**WARNING: check your credit card statements for extra charges by drivers** My story: I used the app to get a cab a few weeks ago on a Saturday night- no more calling and hearing busy signals- and it was at my apartment within 15 min. Score! Off we went downtown and on our merry drinking way. The same night we happened to hail a Yellow Cab for our ride home. We got in and before we were even rolling I realized we had about $10 cash between the two of us and asked if they take credit cards. The driver grumbled, "You don't have cash?" but started the meter anyway. The driver sped pretty unsafely (this ain't LA buddy) to my Northwest Hills apartment but atleast didn't deviate from the normal route. He seemed slightly annoyed about having to drive us into the gate so I told him we would get out and walk in. I used my credit card, added a tip from the pre-determined amounts offered, had the receipt texted to me and went on home. Flash forward to today. Checking my credit card statement and there is a separate additional $10 charge from the same driver. I'm already disputing with my credit card company but just want to warn other people out there to check their credit card statements because I'm sure I'm not the first person this has happened to! read more

The famous app wasn't working and the phones were overloaded. 5 mins after cab no showed I called. Terrible service. Waited on hold twice and they couldn't find my reservation using the confirmation number their site provided. I took a screen shot so I know it was accurate. Had to get an emergency ride to airport. This is absolutely the worst company in the travel industry. I called a cab in Austin to go downtown and they said it would be 15-20 minutes. I never received a call and a cab never picked me up. I'm guessing your experience with this cab company depends on when you call them? Weekend nights, bad. Any other time, good. At least that's what I get from the other reviews. As for me, I ended up having to leave my vehicle at an auto repair shop overnight. When they were done, I decided to take a taxi back to the shop to get my vehicle. I looked up several more "local" taxicabs to Pflugerville, but went ahead and settled on the "big" company, Yellow Cab. I called the dispatcher, and they said they would call a cab over right away to my residence. Sure enough, within about 15 minutes, they arrived at my home. The taxi was nice and clean. I told the driver that I needed to get to Hester's Crossing in Round Rock which he wasn't familiar with, but I assume had I had the address handy he could have looked it up on his GPS unit. I knew where we were going, though, so I just directed him to the auto shop myself. He asked me if I watched soccer, and we talked a little bit about the World Cup (what little I know anyway) while the Germany-Spain game was going on in the background on the radio. Safe, quick, and easy. That was the first time I've used a taxi in Austin so it turned out pretty much as I would have expected it. One quick note: when I called the dispatcher, I didn't leave my number, but when I arrived back home later that day, I had a message on my answering machine saying that my taxi had arrived. I assume they use caller ID to let you know when your taxi has arrived; I was outside waiting for it so I didn't hear it when they called. read more

Car in the shop ready to be picked up. Friends all at work, so I call a cab. I'd never needed to use one before, so I haven't a clue about it. Call one, it arrives pretty quickly. Guy doesn't even greet me or anything. We drive the short distance. (less than 2 miles) The bill is around $8. Okay. So I give him my card. He runs it. He looks annoyed as hell like it's a big freaking bother. Then he asks me if the total is right. I agree. He hands me the little slip. I look for the line to add the tip on, like in a restaurant. He totally goes off on me. Practically yelling at me "I ASKED YOU IF IT WAS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!" He was pissy and rude. I had a $5 bill, but he sure as hell wasn't gonna get it by being such an asshole. DO NOT USE AUSTIN YELLOW CAB IF YOU WANT TO GET TO YOUR DESTINATION ANYWHERE CLOSE TO ON TIME. We reserved a cab with wheelchair capabilities on Tuesday for a doctor's appointment on Friday for noon. Anyone would think that making a reservation would mean the cab would be at the designated place at the designated time. That cab was almost an hour late and repeated calls to the company provided answers in the range of "he will be there in 15 minutes; if he's not, call us back" to "we don't control the schedules of the cab drivers - they're independent contractors." After the cab finally arrived, the cab driver guided my brother and his wheelchair into the cab. His motorized chair went forward too far and broke. We had to struggle to get his chair back out of the cab. As we were tending to the chair, the cab driver quietly got into his cab and left. After reading the other reviews here on Yelp, I'm seeing a definite pattern. 1. Call and make a reservation for a cab. 2. Wait 30 minutes. Cling to the tiny hope the cab is on its way. 3. Call the company to find out where the cab is. Find a little comfort that it will be there in "15 minutes." 4. Wait. 5. Feel blood pressure elevate. 6. Call repeatedly. Come to the realization that you should have noted the 2 star rating on Yelp and that it would have been faster to disassemble the motorized wheelchair, put the parts into our car, drive to the Salt Lick for lunch, drive to the hospital, reassemble the chair and go to the doctor appointments. read more

