridiculous 3) Almost always, drivers are a pain in the rear about accepting credit cards. I take 3 or 4 cabs a week, it would be great to have a reliable service with clean cars and no cc hassles. read more

I think the only way this cab company stays in business is that they don't have any real competition. You can never find them when you need them, and even when you call them, there is no guarantee a cab is coming to pick you up, even if they say one will. I've had bad experiences with them in the past, but I was only recently reminded of how much they suck when I locked my keys in my car last week. I called them to unlock my car, they told me someone was on their way, waited an hour for someone to come, called again, waited another half hour, then a driver finally called me. I couldn't understand what he was saying, but he refused to repeat himself, and instead became rude and angry, and hung up before I was finished talking. I finally called popalock who made it there in 15 mins, and told the yellow cab driver not to bother. Seriously, I'm going to give someone $45 for under two minutes of work, and no one was willing to come to a very central & easily accessible location? That's practically free money. While the phone operators were nice, the overall experience sucked, and I definitely would not use them again. read more

Having just moved from Chicago, I guess you can classify me as one who is well versed in cabs, seeing that they were my #2 mode of transportation in my past life. With that being said, I had to "slightly" adjust my expectations for the whole cab process here in Austin, namely, the fact that if I don't live downtown, I can't merely walk out to S. Lamar and wave my hand to get a cab. Very odd, but I learned the hard way. At least I looked like a friendly person waving to drivers. Although I adjusted my expectations quite a bit, there are still consistent problems that I experience. I'll start by saying a positive thing. If anyone has been in cabs in major cities, you will agree with me that these cabs are probably the cleanest and nicest cabs I've ever been in. And the positives end here with Yellow Cab. I live in an apartment complex that isn't difficult to find. As a matter of fact, it's a pretty obvious building on S. Lamar. So why I've had four incidents with cabs not being able to find my building just blows my mind. No, the main entrance to my building isn't on Lamar, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Second, when (more so like IF) my ordered cab arrives, due to where my apartment unit is in relation to the main entrance, it takes me a good 3-5 minutes after the automated arrival message to get downstairs. And I have REPEATEDLY told the operator this. Don't tell me that "I didn't show up" when I was still trying to make my way down in the elevator. Third, and most aggravating, are the no shows. I've had three occasions where I had to move dinner reservations because my cab never showed up (after making cab reservations anywhere from a few hours to a day in advance). I don't trust them one bit for heading to the airport (Amanda H. - I highly recommend Super Shuttle). The no show last night aggravated me the most, seeing that I made the reservation early in the morning (well in advance) and I had a friend visiting from out of town. When I finally got through to the dispatcher after being on hold for forever, she told me that they were held up because of the music festival. Another rocket science moment: shouldn't people with reservations be given priority over random people these cabbies are picking up on the street? Just saying. But I must say, having dinner at 9:30pm because my cab didn't show up was quite awesome. Yes, you're sensing sarcasm. read more

Frankly the more I use Yellow Cab, the more I hate them. Or, rather, I hate their call center. I've been told by the cab drivers that the call center makes no money off the fares (the cabbies are independent contractors and rent the taxi cars), so they intentionally never schedule enough employees to handle the call volume in order to save money. Seriously, it should not take 5+ tries just to get onto the hold line, then hold for another 15 minutes. They almost completely refuse to communicate with the cab drivers and are generally pretty rude. My last straw was when I accidentally left my iPhone 4 in the cab that took us home. I realized I'd left it right as the cab was speeding away, and called the call center immediately, but they could not tell me who the taxi was and apparently it was impossible to call any of them to send him back. Suffice it to say, my iPhone was never seen again. Cabs are often given incorrect addresses/phone numbers by the call center. The call center will always tell you 20 minutes when in reality they could mean more than an hour. Seriously, those folks suck. Like I said, I use these guys out of necessity. Lone Star Taxi and Austin Taxi always have busy signals when I try to call. read more

