Parking can be tricking during prime times as there are so many busy shops in this plaza. My go to's are the Egg Rice Noodle and the Seafood Congee. I like the texture/thickness of their congee. The soy sauce that they pair with the rice noodle is really good too. It just tastes so much better than other places, for some reason. Kept passing this restaurant and finally decided to give it a try for a late lunch. On entering, we were promptly attended to and seated. This is a small restaurant but comfortable. We were promptly served tea in a paper cup and given a paper bowl with a plastic spoon for eating. This was unusual. There are also disposable chopsticks on the table. We had the following: Shrimp congee: Very good. You could taste the shrimp flavour, even the colour had the tone of cooked shrimps. We received 6 large shrimp with the congee. Wow. I come here quite often. Lots of cheung fun and congee variety! My favourite are the pork liver, marinated beef and the shrimp! They also add new flavours to their menu. I like their cheung because the skin is thin (not too thick), loaded with fillings, so it has a great ratio of fun:fillings. I would say their congee is decent, nothing too special. The portion is large and good to be shared between 2 people. We love eating the congee with a sweet crueller! The price is good and it is quite busy in the afternoons. One of our favorite cities to enjoy Chinese Hong Kong style cuisine is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Many Chinese immigrants from Southeast Asia moved to Toronto after the Vietnam War & 200,000 more immigrants from Hong Kong arrived during the 1980's & 1990's due to the takeover of Hong Kong by China in 1997. As they settled in Toronto & the Greater Toronto Area, these immigrants established huge Chinese shopping centers due to an abundance of land. They formed about six major Chinatowns, including North York, Scarborough, Markham, Richmond Hill, & originally downtown. Many new Chinese restaurants were established that catered to the Hong Kong immigrants. One chain of restaurants, Yin Ji Chang Fen Rice Noodle Rolls, which was founded in 1958 in nearby Hong Kong in Guangzhou, which was already popular in the early 1950's and 1960's. With more than 30 locations worldwide, it established its first location in Markham, Toronto in 2017 (there are now five locations in Ontario and one in Montreal), with restaurants also in CA and NY. "Chang fen" translates to "rice noodle roll" in Mandarin, which is also called "cheong fun" in Cantonese. As such, Yin Ji Chang specializes in the traditional rice noodle rolls filled with various ingredients, e.g., shrimp, fish, scallops, beef, pork, pork liver or kidney, chicken, chives, cilantro, corn, egg, mushroom, veggies, etc. They also specialize in congee, or rice porridge that include many of the same ingredients as the rice rolls and more including ginger, peanuts. Generous amounts of delicious shrimps and chives in the glistening and fluffy noodle roll as described above. * Congee with sliced pork. Served steaming and piping hot with an adequate amount of pork slices, the congee is creamy, thick, and flavorful. Addictive fish skins are like potato chips and would go well with the congee. * Iced ribana (black currant) with lemon drink. Very refreshing and not overly sweet. Service was attentive as we were there during off peak time. Staff speaks limited English. Small restaurant, about 15 tables. They have a great picture menu that you can write the order # on a piece of paper and give it to the server. Within five to ten minutes, your order is there. Hot tea is complimentary. House-made hot chili oil, hoi sin sauce, and sesame seeds are available as condiments. This unassuming restaurant is part of a large shopping plaza next to the gigantic T and T Supermarket at the corner of Warden and Steeles, with the restaurant facing the Warden St. side. Lots of available parking, but they fill up fast during busy periods. The restaurant is clean, bright, and with awards and photos posted on the walls. Hours of operation are daily from 8a to 1a (next day). Last week, I was browsing eateries on my Ritual app, as one does at midnight, and found Yin Ji Chang Fen as a new addition. I have been craving all things dim sum as of late. I wanted some rice noodle rolls and placed an order last Wednesday while I was out running errands. This place specializes in congee and rice noodle rolls. We've been experiencing a heatwave in the GTA that the last thing I wanted to do was down a hot bowl of congee. Congee is more a comfort food to me when it's cooler outside. I wanted rice rolls. My rationale was that I'd be less sweaty eating them. I ordered the following items: - Sticky rice wraps - Sweet cruller - Sweet corn rice noodle roll - Beef brisket stew with rice noodle role - Barbequed pork with chives rice noodle role I placed my order in Whitchurch-Stouffville. My order was ready in fifteen minutes. Cool! This eatery is in a plaza across from CF Markville Mall. It's a few stores down from Fairstone Financial, which I haven't set foot in for nearly two years. There are exclusive parking spots in front of this store for Yin Ji Chang Fen customers. I backed into a spot and walked in. There is a sign that states to wear a mask. It's mandatory in Markham as of this Friday, so this place was ahead of the game. I walked in and a nice man said hi. I indicated that I was picking up a Ritual order and said my name. It was ready for me. He turned the huge bag around with my order printed out. Yep, that was mine. I thanked him, took some pictures of the interior, and wished him a great day. I drove home. I had a virtual Yelp event to do, so I kept my food warm as I sweated away doing a dance workout. So much for not sweating... haha! Anyway, the workout was perfect. I was hungry and ready to dig in. I started with the beef brisket stew. It smelled so good. It was carefully packed in a container and the gravy never leaked out. I poured it all over the whisper-thin, but wide, rice noodle. I then had a bite. I was in heaven! I have been craving beef brisket for a while. It was flavourful and the sauce was divine. The beef brisket was tender. It was the perfect combination. I love corn. I mean, I LOVE corn. I had to get the sweet corn rice noodle roll. The corn kernels were sweet and crispy. I have never had corn in a rice noodle roll. So perfect. So simple. So good! I actually poured the beef brisket gravy over it. I highly recommend trying this move if you do order these two flavours. I had the sweet cruller. It was still warm and crispy when I got to it. Like a fresh bagel that has just come out of the oven, I can eat a sweet cruller out of the fryer without anything on it or dipped in anything. It was delicious! It was chewy, crispy, and yummy. It has been eons since I last had one. I had one of the sticky rice wraps. Yes, workouts make me hungry. It was packed with pork filling. I miss dim sum so much. Having this sticky rice wrap made those feelings disappear. It was delightful. I had the barbequed pork and chive rice roll for breakfast the following day. The container that each rice roll comes in is perfect to shove into the microwave and heat up. The rice noodle roll was still yummy the next day. The barbequed pork is cut thin, but you get a lot. The same goes with the chives. It was so different. I liked it a lot. I am close to giving this place a perfect score. What is holding me back is the price. My beef brisket rice noodle roll was nearly $7. It's not cheap dining here, but it is worth it for the yumminess that ensues. I will need to come back and try more items on the menu. First time trying this, we got the Chinese doughnut, the chicken congee, and the brisket noodle roll, first off this place was packed at 9 am which is like wow, fast efficient service, the congee was good but probably won't order again and the doughnut was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the brisket was so tender and packed with flavour the noodles had a very soft texture it melts in your mouth, and the sauce with the noodles was amazing I think they cook it really simple really get the natural flavour of the beef, this is one of the best noodle rolls I've tried so far the dim sum place I usually go to is really good but this comes really close I can't believe I've never heard of this before phenomenal food read more