7:05am, I wake up and realize that I'm probably going to miss my 7:42 flight. 2 minutes on the line waiting for dispatch. I was in the cab by 7:11. Cabby was friendly and got me to the airport quickly and safely! I'm now in my aircraft thanks to their quick service. read more

I ordered a cab to take me to pick up my car from the shop. I had flexibility in my schedule so I was not concerned about the cab arriving at any particular moment. I ordered the cab online, and somehow the cab was given the wrong address. The driver ended up several blocks down the street. Lesson learned: double-check the addresses after confirming them before submitting my request! Luckily, the dispatcher get in touch with me and sent the cab right around. The driver was polite and courteous even though he had just been sent out of his way. We did our best to work out what had happened so that I would be more informed when ordering a cab in the future. The technical problem was a minor one that was easily remedied. For what it's worth, I expect things to take a while with cabs. That's just the way the business goes. They're not there instantaneously. If you're ordering a cab, always be sure to factor in additional time to your schedule. read more

The reviews are true. This company is terrible. We were waiting outside the Bass Concert Hall with at least 100 other people trying to get a cab. The thing that surprised me was the lack of cabs. There were zero. This is 3000 person venue. If I was a cab driver I would be waiting at 10 pm when I knew the show was about to let out. That's guaranteed fares. We called. We called again. We called a third time, and then a fourth time only to be told that the cab was on the way. It never arrived. An hour and a half later we were fortunate that a competitors cab was in the area and we were able to flag him down and return to our hotel. Someone did call me from Yellow Cab almost three hours later, but at that point I just sent the call to voice mail. We were already on 6th St trying to put the ordeal behind us. We waited two hours and called back multiple times, only to be told that they were "still working on finding someone" each time. That's right, for two hours they were supposedly looking for a driver. I called and got transferred from a call director, to a dispatcher, to a supervisor, to a manager (all cold transfers) who identified herself as an assistant manager. She told me that this was "public transportation" when I contested the definition of the words she was using, she told me that I had a different "scenario" of the word than she did. Yellow Cab experience is always horrible!! I had to use them twice a week for almost three weeks and every time I was frustrated and completely disappointed. First, They tell you that the wait time is 30 minutes but trust me its NOT!!...Once they showed up after more than 2 hours. The driver was rude and the cab was badly smoked in which triggered my allergies. Had several interactions with them over SXSW this year, the most recent of which is the most disrespectful experience I've ever had in a cab -- and I'm from Boston. I flagged down the cab on 6th street, and gave him the address -- about 1.5 miles away. I had to take a call for part of the ride, and periodically the driver would mutter things like "...keep talking" and other strangely specific things to himself which clearly were about me. It felt like he wanted an apology for having to drive his cab. We get there, and I hand him my card. Immediately he looks at it and says "Seriously?". "Is there a problem?" I say. He then goes on to tell me how last year he had $4,000 in transaction fees. How that money could pay for his family for months down here, and a litany of other things cursing the existence of credit cards. He apparently thought it was appropriate to hold a single passenger responsible for the problems of the whole system. Welcome to the world of business friend. There's operating costs. There's times where you'll have to spend money to get money. He saw the card and thought about the 3% (using Square) transaction fee he'd "lose" by accepting it. I generally add 3% extra tip when using credit for this exact reason, but he didn't even wait to get that far. He just saw money that wasn't his. And that made him mad. I get that taxi drivers can have a tough job. Ideally everyone would pay in cash and have destinations with plenty of new passengers waiting. But that's not always what you get, and you sure as hell don't have a right to berate the passenger for a $10 cab fare before you even see total tip. This is why things like Uber have picked up and what drivers like this don't get. People will pay more to not have to deal with the indignant sighs and "How dare you not pay with cash" and "The economy is bad" commentary. read more

