Gave them another shot today with some chicken katsu. Meh. The chicken was tasteless, the brown rice was undercooked and the steamed veggies tasted way over salted. I probably won't be back here unfortunately. The prices are good, but still. For $10, my tastebuds should be a little more satisfied then they were. What was weird was last time the service was the reason for my 3 star review. This time it's the food. Can they ever hit both? Is third time really a charm? Just a simple small dining room with mostly takeout customers but about 7 small tables. Not terribly dirty, but not clean. I think the language barrier is strong here, so I give a little for that but the service was suuuuper slow, and discombobulated. They asked what kind of boba tea 3 times and forgot a portion of our order. After I asked for the gyoza and they said it's coming, they didn't inform me that it wasn't even on the order. They didn't charge me for it initially so that's fine. My son got the rice bowl and liked it - he's 13. It was okay but this feels like fast food to me. High in sodium, low is fresh ingredients (the zucchini was cooked perfectly though!) I got the chicken peanut noodles and they were not great. Noodles were gelatinous and flavor was okay but not much protein and pretty much zero veggies. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous so I'll likely be getting my son a rice bowl here again but it's to sodium laden/non authentic for my adult pallet. read more

(Meridian location) Can't believe it took me a year to find this place. It's authentic Japanese food that's reasonably priced. Tried Chicken Katsu and Short Ribs with white rice and veggies. LOVED the short ribs-marinated just right and the meat tender. I know I will be frequenting this place regularly to try various dishes. They also have a location on Vista Ave in Boise, but reviews I read preferred the Meridian one-has indoor and outdoor seating areas). Inside out: the place is easy to get to, it's in a newer strip mall, not a bad location. The inside and outside are clean with ample seating. The service: is fantastic and I've never had a reason to complain. The food: the bowls are delicious and I've never heard anyone complain, the bubble tea is hit or miss with flavors. I think the price can be a bit much for what you get, it's not horribly unfair but just a tiny bit steep. All around it's a great stop and nom place! read more

Frustrating experience tonight unfortunately. I have gone here a few times. The food is average but it's kept me coming back. Everything closes so early in Boise and I forget. Went to get food 5 min before close and was greeted with "are you gonna make an order?!" as I walk through the door. Then people proceeded to argue about if they were gonna take my order or not in front of me. I get it I do, cause I've done a lot of customer service jobs but it just kinda sucks. read more

Impressed with Teri chicken! I bought kids meal, was imppressed, was delish, almost as good as my Pops homemade Teri beef sauce, man I miss it! but wish I could afford an actual adult meal. Too pricey for me.... I went back and tried a Boba, Taro! Yet again, impressed...just pricey...boohoo. I'd definitely go at least once a week and get both an adult meal a day and a boba!!! The food was great but was very disappointed with my experience at the Yokozuna teriyaki as they use non-recyclable containers, which is environmentally irresponsible. It's disheartening to see a disregard for sustainability, especially in today's climate-conscious society. Some of the best teriyaki and katsu around... that should be enough for a great review. However, there is definitely more. Their boba is not only the best that I have found in Boise... they have an extensive (like crazy packed) list of flavors. My go to is pineapple, but have tried the green tea, lavendar, bahama mama and quite a few others too. All are great. Recently, they added yogurt boba too. They are basically flavor bursts popping bobas. They'll let you yrt them if you haven't had them, so be sure to ask. read more

I've eaten here for years, the food is decent, but tonight's experience was absolutely inexcusable. We walk in at 6:30, and the girl behind the counter bluntly reminds us that they close in 30 minutes when we say the order is to stay. We take our seat and we watch as a wave of people come in to place last minute orders. We're finishing our meal at the table by the front window, the food was good as it typically is, but we see a BPD patrol car park out in front, and 2 patrolmen come in at 6:53. Both were refused service because of the imminent closure. If it had been an off handed comment to me, I could have just chalked it up to some college age kid behind a counter that didn't know any better. Turning down two officers within your operating hours is a reason to not go back to an establishment until the responsible party is held responsible. read more

I stopped by the Boise Vista st location on Sunday about 4 pm. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl. I also tried to order a spring roll but they were all out. The price is a little expensive at $9. There is a decent amount of rice. The vegetables though are more on the raw side. There is also a decent amount of chicken however, for me, a bit to salty. For the $28 for two teriyaki and 6 pot stickers I should have went to McDonald's and been full for that amount of money. Maybe I will eat in and see if I get more for the $$. read more

