A few years later I had a nervous breakdown and the hospital didn't know what to do with me. I quickly thought of mission house and the owners were very quick to welcome me back and help me get back to stable. Within 6 weeks I was starting to feel like myself again. I found the set up of the house fabulous, with plenty of personal accountability but also excellent accommodations compared to half a dozen treatment centers I've been to. Nice appliances, very attentive house managers and open invitations to join in house events and socializing. There's a kitchen if you cook and everyone gets fridge and pantry space. Everyone is expected to be doing the twelve steps and I quickly learned that step study wasn't as terrifying as I first felt! There is a lot of great support for people to find their own way but with an expectation that they be rigorous in their program of recovery. None of it happens without people and resources saying they are available all along the way. The care is really peer to peer focused on individuals with alcohol addiction. I am dual diagnosis (mental health and drugs) and felt very welcome and found the 12 Steps to be incredibly helpful. The parallels between alcohol addiction and my mental illness were astonishing. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong unless you don't really want to get better.

Hands Down the Best Mental Health Program Out There…read more I can't say enough good things about Elevations Behavioral Health. It's hands down the best mental health care I've ever experienced. The setting is incredible -- beautiful houses, exercise equipment, pools, jacuzzis, and so many community resources. They even take you on outings to the Pacific Ocean to watch sunsets -- and yes, you *will* see dolphins! From the residential program to the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), every detail is thought through. The Santa Monica Mountains surround you, and the views are so breathtaking you can sit for hours just taking it all in and really feel yourself start to heal. The food is next level too -- they have a private chef who customizes meals to fit your diet and treatment needs, with tons of healthy options. And unlike most places, you get both individual and group therapy *every day*. That's almost unheard of at a residential program -- usually you're lucky to get one or two individual sessions a week. The staff and therapists are absolutely amazing -- they genuinely care and don't let you give up on yourself. If you're struggling, please know you're not alone. I completed a program at All in Solutions in Simi Valley Ca…read more Detox is pure hell. You can't update your family for several days. They treat you like a prisoner. They lured me out to California, from Maryland. Told me they would cover my travel BOTH ways. Come to find out, about 24 hours into the program .. if you want to go home on their dime, you must complete the program. I was told I would have my own room. I did not. They ripped me off of a sleep med that I had been on for 15 years... never once abusing, and they threw me into a room with a stranger. Im AUDADHD, I have severe mental illness. Some linked to trauma over things that happened to me in my sleep. *speaking of, they took me off stimulates. They are a controlled substance, dont ya know. Doesn't matter that I have been on them since I was 6 years old. No taper. Hard withdrawal. I went to the emergency room bc of it. So there I am, stuck in California... no promise of a good night's rest. I have several chronic illnesses. They completely ignored the fact that getting enough sleep is the only way I can function and learn. You have to go to 6-8 hours of class 5 days a week . Again, chronically ill. I have not maintained a 35 hour work week in over 10 years. No accommodations were made for me. Despite going all the way to Debbie (manager of program). I suffered through the program, came home..... absolutely zero follow-up. Absolutely zero direction as to what comes next. Im sure this program works for some. But if you have mental illness or other chronic illness... Search elsewhere I ended up going to the psych ward to get my meds straightened back out. Oh and I still dont drink alcohol. Which is why I was there. But I do not give that credit to AIS. Thats all me.