I'm quite surprised to see such low ratings for Yellow Cab. I've used them a few times, and I've never had any issues. My most recent call to Yellow Cab was during ACL. I ordered a cab for 2:00pm, and assumed they'd show up sometime between 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Nope! The driver arrived at exactly 2:00. Awesome! I requested 4 cabs to be sent to my house to pick up 16 people we were transporting to downtown Austin. The cab drivers were two hours late for the two that showed up. The two other cabs NEVER showed up, leaving many of us without rides. I eventually had to call a friend who was about to go to sleep and beg for transportation. The dispatch service was shut down by 11pm, at this point I had been waiting two hours for the cabs so there was now also no way to find out why those other cabs never showed up. This morning I tried to call the company to provide feedback regarding this service. Despite using the same language I am using here, with no raised voice, no cursing, etc. I was rudely hung up on when the supervisor couldn't provide a decent explanation for this low quality of service. In fact, the so-called supervisor made it so much worse. By having such terrible customer service from the management of the company, they have assured that I will never use this company again. read more

I called from Carmax yesterday to find out how much it would cost me to get from 13300 N IH35 to Spicewood, Texas about 42 miles. They quoted 55 to 60 dollars. Thinking this wasn't bad I had them pick me up. When we started leaving I read the current rates: $2.50 to start and $2.40 per 1/6 mile! I calculated it to be well over $100 and it ended up $121! Only twice as expensive. On a good note the driver Spencer Nuzu (sp) was a nice guy, reminded me of the Sopranos guys, leather jacket, slicked back hair and glasses, if it wasn't for him a total loss. Next time calculate the fees on your own and if you are stuck in traffic the meter still runs. read more

I actually got two different drivers (coming and going) and they both came on time. They were very personable, had good driving skills, and I knew immediately that I wanted to give them both good ratings. We shared genuine laughs, fists bumps, and stories on the commute. Wish there were negative stars. Two weeks ago I reserved a wheel chair accessible van to take my 83 year old father from the nursing home to the Capitol to see his grandson receive his Eagle Scout badge on Saturday the 29th. I called Friday the 28th to triple check on our reservation. According to them everything was good. On Saturday Dad was dressed and ready to go. He was so excited, he'd been practicing on standing so he could take pictures with his granson, he is so proud of him. This was a once in a lifetime event. Yellow Cab van was to pick us up at 2:15. At 2:20 I call them and get a recording telling me that they are trying to find me a taxi. WTH? I got transferred 3 times and finally got to speak to the dispatcher. She advised that they didn't have any cabs available. She said they are searching for one. WHAT????? What good does it do you to book a taxi if they aren't going to show. Dispatcher told me driver would call me when he arrives. Unfortunately we had to go to the ceremony without dad. He was so disappointed. How can you be so heartless to deny a grandpa the joy of seeing his grandson's ceremony. When I returned to the nursing home I checked my phone. Unknown number call at 4:16. I called it and asked who had called me. He replied he did, I'm the taxi driver. I said you were supposed to be here at 2:15. His reply, it's only 4:16 in his broken English. Apparently he thought he was only one minute late. I told him he was two hours late. This whole ordeal was very unprofessional to say the least. I will not recommend them nor ever use them. I called Yellow Cab at about 10:20 p.m. to get a ride home from work last Saturday. The operator was friendly, though they would not schedule a pick up ahead of time because I was a restaurant employee (weird...). She quoted me a wait time of 20-30 minutes. ...Skip ahead 45 minutes and I tried to call back to see where my cab was. The lines were all busy, so I was not put on hold, instead I was told to call back later and the line went dead. When I finally got through, I had been waiting over an hour, outside, alone in a parking lot. The operator apologized and told me that my cab would be there within 15 minutes. ...Skip ahead again to about midnight, I called again and cancelled the cab (Which took about 10 minutes of waiting on hold) and told my boyfriend to come pick me up (For which I will NOT be reimbursed by my job). read more

