You guys won't even believe what all goes on in this business. I know a former employee and current and have witnessed all of this myself. First and foremost, it could be a 100 degrees and they have their AC set to 83 to "save money." The way management treats their employees are also ridiculous! The owner (male) sits at the bar in Bippy and cusses out the servers all day in front of customers as that is so unprofessional as they're already working in hot weather AND hot indoor temps. Second..... the craziest part lol. I've seen a server take a cigarette break, come back in, and grab the side dishes with her bare hands and straight out to the tables. Also! Witnessed THE SAME server eat leftovers from the tables after they had left. There's so much more to cover, but needless to say, I will be reporting this to the MD health department of health complaints. This is just disgusting behavior as a restaurant. read more

Good food but very slow service. I've been here a few times and service always seems to be lacking. I'm not sure if they are short staffed but the staff there seems to be working very hard. The assortment of banchan that they provide is good. This was my first time getting cabbage with a side of fermented bean sauce and it was really good. Seafood pancake: overall good but may not be the best I've had. It's a good size for the price and definitely shareable with friends. Fried fish with bean sprouts: I'd give this 5/5. We've come to this establishment on several occasions over the years. It was not until recently that we found out that they are open on Saturday mornings at 8.30AM. Sometimes we want to go out for breakfast/brunch but aren't feeling pancakes and bacon. This was a great treasure to find. The story behind opening earlier than others, apparently, is for those that had a late night and wake up with a hangover =) Service was on the slower side, since they don't expect many patrons that early (we came at 8:30) and they, themselves, also showed up at 8:30. Plus, I think they're just used to going at their own pace, which is fine. You're not waiting a terribly long time, but it's not the fastest. There is a tiny bit of a language barrier, but other than those things, service was great. We got the Dogani Tang (ox knee tendon soup) and the Mandoo Guk (dumpling soup). Both flavorful broths, comforting on a chilly morning. The dogani tang had plenty of tendons; the mandoo was very filling. The price was good for delicious home-style cooking. read more

You know it's a traditional Korean restaurant when the decor is as nice as Yet Nal's and the bonchon that can be purchased at the front are only written in Korean. I did come with two friends that were able to order the dishes while speaking Korean. I briefly read over some previous reviews, and can understand that the service has likely been inconsistent. I'd be lying if I said that the good service wasn't related to the fact that I was with Korean friends. If I went myself (as someone that can't speak Korean), I may experience service differently. I loved the variety in the bonchon we got at our table, some ones I've never had before at a restaurant, like the acorn jelly! Also, the kimchi was one of the best I've had! We also got iced barley tea as our drink, and it was very refreshing and a good substitute for water. We ordered 4 dishes for 4 people to share: ox bone soup, military stew, seafood pancake, and bulgogi over rice. The ox bone soup was my favorite - the broth was rich and flavorful! This one you have to add salt and pepper to taste, which I appreciate as people can have different preferences in saltiness! The seafood pancake was also very tasty. I'm not a big seafood person but this dish was also a favorite of mine! The military stew was a little too sour for my taste, and the bulgogi was just okay to me! Maybe the cook is different but how does one forget twice that someone is allergic to shrimp? I couldn't eat 3 of the dishes that we asked not to have shrimp in. I have neem here befire and loved the food and the attention paid to service... but it was way slower than last time, and they decided not to pay attention at all and serve shrimp 3x. You almost have to expect bad service each time you walk in here. It's notorious for being rude to customers, blatantly ignoring you if you're not in your upper 60s with a reverent 'stache or some telltale sign that you're of social importance. No other restaurant I've gone to has made you feel so small. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when I came with a big party after a funeral. The waitress got very upset with three members that came 5-10 minutes late and "disturbed" the seating arrangement. She openly shamed my cousins and uncle, even refusing to take their orders after they sat down. Many of my friends have had similar experiences. They've been mistreated, scolded or ignored for being young, adding another person after being seated or other miscellaneous reasons. I used to tolerate their service because food here is decent. Really good Korean food. Every time I go here, I love everything that I order. They have an enormous raw fish rice bowl, a delicious potato stew with huge chunks of meat and lots of flavor, and they have really good rolls. I wanted to try their sashimi platter and it was pretty good. It came with fresh raw fish, but I didn't really enjoy their salmon because it was way too chewy. I left all their salmon untouched. I would probably ask them not to include the salmon next time. The sashimi platter came with marinated raw crabs, eel California rolls, sushi, and a spicy fish stew. I kept looking for the nice lady, but she was always busy. But that's ok as long as I have good food and she doesn't bother me. I had Spicy monkfish dish and fish roe soup. Let me tell you that I