Believe it or not.. but my Husband and I ate here 3 days in the row! We were only visiting Canada for 3 days and we had this everyday. It's that good and it's quick too! Morning time is very busy and afternoon it'll slow down. (It was also the weekend when we visit) The second day I came with my family and we had a large group. Yin Ji Chang Fen is pretty advance for an asian chain as they have the online ordering system. Lots of options to choose from. The congee is a good portion size and also is not stingy in ingredients. My go to is always the perserved egg and pork congee. Always filled with lots of perserved eggs and has a nice touch of ginger and green onion. In terms of Chang Fen option, theres alot of options to choose from, from just plain white chang fen, to meaty ones like beef, pork or even fish chang fen! Experience through delivery. Ordered Yin Ji Chang Fen via UberEats and even after 20minutes of travel, it was still fresh and kept its quality. Service was fast, and portions were generous. Prices are reasonable as well. Plain fresh rice noodle roll 4/5 - the basic rice noodle rolls is definitely a representation of whether a place is good. They did it well as the rolls were smooth and not overly oily. The thickness of their rolls were perfect as it kept its shape when you picked it up, but not too thick where it feels rubbery. I would say that given it was cooled down (and just warm when we had it due to delivery), it did give a little bit of a chew, but I anticipated that with that long a travel time. Still it was enjoyable, and with the sesame (which wasnt overly salted or sweet), hoisin and sriracha sauce, it completed the dish. Fresh shrimp rice noodle rolls 5/5 - surprisingly, and likely because the filling made it more moist, this roll was very smooth in texture and had the right consistency. The shrimp in the rolls were plump and juicy, not rubbery and had a nice texture to them. The addition of chives completed the dish. Drizzle a little bit of their sweet soy on top and it was delicious! Preserved egg and pork congee 5/5 - I find the consistency of the congee to be really important, and depending on the nature of it can really change the experience. When I think of places that specialize in fast food congee, I expect it to be more thick and pasty, which is exactly how it was delivered. Its very nostalgic of Hong Kong, with the congee base to be a little sweet in flavour. The was a generous amount of toppings inside, and their preserved eggs were 'fresh' and you can taste that unique flavour they offer. The meat texture is that where its a bit springy, signifying that they likely marinated it in salt and acid to 'loosen' up the meat and soften it up. The slight saltiness from both paired well with the congee base. Overall well rounded and a good hearty breakfast! Sweet Fried Dough 4/5 - when it first arrived, this denser dough compared to its youtao friend was nicely sweetened and you can tell it was fried with a fresh batch of oil. A dense thick interior that pairs nicely when dipped in the congee. Good crisp on the outside, but definitely gets more dense and less enjoyable as it gets colder (which is common with this pastry). Since they're pretty busy, you might find yourself reminding them for cutlery, napkins or tea. Food arrive hot and quickly. Portions are in expected size and congees come with generous toppings/ingredients. But I find that their congee is a bit to the watery side. I think I prefer Wong Sam Kee's congee a lot more. Their chang fen (rice noodle rolls) are very silky but they could get really messy when eaten because the rolls are one huge piece instead of thinly rolled form like you'd see at dim sum places. We ordered a bowl of pork liver congee, a bowl of shredded pork with preserved egg congee, sweet cruller, marinated beef & shrimps noodle rolls and marinated chicken sliced noodle rolls. Total came to just less than $30. Is that a good deal? not really, but it's definitely a hearty meal that's perfect for wintertime. Just lovely! Review on the Chang Fen only The art of preparing and rolling a Chang fen is not an easy task. Traditionally in HK dim sum, it's poured on a sheet pan and hand rolled hence the thick texture. This restaurant has a special technique using a cloth which makes the rice wrapper so delicate and thin! I tried the shrimp and chives as well as the Veggie Roll. Both came out quickly and was perfectly steamed. The Veggie Roll had sliced mushroom, shredded carrots and an iceburg like lettuce. Shrimp was plump loonie sized and actually plentiful for the dish, but you can add more for a surcharge. Servers are very attentive and so polite. It's a nice change as eateries this busy and squished usually have mediocre manners. The tables are just inches from the next diners, so it's got a cafeteria vibe going. The plaza itself is also limited with parking as well. Take out orders are much quicker than waiting for a table. Congress are nice, hot and fluffy personal sized, China style instead of Hong Kong style. Their rice rolls are thin and flavourful, must try. They also have other snacks and their congees are customizable, just let them know. If you don't like green onions and parsley you should tell them ahead of time. Small but clean lil' place across from Markville Mall. Courteous and fast service. Great for a quickie stop-off for a bite to eat. The food is freshly made and tastes lovely! Piping hot with that wonderful texture that slides perfectly into your mouth. It's not pricey and well worth the visit. So glad this place opened up across from Markville Mall! I came here for a quick lunch and what blew me the most was their service! They were super nice and attentive, which is rare in a fast food restaurant. This place is known for their cheung fen and I can see why. My favourite was the egg roll. I also got their BBQ pork cheung fen, preserved egg & pork congee, dough rice roll and fish dumpling. The least favourite was the fish dumpling soup. Although the soup was good, I was not a fan of the dumpling wrap. Overall this place is great to come for a quick, cheap, and delicious eat for lunch or snack! read more

