I hate leaving negative reviews, even more so for local restaurants especially at this time. But my experience at CK was so unfortunate...I gotta share. For your sake. Located in the quiet shops off Entertainment, CK Hawaiian BBQ touts they have the best Hawaiian food in Boise. I think there is potential but they need an entire makeover, from the space to the recipes. For one, the restaurant was not clean. The tables were grimy and the floor was oddly sticky. It felt like the place hadn't been properly cleaned in a long time. I ordered the Kalua Park Plate (savory pork with (or without) cabbage) with a side of macaroni and gravy ($8.45 for small), my husband the Chicken Katso also with a side of macaroni and gravy (panko breaded chicken breast, $9.55). We decided to take our food home. The second I opened the boxes, I was unimpressed. I'll spare you my very descriptive and unappetizing statement (something about the remarkable resemblance to wet cat food), but to be blunt, I was appalled. It was soggy mess of a few pieces of pork with way to much cabbage. I took one small bite and couldn't stomach anymore. Even my husband exclaimed "what the actual f***." The rest of the food wasn't the worst. The chicken katsu was breaded good but I was like where tf is the katsu sauce?! It wasn't anything special at all. At least it was edible. The macaroni salad was okay. It didn't taste very fresh, probably an old batch. I'm no Hawaiian food expert and based off their menu I got the impression that they're not aimed at providing traditional Hawaiian fare, but more so "inspired" fare. However, regardless of the origin of the food the fact remained that what I received tonight was terrible. Two stars, because the employees were very nice. And were very accommodating when we changed from dine-in to take-out.

SUCH good, authentic food with great portions. I got a large Hawaiian plate. They gave me 4 large pieces of chicken and more than enough sides. Highly recommend.

Teri chicken and katsu chicken is the best combo over.

awesome food. Always good and fast service. Could use some music. Hawaiian music would be nice. Love it all though the menus is amazing.

I would have been better satisfied by tossing $30 into the wind than I was eating this meal. Put simply, I cannot think of a time in my entire life, that I have had worse food. Let's start with the positives: The menu was easy to understand and read. The gentleman who took our order was friendly, informative, and efficient in taking and serving our order. The white rice met expectations. I have to admit. I was excited about finding this place. I was looking forward to eating some Kalua Pork. When I first opened my take out container I was a bit confused. The pork had texture of saw dust mixed among cabbage?--I assume it was cabbage, it had neither the taste or texture of cabbage. The pork was also unlike anything I had ever seen, it literally had the consistency of wet saw dust, no long pulling apart pork fibers, the meat was shredded so finely it was as if it was blended (that is with a blender). I can't explain it. I took two bites. It lacked flavor, it had a weird consistency, it was just awful. The kimchi was probably made that morning. Which if you know kimchi is a bad thing. Kimchi develops its flavors over a period of time and the cabbage softens a little. This cabbage was hard with a bland flavor. This was the first time I had ever had flavorless kimchi; quite the achievement, although not one anyone ought to appreciate. It did come with a tiny bit of white rice so I was able to eat that. Happy to report, the rice was alright. My wife enjoyed her tiny portion of Korean shortribs. For whatever reason, they gave her a double-portion of the flavorless kimchi, she couldn't eat it. It was terrible. I was going to chalk all this up as a learning experience and simply never return; I was annoyed that this terrible lunch for two cost over $30 (food + drinks), but I was prepared to simply trash the food and move on. My wife on the other hand wanted them to know of the sub-par dishes. Their response, "That's the way it is, the Kalua Pork is very popular." Ah, I'm guessing their location next to a movie theatre gives them a good stream of one time customers like us. If you're ever forced to eat at this place, may I suggest you stick with the white rice...

I've been going to this establishment since I was a child, my family has catered many of our gatherings with CK. It's hands down the most authentic Hawaiian food in Boise. Loved amongst me and all my friends and family. Will continue to recommend to everyone.

Ordered delivery from CK hawaiian BBQ. My first impression was that the menu doesn't represent traditional hawaiian food but still had many great sounding options. Delivery time was a little long but nothing unusual. I tried 3 sides and 3 different meats. The short ribs were by favorite among the meats and the general's chicken was the least enjoyable as the sauce was very thick and generally tasted like store quality. Sweet potato fries were not crispy at all but were surprisingly not bad despite that. Fried rice was unimpressive and a bit bland. Overall it's a spot worth trying but the food alone is just okay.

Broke da mouth, so ono. The only Hawaiian food place in the valley worth eating at. They do it good here.

I'll give it another try because I love Hawaiian bbq and plate lunches, but I didn't love the loco moco here. Now, it's never a super appetizing meal, but the chunky gravy on this one put me off pretty bad. The rice and eggs were cooked well, and the gravy actually tasted fine, but the hamburger patties were bland. The restaurant is comfortable and clean, and the service was good. I'm not sure if this is normal, but it took about 20 mins before my food was ready. Great selection of Hawaiian Sun drinks!

