A romantic Thai bistro tucked away in the corner of a shopping plaza. There's a romantic vibe with mood lighting and clean settings and menus. We got the khao soi and shrimp pad thai. It's a relaxed environment so we enjoyed conversation while waiting for our food. The Thai spice level on the pad thai was perfect - it's on the spicier side but that's how I personally like it. Yesterday, while still stuck on a soft diet for another 12 hours (temporary crown after the prior, older one broke) and hungry for something that wasn't yogurt, I decided to try Bangkok 9 for a late lunch, thinking something with noodles would fit the bill. The dining room is clean, cozy, and comfortable, and they had some featured specials, but I went for the tofu Pad Thai on the regular menu. It was delicious, and there was enough for me to pack some of it up to go home with me for later. My server was very kind and attentive. I need to add this to the list of places to go when I'm out doing errands (which I was yesterday) and need a meal in the midst of it. read more

Hit up this spot spontaneously bc i was craving some noodle soup and didn't want to drive to get pho. it's in a big shopping center with plenty of parking, the server was super friendly. i ordered something that most don't think about when it comes to Thai food - duck noodle soup. Food was very good! Really enjoyed my pad Thai with prawn. The prawn were juicy. Also the Thai spice level was perfect. Hot enough but not super spicy. Great flavor overall. Only downside is there aren't a ton of workers so the wait time was a bit and there were a lot of people standing around waiting for there to go orders. The venue is beautiful and clean. Staff friendly and attentive, however, the food is average and it took very long to be ready even though the restaurant had only a couple of other tables besides hours. I loved the fresh avocado rolls that came with my spicy noodles special but the noodles did not feel very special just regular. I would've given 3.5 stars but it doesn't allow me to - this is strictly my personal opinion of someone who eats a lot of Thai food and is very picky. read more

Bangkok 9 is clearly a winner when it comes to that typical hidden Thai restaurant in a shopping center. I had waited years to visit Bangkok 9 and I feel completely guilty doing so quite honestly! Upon arrival during a cold winter day, we were greeted with smiles from a wonderful couple (Owners I assume). As for the restaurant, small, but very quaint and welcoming in terms of decorations (Although I rarely complain about adornments honestly). We were promptly seated and given our menus, which presented your typical Thai food options. Price point was very fair for a lunch meal, easily under $12 per person. Thai Tea and egg rolls to start it off, which were delivered quickly. Thai Tea hit the spot on all notes, but the egg rolls were just an okay experience, a tad bland to be honest. Mains were delivered later on, those being the Chicken Param and Yellow Pumpkin Curry. Portion wise, an easy 4 out of 5, but taste landed a 5 out of 5 for both dishes! The pad see ew was horrific, it was like a bunch of clumped noodles sitting in a pool of liquid. The noodles are clumped and we're not stir fried like must be done. I'm actually offended this place thought this was proper and with the prices they charge here i'm totally offended. The red curry was watery and was like a soup and did not have flavor. I'm shocked. The to go order I paid for was missing Crab Rangoon. I called and let them know. The server seemed irritated and short. She said they would leave a voucher for the crab Rangoon on their wall for me to pick up. I went in this evening and the server seemed confused and did not find any record of a voucher. She told me the owner is out of town for two weeks on vacation so there's nothing she can do. read more

