My little family had a college tour scheduled today because my daughter is interested in attending UTC... My husband had done a little research before we arrived in town, and had The Yellow Deli picked out for us to eat lunch... I was so glad he chose this eatery because it was different in every way, atmosphere and food... I was a fan when I first looked at the menu, seemed to be written by very good doodler... The restaurant offers a variety of choices (breakfast, an assortment of hot drinks and cold drinks, sandwiches, soups, salads, and desserts) served all day... I selected a yummy slaw as my side to go with something i had never seen on a menu before and something I'ld never tried... It was called the Bristol Bay Sandwich... The waiter explained that the restaurant uses different folks to provide all of their fresh products, to include the salmon they serve... My sandwich had a salmon spread that was delicious... I've included a picture from their menu with the description of my sandwich and a picture from their website of the fisherman who provides salmon to the restaurant... I encourage you to Google this restaurant to find out more interesting details... It is located next to the university... The students are fortunate they have a neat place to dine, if they want to go off campus... It's within walking distance of their classes and residences... Also, another good thing about this restaurant is that it has reasonable prices that won't break the bank... My husband and I discovered The Yellow Deli's other location is near our hometown, so we will be recommending it to friends. read more

I had to come here again for the deli pesto. 10/10 per usual. The service is always great. This time I tried the iced St Joe and wow it was actually really good. I didn't have any expectations but it really surprised me. Definitely getting that again. My friend got the mango mate and that tops the hibiscus drink for sure. read more

Say what you will about weird quasi-Christian/Jewish end-time communal cults, this one makes great Kosher food. My chicken on the ranch was phenomenally juicy and flavorful. My friends loved their Bristol bay and deli pesto. The pina colada smoothie was light and refreshing. Chili was fantastic. We splurged on a honey bun and carrot cake at the end, both delish. Prices are great. Really the only so-so part of the meal were the potato chips that came with the sandwiches. All the food tasted fresh and organic. The decor is some kind of arts-and-crafts thing you've never seen before, kind of a Disney-meets-hippie vibe. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, albeit in that oddly programmed would-you-like-some-literature way that cult members have (yes I did leave with a free calendar). First time visiting Yellow Deli; What a delightful find! It's like walking into a tree house with all the wood finishes. Up the winding staircase is a larger eating area as well as a balcony area (large dining area) out the back. They specialize in fresh made bread but offer salads & soups as well. Already recommending to coworkers for their visit next week into town. The only downside is parking. Limited street parking and behind restaurant has 4-5 car spots. 10 out of 10 would eat here again. Couple things to note. No pork products.. not even bacon . The only entrance is the front door facing street. The doors on back of establishment are exit only. There is a lift / small elevator on the back of restaurant. Reasonable pricing for deli sandwiches. $12-14 read more

Yep, I'm a local. The food is dynamite. It's slow paced place, not good for a quick lunch but delicious if you have the time. My absolute favorite is the Yellow Submarine w/ chips and a Green drink. The strawberry smoothie is also a wonder. The staff is kind and no one expects you to jump up and free a table. The culty stuff as I understand it is as follows. They are basically kosher Christian hippies that keep tons of Old Testament rules but not all. They live communally and do not spare the rod to spoil the child. I'm not endorsing any of the Abrahamic traditions or any situation where someone has no choice about participating. If you're okay with going to chick-fil-a or shopping at Hobby Lobby, which I am not, and you're missing this farm to table spot, you might want to reevaluate. read more

Wonderful lunch spot We had a tasty, healthy lunch in the beautifully decorated ambient surroundings of the Yellow Deli cafe today. We ordered a bowl of chilli and a Deli Rose sandwich and they were both delicious and very reasonably priced. The service was friendly and while we waited for our food to come, we walked around the cafe to look at the work that had gone into decorating it. This is highly recommended! read more

Keep in mind this is only our opinion , based on a single in-store lunch visit. Limited parking- 4 spaces - and guessing most biz is from students on the UTC campus, which adjoins this store. This is a religious chain of the Twelve Tribes, a devout set of employees, pamphlets and all. If the food and service are great IDC. But they weren't. Not super busy on a rainy day, a full 30 minutes to make four standard menu sandwiches. Not good. The Buffalo chicken sandwich had a great roll. Lotsa sauce. The chicken must have left by a side door. A pile of hand picked chips on the side. Waste of money. The three roast beef sandwiches were ok. But this is not fresh in store roast beef. It is also thin, minimal meat. The horseradish was the highlight. Cole slaw drowning in liquidy mayo. Wayyyyyyy overrated. Skip it unless you're on campus. read more