The two times I have used Yellow Cab since moving to Austin has been TERRIBLE. The first time my tire blew out in the wee hours of the morning, and after calling the cab company they lost my confirmation order and I had to call them back thirty minutes later to remind them. The cab still took two hours to get to Slaughter. Didn't get home until 6 AM. The second time was during ACL. I know traffic gets backed up. I know things are crazy. But don't tell me it's going to be thirty minutes and when I call back an hour later tell me you haven't even sent out a cab. Shoot straight with me, I'm a grown up, I can take it. The driver verbally assaulted me for asking why the fare started at 4:50 Here is the exact conversation - me : I noticed that the fare started at 4:50 , the sticker says 1:50 him: You think I am ripping you off? What man. If you want go report it to the company. I dont care. me: Why are you getting angry? him: Because you think i am ripping you off. I will give you my social (scornfully) , but you will need to give me yours (still didnt' understand what he meant) ... the argument got hotter ..he kept shouting at me. This man had a foreign accent and a foreign name I think it was an African name (I mean from the African continent, not African-American). I couldnt figure out why he got angry for no reason. I called customer service after this event. The lady I talked to transfered me to his supervisor, but it went to his voicemail. I am pretty sure nobody is going to call me back Here is my advice - take your own car if you are going to the airport. It's only 7 dollar a day, turns out to be cheaper than cab. Have somebody take you to the airport. I don't usually write reviews, but I compelled to write this time. I wish I could give a zero or negative review to this company. Yellow cab, you have lost another customer because of your rude driver. I wouldn't have written this if you had sent someone polite. My guy & I rode into Austin on Amtrak for the F1 race (Oct. 30, 2014). In order to pick up our rental car, we needed a cab ride to the airport. About an hour before we pulled in, my guy had a cab already reserved & lo & behold, the train was on time, & there was our cabbie...on time...driving an unmarked white minivan. This was the last good thing about our interaction with him. When we got into the cab, the 1st thing the driver did was to ask us if we'd each like a can of free beer (up to this point, I'd never known about the open container laws in the state of TX!) & we both politely declined. Our driver didn't speak much English, but we can deal with that...the problems began when he couldn't understand that we needed to go to the airport rather than our final destination, which happened to be in New Braunfels. After several minutes of stilted conversation, we managed to make our wishes clear, & we were off...on what I can only call the cab ride from HELL. Firstly, this driver (he actually refused to tell us his name at ANY point during our interaction, although he DID give me his card with his phone numbers!) absolutely WOULD NOT shut up. He was talking a mile a minute & so fast that we're still both convinced that he was coked out of his mind. Secondly, the man drove like an absolute LUNATIC. Speeding, weaving in & out of cars & slamming on the brakes at the very last second...quite honestly, we were totally lucky that we weren't severely injured in an accident or even killed! We finally arrived at the airport in one piece (thank you, Lord!)...paid the man & even tipped him (although I'm still not exactly sure why) & went inside to get our rental car. While waiting in line, my guy reached into his pocket for his phone, only to discover that it had fallen out of his pocket onto the floor of the cab. I still had this driver's card, so I went outside & called him to ask if he had found the phone, & he said that he had, so I asked him if he'd be willing to return the phone to the airport that evening. His response was as follows: "Bitch, I am extremely busy, & you're not important enough for me to come back for, just because you left your shit behind!" Now admittedly, this pissed me off...but I managed to maintain my temper, & politely asked him if we could meet him somewhere to pick up the phone. He started screaming & cursing me out again, & then promptly hung up on me. At this point, I was beyond frustrated, so I went back into the airport, & my guy ended up calling him. This guy proceeded to curse him out as well, although he DID say that he'd drop his phone off at the Austin airport's lost & found, but it wouldn't be until the following morning. Okay...that's fine. As long as we get the damn phone back, we don't CARE about having to make a 2nd trip to the airport! I'm glad that this driver returned my guy's phone, but calling me a "f***ing bitch" & then cursing my guy out as well was so far beyond unnecessary that it defies description. If you can avoid it, DO NOT USE the Medo Taxicab Company...it's the absolute WORST customer service I've EVER experienced! read more