Today a Yellow Cab - #127 - turned right from Lavaca St onto 2nd St from the left lane, through the red light on Lavaca and in front of me, nearly hitting a pedestrian and a bicyclist on crossing the street. The driver had his hazzard lights on and was driving erratically. I called Yellow Cab and let them know and the dispatcher wouldn't take any of the info down. I have been using Yellow Cab for 1.5 years for my weekly flights out of Austin both to and from the airport. I will not be doing that anymore. Unprofessionalism, illegal, and dangerous... I called Yellow Cab a day before to schedule an early AM pickup for a ride from downtown Austin to AUS airport. When the cab did not show up at the scheduled time I called & spoke with the dispatcher who said they will have someone sent ASAP. 25 minutes later I call Yellow Cab stating that no cab had arrived, the dispatcher said that they were still working on sending a cab. This was unacceptable as I would be late for my flight if I kept waiting on Yellow Cab. I called Austin Cab Company 512-478-2222, they quoted 30 minutes until pickup & they had a driver there in 15 minutes! Austin Cab Company saved the day! read more

I'm still wary of Yellow Cab,.... I've missed too many flights and paced around on hold countless times with that fucking automated zombie-man telling me I'm pretty much screwed and that my cab is never coming. But, damnit, Yellow Cab actually came through for me this weekend... Twice. All because of the HailACab app... It's GPS enabled so you can see exactly where your cab is. There is a fare estimator so you're not caught with your pants down when it comes time to pay. Even the cab drivers were nicer this time. I don't know if it was just a lucky break or if they really improved since the last time I even attempted to use them but I was impressed. I was in Austin over the Labor Day weekend. We took a lot of cabs, and I have to say we really never waited more than 5 minutes to get one. All of the driver's we encountered were mostly nice, although not really helpful on finding places to go to. Well, I take that back, because we did get a few good suggestions from one driver. I've come to learn that cab driver's are the least knowledgeable about places to visit. That's cool, fool, I'm just paying them to get me from point A to point B safely. My only complaint is some of the cabs we were in were so filthy. I felt like I needed a tetanus shot after a few of them. read more

We were debating between a cab or super shuttle for an early morning flight on December 24th. we decided to go with a cab, and i'm glad we did. I arranged for the cab via the web a few days early. This was probably a mistake because at 4:20am the following morning, we had someone knocking on our door. A dispatcher called us and i could only blurt out in my disheveled state "its for the 24th!" and hung up as i heard the person apologizing. But at least someone showed up on time! The morning of our flight, no one had shown up by 4:30 so i called the company. Of course, our "order" was gone from the system, and in our rush to pack, we had forgotten to confirm this despite our suspicions. Fortunately however, the company had a driver out to pick us up within 10 minutes, someone who was courteous and had a clean car and got us to the airport before 5. The ride for 2 with tip was still less than the price for 2 on super-shuttle. I won't hesitate to use this company again, though will probably just call or arrange for service the day of. read more

Horrible. Which is quite surprising since they were on the brink of obsolescence when Uber and Lyft were here. Unprofessional drivers who take the long way to charge you more money, rude dispatch, and most of their cabs are NASTY with stains on the seats/seatbelts. Bleh. That's what I have to say about yellow can I live in pflugerville right off of I35. I called a cab Saturday night to go to my birthday party, and gave up on a cab after waiting an entire hour. I called 3 different times, and each time they would say, just 10 more minutes! The last time I called, the operator put me on hold to look into it. After a minute on hold, I decided that I was just going to cancel my cab and have a friend pick me up. I waited on hold for another 6 minutes before just hanging up and giving up on them completely. Agreed. The cab I rode in was FILTHY. I called yellow cab because I thought they were a good name brand. I mean I see them all around town and in other cities and have even ridden in them before. I believe this was Cab # 1001 though the numbers seem to be peeled off so I cannot tell. The trunk of the Van I rode in was filled with junk...like greasy wd40 containers and old rags... I actually didnt want him to put my luggage back there and get it dirty. The interior made my skin crawl. Stains and dirt everywhere. Wipe this thing down! They make wet naps for cars, it only takes a few minutes. If you are waiting on someone to come out of a building, use that time to clean. By far the filthiest cab Ive ever been in. You would think if your profession was to drive people around all day, you would: 1. Clean your vehicle 2. Have a GPS 3. My friend and I were out and while I offered to call us an Uber, she wanted to test out her new Yellow Cab App. I informed her that after my last issue with Yellow Cab (See previous review) I no longer used their company. She insisted and I was curious so we "hailed a cab". Guess what? Even they're app says that a ride is not guaranteed but hey, at least the app says a ride is not guaranteed and the fare estimator was a joke! I had a 9:15 am doctor appointment last Friday 3/09/2012. I called Yellow Cab at 8:30 am. I have been using them for over three years now since I can not drive anymore due to being visually impaired. The cab usually arrives within 10 minutes. At 8:55 am I called and was on hold for 5 minutes. they said cab is on the way. 9:10 and no cab. I call again and dispatcher was rude and said we are busy and no cab was dispatched. I asked what about the cab that you said was on the way. She said I don't know anything about that and it should be there soon. My doctor's office calls and is angry since I just missed my appointment and they charged me $35.00 for the missed appointment. A friend from our building walks by and happily gives me a ride to my rescheduled appointment. Yellow Cab calls me at 10:10 and said they are there to pick me up. 3/11/2012 11 pm. I call to schedule a pickup for 4:15 am Monday 3/12/2012. I call at 4:10am to check status. I am on hold until 4:25 then sent to voice mail for a David Bennett. I call right back and at 4:35am get an operator that said they were busy and I only called at 11pm yesterday to reserve the cab. She said they had o idea when a cab would ever arrive. Luckily I always have plan B and was able to get my brother to the airport on time for his flight out of town. Bottom line is that Austin Yellow Cab sucks. Poor customer service that is also rude, and unprofessional. Most drivers have been okay. Some have been friendly over the last three years. What a pathetic company. read more

