This is one of the only places in St John's which falls into the Brit "gastropub" category. Further, it's about the only place in SJ where they brew their own beer on-site. The above features make this pretty much a must-visit. The menu is a bit on the pricey side, even by Water St. standards, so far as pub-grub goes. But definitely tasty. The beer, however, is barely more than you pay for some Qidi Vidi at any local pub, and is quite a step higher in quality. This relates to airport location. I've eaten here maybe five times in the past year. Pretty much the only place to eat at the airport. The food is pub food and average at best and bad at times and I've tried a few different Things. Just had the sweet potato fries with a burger. Soggy and worse I've had and left them. Told the server. His response? - 'yeah I know they are a little hit and miss' lol. Even the servers don't rate! That was it! Don't come hungry. Eat before you head to airport. My wife and I recently ate at the Yellowbelly Brewery and Public House in St. John's on vacation. The menu had many tempting choices. We wanted to try the onion rings made with Panko breadcrumbs, but they were out - likely because they are so good. We both ordered the Yellowbelly Burger - and we were so glad we did! The blending of Blue Cheese, pulled pork, original tomato jam and other ingredients exploded with flavor in each bite. If you like gourmet burgers, you gotta try Yellowbelly when you are in St. John's. Be sure to get their onion rings and let us know if they are as good as I expect they are. read more

I went here with a bunch of people on a sunday night on a business trip. We ordered some beer at the downstairs bar and, yes, the beer was good. Locally made. Then we went upstairs and things changed for the worse from then on. Waited about 20 minutes to even speak to a waitress. I didn't even end staying and went to a restaurant down the street. Many of the people I was with stayed and waited. I had eaten, and was on after dinner drinks (this being st. johns) by the time they got their main course. Slooooow, sloooow. Ugh! read more

I visited the brewery twice in my five day visit, and came away with mixed feelings. The first night I was in St. John's, we visited and put our names down to get a text when a table opened up. I ordered the chicken caesar salad pizza, which I had seen on an episode of "You Gotta Eat Here". It was an interesting concept, essentially a chicken pizza with some caesar salad on top. The pizza was very delicious. My girlfriend ordered a large pot of mussels with the chorizo sauce. We were floored when we saw the size of that dish. If you plan on getting mussels as an appetizer, stick with the small. Even if it's for a main, the large can be easily shared among two people. The mussels were fresh, the sauce was good, and it was chalk full of chorizo bits as well. I ordered the sampler of beers and have to say that none of the beer really blew me away, but I did enjoy the cider. All in all, a good meal. We came back a second time with a larger group. It was a semi-busy night, although we were seated around 8:45pm so the dinner rush was dying down. Our group ordered food and the wait time was ridiculous. Our waitress also never came by once to check up on us, if we needed more water, beer, etc. The total wait time for food was well over 40 minutes, which I think is quite unacceptable. However, the group seemed to enjoy the food. The service could have been better. read more

I was craving some good beer and bar grub and was not disappointed. Not too terribly busy on a spring Wednesday night, and the inside was cozy and modern with exposed brick walls, large windows, and soft lighting. We sat next to the window facing the street and tried their pale ale which I thought a bit hoppy. I had the signature burger with a turkey patty instead of beef, with sweet potato fries. Great pub in an old, historic building. Beer brewed onsite, and they were disappointingly out of the stout, but the red and the holiday beer were both good. Had the chowder, which was really good, and a Sicilian pizza, also very good. We ate downstairs in the bar area, so can't speak to the upstairs. Service was also outstanding. read more

Not that impressed. Not turkey burgers, out of onion rings. Seatmates pizzas came out half burnt. The black bean burger was good, but not solid enough to pick up, had to use a fork and knife. For a micro brewery they didn't offer samples. I was looking forward to the brownie for desert but the server informed me they didn't have it, had never had it, even though I saw it on their website. The food was really good, though a little high in price; however the service was awful. I was in a group who was left waiting in the entrance for 10 min and when we were led to our table there were two less seats than people in the group. It was very awkward and these problems continued into the evening, all of this plus a built-in tip as we were a group. read more

We came at lunch on a Monday and the place was surprisingly busy. We were immediately seated upstairs by a friendly hostess. We had the Fighting Irish Red and the St. John's Stout. Both very good and appropriate for the cold rainy day. The lunch burger and beer special was perfect. The chowder was very good as well. My daughter had the chicken fingers and ordered the sweet potato fries. The portion was massive but the fries were disappointing as they were tiny bits and quite soggy. Served with BBQ sauce - usually you see these with a spicy mayo. Oh well. Good experience overall. We would come again. read more

Joe makes amazing drinks and coming to this place without her here is tough because the tender care in the mixology is just not there. Aly is a lot of fun and a very attentive server. The beer was great. They were out of stout but the pale ale was nicely hoppy but not an ipa, nor was it advertised to be. The red ale was a little bland. The selection could have been better than 4 beers but the beer I drank was fine. Started with a spinach salad - the small was nicely sized and a great taste and value. The dressing was nicely done. I again ordered poorly. Tried something different - pizza with asparagas and smoked salmon. Great idea but the taste was not there. What kept this from a 4 was probably my poor ordering. Yellow Belly has one of the only mid-range menus in town. The food is delicious, and the beers are my favorite of the local offerings. If you want a table at happy hour you should call and make a reservation as it fills up right at 5 o'clock. The Underbelly downstairs has happy hour prices for an extra hour. read more

Super cool interior with exposed brick and rock. Had their Pinot noir and a blue tequila martini. Both were great. For food our table had the turkey taco nachos, vegetable nachos and muscles. Everyone loved the food. Their menu didn't have gluten free options so I had to ask the server. I'm not sure how much options are available but the nachos are gluten free. The yellow belly is one of my favorite places in St. John's for a good after work drink and dependably decent food. The great part about the restaurant is their house brewed craft beers. They stock various forms from light ale, IPAs to stouts. The menu is pretty diverse as well if you have a crowd and don't want to head to a chain restaurant. While in town for a wedding weekend yellow belly was where we spent the most of our time. It's was my favorite bar in town, with decent beer, which was hard to come by up here, and good pub food ; excellent fish and chips. The staff was really friendly and accommodated our constantly expanding group with charm and ease. If your in town def a great place to stop in and grab a bite... This is for the airport location - seriously underwhelmed. It might actually turn me off of visiting the downtown location next time. Came to the airport early to eat here, felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff. Wait for food was very long, especially as it's an airport location. And the quality of the food was poor. The nachos that came out to a neighboring table after ours were delivered looked much better than what we received. Was not clean. Had a lot of staff in house, not a lot of patrons and they couldn't manage to sweep the floor. Go to the Relay and get yourself a bag of chips. Save your money. read more

Disappointing visit. Visited for dinner last night and place was busy for a Monday, but not busy enough for the experience we had. First off, the gluten free menu is a joke, it's basically a limited number of items with no bun or sauce. They should at least offer gluten free burger buns. Ordered the coconut curry mussels and they tasted like they were in chicken broth. No flavor. For gluten free, ordered the Quinoa salad and 20 minutes later, waiter told me they were out of quinoa? Then I ordered the kale salad and he said he'd add an egg to make up for it. No joke - 20 minutes later he came back and said they were out of boiled eggs and were making them now? It was unreal. The kale salad was a few kale leaves and melted cheddar - do not pay $13 for this! It was a poor experience made worse by how long I waited to eat a few kale leaves.