It's pretty much a order through your phone and they bring you the phone.. One of the advantage of Yin Ji Chang Fen is they open so late as it is quite hard to find many places that open late anymore due to Covid... Their Rice noodles are good so as their congee.. Food comes out fast and service is acceptable.. Not as crazy busy as their first location on Warden but then, i tend to go later in the evening.. After a day of shopping, it is definitely a place to stop by. read more

We find this congee place by chance when we are physically looking around to cure our stomach. This place locates at the furthest corner, and not eye catching. The congee itself is pretty "creamy". However there are only a few chicken cubes (soft and tasty though) and not worthy. The rice noodle rolls are smooth like silk and fresh. It is a good place for light meal. You may feel disappointed if you have a big appetite. read more

After here eating several times since my initial visit, I'm ready to give an updated review. Yin Ji Chang Fen is still a fam favourite for their chang fen. Their rolls are super soft and silky - pretty distinctive from the ones you get at dim sum. However, some flaws are: 1. Their congee is watered down. I've eaten here with several people and we all agree that the congee doesn't have the oomph of the comfort food we like. 2. When taking out - DOUBLE CHECK! Our family ordered here every other weekend or so during quarantine and they have forgotten items. But the pros are pretty good: 1. Obvi their chang fen 2. Their milk tea is sooo delicious. 3. This one lady who works there that ALWAYS provides great customer service (the others are a hit or miss). 4. Their fried fish skin is a nice snack to crunch on Prices are okay. read more

This new location at McCowan/7 offers the same experience as their other chaotic (parking/lineups) Warden/Steele's location in Markham. Their long hours 8-12 makes this a great late night spot instead of my usual boring places. I ordered my usual rice roll, congee and dough fritter. Tastes good and decent service. Good place for a lighter meal or snack. If you need to go west, you have to use to exit where there is a light since the other ones can only allow you to go east-there is a big island in the middle of the road BUT some guy did not see it and plowed right into it-i will reserve my comments/judgements :) read more
