Came here with my wife a few days ago and absolutely loved the food here. Started off with the langosh appetizer which is fried bread with feta and mozzarella(?) stuffed inside of it. Really good appetizer and pretty big especially for two people, you could easily split it between three or four people as an app. I ordered the veal schnitzel and my wife got the chicken Parmigiana. We both loved our dishes. The restaurant is small and cozy. The couple that own the place are very nice and accommodating. I never give 5 stars but this place deserves it. The food, combined with the owners treating us like family, made for a memorable first time experience. European taste is a small restaurant, seating for about 25 people with tables seating 2 to 4. Ambiance is comfortable and clean and attire is casual. Service is okay and can vary. The owners are the staff here and sometimes service can feel a bit unwelcoming compared to other quaint restaurants like this; however, I think this is simply a difference in personalities rather than desire to make a good restaurant experience. The food is great. I highly recommend the Hungarian Goulash- my favorite. Stuffed cabbage is also excellent. Very filling portions and fresh, cooked from scratch. The only thing I would not recommend is the shepherds pie. Alcohol is available with a limited wine list. Desserts are definitely worth your consideration- homemade and so good. Great for a quiet night out and a good spot for a date. Recommended- give it a try! Happy eating. read more

It had been ages since I had eaten here. It is just as good as I remember. I run a ladies monthly dining group and European Taste was our November destination. Our group of 12 was excited to try a place no one else (but me) had visited. What a wonderful evening! We couldn't have been happier with the experience. From start to finish, everything was fantastic--the food, the ambiance, and the service. We shared a variety of dishes, each one more delicious than the last. The veal schnitzel was perfectly crispy and tender, while the chicken cordon bleu was rich and indulgent, with just the right balance of flavors. The chicken paprikas and sarmale (cabbage rolls) transported us straight to Eastern Europe, bursting with authenticity and heartiness. We also tried the langosh, a fluffy fried bread that was a delightful treat, and the chicken marsala, which was beautifully executed with a flavorful sauce. I was excited to try this restaurant today. I walked in and was quickly seated. The restaurant was small and cozy. I decided on the chicken schnitzel based on the reviews from other patrons. A warmed roll and butter were brought out, and my meal came out in a reasonable amount of time. There were two schnitzels on the plate, accompanied by super creamy mashed potatoes and garlic zucchini. Everything was piping hot. The chicken was perfect, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The vegetables were super yummy as well. When I was done eating and waiting for my check, I was given a little dessert, which was delicious (not exactly sure what it was, but I'm not one to turn down dessert!). In my recent visit to European Taste, I had the tyropita, Transylvanian sausage (mici), and a taste of two desserts, and I loved every bite of it all (especially the desserts). Plus, I felt like I got a good portion for what I paid. There isn't a lot of seating, maybe eight-ish tables inside, but the woven placemats, art, and hospitality (the workers were incredibly friendly) makes this a cozy spot to enjoy a meal. I love this mom and pop place. Friendly playful couple run the place. For those not familiar with Romanian cuisine I would stick to the German schnitzel or Italian Parmesans. My mom had the smoked meat platter and found it too non-traditional with the cured meat abs fresh sausage. I tried it and loved it but I've lived in Eastern Europe. This restaurant is soo delicious! I had the chicken paprikas which was just as flavorful and amazing as the same dish from my favorite restaurant in Budapest, Hungary! They really know what they are doing and I highly recommend you give this dish a try if you've never had it before. Also my husband got the chicken schnitzel which was also cooked perfectly. My husband, daughter, and I stopped in for a late lunch and we absolutely loved it. We can't remember the last time we had a meal out that tasted so fresh and made with love. Our daughter, who tends to be picky LOVED the spaghetti and meatballs, they even gave her a couple extra treats just cause. I had the chicken schnitzel and it was impeccable. The chicken was sooo moist and the breading was so flavorful. The portions were very generous as well! My husband had the lamb shawarma in a pita and he said it was the best tzatziki he's ever had. All of the food came out hot which almost never happens at any other restaurant. We ended the meal with desserts which were incredible as well. We will definitely be back!!! I placed an order over the phone for pick up. We