had a good time having soju with old friend and having such good food!!!! Can't complain and will come back next time I'm in town again. Yay, I feel going up in rating, for once! (No, that's not true. There actually have been a number of business that exceeded my initial, and secondary, expectations and and had me coming back as a loyal customer! Great job to those guys!) Yet Nal House is, well, just a good ol' reliable restaurant for authentic Korean food and feel, in the Ellicott City neighborhood. Prices are very reasonable. The service kind of sucks. (Yes, the women who serve are pretty rude and unavailable many times, but honestly, that's to "western/American" standards or "expectations " of what food service means. Korean restaurants commonly have this type of service from the old days and the old country... but I'm definitely seeing that change in the new renditions of Korean restaurants popping up from younger chef and business owners!) The food, however, is perfectly unchanged and consistent. (Please keep whoever works in the kitchen there! Keep giving them fair wages and a good work environment for them to count on, because you guys are always rocking at whatever comes from behind the kitchen doors!) This is one of my all time favorite Korean food restaurants. The food is great! I love their stews. They have a good selection of sushi and sashimi. Their selection of sushi is not only large but loaded with great flavors. I also love their sushi rice. It is a rice dish with chucks of sashimi, lettuce, sesame oil, fish eggs and fresh garlic. It's then topped with a red chili paste. It's a healthy dish loaded with great flavor. It is fresh and perfect with any of their stews. I love Korean food so this place is great to get a vast array of Korean food and they serve tons of Japanese dishes as well. This can also be the restaurants downfall. Because the restaurant tries to cater to so many different dishes, they lack some authenticity in some of their dishes. For example, their Korean seafood noddles, are made with premade instant noddles. Since the restaurant tries to create a vast array of dishes they don't have a focus on some of their dishes. The other downfalls to this restaurant is that I wish it was a larger restaurant and I wish the service was less rushed and more attentive. Whenever I order and eat here I feel very much rushed to finish eating. I also would like to get water more often instead of having to constantly ask for water throughout my time here. The service is friendly don't get me wrong, I just wish it was a bit more attentive. This meaning I wish that the servers come to the table to check in with us. It was my first time visiting this restaurant. I order Bossam (season boiled pork), Tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and Haejangguk (hangover soup) all of them was delicious. They have the best Bossam I've ever eaten. The meat is well season. I also like their Tteokbokki not too spicy and the rice cake isn't too chewy. The Haejangguk is full of flavor. This is a very standard Korean restaurant - it offers a pretty comprehensive menu of standard Korean eats (eg. traditional Korean soups/stews, Korean pancakes, bulgolgi, etc) in addition to Japanese sushi options. I tried a Korean style sashimi bowl, which consisted of sashimi served over rice and salad, topped with a delicious Korean hot sauce. It was delicious and the portion was pretty generous. I sampled a friend's gamjatang, which was pretty decent as well. As a non-Korean person, I had never heard of this restaurant but came here with a few friends because our Korean friend said she liked this place. Apparently the name means "Long Ago", and as some other yelpers have said, the restaurant has a rustic feel and serves traditional Korean cuisine. The menu was in Korean with minimal English translations and no pictures, so it was difficult to decide on a dish. My friend recommended the "hwae dup bap", which apparently translates to "rice covered in raw fish". My other friends ordered the omu-rice and the dolsot bibimbap. Also, the water they serve is a Korean barley tea water thing. We were all fine with it so we didn't ask, but I'm sure you could ask for normal water if you wanted. When the food arrived, I was surprised at the size of my dish (the hwae dup bap). It was in a metal bowl a little bit bigger than a typical large soup bowl, served with a squeeze bottle of "gochujang" - Korean chili sauce. As I dug in, I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion of fish. However, I thought there was too much lettuce. I'm not one to complain about salads or veggies, but I felt like the lettuce was endless and eventually I found myself navigating around it to find my fish. The omu-rice is an egg omelette filled with fried ketchup rice. Two of my friends ordered it. One was satisfied with it and said she would give it 3.5 stars, and the other was very dissatisfied because she thought the ketchuppy sauce would come separate, but it came poured all over the dish. My friend with the dolsot bibimbap was very satisfied and said it was one of the best he's had. Service is not super attentive, but it's easy enough to flag down a waitress if you want something. read more

