Over the last four years, my illness had hijacked my body, and my once flexible frame had turned rigid with disuse. Lyme caused muscle stiffness, pain, and gripping, and had made it so that muscles easily strained. So, I backed off of most physical activity for a long time. I wasn't ready to return to the full class format, worrying that in a class, I wouldn't get the special care I needed in my unique situation. Through Covid I was also worried about Long Covid either triggering a Lyme flare, or adding to my issues, so overall a class was a no-go for me. I finally found exactly what I needed in Jenna's private sessions. She helped me gently move and stretch at first, just to get my body from concrete to hard rubber! Then, using her particular understanding of chronic illness, she added in deeper stretching and strength-building when she felt I was ready, helping my body loosen up and even just get used to the movements again. Over the last year, I have grown to feel so much more capable of activity, and she has given me a lifelong guide to stretching that is made just for me! This is something I will treasure forever... I was so sad when I found out she left the studio and assumed she moved out of LA. I was casually browsing ClassPass last night for Sunday morning yoga when I stumbled on "Namaste Yoga by Kartini." I immediately googled the studio to make sure my eyes were not deceiving me. Oh boy, my happiness level went from 0 to 100. And the best part is, her studio is only THREE blocks away from me!!! I went in for my first class today and I walked out smiling from ear to ear. What I like most about Kartini's class is that she has a good balance between demonstrating up front (because I do get lost here and there), and walking around to make adjustments. Her sequences are also well-balanced with flows, stretches, and restoration. I always walk out feeling happier than I did walking in to class. I never understood why there wasn't a yoga studio on Sawtelle, but I'm so happy Kartini answered my prayers. I can't wait to check out the other classes. What did I do to deserve such good karma? The additional bonus, to accompany Yoga Alliance certification upon completion of the program, is that I am learning from an amazing teacher who has extended knowledge, great passion, obvious appreciation and admiral respect for the craft and, with these things most pleasingly becoming contagious to me, as student, I feel truly excited and optimistic about the path I am now taking. She's positive, kind, and inspirational! When I started Yoga I was a beginner, but this year I've seen some major improvements in strength and flexibility. I used to have back and shoulder pain due to bad posture, but now my posture is corrected and I feel healthier. In my opinion, bad posture also changes the shape of the body, so it should be corrected as soon as possible. This place has really poor business practices and is not flexible at all…read more I tried to schedule to come in for a session and the lady wanted me to Venmo her the ENTIRE amount of the package before we even met. I offered to put a down payment for now, and would pay the difference after the first session. She downright refused. I don't understand how she can expected payment BEFORE services rendered. I understand if they need a down payment to hold the appointment, but they want the full amount beforehand without even having 1 session. It's not like I don't have money. I was going to buy a 10 or 20 session package if I liked the first session.... I work in sales and I'm appalled at her lack of flexibility. I will be looking elsewhere.