The food here has always been good but they seriously need more waitstaff. The owner basically tries to run the show own his own but his service is lackluster. He is always forgetting the basics like refilling water and brining items out timely. The high school aged boy who does 'to go' orders is always having to help out the tables because the owner is so slow and can't be found so customers end up waving down the 'to go' person for help . Their bathroom sink is broken. I turned on the water to wash my hands and was sprayed with cold water into my eyeball. Also had a sign out front on the table advertising sticky rice with mango that sealed the deal because we both love that. Went back. Ordered a couple of entrees and an appetizer. The food was very good, however, the one with the little pepper next to it yellow curry wasn't the least bit spicy, so I guess you have to ask. Ordered dessert. No sticky rice no mango. This despite a TV screen continuously advertising sticky rice with mango now in season. Wait person seemed put out when we ask her why they have the ad running and then they don't have the food. While looking on Yelp for Asian restaurants in the area, I stumbled upon this gem over in Sonoma. Looked over the menu and saw a few favorites, sold. Within an hour we called to make a reservation and were on our way. Based on the pictures we thought Bangkok 9 was going to be feel more upscale so we got a little bit dressed up, wrong. B9 is super casual with a large take out business. Really it's a neighborhood Thai place where you can come in for a quick bite or linger over a bottle of wine. Speaking of wine, we generally bring our own wine and pay corkage. Corkage is really reasonable here, I think it was around $10. A pretty good deal if you ask me. The menu was largely your typical Thai dishes, satay, curries, etc. So we looked for standouts, the dishes that keep you coming back. We found a few dishes that we absolutely loved starting with the Yum Woo Sen. A salad of glass noodles mixed with chopped shrimp, herbs and peanuts in a lime dressing, so light and so incredibly refreshing. We also tried the green papaya salad, also perfectly fresh and well prepared. Our server brought over a tray of 3 chilies, chili oil, paste and a fish sauce with lime and chilis, all were so good. The stand out was the later with bright acidity and super spiciness which took both salads to the next level. Entrées included a large portions of deliciously moist and tender BBQ Chicken, Spicy Noodles also known as Drunken Noodles, and our new favorite Pineapple Fried Rice. Segments of pineapple, raisins and sliced chicken in curry flavored rice, will order this one every time. If the regular menu isn't enough, there is an off menu specials board that has dishes like Stuffed Chicken Wings, Fried Calamari and Spicy Duck Basil. We were sadly disappointed with the Stuffed Chicken Wings, I didn't like the interior texture, was way to squishy, sort of like an undercooked egg roll filling. If you're a fan of bamboo shoots the Spicy Duck Basil will hit the spot. For me, I can't stand bamboo shoots so this dish was dead to me, no fault of B9s. We ended our meal with their killer Fried Bananas. I love that they used a more puffy batter to coat the banana nuggets in. The contrast of textures was so satisfying, golden brown and crispy on the outside fluffy and creamy on the inside. Drizzled with honey, these really hit the spot. Ordered takeout from here for the first time. All in all, the food was fresh and the kitchen (from what I could see from the counter) looked clean. The pad see-ew was maybe the only item I found fault with - the noodles were all stuck together and super thick (2x the width of normal pad see-ew noodles). But the flavoring was all good, the spice level was spot on to what was requested. I saw some of the reviews commented on the scant portions which is a fair comment. For my family of 4, we usually are full after 4 dishes plus rice but after this meal, everyone was still left with a bit more room in their tummies! read more

We were evacuated from home because of the Kincade Fires. Our friends let us stay at their home while they weren't vacation. So, we were hankin ' for Thai food. We found this restaurant. Looking at the menu, it reminded me of our Thai restaurant in Windsor called Khum Koon's menu. The was exactly the same and it was just good. Worth going back when we are in Sonoma. read more

Their new lunch menu is $22.95 - 25.95 for a simple small portion lunch. used to be $7.50 !! outrageous!!! Bangkok 9 provides solid Thai food in Sonoma. Hidden away in a strip mall, Bangkok 9 has adapted to COVID with take-out and limited outdoor seated dining. Staff is friendly and accommodating even during the trying times of the pandemic. Somehow they smile with their eyes, so you know they are genuine, even behind their masks. The chicken satay was moist and tender with a peanut sauce that was both spicy and sweet. Pad see ew was a little oily, but delicious nonetheless. This Thai spot is a little underwhelming. Maybe I'm spoiled with our excellent Thai food in Los Angeles (where I'm from) but I have been here 3 times and never been super impressed. My favorite Thai dish is Pad See Ew, and theirs is strange (mixed veggies instead of just broccoli) and very bland. Kind of sour tasting? Just strange honestly. The Tom Kha soup is good. The panang curry is ok, it also had a weird flavor, maybe too much bell pepper or something. The ginger chicken was ok, but the sauce was so runny it was pure liquid. It tasted delicious but I ended up drinking it like a soup. When it's runny like that it doesn't stick to the meat and vegetables. Comparing this to Ginger chicken from my favorite Thai spots back home and just kind of disappointed. But better than no Thai food!! I will say that my mother in law got the shrimp salad and loved it, so it could just take time to find the right thing to order. read more