Girlfriend and her whole family came to Yet Nal after a funeral and were treated terribly. Waitress got upset when four members of the family arrived 10 minutes later than the rest and "messed up" the seating arrangement by having two parents switch tables so that the children could sit together. Waitress refused to take the late family members' orders and instead told them to order through other people/tables whom she hadn't taken an order for yet. When the food came out, she again made a stink and said that if the parents hadn't moved from their original seats, things would be so much simpler for her. Never mind that the family was bringing in a lot of cash to the restaurant and also just coming from a funeral.. the waitress had the worst attitude and threw the food down in a huff. Being that it's in Ellicott City, there are numerous little Korean restaurants in the area. This was my first time here and I was super impressed with the restaurant and, more importantly, the food. Korean restaurants are pretty much the same for the most part as far as their menus are concerned. You got you kimchi dishes, Korean bbq, as well as other popular dishes. While this restaurant has the same kinds of dishes, they also have a variety of traditional/old style dishes as well. The name of the restaurant translates into "yesterday's restaurant" meaning that the dishes they serve are reminiscent of older days in Korea. They have a couple Military style dishes where it's a hodgepodge mix of pretty much anything. They also have some really traditional Korean dishes that you probably won't find at other Korean restaurants. The restaurant itself is very clean and cozy looking. It's kinda tucked away in a strip mall so you'd probably drive right past it if you didn't know it was there. Staff is really friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant is just very comfortable. For those wanting an authentic taste of Korean food should definitely come here for a meal. read more

Although there are a lot of other Korean restaurants in this area, I would come back here for some of the sweet/spicy chicken and soybean paste soup. The store itself is fairly small and hidden and always seem to have an issue seating people. Once seated, they are pretty quick with their service. The staff members are friendly but it could be because I speak Korean to them. Another thing to note is that they provide ample amount and variety of side dishes. Not the best sides dishes in the world, but the variety is good. They will give you wheat or barley tea as water, so if you do not like that, you will need to manually ask for clear/tap water. Overall, I would recommend for anyone looking for some authentic Korean food. Be aware that Korean foods are typically mid to high priced and this place is not the cheapest. My boyfriend and I went here for a casual Sunday lunch. This was my firs time here but my boyfriend has been here many times. I feel like this was more on the authentic side for Korean food. The setting is almost identical to the restaurants I visited while in Seoul. Also, the menu has very little English, so there isn't much of a description. I LOVE THE TEA. The banchan was a lot better than most places I've been to because of the variety and flavor. We started with tteokbokki which was okay. I chose the bibimbap and my boyfriend got seolleongtang. This is my go-to place when I'm craving yangnyeom chicken. The portion is huge and always end up having to bring home leftovers. The chicken is nice and crispy and is very flavorful. The chicken isn't overly greasy and the radish that comes out with the chicken compliments the flavor nicely. I also always order doenjang jjigae, or soybean paste stew. The taste can be hit or miss sometimes but compared to other places theirs is one of my favorites. Other places tend to over season their doenjang jjigae too much but this place flavored it nicely, and it comes with a good amount of zucchini and potatoes (my favorite parts). The only reason why I give 3 stars instead of 4 is that their service could be a little better. There have been a few times when I rang the bell for a waitress and it took multiple rings for someone to come. I'm a little more understanding when it's busier but I came here once with a group of friends on an early weekend afternoon when it wasn't that busy and still had trouble getting a waitress' attention. It is no surprise to see that there are already reviews of the inconsistency of the quality of service as well the quality of the food. I want to warn anyone who has any food allergies to stay away from here. I have a niece who has anaphylactic nut & sesame seed allergies so when my parents ordered platter of rice cake specifically stating the seriousness of the nut allergies and making sure that the rice cake they ordered must not have any sesame seeds, to our detriment the entire order was filled with sesame seeds. I was extremely mad because she was the first to take a bite and realized there was sesame seeds. She spat it out and we watch for reaction and whether we would need to take her to the hospital or administer an epidermic shot. Thankful she spat it out and there was no reaction. It could have been very serious & life threatening but the fact the restaurant completely ignored the customer's specific request and took the order for the sake of a sale or making money. I have serious issues as others could be put into unknown/unexpected dangers. Sure people can avoid this restaurant but the principle issue is that restaurant proprietor, chef and servers are putting people in unnecessary danger. Overall, good food at reasonable price with decent service. I live close by and I come here often. It may not be the best Korean places nearby in terms of decoration, presentation and location, but it offers great values with big flavors. Do not let odd location and the dingy exteriors fool you. The dishes here have good portion and the flavors are always full. There are also a couple dishes I can not find at other Korean resturants in this area. Believe me, I have been to a lot of them in Metro DC areas. I like to order chicken soup, fried yellow croaker and bossam. Dolsot bibimbap is excellent as well. For some reason, when searching for Korean food in Ellicott City, this place rarely show up in Google Search or in Yelp. I think they block this place or something.
