One of the best Indian restaurants in California, in a wonderfully charming part of the forest near Jack London State Park. Luckily we arrived before 5pm otherwise we were told the tables were all reserved. All the dishes were delicious but the garlic naan and lamb korma were truly something else. Hopefully we can have a chance to visit again. Unfortunately though I had to take 1 star off for their undisclosed use of nuts, including peanuts in the shrimp biryani. It really should be listed on the menu but it was not. Luckily my son (who is allergic to peanuts) didn't ingest one and we stopped him from eating the dish once we noticed it had more than just cashews. read more

The location of this restaurant is beautiful... They have ample parking and a view of the river... We have been visiting Glen Ellen a few times and as Indian food lovers, we where exited to finally visit Yeti. We have come across epic Indian food places...So we expected to be blown away by a Michelin Indian place. But, the experience was extremely underwhelming... As we arrived for lunch, there was no hostess at the front. We had to go in and signal the cooks, whom called the hostess to assist us. After being seated, she gave us paper menus. They were WRINKLY and STAINED with food. (With even chunks of dried old food) That was very gross. We ordered: mutter paneer, malai kofta,garlic cilantro naan and rice. Both curries were very bland. Sauces tasted like the curry sauce jars you buy at the store. No layers of flavor what so ever. These dishes were made with a very americanized no seasoning flavor. The naan was good and fresh. The rice felt "day old and reheated". It was very disappointing. That dirty menu should have been a red flag for "a lack of care". Food would not terrible, for those who like extremely super mild flavors or who does not like a pinch of heat. By the way, I usually order mild spice level. The server never asked for spice level. So I assume they serve it like this as a standard. It was way too mild and bland even for us, who love flavor but not a lot of heat. The good: Location is pretty. Food came fast. Naan bread was the best thing we ate. Compared to other many other places, the portions were small, there was no depth of flavor, food came without rice (charged extra for a cup) attention to detail was laking... Not returning, unless I get a notice that the Michelin judge will visit... that day, they will do better. read more

On our way to Jack London park, we spotted a little candy shop. Being sugar addicts, my fiancee and I popped in, and while chatting with the clerk, were steered to having lunch at Yeti. Definitely a correct decision! The restaurant is truly beautiful, but the food is where it shines. My fiancee ordered the Tandoori chicken, a very classic Indian cuisine. What came out was beyond what you'll typically get at so many other Indian restaurants! First off, the portion was downright ridiculous, it was darn near half a chicken, and a fair sized chicken. The spices were great. I ordered a lamb curry (Rogan Josh), which was a little bit small, I'll admit, but it more than made up for it with its flavour. Just slightly spicy, and truly delicious. Our only complaint, it seems like the old building that houses the restaurant isn't exactly climate controlled. The naan is quite unusual and comes in varieties. Chicken dishes are many, in curry and in Tikka form, and speaking of curry there is sure to be one that will surely curry your favor. Since most Americans have not tried Himalayan food, it's good to consult with the server for advice on how these dishes are prepared and their level of spicyness. Try it! UPDATE Been there a couple more times and taking off a star, could maybe even go down to 3, but the setting is really special so sticking to 4 ... for now. Really the quality seems to somewhat depend on the day, maybe as a function of who's cooking. Last time we went, the very same ice cream I effectively described as other-worldly below was really bad. Not the creamy consistency from before but just horrible. I asked about that and the answer was very vague, partly because most of the staff (is super nice but) really don't speak very good English. Similar experience with the consistency of other dishes. Overall, the consistency of experience really could be better. ORIGINAL Love this place. Been here maybe 5-10 times since we moved to the area and it's always been a good experience. I really love the setting - in a quaint spot by the creek. Old (historic?) and certainly rustic building with walls painted in funny colors that makes you feel like you're somewhere in Nepal - or how I imagine a restaurant in Nepal might look like anyway. The food is great, too. Last night we had an eggplant dish among other things, which was very good, but what stood out were two things: the olive-basil naan bread (so fluffy and tasty) and the home-made pistachio ice cream (wow, the consistency ...) - both were truly rare, outstanding experiences. They were pretty busy, last night, and in general the service can be a bit "erratic" at times. For example, you might get the same questions asked 2x by different staff. But you ultimately get what you order without too much wait, and everybody is very friendly and happy to give you a pleasant visit, so I personally don't mind that at all. Where do I even start - If I could give Yeti 1,000 stars.. I would in a heartbeat! After a day on the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley, all I wanted was to sit down and have an amazing meal.. and WOW.. Yeti delivered! This ranks as one of the top two meals I've EVER had! If I lived closer, I'd be eating here every single day! Shout out to my amazing husband for suggesting Indian cuisine and finding this gem! If you are staying in downtown Sonoma, you are in luck, Yeti is less than a 15 minute drive and is located in the Jack London Village in Glen Ellen. Pass the initial entrance as it's sometimes a bit over crowed and go to the second one as there will be more than enough parking. Jack London Village is a pretty cool spot - Restaurants, Art Galleries, Wine Tastings and a