Food was good, nice vibe to the place. It is really dark downstairs, so keep that in mind, but if you don't mind, the food is 10/10!

Ribs and burgers....they're so delicious. A nice juicy burger with just the right veggies and condiments is a marvel on it's own. Slow cooked ribs lathered with smokey bbq sauce....both sound delicious don't they? Now here's the kicker.... What about having them both, together, in a singular entree of perfection!? I can't describe how good it is because I'm too busy stuffing my face with it. Hahaa. Seriously though, that was one of the best burgers I've ever had. I still can't get over the fact that they put ribs on my burger (sans bones). It was pretty busy when we went (friday night!) but we were lucky to get in without a reservation. Service was pretty fast, the food was okay but nothing special. You can get either regular homemade fries or chips, I tried the chips and wasn't much of a fan; plus, they didn't serve them with any dipping sauce or ketchup. I was not very impressed with the food or the beer at Yellow Belly. Mediocre pub fare, nothing special and the beer at Quidi Vidi is far superior. The best thing I tasted was the curry mussels. Mussels in a curry cream sauce, pretty hard to mess up. Service was fine and the place is very roomy with a giant upstairs dining room. If mediocre pub fare is your thing then this is the spot for you! read more

Disappointing birthday celebration! Selected this restaurant as previous visits ( prepandemic) had always been great but left with group disappointed and regretting our decision. Whole experience from service, food quality, ambiance was sub par. Restaurant did not appear full ( vacant tables around us the whole time) and we felt our order was clearly forgotten about. Service was slow to start and appetizers were delicious but that's where it ended. After 1.5 hour wait for mains we just wanted to leave and most dishes were horrible. Actually, 2 people in our group did leave without their dinner. Server apologized and agreed the wait was unnecessary and appalled at the uncooked beef patty's served. Fries were clearly prepared well in advance and soaked too long in water. Pizzas were tasteless and burnt. Not sure why no manager on staff on a Sat night to express concerns to. We were asked to leave contact information and discounted for the uncooked burger. No offer to the birthday girl a desert or anything to try and make up for the evening. Would like to add some staff need reminders in precautions concerning preventing cross contamination.......ill end my review here. :( read more

Stopped in for a beer but we were too full from lunch for a snack. The menu is extensive and looks delicious, a great range of options. The beer on tap is brewed on site, which is cool. I tried the red and it was so heavy that I couldn't finish my single pint in a sitting. So I can't vouch for the beer. The walls are interested, rough old red brick and different kinds of stone, so it feels very historical. It's not a huge place, but a nice stop for a snack and drink on a night with nice atmosphere, I should think. The service was just ok, not super friendly, not super efficient, but the job got done eventually. read more

I ate here twice in the 4 days I was in St.John's and both times I was pleased with my food - the burger that has short ribs on top of the burger! What else do you want? Ribs on a burger. My only comment is that blue cheese can be overpowering and there were bites that it was. Fries were good. Service is good. The short ribs on nachos was very good too. I had the turkey taco pizza - I was a bit nervous about the choice. Let's face it - that was either going to be fantastic or horrible. And it was fantastic. The pretzel starter is also good - all kinds of buttery,doughy, salty goodness. And, of course, the beer. It was my first trip, so I tried the wheat (the less strong of them all). Nice new locale for downtown St. John's. Went with some friends early in the night, and were seated at a table upstairs. The upstairs section has a really nice atmosphere, and I believe it's where the main table service occurs for the dinner menu. Unfortunately the table where we were seated was really large, and we found ourselves yelling at each other across the way to have a conversation. I had their specialty beer, the pale ale, and it was really great, light, and flavorful. We split some sweet potato fries, which were also a nice change from the usual starters downtown St. John's. I would definitely recommend this brewery/restaurant as a nice place to go downtown before a night out with friends, and will be going back again, but probably to the downstairs, more pub-like feel. read more

Good value over all. I ordered the small mussels, spinach salad and mushroom and goat cheese pizza. The mussels were amazing, I was surprised at how many you got for the small size. The salad was subpar but the pizza was -prettay-prettay-prettay-prettay good. What I did find strange is that the Yellow Belly Brewery is that the location at the airport smelt like how Red Lobster used to smell, but the location I'm writing about did not. Great place to have a beer and lunch. The interior is rustic with an old world charm. The servers are welcoming and very friendly. We shared the deep fried pickles, best batter I have ever had. We also shared the Yellowbelly Burger and it was a hit. The only downside was the soggy fries. But all in all worth the stop. read more

What a great place! Went in for a pint and left with a history lesson. First, let me start with the beer and food. I had their pale ale which was astounding and then followed it up with the stout which was even better! I ordered the short rib nachos and they were so good. Way to much food for just me... Aaron, the bartender, told me the history of the building which is astounding. The bricks were brought over from Ireland dropped off then the vessel went to New England and got the timber and brought it back. The bricks and stone made it through two fires. Aaron took me into the basement (and throughout the whole building) where you can see the original beams that are charred from the fire. What a wonderful place and such history. I was here for an event, which was held in their upstairs space. The upstairs had its own bar, which was a great touch. The event was a cocktail reception with about 100 people. We fit in the space nicely, and there was a stage with a band as well. There was a variety of appetizers, all of which were spectacular. I was sticking to Caesars from the bar. They were well prepared, and the bartenders were all so friendly! The servers were also so nice, which is a standard that is so nice to grow used to in St. John's! read more

Visited Yellow Belly recently and won't be returning anytime soon. We ordered Onion rings as a starter and didn't receive any dipping sauce with them - who doesn't give dipping sauce with onion rings?! We weren't given any cutlery, plates or napkins until we requested them. I'm not sure how they expected us to eat our meal, especially with Covid going on. We ate down in the under belly but it was very cold and dark down there. It wasn't even a busy night, so there wasn't any excuse for the lack of service! read more