I'm Prior Military and have lived all over the US, used a lot of Cabs, and one thing's for sure: People LOVE to hate Cab Companies. Honestly, I've had a lot problems with Cab Companies too, even here in Austin. (But not Yellow Cab). However, while I have had a few issues with the Yellow Cab Dispatchers, I have not once had a single problem with any of the Yellow Cab drivers, save one getting part of the destination address wrong and making a turn one block too late. That literally is the only problem we've ever had with a Yellow Cab driver here in Austin all these years with perhaps 50 or so Cab Calls. If the above wasn't enough, all but 2 of our Cabs have arrived IN LESS THAN 20 MINUTES. Those 2 that didn't were during rush hour, and both called to advise us of their ETAs. I honestly don't know what the problem is with all these negative reviews, and frankly I don't believe that it's this bad. While I'm sure some have had negative experiences worth reporting on Yelp, I personally after heavy usage haven't really seen what all the negative press is about. I'm reporting this on behalf of my coworker. I personally have had terrible experiences with cab drivers, but what happened to her this morning is infuriating and unacceptable. After calling Yellow Cab to get a ride into work when her car broke down, the driver this morning made numerous inappropriate sexually charged comments, and then implied that my coworker was an exotic dancer and continued down that road to the point that when she did finally make it to work she was on the verge of tears and shaking she was so upset by this. On the contrary, every experience I have had with Uber and Lyft have been positive and enjoyable. BRING ON THE RIDE SHARE, if this is the kind of drivers that are transporting Austinites around. Unbelievable. I called to complain directly to the company, and after listening to about 3 minutes of advertisements, I got through to an operator, who redirected my call to a voicemail where I left a message expressing how unacceptable that kind of conduct is, and have not heard back, nor do I expect to. I took a very short cab ride which was supposed to cost about $5, but ended up being $14, because the cab driver didn't have change for a twenty, only six dollars on him. Worse, he was completely unapologetic about it. When I called Yellow Cab to report it, the woman on the other end of the line wasn't apologetic either. I could practically hear her dismissive shrug as she said that it wasn't required for cab drivers to carry change on them. What sense does this make? How hard is it to keep twenty or forty dollars in change on you as a cab driver? More importantly, why isn't it a requirement? I've probably taken hundreds of cab rides in Yellow Cab, in general they are quick and pleasant. I've had some strange rides too, this one last week was the strangest one ever. So, it was about 1pm and raining, I didn't want to wait on the bus. I decide to call a cab to get down to the campus area, I needed to run a few errands, pay some bills, deliver a care package. Mini-Van cab arrives at the house. I hop in, I live on a deadend street so the cab turns around. I notice there is a large video screen in the back seat. I figure it is some promotional thing, I've seen the video screens in cabs in Vegas before. Well we get to the light at the end of the street, and the cabbie touches a little screen on his computer up front. All of a sudden a video of Cher is blasting on the screen. "DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE?" As loud as it can go. CABBIE: Sir, PLEASE LOOK AT THE SIGN SIR! ****There is a sign on the flat screen TV that says simply, "DON'T HATE!" DON: I'm not hating dude, I just want to tell you where I'm going. CABBIE: DO NOT HATE IN MY CAB SIR! DON: Turn, the gaddam Cher down so I can tell you where I'm going. CABBIE: (Turns Cher down) Where are you going? DON: 28th and Rio Grande CABBIE: Why don't you like Cher? DON: Well because I'm not a gay man. CABBIE: (Goes off-cranks the Cher back up) I'm a gay man but that is not why I like Cher. DON: Different strokes man. CABBIE: I like her because she is native american. DON: Really I always assumed she was Italian with that nose. CABBIE: SHE IS NOT ITALIAN SHE IS FUCKING NATIVE AMERICAN! DON: Ok man, I don't really have a dog in this hunt. CABBIE: It is so easy for people to hate. DON: I don't really hate her man, I just think she might be Italian, maybe Jewish. CABBIE: (SLAMS ON BREAKS WHIPS CAB OVER TO THE CURB) CABBIE: SHE IS NOT FUCKING INDIAN SHE IS A NATIVE FUCKING AMERICAN. PLEASE READ THE SIGN, DO NOT HATE IN MY CAB! DON: Ok I'll get out, I can't take the Cher anyways. DON: You get alot of repeat customers? CABBIE: You want me to tell you something that will help you out in life? DON: Sure, that is why I called a cab.