Like this place needs another bad review.. .but maybe I'll feel better if I give one. I was on CapMetro and due to a detour I didn't know about the driver goes nowhere near here I needed to be. So I get off at the next stop, which happens to be on 1-35 in front of what appears to be a strip joint. I call yellow cab once and get nothing but busy signal and automated voice telling me to wait for 10 mins. I call back a few mins later and a lady picks up. I try to explain that I don't know an exact physical address but tell her what I'm near (its 2013... is it that hard to pull up google maps and figure it out?) She hangs up on me. I can back again and the call is picked up then immediately dropped. I ended up just walking the 1.5 miles down I-35 to get where I needed to be. Tonight I needed a cab back home. Couldn't get anyone, however the people I was standing with had just filled out a service request. 45 mins later and a couple phone calls later a nice man I'd just met flags down a cop and begs him to take me and the baby home since the cab STILL wasn't there. read more

I travel frequently and I always call Yellow Cab to take me to the airport. I schedule a time for pick up and they usually arrive early. Never have they arrived more than a few minutes after my scheduled pick up time. Both of the 1-star reviews are from people using Yellow Cab at night. My trips to the airport are always during the day. I never take cabs at night other than to get home from the airport. Overall, the cabs are clean and the drivers are friendly. I'm usually running late and most drivers will do their best to get me to the airport quickly. One Yellow cab driver actually told me not to tip him, that they make enough money off the fare. That was before the gas prices went crazy, though, so I'm not sure how that guy feels about tips now. I prefer Yellow Cab over the other cab companies in town. read more

I have to admit I've had my irritating moments with Yellow Cab - however they redeemed themselves last Saturday night with one very nice driver named "Jazz". Jazz picked us up at our house in South Austin and drove us downtown. My roommate, who had already imbibed enough alcohol for the four of us before we left the house, started asking him a slew of embarrassing questions but he rolled with the punches and got us to our destination safely and aching from laughing so much. As everyone knows getting a cab to downtown on a weekend night isn't so hard, it's trying to get one back home thats the major pain. So, we asked Jazz if he could pick us up at 2:15am at a specified destination. He agreed with the one request that we call him 15 minutes ahead of time. We did and to my amazement he showed up! I'm sure there are a lot of creepy, crappy and overall disenchanting Yellow Cab drivers in Austin but Jazz isn't one of them. Three stars for Yellow Cab for actually making me happy for once. read more