I really liked the old stone-wall interior. But the tables were far too close together... almost hard to squeeze your ass between them to sit in the booth. And from looking around I could tell they had a problem cleaning tables, which isn't cool. The fishcake trio from the appetizer menu was great!. It was interesting to have three very different tasting cakes. Very different... even the texture of all three were unique. I recommend them. We actually went to Yellow Belly because it was recommended as the best poutine (and wife LOVES poutine). But it was actually just meh: gravy was good, not enough cheese (curds), and kind of bland. read more

I ate here twice in the last three weeks. The first night I got the pizza and the second night I ordered the burger. The pizza was just okay... I think the oven temperature was a little too low as the crust was pretty soggy at the center of the pizza. The burger was okay... They should really grind their own meat and serve the burgers medium rare instead of serving an overbooked fry burger and trying to cover it up with fancy mayonnaise. Sweet potato fries were on point. The beers are all fine, the standouts for me were the stout and the red ale. When I come back to St John's I will probably stop here for a pint and eat elsewhere. service and atmosphere was good but the food was disappointing. Me and the person i was eating with both had a burger, my bun was soggy by the time i got it, the meat was basically in a ball not even close to the outsides of the bun and it was over done to the point where it was dry tough and chewy. The other burger was cooked fine however, the bun was so stale that it basically shattered once she had taken a bite out of it. The fries were also very soggy by the time they got to us. will not be returning in the future. read more

We were helped to our table in a prompt, polite, timely and efficient way and drinks were served in the same fashion. The waitress had really good knowledge of the building. However, everything fell apart there. We waited for at least 45 minutes for appetizers and the meal arrived an hour later. Once the crowd gathered the place became an echo chamber and we had to shout to each other across the table. That building could really use some sound baffles. On the better side, the beer was good and the food was (almost) worth the wait. read more

Friends of ours recommended this brewery after their visit. Upon our arrival and after getting seated we were not given menus, water or asked if we wanted other beverages in a timely fashion. It felt like we were being ignored. Eventually our beverage order was taken and was slow to arrive. The food was good but we had to ask another waitress if our order was ready, she returned with the order and it appeared to be a bother for her as we also asked for additional beverages. Those beverages never did arrive so we requested the tab to leave and this also took an unreasonable amount of time. During our visit we visited many other establishments for similar atmosphere that were very good and worth the price. In our opinion, the Yellow Belly Brewery very much fell short. We won't be back nor be inclined to recommend you to any of our fellow travellers. This was a very disappointing way to spend out last meal in our first visit to St. John's. read more

This is another pub found in the heart of St. John's downtown core. Similar to other great gems, it has a lot of exposed brick, big timber columns, and antiques to give it a cool gastropub feel. Unlike the the great gems, this place falls short. The place is more casual and affordable than other gastropubs. The unfortunate thing is the food definitely doesn't fare as well plus the service really suffers ... we had the most disorganized service in a long time. We were seated in the 2nd floor where the high ceilings and big windows gave us a great view of the downtown core. They have their own brew and most people at the table had a beer flight before ordering their favourites. We had several shared appetizers and the wings and nachos came quickly. They were fairly tasty and the nachos had several choices of sauce ... I didn't think they were great because I found it over the top salty. The next 30 minutes we sat just drinking without getting our mains. When we asked about them, the waiter looked puzzled, ran back, and never came back. We saw him nearly 5 minutes later taking orders for another table. We tried to flag him down but he seemed to avoid eye contact. Another 5 minutes pass by and finally several plates were headed our way. The waitress set the wrong dish in front of 5 people ... it was almost comical. After the 3rd try, we were trying to get her attention to give the plates to the right person! She STILL made a mistake. I ordered 2 appetizer but they were not good because they were cold! I had a bowl of mussels and they had no broth and no taste. It was a good thing I ordered the daily soup because I would stick the mussels into the semi warm soup to bring them up to temperature. The only redeeming item was the portion. It was fairly large. My dinner was not the best. Other people had ordered the steak, pizza, or the fish. Everyone complained that the side vegetables were limp, soggy, overcooked, and cold. The only person that said their meal was ok was a grilled chicken salad. To add insult to injury, when our large group asked for the coffee and dessert menu, our waiter brought the bill and informed us they ran out of dessert because the table that sat AFTER us took all the dessert. Unbelievable. It looks great but maybe only for a drink otherwise, save your stomach for a real place that can serve food well! read more

I've visited a few times now, but I'm not a huge fan. The atmosphere is great to sit and people watch on a nice day in downtown St. John's. My last visit was for brunch and I was not impressed with the selection of items on the menu, as the majority were breakfast foods and I had arrived after 12 noon. I did end up getting the fish and chips and enjoyed it. Service was great and staff attentive to those in the restaurant. read more

Great spot across from Merced Tavern on Water Street. Slipped in for a pint before supper and it was fantastic. Sat upstairs and tried the sampler pack first. Favourite brew is the Fightin' Irish Red Ale. The wife and I shared a bowl of coconut curry Mussels. It was a small but the portion size was huge and they were to die for. Had a great dinner with great service. While all the food is great ( including amazing onion rings), the pizza is exceptionally good. The crust is thin with a beautiful taste and texture. The food here was really awesome but goddammit Courtney sucks. She was annoying enough as a waitress but Jesus Christ she just kept singing. She looked like she was from a small town and moved to the big City to start an acting or singing career and was using waitressing as a jumping off point. Sorry hunny you're too ugly and one deaf. She acted like she thought singing in front of customers would one day pay off like her table would be a meeting of record labels and they would ask her to sign with them on the spot or something.
