The drinks were great and in cute glassware, very photo op friendly! At YellowBelly, we enjoyed the bok choy crunchy ramen salad, coconut shrimp, Nashville hot fried oysters, taquitos, and carrots. I absolutely loved the taquitos and would go back for more! My friends raved about the carrots as well. Many folks at our table got burgers with fries (the fries had a yummy spice on them, maybe gochuchang powder?). I had the green curry salmon - it was more rice than I expected and it was only 2 salmon bites, so a bit overpriced for what it was, but the green curry was very good - not too spicy but good flavor. This place is divine! I came here Thursday to meet three friends for dinner and drinks. While I've been here a total of three times, this was my first time getting there during happy hour, as our reservation was at 6. If you could believe it, it wasn't too packed AND I was able to find a metered parking spot across the street. Win! Upon being sat, we were greeted by Carrie and were quickly given water and menus. Most of my party had dined there a couple times and had a pretty good idea of what they wanted. Since we made it in time for happy hour, I opted for the Lost In N.Y. Sour. Aesthetically, the drink was so pretty. It had a nice, dark pink hue and was garnished with an edible flower. The drink itself was a little on the tart side but had a hint of sweetness. This was a nice change from the usual semi sweet cocktails I get. For starters, we opted for the coconut fried shrimp and the brussel sprouts. The shrimp had a nice crisp and was packed full of flavor. The brussel sprouts were accompanied by cauliflower kimchi and peanuts. The combination of the fish sauce, Thai chilli and lime made taste of the sprouts that much better. While I usually prefer them crispy, these still tasted great! For my entree and second drink, I went with the grilled salmon over spam fried rice and a mango tango. The traditional salmon dish comes with a spicy green Thai curry, but because I haven't quite built my palate up to handle that level of spice, Carrie let me get it plain! She also offered to let me get it over the spam fried rice, which i was hesitant but am so glad I did! The salmon was good, but there was one half of it that was a bit too pink for my liking. I decided against saying anything and ate the other half, which was cooked a bit more thoroughly. The rice had a mixture of pineapple, peppers, mushrooms, and tamari and was delicious! For the record, jasmine rice makes a difference! My mango tango reminded me more of an adult juice, which I would happily drink everyday if I could! It wasn't too sweet but was refreshing, and was exactly what I needed. Carrie's stellar service made the night that much better. Fun cocktails and delicious food! I went with some friends and we were greeted by friendly staff upon entering. We made reservations and were seated quickly. Yellowbelly has a fun and cozy atmosphere! There are SO many cocktails to choose from and they had some Halloween themed drinks as well. This is the place to get at least one cocktail! They also have a few beers, wines by the glass, bottles of wine and several non-alcoholic cocktails. I started with a Lazy Tiger served in a cute glass! It was deliciously smoky and spicy! We shared some of the small plates for appetizers - cheddar biscuits, charred carrots and Brussels sprouts and enjoyed them all! I loved their menu with categories of "cold", "snacks", on a Hawaiian sesame bun, small plates and large plates. It was nice to have such a variety of choices! I decided on the braised beet salad and chili glazed pork belly. Wow! Both were flavorful and the perfect amount of food! We came for date night and tried a few items on the menu to share. For drinks we ordered Yellowbelly, Saturn, Violet Mojito and Concrete Jungle. All of them were good but my favorite was the Yellowbelly - it was sweet without being over the top and I love the fun tropical glass and toppings! Our server was attentive without constantly being at our table. For food we shared oysters (and tried both flavors), a Salmon Tostada, Crab Fritters, beef fat French Fries, and a Rum Battered Fish Sandwich. Everything was really good and I'd be happy to come back and order the same things. The stars to me were the fish sandwich and the crab fritters. Six of us went to Yellowbelly on a Saturday night. Two of the six had been here before but it was the first time for the rest of us. It was crazy busy when we arrived and when we left! I highly recommend a reservation. It was loud with conversation and music, but not annoyingly so. I didn't have any trouble hearing people at our table. It was just a good vibe! Our server was good. She kept water glasses full, the drinks coming, etc. We enjoyed the food and drinks. I didn't take photos of everyone's food, but it all looked good. I felt like the biscuits were a little over