I really like the on-line system. I was able to check the fare for various destinations in advance and I was able to pre-schedule my pickup. The cab arrived 5 minutes early. The car was clean and the driver was friendly, but it was incredibly hot in the back of the van. The driver offered to turn on the air, but it takes a long time to cool off, and it's not like he didn't KNOW there were going to be people sweltering in the back seat. I had never been to our destination before, so I was using Google maps on my phone to give him directions. I didn't mind this, but it does strike me as strange. I generally expect cab drivers to know their way around as well as pizza drivers. But then, I'm not used to the BIG CITY. Nobody can know where everything is in a BIG CITY. But it seems that a BIG CITY cab driver, of all people, would have some sort of mapping device in this day and age. Which brings me to part two of the review. The return trip cab driver. So now it's 2am on a Saturday. I'm standing outside a bar trying to cheer up the requisite Random Crying Girl while calling for the cab. The hold time was shorter than expected and I was surprised when they said it would be about 15 minutes. Really? At closing time on a Saturday?! Groovy! Maybe my sense of timing was distorted by that last Dammit Janet! (best bartender-made-up drink EVER), but it really seemed like only 10 minutes. So everyone was happy and I'm babbling drunk in the back seat when I looked up and noticed, 'Hey, aren't we going the wrong way!?' It seems that this driver ALSO did not have a mapping device. We ended up going quite a bit out of our way, which of course added quite a bit to the fare. The driver was apologetic about the mistake, but he did not offer to deduct anything from the fare. I was tempted to reduce the tip accordingly, but I didn't because I don't know how the independent contracts work for this company and I didn't want him having to pay for an innocent mistake. Driving a cab is not the best job in the world, working for tips sucks, and I was feeling pretty good from the Dammit Janet! extravaganza. So I wrote it up to the price you pay to get home safely. (I guess some people in this situation might suspect that the BIG CITY cab driver was taking advantage of us by going the long way on purpose because that's what they do in the BIG CITY, but I think life is too short to go around every day thinking the worst of people). So, 3 stars for being clean, friendly, and not-at-all scary. Loss of 2 points for the hot van and getting lost. So I will use them again, but I also WILL do my impression of Holly Hunter in Broadcast News, where she gives every cab driver explicit instructions on the best route to take ('cuz she knows how to handle herself in the BIG CITY). read more

Up until today I had been a regular customer of Yellow cab. But today was the last straw. I am at home, changed out of drenched clothes, and not at a one-time appointment that could not be rescheduled (if not there on time, no point in being there). This despite ordering the cab online in advance with a pickup time that should have gotten me there at least a half hour early even with the rainy day traffic. They've been late before but this comedy of incompetency was laughable -- if not so frustrating. The online ordering allows you to select "Home" and use an address you've saved -- something I've done dozens of times before. But both cabs went to the wrong address. The first cab kept going to the wrong buildings in another complex. I could see them but not flag them down or get to them before they moved on. Despite multiple calls, the call center did not pass my # on to the driver, they just (eventually!) opted to send another cab. I tried calling other cab companies but because of the rain they couldn't get anyone out to me until after the appointment start time. Cab #2 called 10 minutes before the start time... saying he was outside Building B -- My complex uses numbers for buildings, not letters. Out of the last 10 times I've ordered a taxi from Yellow Cab online to pick me up at home (where I can put instructions like, "go through the gates, 2nd bldg on left'), only 2 have been on time, and all the rest have required 1-2 or more calls to check on status. They aren't the only cab company in town, so there's no point in giving them more business. read more

There are bad people everywhere, not just in cabs. For the most part Yellow cab provides a great service and has almost always done a good job for me. During peek demand periods expect delays. You are no more entitled than anyone else. Quit calling the company or using the app. I have three drivers cell phone numbers who I trust and call them directly. If one can't make it another usually can. If you have a driver take good care of you tip as being appreciative, or never see that "GOOD" driver again. If yours is a short trip, tip big, these guys are paying $3.50 for a gallon of gas, and there time is worth every bit as much as yours is. One of my "go to" cabs IS the "land yacht". Austins ONLY "rock n roll party cab". During the day Dave is low key and the sound is well down or off at your request to allow you to conduct business on your phone. At night, Scott is all out party time. GREAT CAB, and only in Austin. Too bad people only post when mad, not when happy. read more

