Yoga Floats glow class

This was an amazing experience! This was not my first yoga class, but it was my first time on a stand-up paddle board. My instructor was patient and helpful, and she made sure it was a great time! I highly recommend this class and company.

These sunset views were incredible and then the full moon rose!

The BEST way to end my solo trip to Oahu! I traveled to Oahu solo, and sought out a bunch of wellness experiences. My trip came up really last minute, and a lot of the Yoga Floats sessions that fit into my schedule were already booked, but the owner Kelsey was so nice and went out of her way to help me arrange a private Light Up The Night experience. Everything is so professional and clear with Yoga Floats, from the communication and confirmation email with clear directions on how to get to the location no matter how you're arriving, to the awesome drone video showing you EXACTLY where to park and the meeting point (I was so impressed by this), to the class and instruction itself. As soon as I was out on the water, I was in heaven. Class began at 6:30 just as the sun was setting (in February) and it was the absolute perfect time because I got to enjoy the sunset and do the glow experience. The water at this beach is so calm and was perfect for SUP yoga. My teacher made it accessible and fun, her and I had a blast. She was so kind and guided me beautifully (as a long-time yoga teacher, I'm pretty critical of a good teacher!), also giving me some time to try things on my own. She took some great pictures for me and I'll treasure them forever. Being on the water in this way was the most magical experience - it took both the yoga and the sunset to an entirely new level. The sunset and full moon were stunning. I loved it so much! I can't wait to be back in Oahu and book take more classes with Yoga Floats!

Easy booking experience online through the website. Class max at about 10 so you get some individual attention. Beautiful setting that is easy to get to with ample parking. No need to be an expert yogi to participate and the class is conducted in peaceful, shallow water so no need to be an expert waterman or paddler to do this class. The morning yoga was a great way to start off the day, and liked it so much I did this twice. Discount for returnees. Highly recommend! low-key and no judgment.

Hawaii's waves and swells are powerful, but there are still places where the waters are calm and slow. Ala Moana Bay, in that light, is the perfect setting for SUP Yoga, offered by this floating yoga studio. I signed up for a morning 75-minute SUP Yoga class offered at 9am. The meeting point was very explicit, instructions offered in an email beforehand. It was easy to find the van in the parking lot on the Magic Island side. I signed a waiver and class began with a short instructional on the proper transport of the SUP board as there were many first timers in the class. On that note, the class is geared towards first timers, but even someone who is experienced will have a swell time as well. After lugging the boards and anchors to the beach, we put them down once in deep enough and then walked/ floated the boards around the rocks to the designated spot. *No paddling involved in this class; you are simply doing yoga on the paddleboard itself.* And no need to freight about drowning or hurting yourself as class takes place in waist deep water where there is a soft bed of sand free of any large rocks or reef. I enjoyed a playful yet invigorating yoga flow which incorporated some balancing and core activation. The instructor allotted us a decent amount of time towards the end for that blissful floating savasana, allowing us to take in the pitter patter of the water against our boards along with the distant chatter of birds passing by overhead. She also took a ton of pictures which were uploaded onto a Facebook album that very day. It was a yoga class, but also an experience, a transformative one to find solace and connection with the long forgotten homeland.

Wow super fun! I always wanted to try SUP Yoga but just never got my lazy butt to sign up and do it. A new friend I met at a snorkeling trip invited me to join her and I of course said yes because I always wanted to try it! It's actually harder than it seemed. I have been doing yoga and I also tried SUP before, but never both together, so I thought if I could manage both, I could manage it! I did okay, but when it came to balancing poses, it was definitely a challenge! A lot more focus was necessary for all the poses because the board could get wobbly and the water was moving around you. At least falling into the water in the hot summer felt great ;-) haha Our instructor was doing her best to make this a fun and light-hearted experience for us too. It's really all about enjoy the beach and the water on a nice sunny day in Hawaii. She also was very eager to take photos for everyone. She posted them on the company's Facebook page for the group shortly after we finished the session. They seem to be used to having visitors and tourists joining the class. However, they were also very nice to offer kama'aina discounts for the locals so make sure you call and ask if you're one. Aloha!

Whenever I go on vacation, I make sure to try local yoga studios - and Yoga Floats is one of my favorite experiences in Hawaii and out of everywhere else I have gone. I signed up for the combo paddle boarding and SUP yoga class and it was absolutely fantastic, perfect for first timers and for experienced SUP participants. Signup on the website was easy, and directions for the class very clear. Kelsey was an amazing instructor from start to finish - friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable. The paddle boarding class was a great way to get accustomed to being on the board - we even got to see some turtles! There was a 30 minute break between classes, and Kelsey helped me find a place to get some desperately needed coffee (the 6 hour time change was a lot for me), or she gave us the option to paddle more, if we wanted. The yoga was AMAZING. I am a yoga instructor on the mainland, so I have some yoga experience. Kelsey's cueing was great, giving options for the several people in class who had never done it before, while also giving options for more experienced yogis to really have fun - not an easy feat for an instructor! We had a class ranging from maybe 12 years old to someone who was in her 60s (I'm 50). Each participant could make the class suit their own needs, and make it as easy or challenging as they needed it to be. The ocean is a fantastic neutralizer for everyone, and the location was perfection. I highly recommend Yoga Floats for anyone looking for yoga on Oahu - I really wish I could use the 20% off coupon for returning students! I'm saving it, just in case. Thank you for an amazing experience Kelsey!