A decent spot by the school for a casual lunch or dinner. I had the chef salad with no cheese and it was fine - could have used more turkey, but the house dressing was good. My favorite part though was the thick slab of buttered bread that came on the side! Reuben sandwich had a slight taste of banana maybe to the bread which was slightly off putting but other than that ok. Chips desperately needed salt. Bowl of chili was yummy, I like it spicier but they do have hot sauce at the table to add. Cornbread on the side also a star. Yellow Deli is a Chattanooga staple. The ambiance is very whimsical and fairytale-like inside. The decor is very earthy with lots of boho fabric and greenery inside. Service is always very friendly too! Parking can be tricky, there's about 4 spots out back down an alley, and then limited street parking around the block. There were few spots left, as it is near a busy street and by campus. It is so worth finding a spot though! This is a very popular spot, as it is open 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. Being nearby campus, you can see lots of students and young people here studying or hanging out. Finding a table can be tricky during peak hours. But it is very big inside. With larger tables downstairs, and smaller tables upstairs and of course their outdoor seating too. They have some great hot sandwiches and soups. Everything is fresh, and their bread is a must. Everything I have gotten has been so tasty, so you really can't go wrong. I would also highly recommend their yerba mate tea. I love their mocha mint mate latte. It is a thin mint dream, so delicious. When checking out I also got a sample of their iced ole saint joe. We bought a bag to go, it was that good. I would highly recommend trying a cup of that! A cute cafe with so many choices! Left full and satisfied. While a little pricier than I thought, this cafe still has me wanting to come back. I got the root beer on tap as a drink. I absolutely loved the artistic vibe at this establishment. It was a two story building with a spiral staircase, that lead to dining areas that were surrounded by hanging plants, and murals. Yellow Deli is such a gem. It's one of the best deli's ti visit in Chattanooga. The interior of the deli is very creative. I definitely got hippie vibes and I loved it. They deserve a 5 for food but service was just awful. The food was delicious. Great selection of bread some freshly made and Oprah said you can have bread! When we entered the host was sitting down chatting with a friend. We were kept waiting for 10+ minutes and had to ask for service. The waiter looked out of it and he never brought nor asked if we needed water (we had to ask another waiter) and didn't apologize about the wait. The place is cute retro and has intricate macrame like I was stepping back into the 70's. If you have any sort of food allergies, just avoid this place as a whole. I immediately informed our server of my severe allergies to all tree nuts and peanuts. He went on to recommend a drink item that was "good" and "safe" for me to have. I took a few drinks and tasted the distinctive flavor & asked exactly what was in it. He explained "hazelnut" and a few other ingredients and I went straight into panics. He then admits he did not write my allergies down and was unsure whether or not my food was safe for me to eat due to possible contamination with what I am deathly allergic to. He removed the food from our table and needless to say, I had Benadryl for dinner instead, got zero studying done and had to be monitored the remainder of the night. The family and I are only in Chattanooga once or twice a year. The Yellow Deli is a must stop. Chattanooga is such a foodie town. Lots of great places to eat but few as unique as the Yellow Deli. The sandwiches are awesome, desserts delectable. In addition they serve wonderful shakes and mattes. On top of it all is fresh made seed and nut breads and whole loaves for sale. We always take home several loaves which freeze well. We love the ambiance. The wooden tables and interior, sort of a mountain cabin / hobbit feel. The walls are filled with murals and more. The Yellow Deli wears its beliefs, religion and philosophy right on its sleeve, well walls. Read them all or visit regularly and read something new each time. read more

We love this place. We heard about the Yellow Deli from my wife's co workers. They told us about this quirky little deli that serves great food with great quality ingredients so we had to check it out. Our server was new, her name was Odem (I really hope I am spelling that right) she was very friendly and very kind. She told us about their farm in Virginia, this was where she moved from to help the understaffed restaurant. I ordered a cup of the cauliflower cheese soup and the country ranch sandwich. It was all so fresh and delicious. The atmosphere reminds me of a theme park, Disneyland or knotts berry farm back in California. I'm torn here. For cuteness, I'd give it five stars. I've never seen so many plants or macrame in one restaurant. It's cozy and has a variety of seating options indoors and out...depending on your mood and the number in your party. The service was intolerable, however. It was a weekday lunch and not too busy at all. Our waitress checked on us just a few times from arrival to departure. It took too long to be greeted, too long for our drinks, too long for our food, and too long for our bill. My husband sat with an empty glass for so long, never one refill of water, that we finally left. We tried to catch her attention multiple times, but nothing...almost zombie-like. It was weird. The food was okay, nothing great. Limited menu. I'm sure they were not house-made chips. The biggest offense was probably the Reuben sandwich which had no thousand island but mustard instead. That's way too bitter with sauerkraut without sweetness. I'm going with three stars because maybe we ordered the wrong things and maybe we had a dud waitress.
