WOW! Flavor bomb!!! The taste is simply AMAZING! The lamb Fahsah with Rashoosh bread is a match made in heaven. The red snapper is perfectly cooked and the rice is perfectly seasoned. (The fish takes 30mins to cook but worth it!) Even the house salad is perfectly seasoned. Everything here is well seasoned and perfectly cooked but that's also why it takes a bit to come out. This isn't a fast food place but the food is worth the wait! The service is also great. Our waitress asked in what order we want our food to come due to our 30min fish, which was considerate. The interior is nothing fancy and has a super casual and maybe a little bit run down vibe but it adds to the charm. The parking lot is shared with nearby Smart & Final and Roundtable Pizza so parking can fill up, just be patient or try the side streets. We saw this place on TikTok and decided to give it a try. We went on a Saturday so we knew they would be busy. This place is in a shopping center so parking wasn't bad. The place is nice and open and plenty of seating. We ordered one plate was chicken and rice and another was chicken and skewers. We also ordered this giant bread not sure what it was called. They make things fresh so go with patience. They gave us a soup that was as lamb broth. It was very rich and flavorful. Our food came and the portions are generous so really like that. Yemen Cafe is really a hidden gem tucked away in a nondescript strip mall next to Smart&Final. Right when we walked in, we can tell we were in a good place with the nice aroma of grilled meats and mysterious spices. Looking around, we saw impressive plates of food at the other tables, especially the huge rashoosh bread. After perusing their large menu(thankfully with photos), we made our order for rashoosh bread(of course), lamb fahshah, Fatoosh salad, shish kabob combo, hummus with chicken shawarma, and half grilled chicken. For drinks, we got the mango juice and mofawar coffee. We were told that the grilled chicken would be a half hour wait, but we were OK with that. After a little bit of wait, the fattoush salad came. We asked for individual plates to share the salad. The salad was tangy and crispy and very refreshing. It was quickly consumed, but our plates never came. It was the first of several service misses during our meal. From other Yelp reviews we were informed of the potential long wait for food, so we were prepared, but were still pleasantly surprised when one of the server brought out a plate of falafel and hummus and told us it is on the house. Apparently they knew that diners can grew antsy with the wait time so I think it is very thoughtful of them to offer customers something while they wait. We devoured the falafel and the excellent hummus. Before long the huge rashoosh bread came, followed by the steaming hot bowl of lamb fahsah. The rashoosh bread was soft and flaky, and great with the lamb fahsah, which was slightly spicy but incredibly flavorful. Then came the shish kabob combo. The meats and vegetables were perfectly grilled, and the seasoning was excellent. The amount of herb infused rice was plentiful for our family of 4. The chicken shawarma with hummus was wonderful. Lastly, the grilled half chicken came. It was probably the best grilled chicken I had ever had, the smoky grilled taste was intense, and the meat remained tender and moist. The kids enjoyed their mango juices, and I liked my mofawar coffee with cream and cardamom. Yemen was the birthplace of coffee and they have a poster on the wall to educate patrons on the history and migration of coffee. I loved how Yemeni coffee is now enjoying an immense popularity with their unique flavor profile which can include cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon. In the past I have to trek to SF for middle eastern style coffee so I am very glad to have a place to go to near my home. While we enjoyed our meals immensely, we wished that the service would be more consistent. We had asked for knifes to cut the shish kabob and grilled chicken, and we had to ask 3 different servers before we finally got them. On the other hand, the servers did came to our table on several occasions to ask us if we needed anything. It is just that when we did ask for something, they tend to forget, due to how busy the place is. Overall, we are glad that Yemen Cafe is in our little corner of Richmond, and we plan to come again, especially to try their incredible offerings of craft coffee and desserts. read more

Inside is an adorable cafe area where you can either sit at small tables or seated on the ground to share pastries or coffee. We wanted lunch so we didn't sit there this time, but it looked like such a vibe. The mango juice is more of a smoothie with some seasoning on the inside. It took a little while to get to us, but it tasted super fresh, like they just picked it off the tree! They gave us some lamb soup and that warmed me up right away! Although we all kept dropping the lemon in it. The fattoush salad was so crispy, tangy, savory and good. One of the best fattoush salads I've ever had. I had the fahsah and bread (I forgot the name! I think it begins with an r?). I was not prepared for how much bread it had. It was so fluffy and yummy. The fahsah was kind of like a lamb birria. But shredded like carnitas. Super flavorful and delicious. HIGHLY