Looking for some fruit tea/milk tea before heading to the movies so we did a quick spot in downtown. Plenty of places to choose from on this strip but remembered having a delicious matcha at this place so came to get one from here. Parked in the back and walked to the shop. Tiny entrance to a kiosk outside and one inside. The menu here is so overwhelming because they have so many options. I wanted to try something different but opted for the matcha. My family also got different drinks too. Kiosk is pretty straightforward. Zero human interaction. Since the inside is tiny I waited outside. Our family had several orders so I went in to ask for the ones that were ready. I came back to grab another drink and checked back on my drink that I saw on the table but no one came up to me after they handed me my first couple drinks even though I had asked for an update and could see the drink on the table. After several minutes and getting drinks for other customers I got their attention and got my drink. Matcha was fine. Same flavor as the first time I had it. No space inside to enjoy their drinks but plenty outside in the blocked off street. Service could have been more attentive. 3 people and it was super busy with customers coming and going. Zero interactions with anyone while ordering since kiosks are available. Hoping for a more efficient experience if I visit again. read more

This was my first visit to Yi Feng. I ordered an osmanthus oolong milk tea with sago for myself and strawberry milk with agar boba for my son. I don't finish a whole tea right away and generally start one either in my car or at home. I have to say that my milk tea was disappointing in every way. Though I ordered 50% sweetness as I do for all my milk teas, this was way too sweet. The sago was strangely soft, I've never experienced that before and don't know if that was a problem with the preparation or if it had been around for too long. The drink had very little tea flavor. They do have a sign at their pickup counter telling customers that if a drink is disappointing they will make it right but I was long gone so this wasn't an option for me today. I also had the other drink for my son and hoped that the verdict for his drink would be better. Good news, it was! I tasted it too and yes, they got it right. Also 50% sweetness and it was as we expected. My son graciously suggested that fruit drinks were their specialty and maybe this wasn't a good place to get tea drinks. The ordering at the kiosk was pretty easy and even though there was a steady stream of customers, my drinks were ready in about 10 minutes. The person giving the drinks to customers was pleasant with me for checking with her a few times even though I could have waited patiently for the text message i received when my drinks were ready. So there's good and bad. But a too sweet flavorless drink with mushy topping for the same price as my usual favorite milk tea elsewhere is a non-starter. Also tried one of the seasonal item: Kyoho Grape Breeze. It's also good with a slight hint of grape flavor. Would like the grape flavor to be stronger. Their drink is very good, however, this place is super small. There is only one line to enter and come out, and no place to stand around inside while waiting for your drink. Yi Fang is a pretty popular boba spot, so we felt that it would be a good choice to satisfy our craving this day. This is our first time visiting this location. It is a small space with no tables or seating inside. There is a self-order kiosk in front. Orders are picked up inside once ready. We ordered a Yakult Pineapple Green Tea and a Kyoho Grape Breeze. Drinks came out fairly quickly. We waited until we got to our car to try them. Unfortunately, the Yakult Pineapple Green Tea top was not sealed properly as it was leaking in the bag we were given to carry the drinks. It was light and refreshing, and the Yakult flavor was subtle. The braised pineapple in the drink was good but difficult to drink through the straw (had to open the top at the end and use a spoon). It was caramelized and kind of tasted like the filling of a pineapple cake. The Kyoho Grape Breeze was okay. Not sure if this is a new drink but it was not on the main menu (it was on a separate flyer). There were grape pieces at the bottom of the drink. Similar to the pineapple, they were hard to drink with the straw. They tasted good, but not sure if I would be able to tell that they are Kyoho grapes. The drink was light and refreshing also. Overall, giving Yi Fang a 3/5. I have had good experiences at other locations in the past and am disappointed by this visit. The Kyoho Grape Breeze was $10 which is pricey for tea. There was no price on the flyer so we did not see the price until checking out on the kiosk. The fruit used in the teas seem good quality though. I don't know if it's just me, but both times I've ordered here, I've chosen 30% sweetness on a drink with customizable sweetness (some drinks have fixed sweetness), plus tipped 15% on my order. Both times I've gotten a drink that's clearly 100% sweetness. Unfortunately, both times I've taken my drink to go, otherwise I could have tried bringing it nicely to the shop's attention. Based on other reviews it seems like my experience is unusual, but I know what 30% v. 100% sweetness taste like. Yes, I've successfully ordered reduced sweetness drinks at other places, most recently at Ume, Tea Era, and Mr. Sun in/near downtown MV, and Ten Ren in Cupertino Village. My expectation isn't that any drink will be made to my ideal level of sweetness, but only that it's roughly in the range I requested. Any way you look at it, a 30% and 100% sweetness drink taste VERY different. Kind of expensive, but really tasty with lots and lots of variety and customization options. First time I was here I had the mango pomelo sago drink, and second time the taro latte. I love taro, but the first drink was actually more special to me. The first time the wait was really really long - like 40 minutes. I get that popularity will lead to long wait times, but it would really be nice if their system gave you an estimated wait time before you ordered so you have a choice whether to move forward or not. The second time was mid-afternoon so basically really quick. I like that you can pick your sweetness levels for most drinks, as well as have a wide variety of add ins. The kiosk ordering is convenient too, esp since the workers are typically so busy cranking out the drinks. I definitely wouldn't want to work here - too high stress. Yi Fang is known for their fruit teas, so as much as I wanted to order my usual milk tea, I settled for an alternative fruity drink and was very happy with my decision. I tried their Mango Tea with Mango Sago (1/2 sugar) and it was fabulous. Real mangu puree was used and I appreciate it much more than boba shops relying simply on flavored syrup. Unfortunately, there was no option to add boba on the kiosk even after making a note, but the sago more than made up for that texture craving. My friend ordered a Cantaloupe Green Tea where they used fresh cantaloupe puree. It tasted as you'd expect and something she wouldn't get again necessarily. It was perfectly made, the passionfruit tasted fresh, I didn't get much of a green tea flavor in it because the passionfruit flavor was so strong. The Sago mini pearls were perfectly bouncy. Service was quick and easy. You order on the kiosk and they'll call out your order and text you once it's ready. This has always been a reliable boba milktea place. My go to drink here is the Brown Sugar Boba Black or Oolong MilkTea. They have a small shop along Castro Downtown Mountain View close to the train station. What's unique about their boba is it is slightly smaller than the other bobas. It's always soft and fun to it. The tea taste is on the moderate level. If you don't want strong tea taste, then this is the milktea place for you. They have refreshing fruit drinks too. You can order ahead via snack pass. Service is pretty okay on a regular time, ordering ahead really helps. read more

The seats were outside. I think this was mostly due to the regulations of the city at the time. The service was quite fast despite them being busy.