My sister and I showed up first. We got sat at a round table and chilled until the rest of our party showed up. After everyone got there, we all checked out the menu. There wasn't a real organized system between the employees that served our table. It was a reservation for 5 but only 2 menus and 2 waters were initially dropped off. After everyone got there, 2 more waters were brought out but not the 5th glass that was missing. Then we got an over abundance of menus when we just needed a couple more. It was a rough start. We finally got to order appetizers and dinner. I got the Asparagus Delight with extra chicken. My sister ordered Pad See Ew. My cousin got the Khao Soi with rice noodles. The two other prom moms got General's chicken and a sushi roll. For starters we got the fried green beans and calamari. The wait on the appetizers seemed long. Nothing is more annoying than not being able to enjoy your starter cause your dinner was right behind it. 2 fried green beans were brought out. We had to call the server and ask about the calamari. We were confused if that was 1 appetizer of fried green beans split into 2 plates for easier sharing or if it was actually 2 orders. Well, it was 2 orders so the extra portion was taken back. The calamari did come out shortly but was fast considering we waited so long initially for the appetizers come out. I didn't try the appetizers but from what was being said the fried green beans were good and they have had better calamari. As fast as that calamari came out, I'm sure it was prepared quickly. Not taking the normal time to actually prepare something that could turn into rubber if it's not cooked properly. Dinner came out shortly. My dish looked really good. There was bright green pieces of asparagus. A few hearty chunks of cauliflower. I noticed quite a few shrimp and a decent amount of chicken. My dish was good. The veggies were fresh and crispy. The sauce was on the sweeter side but still tasted good. The shrimp was tender but did have a fishy scent to them. The chicken could have been velveted. It was white meat and we all know white meat can lean towards the drier side. I think velveting could have fixed that. I did ask for extra chicken and in all honesty I don't think I really got the extra I had ordered. Service was decent. The timing of the appetizers and food could be worked on. Some communication between employees would have been nice for more organization. I came here for lunch and wasn't impressed with portion sizes and I will have to say I wasn't impressed with the dinner portion either. It's cool that I got to come back and vibe with my family tonight. It was busy so it's great to see that people are out supporting their local Asian restaurant. I unfortunately have such a high bar set from my family and growing up in this industry. I really wish this place would have met my expectations the second time around.

We arrived at the restaurant and were greeted promptly and asked if we had a reservation, I told them yes and we had requested an outdoor table along the river walk. We were promptly taken out to the table where we all sat and discussed how nice the evening was. Our server created us all and got the evening going with our drink order. Everything was going well. When our server arrived with the drinks and got them out to us all and asked if we wanted to order appetizers. My brother and I both stated yes. He ordered the Calamari and I added 2 Spyder Rolls. The appetizers came out just a bit later and we passed them around the table for all to share. My sister in law was hesitant to try the Spyder Roll because of the fish roe on top but we manager to get her to taste it and she she pleasantly surprised how much she enjoyed the flavor of everything. While enjoying our appetizers our server took our order to get the next part of the meal ready. About 15 minutes later dinner arrived and everything came out looking good. Everyone had gotten exactly what we had ordered. We all enjoyed our meals have good and fun conversations along the way. As we were coming to the end of our meal our server asked about dessert. We had mentioned to her it was mom's birthday so she was getting her free chocolate cake and ice cream, always a nice thing for the birthday girl. So my brother and his wife order something as well. My partner and I decided we didn't need anything. So we all enjoyed the evening just relaxing and enjoying ourselves and a good meal. Days later, the city condemned the entire building, saying that a seemingly never-ending project by the building's owner to replace a basement floor had rendered the building unsafe. What had been expected to be a two-month closure has lingered for nearly two years as the building owner and the city have fought in court to get the building made safe again. As a result, Mai Thai, which had operated in the Union Block for 20 years has been largely homeless for nearly two years. They reopened at the kitchen of the defunct Crave delivery service in Meridian, a ghost kitchen concept, offering takeout and delivery far from the restaurant's Boise base. In early August, Mai Thai opened at a Boise ghost kitchen, only it's owner Billy Pothikamjorn and his staff running the place, not contacted workers with no ties to the actual restaurant. Mai Thai was located close to our home in Boise's West End and its new location is even closer. It's located in the West End Food Co. on Main Street. We ordered Hat Yai fried chicken, street food from Thailand topped with crispy shallots and served with yellow curry, roti and ginger rice. I had drunken noodles and Kristy and I shared an order of paratha a type of roti bread) with Japanese pumpkin green curry. Everything was excellent. Pothikamjorn took my order and prepared the food, so I knew it was going to have the same quality as when they were in their downtown location. Service is mostly restricted to takeout and free delivery if you live within a six-mile radius. There's a few tables outside, but it's on the sunny side of the street and during the hot summer likely isn't too inviting. I'm glad to see Billy and his crew back in Boise. They were among the restaurants that sustained us during Covid with their home delivery so we're happy they've persevered despite the troubles at their former location.