ordered: tyropita, lamb with baked spaghetti, lamb shawarma with fries, and the chicken snitzel. Everything tasted good and all of the portions were huge. We definitely had plenty of leftovers. Despite all this, I probably will not be back during COVID times as the owners (one was cooking and the other was handling everything else) was not wearing face masks or took any COVID any precautions. Where do I start? We got langosh and puff pastry with meat to start it was amazing...Then the rudest band of Romanians came in.. they were arguing and we had not placed our dinner order yet .... (Total miscommunication on the owner and us) so we ordered but had to wait about 30 min because the Romanians that came in kept ordering more and more .. so our food came out after ALL of their multiple orders.... If there's one unique aspect of western Henrico on its southwestern side, it's the abundance of authentic ethnic restaurants. We tried another one tonight: European Taste. Very small seating area with wonderful ambiance and excellent, personal service from the owner. The food was delicious. We started with a beautiful Caesar salad and then had the stuffed cabbage (Sarmale) and the Mici (Transylvanian sausage). Paired with a nice Cabernet for me and a Czech pilsner for him. Servings were more than ample (we took some home) and the flavors were on point. We've clearly waited too long to try this sweet place. The taste was very reminiscent of my Hungarian side of the family. It was fun in a weird way. The husband is quite the character and we'll be back for more of his Transylvanian Sausage and her delicious Hungarian Goulash. Definitely not a chain restaurant and if you want to go somewhere with 0 pretension, this is the place. I like it, it was real the food was real and it made us smile. A co worker recommended this restaurant for good European food particular the MICI (Transylvanian Sausage) and I saw good reviews on yelp. The restaurant was tucked in a primarily vacant strip mall. Two or three booths and several four top tables fill the small space. The interior is very snug and the decor far from fancy. We started off with the Langos which was fried dough filled with feta and dill. It was huge the app was hanging off the plate, we definitely had enough for leftovers. The langosh was greasy and the dough was had a crunch to it but the feta and dill stuffing was the perfect balance. Our meal came shortly after the app came out . Our group of 3 ordered the goulash, the mici (Transylvanian sausage, and the chicken shawarma . The MICI was the star of the 3 different orders. The sausage was made in house & you have to get it with the mash potatoes with the dish. The shawarma was HUGE and even stuffed with fries along with the typical toppings of a a chicken shawarma. The goulash was hot and filled with tender beef mixed with carrots and onions.The husband said he made the mici himself & was proud of his creation. The restaurant is family owned run by husband (server) and wife (cook ) . I would definitely come back to try their pastries . Apparently they own a 2nd location that is their bakery downtown (near VCU) . I would come back just for the mici! How long has it been since you ate at a restaurant where everything was cooked from scratch, the service was great, the staff was friendly and welcoming and you left with a feeling of "Wow, that was genuinely great!" For me it was just about an hour ago as I left European Taste Restaurant. It was the first time eating there and will go back, without a doubt. Started the meal with Langosh (fried bread filled with feta) that was served hot and fresh. Moved onto entrees of chicken schnitzel and chicken cordon bleu. Each was freshly made (I heard the chef pounding the schnitzel in the kitchen) and the taste was great. The portions are substantial and a great value for the price. The service was fast and friendly and all the folks working were welcoming and pleasant. Even had a little jazz playing in the background! We do not normally get dessert but the chef came out and showed us a puff pastry she had just made so we both sat aside half our chicken and opted for dessert. I tell you what, it was fantastic! In fact all the desserts are homemade and looked pretty darn tasty. So, I think you can't go wrong. There are Italian, Greek, Hungarian, German, Romanian and other types of dishes on the menu. The freshly baked rolls they give you as you wait for your meal are great! Kind of dense but not too sense, warm and homemade so what's not to love? For an appetizer, we enjoyed puff pastries with a very flavorful sausage. The puff pastry was light, flaky and crispy and just mm mnn good! I ordered chicken schnitzel, it's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was served with mix vegetables and a delicious spoonful of creamy mashed potatoes. My boyfriend has lamb shawarma "french in" which means french fries inside!. It's basically a lamb gyro, it was delicious also, comes filled with lamb, tzatziki, and lettuce and tomato.