Unfortunately, this is the only game in town apart from American Cab. My multiple experiences have not been horrible however, yesterday was the second time that Yellow Cab has failed us and put a large damper on an evening planned activities. The main concern is the Hail A Cab app... which seems darn cool, but when no-one shows to pick you up then it's a huge bust. Most recently, yesterday, my wife was to meet me downtown for an important occasion at Eddie V's restaurant. We decided that since I was coming from the Convention Hall and had my car, that she would order a cab to pick her up at 6pm and meet me there at 6.30pm. Pretty standard stuff. So we ordered the cab around 4pm to pick her up at 6pm. Unfortunately, by 6.20pm, I get a familiar text from beloved wifey, "this is ridiculous as usual". No cab. A phone call to HQ resulted in nothing and then she continued to monitor the awesome Hail A Cab app. By 6.30pm, nobody had picked up the fare, so I just told her to cancel and drive downtown to meet me, since our group was waiting on her to be seated. We had 6.30pm reservations. Obviously she was extremely frustrated and a little embarrassed when she finally was able to join us for dinner. We were lucky enough that the hostess sat an incomplete party. So epic fail by Yellow Cab... again. It is unfortunate, since the times we have been able to catch a cab, the drivers have been nice, cars clean and experience was a good one. However, I sincerely doubt if when we need a cab to be at the casa to pick us up at a specific time, I don't think I would call... since the anxiety of them even showing up is not worth the frustration. read more

"Taxi! Taxi!" I'm going right down the middle with this one. It's been the good, the bad and the ugly for me here. With not having a car for several years, I've taken a plethora of cab rides. The Good: I've gotten some great fun drivers. I really enjoy the ones who have lived in Austin their whole lives and can give you a story about every block. The Bad: Some drivers talk too much, and ask too many questions. A couple of times I've had to tell them that I didn't want to have a conversation, just a cab ride. It's also expensive. I was surprised when I was in New York and a cab was much less than I had expected. A ride from Ben White and Congress to the Capitol is going to set you back about 20 bones. The Ugly: One time I had made reservations for them to pick me up and take me to the airport. I had done this a few days in advance. After they were considerably late, I called and was told that I had just made a request for a cab, and that didn't guarantee anything and they were too busy to pick me up. Fortunately another cab company came to the rescue, but I almost missed my flight. read more

However, after this last time - never again! Last Wednesday, apparently their system was down and they couldn't deploy ANY cabs. Got a ride home, for about twice the uber cost (thanks Austin), payed the guy, tipped generously, then he wouldn't enter my complex garage as he was afraid of being trapped. Incidentally the 50 pizza deliveries to me, and 50 uber rides never got trapped. And there are 300 units in my building, I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one ordering pizza, or taking uber. We had to call three times in two hours for a cab. We came to know that one of the cabbies took another passenger instead of us. Pathetic service!!! The cab that we finally sat in was dirty. There was a bread piece on the seat. I think the cab needs to be checked every time before any passenger hops in and the cab driver needs to make sure the car is clean. I gave two stars because the cabbie was friendly and nice. I wish Uber was still operating or at least hope it comes back. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I just moved to town and am sorely disappointed in cab service so far. I'm guessing that anyone who gave a positive rating either lives in the nice 5 mi radius around downtown or was just in town for the night. I currently live in a beautiful new luxury appt complex on stassney ln surrounded by several other nice new apartment complexes... however yellow cab doesn't seem to like to go south of ben white. My specific scenario: last Thursday I had my company holiday party. It started at 6:30 so I thought if I did the Hail A Cab at 5:50 I would be good to go BY 6:15 at least.... not true. The app told me it would be approximately 15 minutes to get a cab. For an hour I waited to get a cab dispatched to me and it never happened.... just kept saying "still searching for a cab near you". It gives you no indication as to if it will be 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 6 hours.... I tried calling dispatch but they wouldn't answer the phones. Finally at 6:50 (20 minutes after my party had already started) I gave up and got in my car to drive over there which then ruined my whole plan of being responsible and taking a cab so I could have a few drinks and not drive.... Definitely ruined my mood for the night. TERRIBLE! read more

Ask for a manager... "manager don't work during weekends" Not a well managed business, to say the least! read more