recommend. We also tried the kebabs and chicken shawarma and WOW. The rice with those were delicious. Some of the best rice I've ever had. Super yummy and delicious. The hummus was also great. The server was really helpful is helping us decide what to order since this was quite new to us and we were happy with everything! This has been on my list of places to eat for quite some time. Finally got the chance to grab a bite to eat with my son, and it was delicious. He's a picky eater but gave the chicken shawarma and hummus two thumbs up. He's especially liked the Yemeni bread, claiming it was the best bread ever. I ordered a breakfast dish, white beans with egg, tomato, and garlic. It was savory and filling, also very good with the bread. First time here, heard about the spot on FB we had realized the place used to be an Indian restaurant. Which was also good. But apparently this Yemen cafe opened up 8 months ago according to the server. I didn't catch her name but she was friendly and very helpful. Food was worth every cent. We had plenty leftover. I'm so grateful this place opened up in our neighborhood. I didn't know it had opened up since the end of last year, but I wish I had known sooner. The restaurant itself is very cute, I love the interior, it feels cozy, and very much embodies being both a cafe and a restaurant well. We got the big thing of bread whose name I'm blanking on, the fahsah with chicken; and the chicken shawarma plate. We also got iced chais and left with some mango juice. Incredible. The shawarma was great, the chicken was cooked to perfection with fantastic flavors. The rice was also incredible and bursting with flavor too. The salad, which I am usually indifferent to as a side, was delicious and complimented the plate. The hummus was refreshing, delicious without being overbearing. They also had an in house hot sauce that was amazing on everything! The rashoosh bread was amazing. We aren't short of delicious bread in our neighborhood, but this really stood out. Honestly, one piece could easily be good for 4-5 people and it complimented both our entrees. The fahsah was also delicious. It was like a stew, very hot at first so you have to get it time, but then perfect to pair with the bread. I not only really liked the flavor, but even after having long finished the bite, the flavor kept building up. Fantastic, truly, I'm still tasting it as of this review lol. The iced chais were so good, my only complaint is I wish I had more in a single sitting. A lot of flavor, it tastes like a desert, and it compliments the heat of the food in my opinion. The mango juice was also really good. Outside of the flavors, the portions were generous. For us, these easily doubled as lunch and dinner for each entree. The sizes with the quality and at the price makes this place feel like a steal. You get a good amount you can easily share for a pretty great price. It's also a case of where the more people you probably bring, the cheaper the bill just because of how shareable all the dishes are. It was just the two of us, but the bread again could've easily been great for five, and it just means we have amazing leftovers to look forward too. The parking lot is a little bit of a challenge, but don't let it deter you from checking this place out, it's definitely tucked into the back of the plaza though it's easily one of the best things in the area. Don't skip out on the coffee either! The lamb fahsah was very delicious and almost like a stew with beautiful deep flavor. The spices were everything! Enjoying the Jubani coffee was so good as mine had cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom. I also tried the Yemeni Qahwah which is ginger and cardamom which tasted much lighter and the ginger really shined! The service was great the young lady that works there made some great recommendations. I had the falafel plate and a gyro. My friend had the beef with rice plate. But the star of the show was THE BREAD!!! Caution it is HUGE for one person to eat but the poppy seeds, the fluffy ,crispness, warm and fresh taste is amazing!! Definitely recommend to check it out!! First, let me lead with the fact that I had never eaten Yemeni food before going to Yemen Cafe. When my friends and I entered the Cafe we were greeted warmly. After explaining that we'd never eaten Yemini food before, the greeter was excited to introduce us to it. It did not disappoint. The flavors were amazing and whilst we were waiting for our food, which was freshly prepared, we watched and Lear how to eat it from other patrons. The experience was good overall. It was also educational. There are beautiful pictures of Yemen everywhere. One poster even explained Yemen and the history of coffee. That's the only thing I didn't try; the coffee, and Yemen, I learned, is famous for its coffee. On my next visit I'll go early enough in the day to enjoy that. What a gem! Was looking for lunch and was so pleased to find this restaurant. The service was friendly and the food was delicious! I was able to try the chicken shawarma, rise, and salad and of course the bread. It was all five stars! The venue is a little cold but they have a space heater so I asked them to start it up and it warmed me up right away. The Yemeni latte was also delicious! It was flavored with cinnamon and cardamom.