cooked and a bit dry. My husband had the halibut and said it was really tasty, but the fish was a little over cooked. I heard about Yellowbelly when an acquaintance told me whenever anyone visited her, she brought them here. Despite this, the opportunity never presented itself and it took me three years before I had a chance to try out this gem myself. I started off with raw oysters in kimchi water & pickled daikon. The oysters were on the smaller side but what they lacked in size, they made up in flavor. The kimchi water gave the oysters a combination of spicy, tangy, and umami, with notes of sweetness and saltiness while the pickled daikon provided texture and a bit of crunch. The salmon was cook to perfection -- a medium-mildly rare, the fish was flakey and moist. The green Thai curry is described as 'spicy' on the menu, but I would rate it as a 2.5/5 on my capsaicin scale. The salmon was served on a bed of jasmine rice, parsnip, peppers, turmeric crunchies. I ate it all. My date had the grilled prime hanger steak. I had one bite of the koji-marinated steak. It was seasoned and also cooked perfectly. My salmon bowl was delicious, but I couldn't finish it because it was way too saucy. I never thought I'd type that about a piece of salmon, but it was really drenched in sauce. My husband's filet was equally as delicious. We splurged ($175 including a generous tip). We enjoyed ourselves, the atmosphere, and the food. Onto some shared appetizers. The coconut fried shrimp and the crab fritters. Everything was delicious but I always go for the coconut fried shrimp. Onto our main courses. Tonight was my first time at yellowbelly and I am a fan! We came to celebrate my friend's birthday, and they were really helpful in getting a reservation set up for us just a couple of days earlier. We ordered a variety of small plates to share as well as drinks. I personally had a caipirinha, but my friends ordered a variety of their special cocktails. Our server, Brandon, was very helpful when choosing drinks. Pro tip!! You can replace any spirit in a cocktail with a different spirit of your choosing (i.e. replace mezcal with tequila). Some of my friends chose to do this and were happy with this choice. They have a small menu, but it still felt like we had plenty of options. At first I thought it was too expensive, but all of the food and drinks were very high quality, so the price made more sense. I had the cheddar biscuits, sirloin skewers, and coconut shrimp. This restaurant has been on my list of places to try in the area. Finally, I made reservations for our Friday night dinner and off we went. The place isn't huge but they were bustling and the service was quick and attentive right from the start. We perused the menu and decided to try some cocktails. My husband ordered the Yellowbelly (PR and Jamaican rum, coconut, pineapple, turmeric, ginger and lime) and I had the Lion's share (bourbon, miso, passion fruit, sherry and lime). Both were delicious and unique. I was starving as I usually am and my eyes are bigger than my stomach so we ordered some cheddar biscuits and crab fritters. The cheddar biscuits came with shrimp butter and wow! That was amazing! The crab fritters were fine. For our entrée, my husband ordered some spam fried rice and a double cheese burger a la carte. I had the Moroccan spiced halibut. My husband had me try the spam fried rice. I thought it was okay, he thought the same. He really enjoyed his burger and I thought my halibut was great. I unfortunately made myself too full from the starters that I ended up bringing home the rest of my food. They reheated quite well the next day and made for a fabulous Saturday lunch. Overall, food was just OK, taste-wise nothing crazy, overpriced: I think because of they make them "good-looking". Some of the favourites are fries, they have some good spice and they were tasty. Not crunchy but not soggy either. Crab balls were really good. My friend liked his lobster dish. Oysters were not tasty even with all the other ingredients they added. Nashville fried ones were better but not the best. Well, finally, their cocktails are really good! Some maybe too sweet so ask server, they help. I ordered Cold Shoulder and Notorious F.I.G and they are not sweet, easy to drink, despite the hard liquors like whiskey or mezcal in it. I usually get headache after drinking cocktails like these but I was feeling just fine afterwards. I really enjoyed trying this restaurant! I am vegetarian so it was nice to see multiple vegetarian/vegan options, and they also had plenty of options for my gluten-free friends out there, as well! Yellowbelly is my favorite spot in the Central West End. The vibes are laid back and casual, perfect for a relaxed night out. The food is consistently great. I recommend the oysters, salmon skewers, and lobster roll. The drinks are unique and tasty (the lazy tiger is my fave). read more