This would be a 1 star review, but 2 of the phone reps out of my 11 calls (mostly busy signals) to Yellow Cab were decent. Scheduled the night before an 845am pick up to drop me off at the hospital for a surgery. Called 9am to see where cab was, and was told it should arrive soon. Called back at 920am, and was told they didn't have any cabs in the area. I canceled that request and drove myself to the hospital. A friend picked me up and took me home since I had anesthesia for my procedure. I I got home around noon and took a 2 hour nap. Woke up and decided to give Yellow Cab another shot. AT 230pm schedule online for a cab to take me back to the hospital so I could pick up my car. Called at 330 to see if they received the request. They did receive it and said a cab should arrive soon. The rep told me to call back if it didn't arrive in 15 minutes. Called at 415 to ask where the cab I requested at 230 was. Rep was apologetic and said one should be arriving soon and to call back in 15 minutes if it didn't arrive. At 5pm, I accepted that no cab would ever come, nor would Yellow Cab contact me to explain why not. I called the competition, Austin Cab company, but they were no better. Guess I won't be taking a cab in Austin anytime soon. read more

Worst can company in town. Worse if you are disabled and need to get anywhere. We called a week ahead of time for a scheduled wheelchair ride to the airport. They never showed. After a half hour we called an they said they would look for someone!!! This was already scheduled..!!!! 45 min later..same thing. We were forced to have him use an uncomfortable wheel chair and pay the extra expense for parking!!! Thank you so much for fuckin up our vacation before it even started!!! read more

It really sucks how Yellow Cab is the only main cab company in Austin because they suck!! Every single time I call for a cab, no one picks up and an automated message comes on saying that the operators are too busy to handle the call. One time I even called on a Thursday night at 6:30pm and got that same message. Too busy? Too lazy is more like it. If they don't have enough operators to handle calls, they should hire more!! Oh yeah, and the automated message also tells you to order a cab online. Well I went to their site and their website is not user-friendly at all and it almost seems like they make it extremely difficult for you to order a cab on purpose. Honestly, I feel really bad for their employees. Obviously, management has no idea on how to run a business and it's unfortunate that the cab drivers have to suffer because of it. read more

They have zero customer commitment and quality of the cabs and drivers is highly variable. I'm just going to start calling good drivers directly. My first bad experience was on SXSW weekend, when we called a cab at 2 AM and were told to expect an hour wait, then we called at 3 and were told the cab was coming, then at 4 they said the same, and at 5 the same. Finally, we just walked a mile in the rain to get a bus. Today (Sunday AM) was another terrible one, and it's not even an event weekend. I scheduled a cab for 4:20 AM, and called when it had not shown up at 4:30. The woman who took my call offered no apology, and just said, "We're working on it." When I pressed for a status, she said she could not proivde one. I had to wake a friend to take me to my flight. When I called to cancel my cab and explained that my cab never came, the woman on the phone offered not even an apology. To top it off, the quality of cabs and drivers is highly variable. read more

Yellow Cab is really hit or miss. It is run by independent drivers so each individual experience in the cab will really vary. Here's a few of mine: -Called cabs or ordered them online and got them on time. -Called a cab, got a call that said the cab was here 10 minutes early. Walked outside and saw no cab anywhere; sat on the line for ten more minutes until we got a dispatcher who said he could send the cab "back" (even though we weren't late at all - the cab was ridiculously early.) Then we got sick of waiting and flagged down Austin Cab. Yellow Cab called me back 2 hours later saying our cab was there. -Flagged down a cab downtown. A brunette woman in the front seat asked where we were going. I said West Campus. She laughed and "shooed" us with her hand and goes "Nope" and drives off. -Sometimes we will order cabs online and they won't come at all. So my verdict is that I avoid Yellow Cab in general. Unfortunately they have a monopoly on the cabs in Austin - there is Austin cab and Roy's Taxi, but there are far more Yellow Cabs. Take the E-Bus or get a friend to drive you if you're going downtown. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!! I tried booking an early morning cab (5:45 am) and set it up the day before. After about an hour of back and forth trying to get them to accept my reservation because they couldn't read my Credit Card info on their FAX MACHINE (YES, THEY STILL USE FAX), they finally 'accepted' the reservation. However, come the next morning they didn't have a driver to take the reservation and left me and a friend stranded -- making us miss our flight as we were out of transportation options and other cab services weren't available in time. They DID NOT even have the courtesy to call or email me that a cab wasn't picking us up. Not only was the entire process of setting this up annoying, it was also extremely costly as we both had to pay for new flights to get home. I wrote a scathing email to the company and have yet to hear back. This company should go out of business immediately, I hate them. I would prefer to give them negative stars if possible. read more