history exhibit - If you have the time, take a walk around the village; they also have beautiful sculptures scattered around the grounds. Since you will be in a common space, there are shared bathrooms for the entire village - This may sounds corny but the cleanliness of the restrooms impressed me as most "shared" bathrooms are a little.. rough.. too say the least - These are super clean (and given that we are still in the middle of a pandemic, this made me feel very comfortable). The service here's just impeccable and we were very impressed. When we came through the front door in order to be seated, the whole team was in the open kitchen and immediately smiled {yes, you can tell even with a mask on}, and welcomed us in. She gave us some recommendations based on what we said we were craving, checked in on us the perfect amount and took our dining experience to the next level with her kindness. We wanted to split two entree's so we each picked one that we knew the other would enjoy - Man, oh man.. my mouth is watering just thinking about these dishes. First up {The Hubs choice}, the Tandoori Chicken - Perfectly cooked Chicken that has been marinated overnight in Ginger, Yogurt and Garam Masala and served on a sizzling plate of Onions, Peppers and Broccoli. The second entree {my pick - and the one I'm still drooling over}.. Drumroll, please.. The Chicken Tikka Masala! An amazing spiced Chicken in a pan fried Cream Sauce of Onions, Garam Masala, Butter Cream, Paprika and Tomatoes topped with Scallions - Get a side of Basmati Rice to go along with this - You'll Love the Combo with the Tomato-Based sauce! Absolutely delicious food in a peaceful, natural setting with friendly service. We had the aloo gobi, saag paneer, and jasmine rice for two. Food wowed us with intense flavor (not spicy but still awesome). Servings are small but the taste is SO good I'm not even complaining (consider it built-in portion control for me not to overeat). Food is average if you are looking for to-go. Would not recommend for dine in as did not feel covid safe. The tables are pretty close to each other, and on our visit we found boisterous crowds from a day of wine drinking moving the chairs all over the place which made me uncomfortable. The chicken momos, dal soup and rice were great. When we asked if we could start with a few items and add more the server seemed pretty angry and said the kitchen was busy so we should order everything together -smh.. This place is still as fabulous as our last visit. Can't fault the yummy food. We ordered malai kofta and Navratna Korma and asked them to make it spicy. They did make it spicy! Naan was as soft and fresh as I remembered and this is still one of the best naans I have ever had. We tried honey butter, garlic, masala kulcha and butter naan and they were hugeee and fresh. Veggie momos were great too. Today was a very cold rainy day and this restaurant is old building with no heat. They had a couple of heaters but it was still drafty and cold. I ordered extra potatoes and instead, they gave extra to my wife and shorted her eggplant curry the eggplant. A generous 10% discount was the compensation for the lackluster experience. What a great find!! We discovered this gem of a restaurant when looking in Glen Ellen! The restaurant can't be quainter since it's in the Jack Location Village complex - a bonus if you ask me!! Our waiter was friendly and efficient. He was the only one serving and the restaurant was hopping!! Now the food was very yummy. We started with chai and papadums! Then my husband had the lamb vindaloo and I had the saag paneer. I requested not very spicy and they got that right! Had a wonderful meal here at the Glen Ellen location. I had envisioned in my mind's eye that sitting on the patio-deck overlooking the mill side creek-bed would be a summertime delight. Hmm! Well! It depends upon the weather and the time of day. My siblings and I got to Yeti at Glen Ellen just before 4 pm and the afternoon sun was hot even with the table umbrellas up. Fortunately we found a table in the shade and a bit of a breeze was stirring. But if we do this again I think it best to be there later in the evening when the summer sun isn't so intense. If you like patio dining or cocktails on the deck, this location is nice. This part of Glen Ellen is a treat. It's mellow and has a gentle rustic ambiance. The food was delicious. The lamb kabob is tasty but not as tender as the Chicken Tiki Marsala. The steamed dumplings were tasty but I think that's more of an acquired taste. I will have to try them again to catch the flavors all by themselves. Some of the sauces served with the dumplings are very spicy-hot. We all agreed the Nan bread and the papadams (a lentil tortilla) were outstanding! Rice, eggplant and potatoes were yummy! Cocktails were good. But I think for the price it's a better deal to get a glass of wine or a beer. Yeti has a good selection of wines & beers, including a non-alcoholic beer and sparkling wine. I enjoyed a glass of Gloria Ferrer. We concluded our dinner for 4 with some dessert. We all shared the Kulfi (Ice milk) which is a lot like ice cream only dense and richer with aromatic with spices. And we shared the saffron rice pudding which is unique in that the flavors are nothing like traditional rice pudding. So very gratifying and filling. Make sure you have room, truly bring an appetite because all the food is very filling. Other than the hot weather, the only disappointment was the service. It was slow and as more people arrived for dinner after 5 pm the service seemed a bit overwhelmed and tired. It got busy as we were waiting for the check. The food of course is what brings in locals and tourists alike. I recommend this place when you're not in a hurry to eat and like sitting outside. And don't be shy about trying new dishes you have not had before, the food is scrumptious! And yes you can take food home. India/Himalayan food is delicious for breakfast the next day. Nan bread instead of typical toast with an egg is yummy and it's a gratifying gastronomical experience. This review is not about the food or the service, both of