Need to book appointment ahead of time. They meet at Ala Moana Beach nearby lifeguard station 1E where the water is super calm because of the reef barrier, but you can still feel the slight movements of the tide. There is a free parking lot in front of the white sandy beach that has restrooms, rinse stations, and shady trees. We position our stand up paddle boards on top of ~3 feet of water, the teacher walks around in the water, all the while calling out yoga pose instructions and taking pictures.  It is already hard to balance yoga on land, so doing in on water it is extra challenging but sure looks pretty and elegant.  I would recommend to pay extra to take the night class because being in full sun can be hot and draining on the body.

Christine B.

Yoga SUP at night with fun LED lights! Definitely recommend! The weather and the ambience was perfect and it was really relaxing to hear the water hitting the boards as you move through different yoga poses. Julie was a really fun teacher and takes great photos too! She helped explain every pose and even gave us modified poses which was great as this was my first time doing yoga on a SUP! I've done both activities separately but never together so this was a great challenge for practicing your balance! Round up all your besties and try this out! It's so fun! You will enjoy it! Next time I will sign up for her Friday class so I can see the fireworks! Plan to arrive 15 min early so you can sign the waiver and prepare to carry your board to the water. Look for the Yoga Floats van in the magic island parking lot. You can't miss it! She usually has the boards all laid out near the van. Also if you have anything you don't want to lose, they will lock it up for you in the van.

A great highlight for my trip. Doing yoga at night. The communication about the meeting location was not really clear I almost missed the class due to this. The whole experience was fun and the instructor was really patient with me considering my yoga skills are close to none!

We had such an amazing and relaxing experience with Karin!! We booked this a couple weeks in advance as a group event and they were so kind to give us a link for sign up for our group for a few days. Typically the class is 10 people with one instructor - Karin was amazing at explaining the basics of the paddle board and was helpful in offering modifications and support throughout our session on the water. I highly recommend if you have a group of friends, are visiting, or just want to try it out. It's not just for the ladies, guys and kiddos can join in on the fun too. It's located behind Ala Moana Mall clans parking is free. We brought some snacks and mimosas for after and you can easily make a day of it and stay at the beach or walk around the shops nearby. Make sure to bring sunscreen, swimsuit, towels, and a hat - it can get warm but the water is refreshing. Our instructor had a water proof camera and took lots of pictures so we could concentrate on the experience.

Instead of getting "easier" with time, your form will slowly improve (which I think also helps to improve your posture!). If it's starting to feel easy, you're not properly engaging your muscles :) The teachers and the owner are all so friendly and know how to kick your ass in the best way. I also love how CLEAN it feels in the studio. Pretty much all other fitness studios I've tried out feel noticeably grosser compared to here. (I can understand that it's also probably due to the nature of the workout for other studios though.) Although only a minor reason why you should continue your yoga practice here, the fact that the first three classes are free is kickass cool. The duo teach hatha yoga five days a week in a breezy, open-air classroom at the Waikiki Community Center. Parking is free at the center (enter from the Liliuokalani side of the block, not the Paoakalani side of the block). The entire second-floor classroom floor is covered with a thick spongy surface that you can put your yoga mat or or borrow one of the ones Murti or Larina provide. There is very little chance of slipping or hurting yourself. Maha Fusion also provides straps and blocks, which they use in every class to support good form. The class is gentle, restorative, and yet designed with pose progression such that even students who have been practicing for decades will find their edge of challenge. Murti's yoga heritage goes back to Rodney Yee, whom I believe is a master of restorative, restful poses, but Murti also folds in traditions of ashtanga, a more acrobatic and spectacular yoga practice. We also use methods employed by those who practice kundalini yoga, micro yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar yoga and vinyasa yoga. Murti is an avid read in yoga theory and makes his students well aware of the vast survey of yoga teaching through commentaries and the sutras. Go Rumi! Larina is a dancing yogini! Larina teaches classes in conjunction with Murti, and usually heads up the Saturday class. Her hatha-based practice folds in elements of ecstatic dance. Students in her class will find themselves moving about the classroom in addition to engaging in a challenging vinyasa flow. Larina has a very healing and gentle spirit about her and the sharpest eye when it comes to adjusting students' form. With the slightest touch or brush of her fingertips she will have you executing poses with the accuracy. What I love the most about this practice is the flexibility is brings to my own practice. I am an athlete and strong and experienced in practice, yet there are days when my body, like anyone's is not having it, has had it, and does not want me to be there. Those are the days that I am thankful I practice with these two. I am never made aware that I suck that day and never am I guilted into going beyond what I should be doing that day. Larina and Murti break down each pose is broken down into krama or various expressions of a pose, from the slightest expression of a pose to its grand finale, and each student is invited to find a variation of the pose that suits them that day. There are some days when I am a full wheel and some days I am a man on his back with just his hips raised off the floor a little. The students in the classes range from 30-something to 70-somethings, from surfers and athletes to grandmas and grampas. The rapport between students is remarkable, and is probably due to the fact that in every practice the students engage in partner yoga whereby they assist one another in obtaining the proper form or in engaging in more challenging poses with the support of another person. It is common to for students at the center to greet one another with hugs and kisses on the cheek. At least several times a year there are vegetarian potlucks after classes on Sunday where students catch up, and every month there is a meditation group held at the beach. In sum, Murti and Larina have created a yoga community. I recommend practice at Maha Fusion very much for the novice practitioner and those who have been practicing for a long time.