Yokozuna provides Boise's best teriyaki fix! I've been frequenting the Vista location for years and have enjoyed many of their offerings. My favorite is the chicken yakisoba. The sauce is thick and tangy and it always is delivered to my table while still steaming hot. Ask for them to leave off the pickled ginger if you're sensitive to that vinegary taste. Other favs are the sukiyaki which pairs their sweet onion bowls piled high with your choice of meat and onions with a fried egg on top. Or the lunch time bento box which changes frequently. The latest offering was chicken katsu, spring roll and a spicy slaw. The katsu was deep-fried perfection. Delish! Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait when they're slammed at lunch. The dining-in seating is limited and if it's cold outside, you'll get a chilly reminder every time the door is opened. Overall, great, consistent lunch spot. Try one of their boba teas if you feel like chewing on some tapioca pearls! read more

Let me say this right off the bat so there's no misunderstanding: the food was very good. The service was friendly and helpful, and the bubble tea was nice and refreshing--though the pearls seemed a bit tougher than I've ever had before, it still hits the spot for that bubble tea craving. It has the potential for being an absolutely wonderful spot for teriyaki and delightful teas. The reason for the low rating? The place was, frankly, filthy. Like... layers and layers of grime in all the corners and over the ground, some of the chairs, and the tables had some sticky parts. Don't let your eyes wander if you dine-in or you risk losing your appetite. It's not just a bit of dust, either, it's clearly built up from over time. If the place can get cleaned up, I'd absolutely see myself becoming a regular and gladly give it a solid 4 stars... but as it is now? I'd be too busy worrying about food poisoning to enjoy anything if I ate there again. If the front of the store is that filthy, I shudder to think at what the kitchen must look like. I mean absolutely no disrespect, I just have to wonder what a health inspector would think if they saw the state of the place as it was last I visited. read more

I read the reviews on Yelp before eating at this restaurant and I must say, the staff had impressed me since I'm expecting a lousy customer service due to the reviews! The staff was really nice and friendly, patient too! Throughout the entire transaction, she was smiling and laughing with us. The teriyaki bowl is really good!!! I'm definitely going back to this restaurant for the bowl again! The Gyoza (I ordered it bcuz of the good reviews) wasn't what I expected, it's deep fried and I didn't really like it. Been here a number of times over the years, and food has always been good. Really love the short ribs. BUT we ordered take out today, and I was incredibly dissapointred to see that NOT A SINGLE EMPLOYEE WAS WEARING A MASK. They didn't even seem to have them anywhere as an option. So I had takeout with a group here the other day and got chicken teriyaki. It was good but very little chicken and veggies. Mostly rice. I thought I'd try again and get something different so I got the spicy peanut noodle with chicken and added veggies. GROSS!! The food was all grey. No color. The veggies were just soggy and nasty. The chicken had no flavor. The lime looked like a lemon it was so old and looked almost moldy. I took two bites and threw $13 in the trash. I seriously think I might have gotten sick if I would have eaten more. I was so disappointed. I won't be back. Lesson learned. read more

Been a loyal customer since 2007- just had my usual order of chicken Katsu tonight...which was good except it was just meat and rice. No veggies were added and I thought that was strange. Portion was smaller too. I asked for extra sauce- no extra sauce. I would say dine in is a much better experience. Every time I order take out or delivery they miss the mark. My boba (which is normally the best place in town) was runny and all the tapioca balls were globbed together and clogged my straw. I've noticed consistently over the last 2 years the top notch food seems to be a little less quality...Kind of bums me out because this is my favorite teriyaki place in town and it's close to my house. read more

I tried this place for the first time yesterday, though it's been open for quite some time now. The food is tasty and not too expensive, but very few vegetables came in our rice bowls, which was disappointing. You have to pay extra for veggies, so if you want a vegetable meal, remember to pay the extra money for more than three bites of veggies in your meal. Overall, I will go back to this place and just remember that I need to pay more for vegetables. If I want fast and healthy food Yokozuna gets my business every time. Teriyaki chicken bowl with brown rice, you really can't go wrong and by my estimate it is about 650 calories, not too shabby for a filling meal. Service is always fast and courteous and the food is simply delicious. I was sad when their downtown location closed, but the Vista location is as excellent as always. Our first time here, recommended by a waitress from another restaurant. Well first off, we had to clean our table. Mind you it wasn't too busy! I ordered pork teriyaki no rice.....vegetable was fresh from the garden! If I wanted raw veggies I would've ordered salad. Too crunchy in chunks!!!! Teriyaki was watered down big time, more like water, soy and sugar. Kids plate was a joke! Two thin trips of breaded chicken?!?!? Really? The teriyaki chicken and sweet onion chicken is so yummy, the beef ribs are so tasty and juicy. The rice with the chili paste and the meat is a perfect combo. They give a huge quantity of meat and the taste makes me come over again. The katsu curry is not good because of the fried chicken.