which were perfectly fine. No complaints. We were a party is six and the food/drink bill came to $183.88. A 20% tip was added to the bill. The service was fine although I always prefer to determine the tip myself. So what is the issue? It's something you're never going to notice at the end of the meal and before you leave the restaurant. It's the sales tax rate which was applied automatically like the tip. I looked it up and the sales tax rate for Kenwood, CA is 8.5% I did the calculations and they actually charged 9.9% based on the amount shown on the bill. This rate is built into their computer system, so the question is, how long has this been going on? I'm not going back to the restaurant to complain about this, but I hope they read their reviews and take notice. You should too. It may not be purposeful, but who's to say it is not? Looking into this further it appears that the automatic 20% service charge is taxable. That sucks. Who should pay a tax on tip or a "service charge" or anything else if the sort? I ordered carry out with my family here, excited for a nice meal. Sadly when the food made it to our place we realized the curry did not come with rice nor naan. There was no warning on the menu. Most Indian restaurants you order from, the entree comes with rice. Our meal did not. When we called to complain so they could make it right, they said "our menu states it does not come with rice" and I did not see it anywhere on the menu. Just to make sure I didn't make a mistake, I double checked and it doesn't say it anywhere online. I expressed my disappointment and we ended the call. That could've been the end. The restaurant called me back to tell me the server who took the call now says she told us that it does not come with rice and offered us Naan bread. She absolutely did not. This is a clear case of the server worried about her messing up, and wanted to pretend to her management that she did the right thing when she did not. The restaurant put their foot down and believed their server and not the customer. For me to add rice or bread is a few dollars and no biggie. If I had known it does not come with the meal I would have added it. They also changed their story and said "our locals know this and we thought you were local". Ok so what is it, did you think we were local and neglect to tell us or did you tell us? Can't be both. They def didn't tell us. This was an absolute ball drop on the restaurants part and the biggest letdown is them calling me back to tell me I was wrong because their server claims she told us. This could've been an easy fix with them doing their part to either get us rice or give us a partial discount on that ONE meal they messed up on and they decided to call me a liar over what, two dollars of rice? Get out of here, I hope nobody supports a restaurant that craps on their customers. This is not normal practice for a restaurant to call back and argue over a side of rice that nowhere on the menu does it say is not included with the entree (per their claim). It's standard practice for any Indian restaurant to include rice and up charge for naan. I'm a 37yo Indian man (this is my fiancées account) that has eaten Indian all his life. I've never experienced the blatant disrespect from an Indian restaurant this restaurant gave me tonight, and I still can't believe they called back, refused to make it right, and said their server was right and I was wrong. OVER RICE. For anyone reading this, the food we did receive was mediocre so please save your money, and give your money and support to any other mom and pop Indian shop that could use the business and support. This is the best Indian and Nepalese food we have ever had ever! We have worked our way through the menu over the years, and the food is even better than ever. They have indoor outdoor dining, a platter of dishes to choose from both Curries and tandoori, and the best Momo you will ever eat. Their naan. is exceptional, as is their Kashmiri pilaf. Had dinner at Yeti Restaurant on Thursday evening. It was a delicious meal in a beautiful setting. Quality: Yeti Restaurant serves up some very tasty Nepalese and Indian cuisine. The majority of dishes we ordered fell in the latter category, although many dishes showed the Nepalese influence. We started with the Samosas, which were probably the weakest dish of the night. They were simply too large for only veggies, not getting the appropriate crispiness to each bite. The Papadum, which highlighted different sauces and the excellent Chicken Momo were my preferred appetizers. For entrees, the Chicken Biryani was my favorite bite. Sometimes the dish can be overwhelming, but they did a nice job in tampering down the spices a bit, while still getting wonderful flavor. The Lamb Shank Curry was great as well, though difficult to eat. And you can't go wrong with the many curry options, I preferred the Chicken Tikka Masala to the Saag Gosht, but both were solid. Quantity: There were four of us and we took a family-style approach. Our order was way more than we could finish and we ended up taking home almost two full entrees worth of food. Ambiance: Yeti Restaurant is located in the Glen Ellen area of Sonoma. The restaurant is in Jack London Village, a unique little strip of restaurants and stores, built around an old mill. It is hard to describe the area as it is so unique, but it is sort of like a treehouse deck, built over a small stream and into the vegetation. Yeti occupies a deck space towards the center of the village, which they have decorated with Tibetan prayer flags. The only issues are the flies and bees, but with good food outside they were bound to show up. Right now they only have outdoor seating, which limits them to about a dozen or so tables. Inside the space is a bit more formal, but very uniquely designed. Crowd: Right now they are only doing outdoor dining, so reservations are a must, even on weeknights. It is an older crowd, with a lot of couples and groups of friends. Service: Our server was extremely nice, and was very patience with several customers who felt the need to talk extensively about their own trips to Nepal.
